Year 1

Name of Ability that you are applying for: Healer’s sage

Describe why this fits your character:
Scott has never been one to really get hurt. He isn’t particularly clumsy, and he doesn’t attract nor seek out danger the way many Gryffindors (or so he has been led to understand) do... This is not to say he’s not at all familiar with injury. Quite the contrary: for as long as he can remember, he’s been asked by his father to fetch different herbs or bottles for Silas’ broken arms, or to sit quietly by as his mother straightens out Ben’s bleeding nose with a quick Episkey!

Or to stay out of the room, whilst a Draught of Peace is being carefully prepared.

And he’s studied this, all of it, as closely as he’s been able to for years. Not just because it’s magic, which has always fascinated him in itself, but because the sight of his family’s wounds healing and their pain easing inspired something very warm within him. The very first time he could understand what he saw, he found himself filled with a wish to always comfort and help, and to never have to see another person in pain ever again. Then of course, it wouldn’t take long for him to realise how this was a wish that would never truly come true:

Letters would start arriving from Europe, explaining how and where Silas had gotten hurt this time, and what the insurance would and wouldn’t cover. And they would worry Scott sick.

Letters would start arriving also from Hogwarts, explaining how and with whom Ben had fought this time, and what the nurse is tired of helping him with... And they would worry Scott sick.

But worst of all: already in his first year at Hogwarts, did Scott have to visit his closest friend in the hospital wing. To see her lie still and in excruciating pain, and to then on top of this find himself of no use was (due possibly to how he rarely gets hurt himself) the most broken he’d ever felt.

All he figured he could do then was comfort her. So he’d gave that job all he had; with stories and with jokes, with tears and with smiles. He’d wish with every bone in his body that hers wouldn’t hurt, and with every cell in his head that hers wouldn’t ache.

And so from this he learned, and still carries with him, how comfort is the best first step when it comes to curing anything. Of course, there’s always more spells to learn and always more potions to master- but he knows even now, how within him is both the capacity and the undying will, to mend.

Year 2

Name of Ability you are applying for: Prodigal Charms Learner

Describe why this fits your character:
During her own time at Hogwarts, Gretchen Alexander excelled in Charms class. She was good with many subjects, but it was undeniable how something very special occurred during those hours a week with Professor Flitwick. In fact, her talent for the practice was the first thing the Slytherin learnt to be truly proud of, that didn’t have anything to do with her name or blood status.

So, in her adult life and in her life as a mother, it is understandable and fair to say that she’s tried very hard to get her sons as interested in the charming world of Charms, as she was back in the day:

Silas, first, had nothing against the class at all. He was a smart kid and he took all of his lessons seriously. But in the end, never did his marks in Charms even compare to his ones in Transfiguration. Not to mention in flying.

Next, she placed her bets with Ben. Though it didn’t take long for her to sorrowfully let go of that dream, when he’d smashed the third porcelain teapot against a wall with a yell, when it didn’t start spinning the way he’d wanted it to...

But with Scott, she was more than determined. He was the only one out of them that was biologically hers, after all, and so if any of them should have inherited the knack then it would’ve been him. And soon enough (though wether this had anything to do with genes we cannot determine), Scott began showing great interest and skill of his own when it came to the art.

Finally.

Gretchen was over the moon. She began searching both attics and basements after her old schoolbooks and notes, she bought new editions with fancy bookmarks and signatures, re-read the school’s syllabuses for him before the beginning of each year and took his wand for regular assessments- to make sure the unicorn hair didn’t wear out...

None of this, except for maybe the reading of books, bothered Scott in the slightest. It would’ve been understandable if it did, but as stated before: he very much liked the subject himself. Truth be told he liked all of them, but Charms did seem to come naturally. He liked to practice the impressive ones in class, or play around with the handy little spells when he had nothing else to do. For a boy who loved magic in the way and to the extent that Scott did, nothing was more satisfactory than to learn incantation after incantation.

Name of Ability or Race that you Are Applying for:
Ability

Fearless
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
From a very young age, Griseldis heard a lot of stories from her father about the heroic Harry Potter and since then she always dreamed to become a courageous hero like him one day. So she has a very strong sense of justice. However, that justice could sometimes get herself into all kinds of trouble. When she saw someone getting bullied, she would throw herself to protect the person and fight against them without thinking about the consequences. The result was the same as usual, she got bruises all over her tiny body and created a huge mess. But knowing that she was able to do the right thing and protected the person from harm made her really proud of herself, not regretting her decision to go against the foes that might be stronger than her.

