Olivia and her family have a good relationship. She has an older brother named Patrick and a younger sister named Ava. Olivia spends a lot of time with Ava, actually more than with Patrick. They have an owl named Snowy. She is their messenger. She was homeschooled and has one neighborhood best friend, Ivy. She and Ivy are neighbors, so it is often difficult to hide her family's magic from Ivy's family. Still, Olivia and her family manage somehow.

One Day, Olivia was playing at the camping site with her siblings and Ivy, when Ivy's dog, Daisy, couldn't get down from a tree after climbing up. Olivia tried to save her, but then the branch her left foot was on snapped off, and Olivia was falling. She had fainted during the fall. When she woke up, she was nestled safely on a patch of green grass with Daisy in her arms, when she hadn't even reached Daisy during her attempt to save her.
