Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Oliver got this talent from his great grandfather, who was a dark wizard. Never heard of him? Yeah. He was that good at it. Basically, he controlled a very secret and very selective group of people that would do a lot of things for their masters, their masters being whoever happened to pay the most, including but not limited to thievery, assasination, sabotage and espionage. They were very good at what they did, mainly because of the leader’s ability. That’s right: a parselmouth. He would control snakes and have them report back to him, getting huge amounts of information at the tips of his fingers.
As a parselmouth, Oliver could battle with his past and his heritage, fight, and hopefully win, against the seeds of dark magic planted by his mother’s side of the family, an unruly bunch of people, and become a powerful wizard in his own right, being what he himself made and what his mother wanted him to be. Before she died.
Oliver discovered he could talk to snakes after a particularly strange dream in which he was sitting at a table, with a bunch of peculiar beings. One, a woman who looked like an angel, she glowed like the sun, and always had a soft smile on her face, calmness and kindness radiating with her every word.
And then there was the Man. someone who looked like the devil, wearing a trench coat and top hat, and seemed polite enough, but you could feel the waves of anger coming off of him with each word he spoke, something about applications.
But the weird thing is that the Man… did something to him. Oliver, who was sat on his left, and the Woman, who sat on his right, the Man, sitting at the head of the table, looked at him strangely, and he felt something happen. Like an awakening of sorts, a part of him he had never known was there suddenly stirred.
Well, anyway, the next morning, when he was on the grounds, talking to a snake as he rescued it from his father, who would’ve killed it or shot it or something manly like that, barbecued it or something.
Anyway the snake, when delivered out of the father’s grounds, whispered a message of thanks to Oliver, who was understandably confused, of course, not being aware that snakes could talk or that magic even existed - both being revealed by his father a few months afterwards, the truth about his mother and all that.
What? You think I’m gonna just straight-up tell you what happened? You’re going to have to wait- just like everyone else.
Well, anyway, after his Mother died, he found out that dark wizards ran deeply in his family, like roots from a redwood tree, extending for miles in every direction. And, because of this, the Blackthorne name pulled some serious weight as a family of very powerful dark wizards, powerful in connections and also very powerful magically. Unfortunately, in recent times, their power has fallen off, as a result of a feud between members about blood relations.
...oops. I may have said too much.

Eliza's mother had a strange family. One time, you'd visit her sister and her hair would be long and straight, and the next, short, curly, and a whole other color. Eliza never payed attention, she's only met her Aunt 3 times, and that was when she was little. She once even thought she saw her own Mother's appearance change. Her father acts like nothing's wrong, but whenever Eliza brings it up, her parents tell her she must've had too much Caffeinated Tea, or the "Nargles" had gotten to her. Then everything would go silent, and no one would talk for minutes.

One time, a wild raccoon had gotten into the house. It was 7:30, and pitch-black out. Eliza, her mother and Aaron, her little brother, were sitting in the living room. Eliza was only 6, and her mother was very protective of her and her brother. The two children were playing with blocks on the rug. Eliza accompanied her brothers in activities such as this. That night, the three heard a creaking noise back by their porch. They had left the door unlocked, and they heard it open. The raccoon, about half the size of Eliza, had bust through the door. Her mother grabbed Eliza and Aaron, keeping them protected behind her. Eliza swore she saw her mothers facial layout change.

The raccoon was sent to a forest by animal control, and everything was back to normal. Though that didn't matter, when she was young, she was so shy. Despite having no friends, she'd have to make up her own. She would stand in the mirror, pretending she was having a conversation with someone. Without noticing, her hair was brown, her eyes were blue, and her nose was a little wider. By the time her "Conversation" had ended, all was back to normal. She hadn't seen anything, and her parents weren't around to see.

9 year old Eliza never payed attention to it, but one day, she realized, that her left eye was browner. Much browner. She told her mother, and she told her that around her age, things like changing eye color are normal. She explained that she had a much bluer eye color, and it had turned blueish grey. Eliza didn't believe this excuse, and within the next week, forgot about it. She noticed that it was gone, and had faded to her normal green-hazel.

Though her parents never told her, she knew something different was happening, something unhuman. Not caring or paying enough attention to it, ended up in her not looking it up. Though, hoping that her teachers may teach it, doubting she would learn how, though. Whenever a small burst out of a change happens, she just covers it up, with a hat, scarf, or a sweater.