Griseldis didn’t know what fear really is until she was 6 years old. She learned about fear in a very hard and traumatic way. During the family vacation in Australia, she got bitten by a highly venomous black wider spider and had her first time experience near death. If her father didn’t cure her with an antidote in time, she would have lost her life on that very day. After that horrifying incident, she grew to fear even the tiniest spider.

Once she became a student of Hogwarts, it was obvious that Griseldis is a born Gryffindor. Beside her Arachnophobia, she was still a very brave girl, willing to face against all the odds and help other fellow students when they needed help. During her first year learning so many subjects, it did turn out that her Ace subject was either Charms or the Defense against the Dark Arts, but she loved Professor Pendrast's unique way of teaching and all the defensive Charms she could learn from the Defense Against the Dark Arts class and also learning about many different kinds of dangerous Dark magical creatures intrigued her very much.

This passion made her have a strong desire to protect her loved ones from the potential threats they might encounter in the near future. By learning this ability "Fearless" gives her a lot of benefits having a certain resistance against all kinds of fear effects, but it doesn’t really make her invincible, it’s something that she could understand the meaning and the true propose behind. Even though she has a fear of spiders, if any of her friend or a family member are in danger that involves spider-like creature, she wouldn’t hesitate to step out and face her own greatest fear to protect the people she loved and cared about.

What is bravery? True bravery is to able to admit your fear and try your best to confront them, that is what Griseldis strongly believed in by studying this ability.

Race: Metamorphmagus

Description:
There are three things that a Alptraum is most known for. The first thing being how crazy wealthy the family is. Second is how long the family has been around; the Alptraums have been around for ages- now they might not be the most ancient pure-blooded wizarding family, but they're definitely up there. Last but certainly not least, the Alptraums are known for possessing the ability to "shapeshift".

While Metamorphmagi are not a very common find among your average family of wizards; Metamorphmagus seem to be extremely common in the Alptraum household. Most of the members of the Alptraum household seem to have the trait; with of course the exception of an great great uncle (who is now deceased), and a cousin (who is also deceased). It has been recorded in some very old text, owned by the family; that the trait can sometimes completely skip generations- or go completely into dormant. It is unknown if this is true though, since those who wrote in the text have been dead for centuries.

With great power, comes great responsibility. To avoid abusing these powers, the Alptraums have their own little sets of rules. But there is one rule that cannot by any means be broken. An Alptraum who is a Metamorphmagus, is not allowed to turn themselves, into other people, or permanently change a part of their appearance. Do do so is considered an insult. There are acceptable loopholes around this rule though. Xailahs great aunt being a perfect example. Great aunt Tabitha is a very old, and a very vain woman, so she uses her abilities to make herself appear a bit younger. To be fair the other older family members are guilty of this as well, so it is often overlooked.

During the first years of Xailahs life her family thought that she was born without abilities. She later showed signs, but despite what the family has said; Xailah still managed to somehow convince herself that she lacked the abilities of a true Metamorphmagus. What provoked these nonsense thoughts? Why, it was the inability to control some transformations, and the inability quickly change back after a transformation. Yes she is young, yes she is inexperienced. But she doesn't seem to take either into consideration.

Due to this she sees herself as an outcast in her family, and feels that she disappointing them when she doesn't succeed at a transformation. This mindset, has caused her to pick up on some strange, and negative behaviors; but it also gives her drive. It essentially shapes who she is as person, and gives reason to actions that some might deem strange.

Her abilities are not the cause of her appearance, but it is possible that her appearance causes hiccups in her abilities. Many many moons ago, Xailahs mother unsuccessfully made a transformation into her Animagus form, and while this mistake would not affect her, it would later affect her baby girl, by giving her a cat-like appearance and senses. Xailah for some unknown reason, feels the need to keep the fact that she is a Metamorphmagus a secret. Perhaps she is afraid of the unknown. What would someone do if they found out? But one needn't worry about the unknown. At least not now. One must focus on the present and keeping their abilities a secret.

