"Very flexible, attracted to wizards possessing the divination or the legilimency gift."
PERSONALITY

Elodie is very socially aware, and can read people with remarkable accuracy, but is at the same time quiet and withdrawn. She has strong, firm beliefs and morals, but will rarely speak unless she is addressed. Elodie is quite a creative girl, and enjoys reading old, old books. She's incredibly good at singing and dancing, and loves listening to music or watching movies and musicals. She makes decisions quickly and surely, and can make friends rather quickly, based upon the fact that she's very sensitive. Elodie isn't naturally intelligent, but she does generally produce high marks. These can be traced back to Elodie's genuine enjoyment of learning, her inquisitive and curious nature, and the fact that she tries very very hard in school.

With her mind constantly wandering, Elodie's eyes never focus on one thing, even when she's talking, they'll drift, never settling. Her fingers are similar, constantly rubbing, clicking, tapping, clutching, as if they couldn't stand to stop still. She doesn't mean to, but Elodie will often find herself chewing on the end of her pencil or quill. When she's nervous or stressed, these habits will increase in speed. This can make her appear uninterested and rude when she is in a conversation.
APPEARANCE

Slightly shorter than average, Elodie finds it easy to shrink into the crowd, but has a wiry, athletic body shape. Her eyes are easily the most expressive part of her face, and are often wide, filled with an emotion. She has dark, golden-brown skin, and her loose, dark brown ringlets can be let out, tied up, or braided, depending on what she is doing. She has soft, young features, with pale, rounded lips, and dark lashes atop her eyes. Her clothes are often nice - she takes care in her clothes and looks - and is normally seen with golden earrings, necklaces and some bracelets, too. Current faceclaim is Anne-Kélhiel; ideas for future faceclaims include Taylor Russell.
PRE-HOGWARTS HISTORY

Elodie Camille Nyangui (elle-oh-dee kam-ill nigh-ahn-gway) was born in Manchester, U.K. on the 12th of May 2008. Her mother, named Ancelle Nyangui, rented the 2nd floor of a tall building in south-west Oldham; a beige-coloured house that had unfortunately aged poorly. As well as Elodie, Ancelle also had an elder daughter, Ruby Madeleine, from a previous partner. Elodie’s father, José Antonio Gutiérrez, had left Ancelle the moment he had heard of his daughter’s existence. Ancelle developed an untoward habit of acquiring unfaithful partners, and, 3 years later, would be left with another two children, when their father abandoned them. Ancelle named her children Oliver Pierre and Maisie Anaïs, and appeared to have moved on from men. However, another two years later, Ancelle would fall pregnant for a fifth and final time. Her son was named Elliot Louis, and his father would remain a blurry face forevermore. To save herself and her children some embarrassment and confusion, Ancelle gave them all her last name, Nyangui, instead of their fathers’. Unknown to Ancelle, José Antonio Gutiérrez was a wizard. This secret would remain kept for another 10 years.

An immigrant from Gabon, Ancelle had moved to England when she was 22 years old. With poor English skills, she found it difficult to find a decent-paying job, and instead compensated by working extremely hard at a storage company. This meant that she was often absent, leaving in the early morning, arriving home late at night, and missing during weekends and school holidays. As the eldest child, Ruby naturally took the role of playing mother, and played her part magnificently well. She made breakfast, heated up dinner, did the washing up and tucked the littlies to bed. Elodie grew to love her as a mother, but also respected and admired the work Ruby had done for her siblings.

Elodie and her siblings all attended childcare and holiday programs from a young age, as their mother simply did not have the time to care for them. But during the weekends, when Ruby was busy looking after the younger children, Elodie was left to her own devices, and turned to the streets as a source of entertainment. Most of the children living in Oldham, Manchester were in the same position as Elodie, with struggling parents and few dollars to spare. Because life at home was often an uncomfortable and saddening topic, it was regularly avoided at all costs by the children, almost automatically. They rarely discussed anything, preferring to scout the neighbouring streets for a ball, arrange two haphazard goals, and play an animated, cheery game of football. Because of this environment, Elodie developed a very private, withdrawn personality, where she rarely offered inside information to people outside of her tight sibling circle. Elodie was sent to the local state school when the time came. While quiet, and rarely offering information, Elodie found that she had a natural thirst for information, and to learn things. While not intelligent by birth, Elodie found that she did well at school, not only because of her thirst to learn, but also because she tried hard and put effort into her schooling. Elodie came to love school, and her personality became more relaxed, and less reserved, as she came to know fellow students, and develop close bonds with them. Elodie’s mother’s native languages were French and the Fang language, so she grew up speaking both. As a young child, her English was not competent, but when she went to school, Elodie was forced to improve her English skills, and did so accordingly.

