Emma had learned from so much reading that she felt or could put herself in other's shoes. It seemed that she got so involved in the fictional character's lives that she could feel what they were feeling or at least have a pretty good understanding. It meant reading could be a dangerous game, her emotions being swayed by the book. There had been a time or two she didn't know about something huge that was sad or frustrating and that emotion had come out quite a bit when she was in a place she would rather not be showing those emotions. But she learned ways around that or to at least minimize the effect. At age 6 or 7, she found that she was more empathetic to others around her, frequently being the person that someone sought out when they were feeling rough emotions and wanted to talk it out. Emma was always there to listen and commiserate, or offer solutions depending on what the person wanted. She didn't always get it right when guessing if they wanted just commiseration or solutions.

At age 8, one of her friends was diagnosed with cancer. She begged her mother for weeks to go visit her when able to, and her mother finally took her after confirming with her friend's mother, warning her that it would be short and attempting to prepare her for what she would see. There was nothing really that could prepare Emma for what changes had occurred in her friend in such a short time. She left with a new understanding of the bad things that could happen and the suffering that existed. It was that that sparked her interest in science, specifically how the body worked. Now when she read non-fiction books, she chose books about the skeleton or the nervous system, even some psychology books. She depended on her grandfather's recommendations, mainly because while she wanted to learn, she also knew her limitations. Or well she had learned them after the first time she chose a book much above her current level. It fascinated her as did the psychology beyond people.

Once she learned she was magical, she grabbed as many books on the wizarding world as she could, absorbing as much knowledge as possible. This included her continued interest in the human body, and it was there she found out about healing spells. They fascinated her, especially as she became a duellist, in an effort to make sure her family was always protected. Her mindset became even if she couldn't protect her family, she could at least heal them. Not to mention there was all kinds of muggle diseases that magic could heal. You could never know what happened, and Emma was determined to be prepared for the worst.

Dora hadn't always been much of a collector. It's generally discouraged in the Everridge household for a young lady to bring random bits and bobs back in her dress pockets. Flowers go in vases, and weeds get thrown out. Shiny stones stay where they are because they have no real value. Dora stuck to these rules for a good half of her first year at Hogwarts. When she received an empty black notebook from her uncle for Christmas, little did she think it would be the beginnings of her collection.

At first she wasn't sure what to use it for, writing little notes and thoughts in it now and again. Then one morning, on impulse, she picked up a pretty feather in the owlery and stuck it between the pages. She took care that it wouldn't fall out, and though she wasn't certain why she'd kept it, she knew that it made her feel good to. Sometimes, she'd pick up something small that caught her eye, a spotted leaf or the like, and tuck it in between pages like a bookmark. Then her friend taught her how to press flowers, and she began to do that too. Then she'd date them and write a bit about how she found them, sometimes making little sketches as well.

She later discovered that she could sometimes recognize certain plants from her textbooks. Cross-referencing with her potions book to make sure she had it right, Dora felt excited to find these components out in the wild. Mistletoe berries, fluxweed, and flowers like poppies and aconite. All kinds of common potion ingredients out and about, all around. She knows her uncle brews many types of potions, and seen the jars and containers of ingredients in his workshop. He goes out and purchases them, but what if he could just harvest them himself? What if Dora could?

So, when she had any time for a stroll, Dora would bring a jar and collect certain things she recognized. Experimentally, she ground up flower heads according to her textbook to see if she could make some standard ingredient. That part was harder, and it didn't always turn out, but she kept practicing. Justifying this as extra studying for understanding potions, Dora picked up the habit of picking things up.

It continued when she returned to the manor for summer, though it had to be more discreet in front of her grandmother, who thought of it as a messy habit. Perhaps it was, but Dora liked it. She liked picking up useful things, and proving that maybe she was smart enough for something.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Parselmouth
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Enola Delucchi was born on a drizzly Tuesday in 1986, in Florence, Italy. Her parents were both from a long line of pureblood wizards and witches, thus meaning they inherited a large amount of wealth. They lived in an ancient manor passed down for generations, and looked down their nose at Muggles and those who in their opinion, were not of ‘pure’ blood. But none of this was noteworthy. What made them stand out was the fact that they practiced dark magic.

Though they were never particularly well-known, her mother was always certain that she was fated to become the next Dark Lord, for she had something else that rendered her special, even among all the dark wizards and witches of the magical community— she could speak to snakes. There was a rumour that it was an ability an an ancient, long-forgotten ancestor of hers possessed, though it was never confirmed. At any rate, it showed itself once again in her. Being a Parselmouth caused her to be even more full off herself, believing that she was superior to all others, even purebloods like herself. But this ability did not help her in her attempted conquest of the magical world, and she never did succeed, or made much of a name for herself.

