Clarification to the Letters Rules, specifically with iNPCs/dNPCs
The letters subboard of the forum is slightly different to other roleplay areas. The rules regarding iNPCs and dNPCs still apply there. However, since there's been some confusion, we're just clarifying some of the common mistakes that happen to try and reduce the number of people who make it. Please see the addition of rule 11 and 12 in red below. It is mostly just to help clarify things.

During the busier days, such as during the exam period, it's hard to see all of your friends and hang out with them. Muggle devices, such as phones, do not work in the school. When technology fails you, rely on the good old reliable owl system. Letterwriting is a great way to stay in touch with your friends and these fantastic school owls are the way to do that.
Rules & Guideslines:
1. Use this sub-board to write In Character [IC] letters to your friends, in between the RPG threads.

2. The word count for this area is reduced to 50 words.

3. Use [PV] tags in your title to indicate who the owls are between.

4. You may use pictures, such as handwriting fonts, for your letter if you wish to do so. For images, it might be best to upload the images to an external image hosting site, such as "imgbb" or "imgur".

5. If you use an image for your letter, please ensure to write the content of the letter out in reducio.

6. No spamming or OOC letters allowed in this letter. It must be IC. Only IC words will count towards the WC.

7. Please remember these are letters! We recommend you add a date to them, so they make sense between your RP threads, especially if different to today's dates.

8. If you're writing IC letters with a Quill Pal, you can post them in a thread here if you wish to.

9. Although this sub-board is in Hogwarts, you can add a location + date to your letter and use it during the school breaks too.

10. If you want your thread to be locked, please mark it as [Finished] (which is not the same as [Solo]) or contact a staff member. Otherwise, your thread will remain unlocked in light of people creating journals and spaced-out correspondence threads.

11. You may use this board to write letters from iNPCs. However, you must follow iNPC rules - including putting a picture on it and ideally a link to your encyclopedia.

12. Make sure it is clear to everyone if you're writing from a PC, iNPC or dNPC. They should not have to check or know. Specify this clearly, for instance:

Magical Race/Talent and Special Ability Section of Sports
The "Magical Race/Talent and Special Ability" sections in Broom Racing and in Quidditch have undergone an aesthetic update (following the update on the main post mentioned here: [link]). This is so each sport addresses ALL the race/talents and special abilities in their systems. Some race/talent abilities won't affect a sport, and to make that clear they are included in the list with an "N/A" (not applicable).
The aesthetic update to Duelling's section is coming soon!

Duelling Magical Race/Talent and Special Ability Section
The "Magical Race/Talent and Special Ability" section in Duelling has undergone an aesthetic update (following the update on the main post mentioned here: [link]).

Magical Races/Talents and Special Abilities in Duelling

For duelling, this included adding race/talent abilities that were not included before, so this is also a minor patch to the system itself that will affect the 2023-2024 duelling season. The following are the additions:
  • WEREWOLF
    • [Year 7] Intimidation - This causes all duellists who do not have Fearless to suffer from a -1 accuracy and a +1 critical failure chance for the entire duel.
  • PART-GIANT
    • [Year 5] Damage Reduction: 50%. - Any damaging spell that hits them will deal 50% less damage (applied to both spell damage and effects damage).
    • [Year 7] Unbound - Cannot be bound by spells, eg Full Body-Bind Curse and Fulgari.
  • PART-GOBLIN
    • [Year 5] Armour - A part-goblin's armor can be worn in a duel. Adjustment slots must be declared in their starting post.
    • [Year 7] Armour: +2 Slots. - A part-goblin's armor can be worn in a duel. Adjustment slots must be declared in their starting post.
  • SEER
    • [Year 5] Indiscriminate Knowledge - Spells cast by Seers cannot critically fail and their spells have a +1 chance of critically succeeding.
    • [Year 7] Fate Spinning - Fate spinning is a skill many Seers have which serves as a second chance. In this special move, if a Seer's rolls fails at something, they can use one or more of their three chances to re-roll again and hope for success. This can be used up to three times in a duel. Note, the use of Fate Spinning must be stated by the player when they send their actions. For example: "If I miss with _____ curse, use one instance of fate spinning to try again."
  • PART-VEELA
    • [Year 7] Temperamental - +3 to their critical success range, and a +1 chance to critically fail with attacks. The chance to critically fail is negated if they have Perfectionist II.
  • PARSELMOUTH
    • [Year 7] Dark Heritage - The Parselmouth gains +1 accuracy, +1 critical success range and +10% damage done with any curses they cast. The spells included are the spells marked "Curse" in the duelling spells list here: [link]