Ability: Cats Grace

Description:
Xailah Alptraum was always the odd one out. She was strange- she looked strange, she recently started talking strangely, and she just acts strange. Well, she thought she was strange until she arrived at Hogwarts. There were a handful of strange people at Hogwarts. Hogwarts had it all; from children with naturally purple hair, children who were freakishly tall for their age, to weirdos that sparkled in the sun.

Perhaps these people canceled each other out, and made everyone seem "normal". And maybe these people were the ones to thank for Xailahs strange talent. This talent, or rather skill, is the skill of people watching, sneaking, becoming one with the shadows. A quiet observer. It is a skill that must be refined. One must know when to use it, as well as when not to use it. Unpredictability is key.

Xailah knew that she had always had this skill, since she seemed to be able to sneak up and scare others easily. Though the strange thing is that it was mostly unintentional. She was just naturally pretty quiet, and was always drawn to shadows for some strange reason. But she never really thought anything of this until she got to Hogwarts. Upon arrival she realized that she was practically "invisible" to those around her. Of course this could have been her peers not caring, or even showing a lack of interest in her. Whatever it was, it gave Xailah the upper-hand.

She remembers the first time she snuck out after curfew. She would have been caught, if not for the skills that she was beginning to develop. She was learning that the shadows were friends, and not enemies. This was only the beginning. Sneaking out was like trying a cigarette for the first time; you try it once, knowing that its wrong and makes you sick, but you find yourself coming back for more a week later. Thats were she found herself; coming back for more. And each time was riskier than the last.

But this risk was good. It provided a challenge, and a opportunity to let her skills grow. And it would keep her out of any serious trouble for awhile. Unfortunately she is nowhere near mastering this skill, and she knows it, but she does not yet know her boundaries; often resulting in riskier endeavors. Over time she will learn them, and hopefully she discovers them soon; she proves to be a quick learner so it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Year 1 Ability
Lovely Creature

Reducio
WC 400 | Full Human

All though not the child’s biological parents, for both Adebard and Thellea Bezuidenhout, it was always an honour to have raised such a beautiful baby as well as to watch her grow. Thellea, unlike Adebard, knew the babe’s biological Mother and knew that it was her that the child had inherited this loveliness from. Growing up, Aurelia had received many comments from her adoptive family’s relatives regarding her gifted appearance that it was sometimes for the young child, it was slightly frustrating to be at the center of attention all the time. The older she grew, the harder it was for her to disappear during the many family gatherings to her own peace. True enough, her cousins, not much younger then her had grew jealous at how Aurelia had manage to draw all the eyes in the room on her without much effort.

Aurelia, the name derived from the Latin world Aurelius, meant golden and as glorious as gold she grew up and it was said to be admittedly hard to look away from the child. Of course, Aurelia most of the time would be oblivious to the fact that she had this effect on others. Of course through the watchful eyes of Adebard and Thellea, they knew that their beloved adopted Daughter had this peculiar effect and was worried that she might draw the wrong attention to herself. They became very very protective over her, especially after their own biological Son, Raphael’s sudden death.

A lovely girl Aurelia often received many shy glances from the boys in her class when she was in primary school. Of course, Aurelia had never saw this much of a matter to be concerned with and had ignored the many stated. And no doubt through her transition to Hogwarts, this still continued. But Aurelia has learnt that attention isn’t as good as it sounds. Sure she had acquired many wonderful friends during her first year, however, her second year wasn’t as pleasant as instead of friends, enemies she had gained.

Aurelia has yet to discover her heritage and ancestry of her biological family. Little does she knew that she was an almost splitting image of her biological Mother, the stunning Estelle. Estelle through her rather short lifetime had stolen many hearts of both women and men has had the gift of charming looks as well and Aurelia is fortunate to have inherited her looks.

Year 2 Ability
Evasive manoeuvres

Reducio

WC 401 | Full Human

Thellea Bezuidenhout, née Schutte, had always wanted a child to take on the artistic skill of dancing that most of the Schütte were known to hone. And unsurprisingly the Mother had taught this skill that her own mother had passed on to her to both her beloved children, Raphael, her biological Son and Aurelia, her adoptive daughter before they could even remember. Had first started with small steps and to not too long after these practices had advanced to strong pirouettes. Through her childhood under her adoptive Mother’s guidance, the many graceful movements learnt through the classes caused the young Aurelia to gradually flourished to become flexible, agile and most of all graceful along side her older Brother.