For some reason, the ability was skipped over in her daughter, which was disappointing, but that did not stop them from pushing her toward the Dark Arts. Enola never had the slightest interest in dark magic, however, and wished every day that once she came of age, she could escape this place. Her parents were not abusive- just overly insistent on her taking the same path they took. Even when she expressed not wanting to take part in any kind of illegal or dark magical activity, they ignored her.

When she turned seventeen, the chance finally came. A day after her birthday, she packed up a few belongings, some money, and left home. Perhaps a normal person would not have been able to make it to England on so few supplies, but Enola was a witch, and quite a good one at that. Her abilities were just not used in the right way back with her parents.

When she finally arrived, she worked odd jobs for a few years, saving up for a house and eventually took a position in the Ministry— she had been quite a good student at school, and since her parents were never very accomplished as dark wizards, there were no complications. Enola never heard from her parents ever again, whether they couldn’t find her or simply didn’t care, she didn’t know. She lived the life she wanted- no dark magic, just.. normal.

Eventually, the witch settled down and took her husbands name, fully leaving her past behind at last. They had two children, half bloods. Though they did not know it yet, their daughter Renelle Dalton had inherited the strange talent of her grandmother- the ability to speak to snakes. She was a Parselmouth.

Of course, the girl in particular did not know about this special ability of hers yet. Not until the summer after her first year at Hogwarts, when she encountered a snake. The details were quite standard— the snake spoke and she understood. After a few days of wondering if she was going mad, Renelle would finally come to terms with this strange but amazing ability of hers.

Wandmaker:
Length: 11 Inches

Wand Core: Rougarou Hair
Effect:
• 10% of the damage done by a "dark" spell is done to a target that was successfully hit by a dark spell every round for the duration of the thread. This is considered to be "bleeding" and can be countered with the bandaging charm.
• In Duelling: This bleeding effect is limited to 4 rounds. If hit by another dark spell in the meantime, the bleeding effect is replaced with the new one.
• On a critical success with a "dark" spell, a second target (only if defined by the caster before this has been rolled) can be targeted, if no secondary target is declared then nothing happens.
• -10% damage done with non-dark spells.

Wand Wood: Walnut
Flavor: a weapon of precision, this wand often leaves minimal marks in its wake (such as scars) and is not known to be overly flashy so spells that normally draw attention are not nearly as noticable.

Flexibility: Sturdy

Wood Explanation (WC: 117):
Walnut wood helped this wand chose young Sebas due to his intelligence. It was not especially surprising considering that both of his parents had excelled academically. The Spaniard came from a long line of pureblood, high performing wizards on both sides. Later in life, it became clear that Sebastián did not use his intelligence the same way, but he certainly possessed a clever wit even as a child. Walnut fits him because of this cunning intelligence, but also his desire to be subtle. The quieter, less flashy effect of Walnut fit this aspect of him as well. Sebas later in life would become a cat animagus, stealth incarnate. He enjoys going unnoticed as he does his work.

Core Explanation (WC: 139):
The most surprising part of Sebas' wand is the core. Despite the stereotypical Slytherin and pureblood background, little Sebas was more pure heart more than anything. Even his family line had been more neutral to dark magic in known records. No relative was ever known as a Dark Wizard. This core that seems favored would seem a bad omen, but in reality, it fits perfectly. Sebas sees himself as a hero. He always has ever since he was a toddler playing make-believe. He heard stories of Harry Potter and other famous wizards who defeated great evil. What better wand fits this boy than a wand that is drawn towards dark magic and grows loyal to the owner? Sebas with this core finds a companion willing to follow him on his flawed hero journey into the world of Dark Magic.

Flexibility Explanation (WC: 110):
A sturdy wand, despite the name, does not mean Sebas is close-minded or unwilling to accept any change. This puts him somewhere in the middle of the road. The Spaniard is one who stands by a strong set of morals that he believes will guide him, but he is both open to change and corruptible. While he will often flex the rules just a tiny bit, there is little stray from the line of what is right, and it takes a lot of work to move said line. Sebas is also fairly accepting of others and will bend his life to help someone in need, but only to an extent.

Length Explanation (WC: 108):
At 11 inches, Sebas' wand falls below the longer wands threshold but only by a tiny margin. The Spaniard certainly has a flair for the dramatic at times, but he is generally fairly evenly keeled. While he has a lively personality and is certainly no stiff, he does keep it controlled and has a serious face that can seem short to some people. The length balancing at the top of mid-grade makes sense for Sebas who was just serious enough to be a good professor and administrator, but not make students fear him. Or as one who would have a colorful attitude in class without fully derailing it.

Roleplay (WC: 395):
It was the first year of Hogwarts for the young Sebastián Cazarez and he'd been accompanied by his father to purchase supplies at Diagon Alley. A walk into Ollivanders was one of the first stops, as they'd been told this was the place where the British received their wands. His parents had come from Spain where there was a different supplier and they knew this place only by reputation.