She likes to hide herself in crowds, but with her popping orange hair and neon green eyes, it's harder. Having the control of the ability to change, she would find ways to disguise herself, and be seen less.

Perhaps the mundane pleasures of conducting the same predictable routine every single day without a break or change of perspective was what initially gave rise to this abnormal gift.

Jackson was unsurprisingly and painfully boring.

Many a wizard-born seemed to believe that muggle-borns were disadvantaged in the field of magic. Jackson didn’t disagree. In fact, he agreed fully but wondered if the wizard-borns could comprehend the logic behind it. It wasn’t because of a lack of gift or a lack of birthright, as many muggle-born wizards had achieved great success in the wizarding world when they had matured fully. Rather, it was the sudden change of environment and the monumental reality shift taking place at the vulnerable age of eleven that left many dumbfounded and uncertain about the unfamiliar waters ahead.

Expectedly, it was easier to attend a school of wizards and witches if one had been acquainted with the fact all their lives. But for a muggle-born, the transition was like throwing a child who had never once seen water bodies in his life into the middle of the ocean and expecting him to swim to safety. Many a time, the child would drown. And that’s what happened to Jackson.

When he felt alone or frightened, he retreated into the quiet enclaves of his mind where the familiar thoughts of academic pursuit intoxicated his troubled mind from greater worries. It was ironic how amid the flurry of changes and new revelations, the things that kept him firmly anchored in his senses were the aspects of his past that he had always sought to escape. He realised now that his father’s philosophy of stellar performance was not simply a part of his childhood. It had become a part of him too.

And so, for the muggle-born boy crouched up in the corner of his bed, eyes wide open as he stared contemplating the unexplainable new world, he found a gift that he neither welcomed nor resented. He was painfully boring, a trait of his father’s no doubt, etched upon him in wax like an artist’s signature.

Was that his strength or his weakness that he could see the world with such objectivity in a world so subjective? Logic and reason had always been his bread and butter, but it seemed now that both crumbled around him into dusty paste as a new standard for what was possible loomed upon the horizon.

He stared off into the tangerine dusk. It’s rich sunset crush melted away into the darkness beyond. For a moment, Jackson saw the vaulting of the universe, and the tales of his smile faded to ash.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Perfectionist
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Ever since basically birth, Piper had wanted things to be just right. Whether it was just the little things, such as arranging her toys just so, or the bigger things, like how her research was, everything had to be...well...perfect. It was quite possible Piper had minor OCD, but either way, her precision in everything she did was one to be uncontested.

Her upbringing played a major role in how she viewed things and how exact each detail should be. Rather, the small details did matter, but the end result had to look right. Piper's grandmother, Camille Arnette, was a major part of Piper's instilled perfectionism. She held (and holds) high expectations for anyone related to her and can be highly critical, and therefore it's difficult for most to meet these expectations. Piper's mother is fairly relaxed about rules, and is the only reason Piper isn't an obsessive-compulsive fanatic. She values learning and fascination above grades or the end result. Robert Arnette (Piper's grandfather) thinks his wife is a bit too harsh, but wisely stays far away from any sort of confrontation with her.

Since coming to Hogwarts, Piper has piled many expectations on herself. She wants to please her mother - not because she expects high performance, but because she wants her mother to be impressed. Piper wants to make her grandmother proud, or run a risk of her grandmother personally discovering the use of a Howler and sending one. At home, Piper never received anything less than a 90%.

Despite Piper's best efforts, she just can't live up to the bar she set for herself. Potions has gone all awry, and so has Herbology. She is performing well in Charms, Transfiguration, and general spellcasting classes, but the others are much harder for various reasons. Piper meticulously follows the directions on Potions, but when she comes to a crossroads with directions, she adamantly refuses help and guesses (usually wrongly). In Herbology, it's so difficult to remember to water a plant and get all other homework done. Besides, Piper would much rather study the in-depth cells of her plant than deal with mundane tasks such as repotting and watering. A fatal trait of Piper's is jealousy. If students are doing better than her, she wants to harm the other students and overall feels like a failure. It does not help that Piper is generally an antisocial soul in the first place (due to the imperfectness of people), so not many are inclined to be sympathetic.