Through the years of training, Aurelia developed strong legs and could move briskly on the tips of her toes without much effort. Dance had even influence her lifestyle as well and her movements on a daily basis had became agile as well as graceful and never sloppy to her Mother‘s own delight. Since young, the girl had always been swift to avoid danger, a ball being thrown at her for example.

When she was about eight years old, she had some friends whom she’d associate with after her primary school had ended with waiting for her Mother to arrive and pick her. They were relatively older than her and naive and had taught her how to defend herself from the bullies they saw the poor girl facing at the school. Not only had they taught her some offensive tactics but had also taught her how to evade if any was thrown her way. These included ducking and jumping out of the way, even some impressive rolling. Of course, at that time, a young child she was and she never really had an instance to use these skills taught to her neither was it something much for the girl to show off about.

Quick on her feet, the girl is when a situation calls for it. This allows the twelve year old Gryffindor to avoid danger and harm coming her direction during many instances including the practice duel she had during her first year which she had, to her own surprise, won. This skill of evasion proved to be beneficial especially around the dangerous halls of Hogwarts when the second year Gryffindor is on her patrolling most often taking place late in the night.

Ability:
Prodigal Transfiguration Learner

Description:
Reducio
Meenauh was fond of books throughout her whole life. Not like just reading them, but actually squeezing the knowledge out of them. Before she discovered the magic and even more after that. Her family's house was literally built from books. As her father was an alchemist, he had a habit of acquiring more and more books and basically transferred his bookworm traits onto Meenauh as she grew.

The books were both about the wizarding world and how it operated and also about the muggle world, how they viewed the world and its laws and science. She learnt techniques to read quickly and storing as much as possible in her memory palace. To analyse the world around her and deducing facts from the information she could perceive.

Her parents told her about the age restrictions for spellcasting, but they never restricted her in terms of reading about the spells and remembering the rules, incantations and gesture movements. Her mental capacity wasn't infinite, so she couldn't remember anything without proper practice, but at least it felt fun to at least know about all kinds of spells in advance. She was mostly interested in Charms and tremendously interested in Transfiguration. Thinking about the latter made her shiver. What the restrictions were, like what really the restrictions were.

Her father always told her that the whole point of his job was to get to the truth. To seek truth and learn it. That's why he stated he was a researcher and proclaimed research as the only way to search for truth in whatever field one planned to find it. So, Transfiguration was the field of magic, which drilled questions through her mind and asked for seeking the truth.

After starting her education at Hogwarts, Meenauh was really hungry for absorbing as much knowledge as she could, especially that she could practise what she learnt before. Her dream was to experiment with the Laws of Transfiguration once she graduates. But for now, she could only practise and dig through the library to find interesting stuff about Transfiguration, its history of development, cases, studies and actual spells.

Transfiguration was never boring and it was more difficult than general Charms. She got used to borrowing books from the second year students with their notes on the pages, and studied them carefully, partially remembering what she had already read and remembered before. And then she practised it until she was happy with the results.

Describe why this fits your character
Raine was always adventurous. Climbing trees to the highest branch- or as far as the tree and her parents would allow her to go- swimming to the deep end of the pool and sitting at the bottom as her parents frantically searched for her, or even venturing off into the woods behind her family's vacation home for hours on end, once again making her parents frantic with worry. Raine never meant to be mischevious. As a matter of fact, she attempted to avoid causing her parents to worry as much as possible, especially since it only led to her being in trouble with them. They had every right to be angry and worried though. One day, during one of Raine's many self-imposed adventures to the woods behind her family's vacation home, she had encountered a mother wildcat with her cubs. If there was one thing Raine knew about wild animals with their young it was that you didn't move farther into their territory and you didn't turn your back on them. Raine also knew that standing in place staring at the family wasn't the smartest of moves either, but she was so fascinated by the little family! She had never seen wildlife in their natural habitat before! So she stood as still as she could with a smile on her face and just observed them. The mother wildcat took a defensive position and snarled at the little girl, but Raine continued to stand and smile.