"¿Papá, qué tipo de varita crees que conseguiré en Ollivanders?" Sebas asked his Father, excited to finally get his own wand to fit himself. This translated to: Dad, what kind of wand do you think I'll get at Ollivanders?

"English, Sebas. You need to learn it for school." He chided gently, not answering the question at all.

Once inside the shop, the shopkeeper came forward, saying little before peering at the young wizard. After a few failed examples, a Rougarou walnut wood wand seemed to agree with Sebas.. but it was not quite right. The boy frowned despite the wand choosing him and said it "Feel weird." in heavily accented English.

"The wand chooses the Wizard!" Ollivander had said, making his dad start chuckling. Sebas was supposed to be excited, but it felt off. "Rougarou hair core, and walnut wood. An interesting and oft unstable combination. If you master it, you will have a loyal and powerful tool. But beware of it's draw to Dark Magic."

The last part was hammed up a bit by the shopkeeper, but it held some truth behind it. Sebas' father now frowned as well, looking down at the boy who now held an interesting combination. "Well, it will take time to adjust to it. And you will grow into it, hijo (son)."

Over time, Sebas did learn to embrace the dark draw of the wand and whenever he was frustrated with an assignment or difficult spell, that emotion powered the wand to help the boy. During his first year, Sebas found himself become more in-tune with the wand as well. Letters back and forth with his father helped coach him on bonding with it, as his father also had experience with a sentient (albeit different type) core. By the end of his first year, Sebas was in tune with his new wand and found himself favoring the classes where they learned jinxes, hexes, and curses. And of course, their weaknesses.

This ability is about gaining a new wand after already having your previous wand. This cannot be your first wand. Please change the roleplay to a more suitable instance (where your character already the wand stated in your profile and is gaining this new one).
Status: Closed Sept 18

They only wanted the wand if the wand could be their character's first wand. This is not possible due to the profile card being a source of truth and the fact that this account is OC 5 years old.

Looks can be deceiving.

Her uncle used to say that years ago when he reviewed books and playwrights, and Lindsey remembered shrugging her shoulders when she heard those words. She was far too young and innocent then, with little experience of life.

As she slowly grew up and left the ivory tower of protection, Lindsey suddenly realised that her uncle was right. There might be something more beneath the surface. The most evil could be under the most beautiful skin. The kindest spirit could shine through the ugliest. She was beginning to learn that things weren't always as they seemed, and it struck her again as she witnessed a Metamorphmagus ruin her maternal grandparents' lives. Appearances weren't everything. In fact, the contrast could actually be frightening.

When her first official love was crushed to dust in her fourth year, Lindsey knew she had to look beyond herself. She suddenly realised that she had never really known Jones well, even though they had spent those few months hanging out and talking as close friends. Granted, there were so many pretty girls and boys, but you had to get under the skin to see who they really were. This heartbreak taught her so many things, the most important of which was not to be superficial.

She didn't care so much about appearances now. She looked deeper. Lindsey paid attention to vocabulary and body language when someone spoke to her, and simple staring was replaced by quiet listening. She knew that if she wanted to get to know people well, she had to get into their hearts, not just be charmed by their dazzling smiles. She tried to do this every time she met someone new, or even old acquaintances from her younger days - she might have been imprudent before, but now she had to grow up.

She had also got into the habit of making notes about people. There was a notebook in which she constantly scribbled her thoughts, and now her opinions about the people she met were also included. Of course, most of the notes were about analysing their personalities. Their appearance wasn't so important anymore. As she did so, she could feel that her mind was becoming clearer by the day and that she was slowly leaving behind the dreamy pink bubbles of a young and immature girl. She had definitely changed a lot, and hopefully for the better.

Look inside. Don't just simply look at it.

Growing up in the countryside, Alexa thought her life was like a dream. Playing around the lush greenery, breathing in the fresh air and playing around with her friends and family. Her parents nurtured her, and sheltered her from the harsh reality, while she lived her fairytale life.

When she was 8, she had gone out to play as usual, but she had decided to return home earlier. As she neared her house, she saw her father fighting a gang of 4 people, all of them punching and kicking each other. Alexa stared in shock as she saw the loving face of her father transform into that of a scary beast, covered in blood and bruises, his eyes alight with anger.

Her father chased the people away from the house and was about to go and clean himself up, when he took notice of young Alexa, standing near the house, her world slowly crumbling and revealing the reality. He spread out his arms, and she saw those gentle features return to his face. She ran to give him a hug, and decided that they would heal his wounds before any other questions were asked.

Alexa’s father, Peter, dressed his wounds with Alexa’s help, and then sat down on the couch, ready to explain everything to his daughter.