Because spells are more of one-and-done deals, Piper is exceptionally precise. She will apply all the proper wand movements and visualization, and nobody will pronounce an incantation more crisply than her. She rarely has to practice more than three times to get the general feel/pattern of a spell, and so does much better on those. You can rest assured that if the slightest thing is off when performing a spell, Piper will start over relentlessly until it reaches the desired effect.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Aspen is a thinker, Aspen is slow and methodical, Aspen makes sure anything she does is accurate.

When Aspen began to work at her parent's restaurant at the age of eight, she started out by counting coins and measuring ingredients. Both of these were tasks where precision and accuracy are of the utmost importance, and the Summer adults trusted their young daughter to be accurate with these tasks.

After slipping up on her second day, where she slipped up on the measurement of salt which created a chain reaction throughout the kitchen, Aspen swore to herself that she would do everything she can to do her best, to not cause un-needed chaos and this resolve will not leave her now that she is a witch. Now, she has more control, more she can do to keep the globe spinning.

When working on school assignments and homework, Aspen starts early but will still turn it in at the last minute. Quadruple checking each and every answer, making sure each dot of the I are lined up, re-writing a whole essay when one word was misspelled, it may come off as perfectionism, but to Aspen, it was just about being accurate.

While she is always one to hold herself accountable if she is wrong, Aspen prefers to check the library, textbooks, or her notes before making any definite statements, something that can make group projects hard.

She has already joined the Scavenger Hunt Club, another example of Aspen's drive to do, to do well. When searching for clues, Aspen will always make sure she is right before bringing it to the group; lest she disappoints her team with her lack of double checking.

When Aspen Summers first came to Hogwarts and first learned about the game of Quidditch, a game of seven players, each with their own job, she felt drawn to the position of Chaser. A mix of teamwork and a need to be accurate in each and every movement without being too slow, without overthinking- two things Aspen Summers is guilty of more than she would like to admit. With her plan to sign up for the Hufflepuff Quidditch team after the new year, Aspen has been training herself on school brooms and with spare Quaffles to be more accurate on the field.

Aspen is strong, Aspen is smart, Aspen is kind, Aspen is quiet. But most of all, Aspen is accurate.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Perfectionist

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): Even prior to beginning his studies at Hogwarts, Michael was determined to not only learn as much as he could, but to master what he learned. What was the use of knowing something if you weren't ever able to apply that knowledge? And learn he did. Sitting by the sunny window repeating line after line in whatever book he held at the time, mouthing incantations he didn't yet understand until I was sure he'd gotten the pronunciation down. Or, as accurate as possible without hearing the spell spoken aloud. Though his mother discouraged magic— even "accidental"— extending into the yard, she wasn't against her eldest pouring his mind into reading, though she knew the vast majority of his real learning would begin among the studies and practice at Hogwarts.

While he logically understood his mother's caution (and the rules against underage wizardry), that knowledge didn't stop him from eagerly wanting to be able to do the amazing things he saw his mother do or read about in his books. When he finally hit the age he could go to Hogwarts and truly learn, he was practically vibrating with excitement. He could finally see the halls from his mother's retellings, explore the twisting corridors and spiraling stairs, and, most importantly, he could start his journey to learn as much about magic as an eleven-year-old could comprehend.

Swish-and-flick. So maybe he was a bit of a nerd. Swish-and-flick. Why did it matter? Swish-and-flick. The last thing he wanted was to end up in a rough spot because he stressed the wrong syllable or turned his wand right instead of left. And even if the initial spells weren't very dangerous, the later ones very well could be. It was important to put his all into all of them, Michael decided. Good to get into the habit now. Swish-and-flick. That would do. There was so much work at Hogwarts. So much to do. So much to learn. So much to know.

Ravenclaw fit well, he thought. Surrounded by others just as eager to know—to understand— each in their own ways. Even if his current dreams of just learning didn't seem particularly exciting, he could trust that his housemates would at least understand the passion for knowledge. And then, beyond that, he saw the path to mastery.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Already, his life had been changed drastically upon his adoption into the much wealthier pureblood family, the Bezuidenhout. His original parents were no longer physically capable to take care of him much less tend their farm. It took months for Heinrich to acquaint to the new lifestyle and he surely did not expect things to go south in such a short period of time. What supposed to be a nice camping trip had turned into a disaster, one that would alter his life greatly. It was as if he was fated to become a beast.