'Amazing. An actual wild creature in its natural habitat' she would think, not realizing the danger she was in. Her concentration was only broken when she heard her mother's voice directly behind her frantically calling her name. Raine turned her head toward the voice and her mother's scream had the little girl turning back around to see the mother wildcat leaping at her face. But Raine didn't flinch or scream. Instead, she stared the beast in its eyes, watching as it stopped directly in front of her, snarling viciously. A large gust of wind blew from behind her, pushing the animal far from her body and she soon felt herself being pulled back by her mother, watching as the woman put her wand back into her pocket. The mother wildcat took its young and fled from the area. Her mother would ask the normal questions, checking her daughter over before taking her shoulders to give her a little shake. "What were you thinking? Why would you stand there? Weren't you scared?" She would ask.

The little girl would just shake her head and reply, "No. Not at all."

But she remembered overhearing her mother and father discussing their reckless daughter that same night after she was supposed to be in bed asleep. One word came up often, lodging itself in the girl's brain: 'Fearless'. Her father constantly called her his "fearless tiger" or his "fearless princess". Her mother had a different choice of words for their daughter's fearlessness, but Raine tuned it out. Fearless was a constant mantra in her head as she returned to her room.

The title her father had given his daughter didn't guide the girl, however. She just continued to follow her instincts, even now into her school years at Hogwarts. She was the one to throw herself in front of a potentially dangerous half-giant imposter to try and save a girl she didn't even know. She is the one trying to befriend the paranoid, bathroom exploding, stab-happy dhampir that most of the school is afraid of. She is the one who would put her life on the line, within reason of course because Raine isn't stupid, to save her friends.

Many people would say that Raine Titania Sage was just reckless and stupid, but only her friends and family would know that the girl was something other than that. She was something more.

She was fearless.

Race: Seer

I am a Seer. There is not much to say regarding this, I was simply born this way. I do not come from a long line of prophets or diviners, but I do come from a magical family. My parents are both wizards as were their parents before them, however the purity of my blood is a mystery as I have an unknown ancestor a few generations back. It has been a source of familial shame that I will have to endure but I do carry myself like a pure-blood despite this lack of distinction. However, there was a woman in my family tree Angelika Schmidt, born 1582 and burned 1623. It was said that she was 'abnormally gifted' or should I say 'unusually fortunate.' I never thought much of these old stories, about how she would claim calamity would strike and urge her family and neighbors to safety when the creek flooded and the dams broke. I felt that it was simply family historians being braggarts. In a later incident, in similar fashion she urged her family to leave their village for several days and narrowly missed a bandit raid that decminated the small farming village she was from. While a hero in some regards, her fortune became suspicious to the superstitious or perhaps those jealous (of her luck) in the village. She was accused (ironically) of being a witch. She knew that they were coming, she waited for them in her chair famously claiming "--always on time."  They ultimately drowned her then burnt her remains according to my mother.

I was simply born with what I believe were the same strange flashes of intuitive insight. This sixth sense. This dire and foreboding sense of dread. It has shaped me, these strange and dare I say aberrant thoughts. It has kept me from peril but it has also prevented me from overcoming the obstacles chance had intended for me. Whilst true, fortune has been on my side since my youth as I sometimes dream about days that are not here yet. I wish I had some control over what I saw, many of the instances irrelevant, but every once in awhile I would see something. Something terrible or wonderful, it is hard to say. Both a dream and a night terror, the same scene plagues my nights as of late -- of power and ambition. Of a great fall. I thought for certain the hat would designate me a Slytherin but rather I have been given the title of brave Gryffindor instead.

My first instance of a premonition was when I was five. It was a simple, almost silly account. I was eating ice cream as was my friend. I blinked for a long time, but I still saw everything clearly from a different perspective. I saw my friend's ice cream -- mint chocolate chip -- slide off his cone and land in the dirt. I saw him crying. When my eyes opened, the ice cream was still there on the cone, my friend happily and noisily slurping at the green confection.

Then it fell a moment later.

I could not have intervened. What could I have done? save it with my bare hands, dirtying it with my filth rather than the ground. I handed him mine, I did not need it any longer. He started to cry before I did, just like I saw. I just wanted it to stop. French vanilla with a side of tears is less than appealing.

While that was the first I could recall, it was certainly not the last. It has happened hundreds of times since. Many of the incidents insignificant or repetitive. Often they reach for me when I sleep, so I am early to rise and late to sleep. I don't enjoy being troubled.