“Alexa,” he began, “I have tried to shelter you from the harsh world, but now that you have seen it, I do not wish to keep you in the dark. You have to realize that there are bad people in this world. People who aim to hurt us. They may have a reason or they may not. But they aim to hurt us and if we don’t wish to get hurt, then we have to fight back.”

“But, aren’t you scared that they’ll hurt you too much? I don’t like seeing you hurt dad.”

Peter smiled at Alexa. “Oh, my daughter. You must never fight for the sake of fighting. It must always be for a reason. My reason, is that I want to protect our family. Your mother may be able to use magic but I have to rely on my fists to protect us.”

“But how will I know if the reason is good enough to fight?” asked Alexa.

“Well, if it can be resolved without violence then you should never raise a fist. Only if all other methods fail, or if you’re fighting to protect someone you love, then it can be justified.”

Alexa stayed silent for a while, thinking about what her father had just said.

“Dad,” she asked slowly, “can you teach me how to fight as well?”

Peter was stunned at her question, “Why would you want to learn how to fight?”

“Because I want to protect you and mom! If those people come by again, I don’t want you to be alone.” Alexa answered with a smile on her face.”

Peter was taken aback by the innocent yet mature reasoning of his daughter.

“I will teach you,” said Peter, “provided that you promise me one thing. You must only fight someone when there is no other alternative. Your words are more powerful than your hands will ever be.”

Alexa agreed and since then, Peter taught Alexa all the basic moves required for her to be able to defend herself, and helped her hone her skills over time.

Roa’s bloodline is mixed, on his father’s side, one parent was a vampire and the other human. Which parent was which was never revealed and unclear, but they had Roa’s father. Roa’s mother was a failed turning. Roa’s parents met via a support group for Dahampir’s, his father helping his mother get used to having her abilities. As both parents were 50/50 vampire and human, when they had Roa, he was the same.

His father had always struggled to find a place to fit in. His parents hadn’t been expecting him either, it was supposed to just be a one night fling, but his mother got pregnant and everything went downhill. Being part human, the vampires looked down on him for being inferior, and being part vampire, he didn’t quite feel comfortable around humans. His parents split up shortly after he was born. his mother being his primary caretaker for four years until she put him in foster care. He was always sent from house to house, every human family finding him off putting, and no vampire family would take him in. Eventually, when he’s sixteen, he lands himself in a dhampir family. Just a small group of dhampir’s who banded together to make a safe haven. This small group eventually turns into the support group, though it’s not well known and pretty small.

His mother, a young, struggling African American, was part of a failed turning. Her whole life, she had been struggling to get her education, and then as a teen, a job. She came from the lower class, and one day, met a vampire. Though at the time, she just thought he was just a rich white guy. He promised her power, fortune, and status in the world. She thought she had met a sugar daddy. One she would have been happy with. Until it turns out she has to be turned. She goes along with it, not thinking much of it. Halfway through the turning, something goes wrong. She’s not quite sure what, she doesn’t remember. The next thing she remembers is waking up outside.

She was hungry and in an unfamiliar place. SHe was alone for a while after that, maybe three months before she met Roa’s father, and heard about the support group. She’d been struggling to get used to the abilities she’d gained during the turning. She then met up with the man once a week at a local cafe, him helping teach her about her abilities. Eventually it went to every other day, then every day and then almost all the time, eventually, they both started dating. They date for about 4 years before they tie the knot. One year later, they have Roa, their cute little Dhampir baby.

They raise Roa to know his heritage and be proud of it, though to be careful with whom he shares it, knowing that if people know he’s a half-being, they might treat him differently. They give Roa a mixed diet of solid food and blood, making sure the boy is used to both. When Roa turns seven, his parents are intentionally killed while driving home from a date night, though it is made to look like a drunk driving accident.

Though the person who killed his parents didn’t survive to crash, it’s rumored that one of Roa’s paternal grandparents ordered the kill. So, eventually, when Roa's father grew up and had his own little dhampir family, one of his paternal grandparents thought ‘this is my chance’ three birds with one stone, except little Roa wasn’t in the car, and therefore didn’t die. It’s unsure which grandparent (it’s his paternal grandfather), but the cause is that they believed Dhampir’s to be unnatural. As everyone believed it to be a drunk driving accident, there was no investigation. No one was left living after the accident, and no one was around.

This leaves Roa to be sent to his aunt's house in london, who is muggle, though she knows about the magical world. Roa’s mother and her sister were very close, and Roa’s mother told her sister about the failed turning. It would definitely take him forever to tell anyone, and he may get a little caught up on the fact that he didn’t really have much help learning his powers as a kid. His aunt would have kept him away from others in an attempt to keep him safe, which would be another leading cause for him to be anti social.