It was a family tradition for the Bezuidenhouts, to visit their historical sites annually, a few that were relatively recent especially the few accommodations which Thellea and Decatur Bezuidenhout sought refuge at during the wizarding war. Many of the places were in surprisingly good condition. Their last destination was at a log cabin deep in the density of trees, lit by the glow of the full moon. Throughout the trip, the family did not rely on house-elves as they usually did so Heinrich was tasked to collect firewood as Mr and Mrs Bezuidenhout prepared the food.

Torch in hand, he wandered along the path, picking up scraps and branches of wood which he then heaved in his arm. Then he heard a rustle in a distance which caused him to whip around. But the sound and movement of the brush in the distance only seem to intensify. Instinctually, Heinrich took off running back in the direction of the campsite. He could hear the scrapping, likely a creature closing the distance between them by the second. Heinrich never saw what hit him, only the excruciating pain exploding over his shoulder. He let out an ear-piercing cry the reverberated throughout the forest.

His long eyelashes fluttered as he opened his eyes. The smell was familiar, he was back home, in his bedroom. The furnished antique patterns across the ceiling he stared up at confirmed his suspicion. It all seemed like a nightmare. The creature in the shadows. The attack. It all seemed -- no -- felt too real. He could not remember much, just the crimson splatters, the screams, his screams, so loud that he could not hear his own thoughts that were running down like a rapid about his head. Nightmare. It was just a really bad nightmare. He'd repeated in his head. The memory was fuzzy, most he would never be able to recollect, he was not sure if he wanted too.

<<Heinrich>>the voice echoed through his headspace as if called out in a distance.

"Heinrich," the silky feminine voice finally reeled him out of his dazed state. He turned to find the face he was all too familiar with, Aurelia. Her alluring grey-blue hues was brimming with emotion.

"Aurelia? I had a nightmare, h-" His words were cut short when the older sibling pulled him into a tight embrace.

Then holding him at an arm's length away she finally spoke, the shine of the tears streaking down her face. "No, no. Its not a nightmare. I wished it was, Heinrich. I'm so sorry, I am terribly sorry..." the words tumbled out repeatedly in soft sobs.

"The creature? What was it? W-What happened?" His mind was racing and a migraine was creeping up the side of his head. Witnessing his own sister in such distress made him anxious and concerned.

"You have been out for a week. I was so, so worried. I told them it was better that way, that you wouldn't have to suffer. I told them to do it, but they were adamant not to. After all, you are their heir. " The older girl grasped his palm tightly as if to provide him with some assurance or draw some comfort for herself. Whichever it was Heinrich could not tell. Her words only made him more confused, yet his arms would envelop around the girl to console her but the crying would only continue.

"I tried, I really did. I insisted but Mother refused. I'm so sorry Heinrich. You're... a lycanthrope, "

──────────────────────────────────

It was quite ironic given that the shy boy would never hurt a fly. Heinrich was a soft-spoken boy with a heart of gold who would cause no harm, yet this trait was at times taken advantage by others. Although he has yet to experience the full package of his transformation during his first full moon taking place in December January admin edit done on 9/11/21 for timeline reconciliation, week after week he already took notice of the small changes that his body began to go through in order to adapt to the impending ordeal. The muscles grew and harden yet his generally elongated figure was still maintained. His senses seem to have sharpened, the sounds, smells and his sight was honed. It took a while for him to get used to the change and more so the absence of his sister.

Little did Heinrich know that this transformation would build into his character. Although he has yet to experience the true effects of the manifestation of his beast, he does at times find the agitation stirring inside of him. Reacting unexpectedly and some time outside his control. This only gives him a taste of what to expect during the real transformation. The reason why his own sister thought it was better for him not to experience ever.

Everly had always had a sense of things going on. Perhaps it was just her attuned senses, or déjà vu, but somehow Everly had a sense of things that were happening. She had grown up with it, but she noticed every single tiny thing going on around her. Though Everly didn’t pay too much attention to this sort of knowledge growing up, as she grew older, she began to notice more how people around her did these things. It was like she had some kind of sense that something would happen before it happened. It was weird, but she didn’t pay too much attention to it when she was younger. When her family began moving around and times were hard, she forgot about it, but it was in the back of her mind, nagging. And it came back during her first act of magic; she was looking for the small garment when she had a sort of flash, her mind as if acting on it’s own, and as quick as it had come it was gone. She found herself on the floor and not a single scratch on her. And somehow, she had some sort of feeling just a second ago that she would end up like this, the garment in her hand. Her gaze turned down to her hand - it was sitting right there, the piece of clothing she had been looking for.