I cannot change the threads of fate, but I can prepare for it. It is for that reason I try to be strong. I try to be learned. To have friends and allies. Yet I also fear I must lie. That I must be brave. Perhaps through learning how to better control my magic, I will also gain power over this skill. I can only hope that is the case at the very least.

Describe why this fits your character:
Arc had always been a good kid. He rarely cried when he was a baby. He always did as he was told. He never begged his parents for anything, He did well at school. He diligently saved money in his little piggy bank. And he even helped elderly crossed the road. That was not just a front either. He truly liked helping others. He would have helped his classmates if they ever asked. But there was just something about him that made others scared of him.

Newborn babies and animals were the most affected. Infants cried when he walked past them. Birds flew away like a storm was going to happen. They would even take a detour just to avoid flying above or near him. Dogs would constantly bark at him. And insects would never dare be within the same room as the boy. His big brother once even jokingly told that the moment their parents brought him home from the hospital, the house was clear of any bugs or insects. Like the ants just went up and left along with their nest and everything. Only cats and very few fearless animals would have the guts to be near him.

Thankfully, older kids and adults didn’t seem to be as affected. They did not immediately feel danger or threatened. And they could stand being near him. But sometimes. Sometimes, in a random outburst, they could feel that something was not right about him. Their hair would rise, the room felt colder, or his shadow would flicker. And that was enough. That was enough to make kids -and their parents- stayed away from him. Arc was not the weird one out, or the special kid, or bullied. He was just the scary one. Only one girl from a Wizarding Primary School he attended every Saturday, Raine Sage, would befriend him. She always had this energy and spirit within her for everything in life and she didn’t seem to be affected one bit to his strange disposition. Huh. That was curious.

Once the boy entered Hogwarts, though, the outburst happened less and less. The young witches and wizards seemed less affected as well, for whatever reason. And he started making friends. Life was good for a time. Like a calm before the storm...

Until that day, the so-called Blossomfest Festival. A girl was taken by a suspicious half-giant and Arc and his best friend followed them. It turned out that she was really kidnapped to be given to a hag and the two kids tried to save her. Something changed within him after that. Whatever happened in the Keeper of Keys and Grounds’ Cabin had awakened something within him. Permanently. He would have to bear that terrible curse forever.

Now, whenever and wherever, even when he was asleep, he would always have this…terrible presence within and around him.

Link to your encyclopedia thread: Hugh Lowe

Name of Ability or Race that you Are Applying for: Half-Giant
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Roaming Hogwarts' halls by almost a good 6 feet already, it has not been hard noticing that young Hugh Lowe had some damn tall genes in his body. While the young scot had always convinced others that his own father was a large man as well, the boy had not a single clue about his true nature. Questions would eventually have to be stated of course. Questions that would lead him to the truth of his real parentage. A tale of an irregular union and a hard decision.

What is important to remember in this story is that not all monsters are inherently evil. And not all wizards live up to be good. One such example, was Hugh's mother. Far off on the north-eastern shores of Scotland there lived a small clan of giants. The smallest among them would have been a giantess with a long black sea of hair waving in the wind as she'd stroll along the coastline. The area had been magically enchanted after a sealed agreement between the Ministry of Magic and their clan. Muggleproof and far away from any nearby magical neighbours, these giants lived in peace for as long as they could have it.

Master Lowe on the other hand. A ministry career man, burdened with the grand vision of lifting his family's status up to the higher regions of magical society. Though a bit of a stuck-up, the wizard did not have a lack for passion. While his work and actions were known to always be somewhere related to his singular goal. He was also known as a man of adventure and seeking the unknown. A secret love he harboured for all things unique and different.

On one of said secret travels, the man would find himself oddly befriended with a comparatively small giantess. Him and her would connect as both lovers of adventure and wonders of both magic and nature. While he would frequent the giantess' territory more and more. Eventually the two of them would grow fond and some might have called it true love. One day, by the use of a shrinking potion, the young wizard courted the young giantess and asked her for a night to join him to the city. That one night of lovers would eventually gift the pair a son. The boy would have been regarded as a large infant to the ordinary wizard folks, yet tiny to a giant.