While not that of a wealthy child, Elodie’s childhood was idyllic. She adored her siblings, enjoyed hanging out with her friends, and loved attending school. Alas, this was all to change. When Elodie was 8 years old, her mother gave her up. Ancelle had not wanted to give away her children, but – even with government support money – she was finding it difficult to single-handedly support five children. So, with a heavy heart, Ancelle handed Elodie to her father; and Oliver and Maisie to theirs. She kept Ruby and Elliot, the former because she was the eldest and could partly care for herself, and the latter because he had no father to go to. Elodie’s father, you might remember, was the wizard: José Antonio Gutiérrez, a second-generation Spaniard who had been born and raised in Manchester. He at first refused to take his daughter, but eventually relented. In mid-2017, Elodie was dropped off at his house, a small, dilapidated building in northern Oldham. It was smaller than Elodie’s old home, but in another sense larger, as he owned the whole place, not just one floor. He had given the storage room to Elodie and had given her a tour around his dwelling at her arrival. After that, Elodie rarely saw her father at all. He left at dawn and arrived in the late hours of the night. While this was not new to Elodie, with her mother working similar hours, the young girl did not have her siblings. José Antonio lived alone, and now Elodie did as well. Because of this, Elodie became quieter. She stopped offering information and would only talk when spoken to. She lost friends and would have become even lonelier, if it were not for books. Books were what saved Elodie. Her father’s house was filled with old books, classics, and Elodie devoured them. She fell in love with Greek tragedies, Icelandic sagas, and Italian poems, which introduced her to history, philosophy, astrology and sociology, topics which she further studied. These books allowed her to become wiser (a little too wise, in some people’s minds) and let Elodie forget the sadness and despair of her life. She remained quiet and private but was no longer cold and distant.

When Elodie was 10 years old, she set a table arm on fire when having dinner. She quickly put it out and was so worried about her father's reaction that she did not stop to question the strangeness of the event. When her father came home, Elodie at first denied the accident. But her father persisted, until Elodie admitted that she was at fault. Her father had grunted. He had then sat down with his daughter and explained what she was: a witch. Shocked with the fact that her father was even talking to her, Elodie had never fully recognised the truth in that fact until she received her letter, given to her by an ice-white owl.

THE NYANGUI FAMILY

Roni Nyangui was born in the Woleu-Ntem Province of Gabon in a rural village that hugged the Okano River. The village was small and was made up of a few families, all of the Fang people. He grew up speaking the Fang language but was introduced to French when he attended school. Despite Roni’s humble beginnings, the boy was ambitious and determined to make a better life for himself. His family did not approve of Roni’s dreams, but that did not stop the young man from leaving the Okano River when he was only 17 years old, and head to Port Gentil, the industrial capital of Gabon.

There, Roni survived by working odd jobs. Port-Gentil was a huge step from Roni’s rural village, but the young man would not let anything stop him. He focused on furthering his French skills, the educated language of Gabon (as Latin was the educated language of medieval times), and building connections around the city. Nearly two years later, Roni found a place at the ‘Manganèse Illimité’ mining company (literally translating to Manganese Unlimited). At the time of Roni’s hire, raw wood and forest products had been Gabon’s principal natural resource for many years. However, this trend was falling, and the mining of manganese, which was found in great quality and quantity in south-eastern Gabon, was becoming first in line. Roni, with his ambitious and think-big nature, pushed the company to expand. Roni’s push and the increase in manganese mining were both at the same place in time. This led to an increase in the company’s, and therefore Roni’s, wealth. He became a rich man and moved to the capital city of Libreville. Libreville, with its broad boulevards, modern hotels and office buildings, a new airport, discotheques, and elegant shops and restaurants had transformed the city into one of the most sophisticated capitals in the continent of Africa by the 1970s, a perfect place for a man of wealth like Roni.