It happened again soon after she had gotten her Hogwarts letter. Everly could remember that happening like it was yesterday. The excitement bubbled up in her as she and her family were making their way down Diagon Alley. Her gaze travelled down to the supplies list in her hand, and suddenly she felt this sort of feeling that Amara, her younger sister, would get hurt, trip over an uneven stone and fall. Her muscles tightened and her hand clenched, and just as she blinked the feeling was gone. Poof, like magic. Then, she glanced over to the right of her and it was like the moment froze. She couldn’t do anything to help her little sister, she wasn’t quick enough, and her younger sister let out a cry as she fell. Everly bit her lip hard enough to bleed when she heard the small snap, and ever since she’s always regretted that she wasn’t fast enough to trust her senses and stop Amara from falling, though there’s no way to tell if she’d ever be fast enough to save Amara.

That night, after the visit to St. Mungo’s, Everly shut the door to the room containing the family tree and locked it. She spent the night there, studying the Charlton family tree. Her eyes traced the line upwards, spotting name after name. One name seemed to call to her - Alvirea Sylvalor - and began to dig through books of family history. From what she knew, the Sylvalor line had died out after her mother married her father, but she had realized that she didn’t know much about her grandparents or the line she’d come from. Everly dusted off a cover of one book, coughed, and began to read.

Alvirea Sylvalor, born of Amelia and James Sylvalor, was widely known throughout her time for her talented abilities and her Inner Eye.

Everly’s hand brushed over that piece of text, her heart pounding and mind racing. She read it over and over again, pondering on what it meant, trying to figure out what those words meant, and how they would impact her. She figured, the next morning, she’d talk to her parents and figure out what this all meant.

Simon Kincaid's life has never been normal, and yet since it is all he knows, it has been normal to him. He was a boy born without his father, as his parents met and had a short romance before something just didn't seem right about Adrianus Hawthorne and the more she spent time with him, the more unsettled she felt. Arabella Kincaid ended the relationship, just shortly before she discovered she, at the young age of 17, was expecting their child. She would never tell Adrian about the baby and would raise him on her own. After all, with her parents' both passing away due to an accident, she had been independent before and she could do so now. She had some help this time too in her sister, Maggie Kincaid.

Simon would be a happy little boy in most cases but would cause his mother and aunt little grief early on, as all young ones do. He had a tendency to not sleep often and he absolutely HATED to go out in the sun. Avoiding it at first, as the baby grew to a toddler, they tried to get him out more only to discover it would severely burn his pale little skin. One particular weekend, the two sisters took the boy for a stay outside London and to the coastline of England to enjoy the beaches; thinking the little one would enjoy the waves and sand. They hadn't stayed out long, but Simon ended up with, what they thought, was quite a severe sunburn. An appointment was made and a doctor had suggested perhaps it was Xeroderma Pigmentosum, a rare gentic disorder that caused aversion to sunlight. By this time, Arabella Kincaid had been battling her own health problems and didn't want to put what she thought was unnecessary testing onto her little boy so she accepted this as fact and continued on, keeping Simon happy and helping to encourage happiness while indoors.

She passed away when he was three and he fell under the sole care of his Aunt Maggie. By now she knew all his little quirks about being the fastest and strongest three-year old ever possible (at least in her mind) and kept him indoors mostly. He was also one of the smartest little boys she had ever come across and he began speaking at a young age. He was passionate and inquisitive and wanted to absorb all he could about the world around him and she adored her nephew to no end. Still, now and again, for some reason she couldn't quite place, he would give off this slight aura of being somehow...different.

For Maggie Kincaid, she figured it had something to do with the fact that her older sister had finished her secondary education at a school of magic and maybe that sort of thing ran through Simon's bloodline. Never in her wildest imagination would she think the boy was half magic, half vampire! - Even if she did joke about it from time to time due to his pale skin and aversion to sunlight.

The race I'm applying for: Dhampir

Describe why it fits your character:

Brian had always been fascinated with the obscure and occult. Had loved reading stories about hauntings and vampires and generally all things that went bump in the night.

So knowing that he now was one of these creatures (or at least halfway there) without any knowledge on just how it came to be was just downright frustrating.

