Personality: Isabelle lives a fine line between enjoying adventure and looking for danger. She claims to simply be adventurous and hating to sit still, but she does have a talent for trouble. She is friendly most of the time, but can occasionally have drastic mood swings. She is courageous, determined, and constantly curious. She believes people learn through experiences, which is probably why she enjoys trying new things. Isabelle is very blunt and honest, which others don't always appreciate. She acts without thinking things through a good deal of the time, and though friendly, is sometimes a bit of a loner. She is very opinionated and has trouble asking for help. Isabelle also has ADHD, but it's not something she typically shares.
History: Isabelle's family consists of her mother, father, and older sister, Liv. Her parents have always been, as long as she can remember, less strict about her upbringing and public image than other pureblood families. She was always free to do as she pleased, as long as it wouldn't reflect shamefully on her family. Where Izzy is adventurous and carefree, her sister is rational yet creative. Liv always has been the one to pull Isabelle back from the crazier ideas that pop into her head. The two girls are incredibly close, regardless of their different personalities however. As Isabelle and Liv, who was only a year older than her sister, grew up, the girls' parents hired private tutors for them both. They were expected to learn more than others their age, so that when they finally attended Durmstrang, they would be ahead of the others in their year. Liv took her schooling very seriously, wishing to impress her family. Isabelle, on the other hand, did not. She spent her school hours daydreaming and doodling instead of actually studying. Of course, she wanted to make her parents proud of her, but her attention span was very short. One day when she was seven, she was expected to write out an essay over the topics she was covering with her tutor. She had not been paying attention that day in the slightest, and panicked for a brief moment, wondering how she could pull off a good enough essay. Magically, she found her hand moving across the parchment, writing a wonderful paper. This was her first instance of magic.

Ever since she was a young child, Isabelle Hansen loved to learn about spells, charms, jinxes, you name it. Specifically, she enjoyed learning how to cast these spells. Even without a wand, she studied up on different spells almost daily, for she wanted to be ready for when she did acquire a wand and to be one of the most talented students in her year. True, she was not great when it came to her tutored studies (she easily lost focus and tended to daydream instead of paying close attention), but this was different. It was something she was interested in, and that made all the difference to her. Unfortunately, her tutor didn’t see it that way. He only saw a girl falling behind in classes and not trying to catch up.

Not good enough. She’s not good enough to go to Durmstrang. She’s not good enough to be even an average witch. She’s not good enough to do this. She’s not good enough to do that. That’s all Isabelle seemed to hear when her tutor gave his feedback to her parents on how her studies were progressing. Of course, he mentioned none of the extracurricular reading she had done. It was only ever “she’s not good enough”.

Isabelle couldn’t stand the criticism she was receiving. It wasn’t her fault she couldn’t stay attentive in his lessons. They would drive even the most school- oriented person mad with boredom. Or asleep, depending on the day. She made a silent promise to herself. She promised that despite the criticism, despite “not being good enough”, she would continue to study her books of spells and charms and jinxes. She would continue to learn as much as she could on her own before she started classes at Durmstrang. She would prove everyone who thought she wasn’t good enough wrong.

Perhaps it just got under her skin, the hateful words of others, or perhaps she was just one determined witch, but whatever the case, she did just as she said she would. She continued to study right up until she began her first year at Durmstrang Academy. With all the extra knowledge she had gleaned from the pages of weathered titles long forgotten in her family’s extensive library, she was not just an average witch, but an amazing one. With the extra knowledge, she had an edge to her peers and was able to cast spells easily and (usually) flawlessly. All of her hard work really did pay off. As for the judgmental tutor of hers, well, he never called Isabelle “not good enough” again after seeing her flourish and perform beautifully among other witches and wizards her age.