The mining of manganese stopped becoming massively profitable a couple of years later, with oil becoming the newest big thing, but by that time, Roni had enough money to live like a king for ten lifetimes. Nowadays, he had other ideas in mind, a wife. He soon laid eyes upon Cécile Mba, a pretty, polite young woman. Cécile was not from a rich family – her father, once a wealthy man, had been careless with his money, and quickly became bankrupt. The girl had spent her childhood moving from one place to another as her father fruitlessly tried to borrow money from old friends. Nevertheless, Cécile was beautiful, and Roni loved her as much as she loved him. They got married a couple of months after meeting and moved into a flashy, modern house.

With Cécile, Roni had four children: Anaïs, Louis, Pierre and Ancelle, who were taught to speak both French (their mother's language) and Fang (their father's language), and raised as devout Roman Catholics, their mother's religion. Ancelle (un-cell), the youngest, took after her father. She was ambitious and eager, and Gabon was just too small for her like his village was too small for Roni. At the age of 19, in 2004, Ancelle, funded by her wealthy parents, sailed to the United Kingdom, a place of castles, queens and tea. Sadly, Ancelle can't claim the success that her father earnt. Speaking no English she found jobs few and far between, and she gained an unfortunate habit of falling for unfaithful men, including José Antonio Gutiérrez, who flirted and flattered with Ancelle for six months. When the news of their daughter was revealed to him, he left soon after.

THE GUTIÉRREZ FAMILY

José Antonio Gutiérrez was born to Álvaro Gutiérrez Morales* and Isabel Lorca Rodríguez*, who both migrated to Manchester in 1981 from Spain. José Antonio can trace his lineage from his mother's side to Tello Alfonso†, one of the illegitimate children of Alfonso XI of Castile†, making him a relative of the current royal family; although a very distant, far-flung relative at best. Despite this distance, Isabel grew up very well-to-do in the city of Barcelona, part of a pureblood family. She was taught the secrets of magic, along with her two younger brothers, by only the best of teachers, and resided in a historical manor house with views of her family's vineyards, the source of their enormous wealth. Although Isabel was the eldest of her father's children, the Lorca's stubbornly stuck to the traditional custom of passing down assets to the firstborn son, and Isabel was expected to find a well-to-do bachelor of her own. Álvaro Gutiérrez Morales had a more modest upbringing; notwithstanding it was still an upbringing of comfort and wealth. His family could trace their family to no one but mere peasants but had ascended themselves up the steps of wealth through hard work, good connections and their magical blood. Álvaro grew up at a luxurious, pleasant townhouse in Madrid with his elder brother, attended the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and was told that he could be anything he put his mind to. By the age of 17, Álvaro had set his mind on becoming an art teacher for muggles but first wanted to take a cultural tour of Spain. His family's wealth was happy to sponsor the trip, and at the age of 18, Álvaro found himself in Barcelona.

That was where Álvaro and Isabel met, in Barcelona. They were just friends at first, but Álvaro soon fell for Isabel and her charming, upper-class airs. And Isabel fell for Álvaro and his passionate, optimistic view on life. Álvaro's family was wealthy, but their money was new, not old, like the Lorca's money was, so Isabel's parent's were reluctant for the two to marry when the subject arose. But, old money, pureblood families were becoming scarce, so the Lorca's had to be happy with Álvaro. In 1978, the couple married. With their combined wealth, they were able to purchase a large townhouse back in Madrid, which allowed Álvaro to fulfil his dream of becoming an art teacher, by studying at Autonomous University of Madrid (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid).

Álvaro and Isabel moved to the United Kingdom early on in their marriage. It was something they did because it sounded interesting, and something new to do, and they certainly had the money to do so. They moved to the wealthier parts of Machester, in a nice house, and there had two children: José Antonio and Sonia. Their eldest son, José Antonio, was like his mother, with upper-class airs and a high level of self-importance ingrained in himself. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1992 to 1999 as a Slytherin student. After he graduated, José Antonio became interested in studying the Dart Arts, but he has never revealed his actual occupation. He remembers Ancelle and despises his bastard daughter with her, Elodie Camille Nyangui. He despises her because she reminds him of himself, curious and eager to gain knowledge.