All he could remember was his belated celebration of his Potion Mastery. He’d ended up in the outskirts of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, in a tiny inn, not quite certain how he’d gotten there. He only knew that the food was good, the alcohol was cheap and the young couple owning the inn was very nice. He also knew that there was a very good chance that he was a bit tipsy.
Had he been sober, Brian might have noticed the warning signs in time. As he was currently busy nursing another drink, Brian merely thought that the stranger that was now sitting down at his table, looked fairly pale and like he hadn’t slept for a few days. The man looked at Brian expectantly. Had he missed the man asking a question? Was there a custom for outsiders to buy locals a drink? Brian didn’t think that the stranger looked particularly local but then again, he’d been here for all but 10 hours, so what did he know?
“You were at the reading today,” the stranger finally said, breaking through the incredibly awkward silence. Brian blinked, slowly, as his inebriated brain tried to make sense of the stranger’s words. Reading? What sort of reading did he -
“Oh! You mean Bourne? I don’t think I saw you there,” Brian muttered, keeping his voice low. He didn’t trust himself to cast a spell to divert the attention from any muggles in his inebriated state. The stranger merely tilted his head in confirmation.
“I was. I also stayed during the discussion afterward. You had quite a few unorthodox questions regarding Bourne’s new manuscript.”
Brian grimaced. It certainly hadn’t been his proudest hour, asking questions that would have raised quite a few questions (and probably a formal inquiry later down the road) back in England.
“I thought they were quite fascinating. Refreshing, really, that one is so open-minded to ask about the theory of using human blood in potions before condemning it as evil. From my experience, you British are fast in banning research like this.
“Well, it’s not that I really approve of the idea of anything mentioned in Bourne’s new manuscript. But I don’t think that knowledge in itself can be good or evil. It’s just that, in the end, people are going to use it to do messed up things. They usually do.”

What followed was a night of discussion of several more questionable branches or potions and ritual magic. Both Brian and the stranger (Brian somehow never thought to ask for his name) got steadily drunker and drunker as the night went on. The drunker they became, the more obscure their trains of thoughts went until they reached the point where they theorized on the effect of bottled despair and infusions of hope in the same way they had discussed using unicorn blood and human sacrifices.
“What are your thoughts of vampires?” The question came in the early hours of the morning. The inn was quiet, even the innkeepers had thrown in the towel and headed off to bed (after Brian and the stranger had paid for their drinks, as well as for a few more in advance). Brian had since stopped talking in favor of resting his heavy head on the cool (and slightly sticky) surface of the table. Sleep sounded incredibly tempting and he would have most likely drifted off, had the stranger not chosen this very moment to ask that question.
“Huh?” came Brian’s inarticulate reply.
“Vampires, Brian. What do you think of them?” Brian shrugged.
“S’fine with me. Pretty sure they can be used in potions as well. Do you think vampire ashes are actually a thing? Or is that just muggle fiction? I think I forgot.”
“I am fairly certain that there is no such thing as vampire ashes.”
“If you’d burn one, there would be ash though.”
“Finish your drink, Brian,” the stranger said after a pause. Too drunk to argue, Brian did as told before returning to rest his head on the table. Not a minute later, he dozed off with a small voice in the back of his head warning him that Brian would most likely wake up without his wallet in the morning.

Brian did, in fact, wake up without his wallet. He also woke up without any sort of knowledge on how he ended up in the middle of nowhere, somewhere in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. What he did wake up with was his suitcase, his wand, and a letter explaining that the stranger (who apparently was called Devonte, whatever name that was) had apparently tried to turn Brian into a vampire with the original intention of having an acquaintance to share odd potions theories with. Brian thought that could have been rather sweet, if not for the fact that Brian had not really wanted to be a vampire and that they could have shared their weird potions theories even with Brian being fully human.
As he read on, Devonte explained that the ritual had been disturbed, resulting in Brian being condemned to a form of half-state (which in England was classified as ‘Dhampir’) and with Devonte severely injured.
Karma, was all that Brian thought about that. Served the guy right for trying to turn people into whatever creature he fancied. Devonte ended the letter with the instructions Brian would need to keep himself alive and that he would get back in touch eventually.

Brian ended up feeding the letter to the first goat he came across on his way back to civilization. Becoming a dhampir (and a walking cliché, if one were to keep in mind that Brian had been mistaken for a vampire even back when he had been fully human what with his black clothing and pale skin) really hadn’t been something on his bucket list. At the very least, as a potions master, he was more than capable of supplying himself with the necessary potions for whatever life decided to throw at him next.