Too late did the parents realize that their child would fit in neither world. Hugh's mother, only welcome in her own village, would tell her lover to take the boy and raise him by his side. A young master Lowe would promise, but fail to follow up. As once, he arrived back home with the half-giant babe, his family and his peers knew what was up by sheer suspicion. The young man's reputation suffered and for a year, he tried. Until eventually his toppled pride and shame would cause him to send his son to his sibling.

His uncle was an entirely different man. Born a younger squib in a magical family rising to prominence, the younger Lowe would very quickly become an outcast among his bloodline. Nevertheless, the large Scottish man took his nephew in and raised him as his own, shielding the boy from his father's shame and his mother's heritage. He translated the boy's name to Hugh, a more common name among their folk. The uncle's wife, a young witch aspiring to have children of her own, would grow jealous of the child and the time her husband would spend with him. She would leave Hugh's life as a vague memory of a mother.

After several years of being adopted by his uncle, Hugh would start to show his first signs of magic. The fellow villagers of Blackness would have always known Hugh to be a very tall boy for his age. Joking him to be of giant's blood. Little did they nor the boy know.

Link to your encyclopedia thread: Oriel Falters - Gryffindor
Name of Ability or Race that you Are Applying for: Werewolf
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Oriel  was fine from a young age up until he turned nine years old. During some sort of event a loud howl pierced through the near silent night. His father immediately knew what this was, a werewolf howl. A werewolf howl was pretty easy for him to distinguish with him having an old friend which was one. Quickly, the father ushered his friends and their kids inside, all of them having no clue why. Oriel hadn't made it inside quick enough and before he knew it some sort of hideous and terrifying creature came sprinting at him and bit him right on the shoulder.

After the incident weird things would happen that his father couldn't explain. Oriel would come home some nights with large scratches and cuts all over his body for some reason. His son wouldn't tell him why, in fear of something getting out. This experience was frightening for the boy but he had to stay strong so nobody would find out. How would his family react if they found out he became this large wolf-like creature once a month?! Even though a family friend was a werewolf Oriel was still scared of being viewed as an outcast or his father telling the rest of his magical family and them being frightened of Oriel and not wanting to visit. He loved his grandmother and what if she didn't love him any more?

After he was bitten Oriel became more aggressive and more secretive, afraid something would come out and people would get the wrong idea. It was strange for him, he could smell things he couldn't smell before and every single person had a scent which was extremely weird. He had no access to wolfsbane and slowly began getting more and more paranoid and 'crazy' as it seemed. Oriel would see and hear things people couldn't see or hear but once he was ten this started fading a bit. The boy learned they couldn't see or hear the things because they weren't like him, the things were very much there (which was true) but the others could not see that.

Though his father couldn't realize his son was a werewolf (or more not accept it) his grandmother did but kept it a secret from the boy. She told Oriel's father but he just shrugged it off which made no sense but his father also wants the best for Oriel and if he was really a werewolf that would hurt Oriel a lot. Oriel's dad couldn't realize how incredibly strong Oriel was and still treated him like a child, trying to shield him from the world but apparently also started fogging his own mind over in the process.

Singing would help him ease his mind before the full moon and help him not go completely insane which was pretty nice. Once he got the letter of acceptance he freaked out, how would the teachers react to him being a werewolf?! Pretty well actually.

Let's go back to before Hogwarts. It seemed once he was more introduced to the magical world more and more people would notice his scars and question his father about it which had no answers to it. Many times in the muggle world law enforcement was called due to sounds of screaming and crying and then the next day with Oriel popping up with like seven new wounds.

After Oriel read up on Lycanthropy, he found out about wolfsbane and his hoped went up. Not once in the books did it mention that this couldn't cure Lycanthropy but he still visited St. Mungos to see if he could get the potion and he could. One of the nurses would brew the potions and only charge him visits to the hospital to see her as she had no offspring. The nurse turned out nice and wolfsbane really did help him stay pretty sane, honestly. Of course it disappointed him when he found out the potion did not cure the Lycanthropy but at least it helped a little bit.

Once he got to Hogwarts he lost connection to the nurse, figuring something happened to her (again, still had the paranoia). Thankfully he still got access to the potions AND got to go to a safer place to transform which was definitely a great thing especially since he never really had somewhere like this. (576 words)