* Spanish names are written as first name, father's surname, mother's surname. So, if José Antonio was born in Spain, his name would be José Antonio Gutiérrez Lorca. Upon reaching the United Kingdom, José Antonio's parent's dropped their mother's surname, as it is not how names are written there. Isabel Lorca also changed her surname to Gutiérrez, even though in Spain, upon marrying, you don't change your surname.
† These figures are true, historical figures. But please note that the Gutiérrez family and their lineage is a story created by me!

NADYA ANDRULEVIČUS
Full Name: Nadežda Margarita 'Nadya' Andrulevičus
School: Durmstrang Institute
Age: 12 years old
Year: Second Year
Race: Human
Blood Status: Pureblood
Quidditch Player: No
APPEARANCE

Nadya's western European has given her pale, warm-toned skin, a wide mouth and thin, pale hair. Her lips are pale and peach-coloured, and her eyes are luminous and light blue, lying below blonde, sharply-angled eyebrows. Nadya has a very oval face, which narrows like a triangle at the bottom near her chin, with a small forehead and long neck. Her body is gangling and thin, but wiry, agile and strong in sport games. Her eyes are too large than what's normal, and her nose is thin, and slightly turned-up. Nadya is small for her age, and slim too, which allows her to disappear in a crowd. A pale birthmark, three dots organised into the shape of a triangle, sits at the base of her left thumb, and Nadya's clothes show her high level in society, are are often expensive, but sensible.
PERSONALITY

Quiet and unassuming, Nadya tends to blend in with the crowd effortlessly. She avoids drawing attention by rarely talking, but attentively listens when asked. A follower to her core, Nadya would never dream of speaking out of place, and instead does what she is told, no matter the order, and no matter who it is. Nadya would be strong for others, but will quickly forfeit her own opinions and theories to those of someone else. Quite an artistic child, Nadya takes enjoyment in listening and dancing to music, and has long wished to learn an instrument, though she keeps these longings private to others. Nadya is patient, observant and imaginative, loyal and hardworking, but also humble and shy, reserved, sensitive. She represses her feeling more often than what is healthy, and is often too altruistic, never standing by her own beliefs.
HISTORY

Nadežda Margarita 'Nadya' Andrulevičus (pronounced: nah-dehsz-dah mahr-gahr-eetah 'nad-yah' and-ru-le-vitz-us) was born the fifth child of Andrejs Miervaldis Andrulevičus [x] and Karina Ludmila Andrulevičus (née Strazdinš) [x]. She had four elder sisters, Natālija Agnese Andrulevičus [x], Tatjana Rozālija Andrulevičus [x], Laura Ingrīda Andrulevičus [x], and Kristiāna Monika Andrulevičus [x], and a younger brother, Markuss Visvaldis Andrulevičus [x].

The Andrulevičus family is a prestigious and illustrious family in Latvia, tracing it's lineage back to the Kingdom of Livonia, when they were powerful lords and ladies. During the Russian integration of Latvia, the Andrulevičus family managed to keep it's high status by forming close bonds with Russians of important standing, and is how the family is still alive today.

Nadya grew up on the Andrulevičus estate. Her father, Andrejs, held an old fashioned view of education, and aimed to train his children up as intellectually, magically and physically superior to those around them. His children weren't allowed to socialize with anyone who couldn't prove their pure lineage, and corporal punishment were used from a young age. Karina, their mother, was a weak, petty woman, who despised her motherly role and left her children in the charge of nannies the moment they left her breast. This upbringing did work, at least in Andrejs' eyes, but also left the Andrulevičus children feeble and timid, afraid to stand up for themselves and scared to make their own decisions. Their life was that of the privileged, but was often harsh and cruel. With tutors that changed regularly (the result of Andrejs impossibly high standards of teaching) and parents that were often away socializing with other high status members all over western Europe, Nadya was rarely able to form close friendships. Even her siblings, who each competed fiercely to win their father's approval, weren't close.

And so, when Nadya came to Drumstrang, it was a great relief to her. While the attitude was cold and sometimes harsh, it was much softer than what lay behind her. She was finally able to have friends and professors who supported her, and treated her fairly. Nadya enjoys school immensely, and is extremely proud to belong to such a fine institute.