A Repeat Announcement

Due to a clerical error, we failed to edit an amendment to the Quidditch System that was posted in this project bulletin on May 20. As this change might have been overlooked and we strive for transparency and feel it would be in bad faith to quietly make an intended change, we are re-announcing this edit.
The match will forcibly end with the point total frozen that moment if any of the following conditions are met:
  • The snitch is caught
  • There are no seekers left on both teams
  • One team is completely KOB
  • One team has no way to score more points (eg they have no chasers/seekers/keepers - beaters cannot quaffle grab so they cannot earn points if they're the only ones left on the field)
  • Forfeit
A forcible ending ends the match immediately, this means that the point total is frozen at that time. There would not be an additional period of time for a team to engage in finding the snitch or grabbing the quaffle uncontested to rack-up points.

Sport System Patch Aug 2023

Information regarding the Leaving of a Team has been updated in the Sports on Hogwarts.io thread.
Leaving the Team
A player may leave a team at any point. It is recommended that a player leaves the team between games rather than during a game because it will leave their team at a disadvantage if they leave suddenly during a game. However, we understand that extreme circumstances can transpire that require an immediate departure.

The process for leaving the team is to post your intention to leave in the sign up thread. This dates your time of departure and explains to other users that you were not kicked off the tea but rather you chose to leave the team. No explanation needs to be posted, just simply "I wish to be removed from this team or waitlist" will suffice. You are considered to be removed from the team officially when the roster updates. Please keep this in mind, because once you have been removed from the team, another player has been added. At this point, there is no changing your mind. You are free to reapply to the team when your life circumstances allow you to, but you will be added to the end of the waitlist because the teams are first-come, first-serve.
A minor edit has been made to applications for sports in the Sports on Hogwarts.io thread.
Captain applications remain open until a suitable candidate is found. This usually means that applications will be open indefinitely until the first passing maths test has been received, then a one-week deadline will be announced.
The practice of closing and then reopening applications when we discover a test did not meet the minimum standard delays replacement moderators from joining the team.

An amendment has been made to Player Responsibilities in the Sports on Hogwarts.io thread.
Action submission is also an important responsibility. Captains are responsible for submitting their team's actions in broom racing and quidditch by the deadline (though players can and should be on top of reminding their captains if they see a disconnect), and in duelling the two to three player sub teams are responsible for submitting their actions by the deadline. Failure to submit a strategy on time means your team loses their actions for the round. In addition, all members are expected to post on time. This is down to the hour and minute from the time the moderation post is up. We do not offer extensions for any reason except for the site being down. This does mean that late posts (even with good reason or only a few minutes or hours late) would be counted as a missed post. Captains do not have the authority to grant extensions.
In addendum, for the sake of link-backs, we have added the following phrase to our sport threads: Please refer to the Sports in Hogwarts.io thread for an overview on playing a sport..

NPC Updates and Edits

Summer games will only consist of NPC schools as per this announcement. This is being done for a number of reasons, the primary ones being the limitation this places on players (only be able to change sports annually, not being able to have the same sport on their PC and their NPC) as well as the work burden this places on the moderation staff (the short period of time between the spring match and the summer game coupled with the need for any stat earnings has made time a valuable commodity).

Hogwarts will continue to have spot games throughout the school year, but the summer games are for the NPCs to shine.

We are no longer going to have Summer Games involving Hogwarts.

An edit has been made to the Sports on Hogwarts.io thread:

Was:
A user can only be in one sport during a school year. In this case, we consider the school year to be September through August, because some sport games may happen over the summer. Although you can resign from a sport after a game, you won't be able to join or waitlist for any other sport until the next September. So, when you join a sport for the first time during a school year, please be sure about your choice because you cannot change mid-year.
Now:
A user can only be in one sport at a time. A player can leave a sport and once they are removed from the roster they can sign up for another sport (not before) where they will be added to the end of the waitlist. A player can be waitlisted for more than once sport, but once a player joins a sport, they are automatically removed from all other waitlists. In short, you can change sports mid-year, but you need to officially leave the sport you were in.
Relevance of this change: A player previously could not change the sport they were playing on during the year and had to wait until Sept 1 to change their sport. Now they can change their sport at ay time. They just need to leave their previous sport and be removed from the roster.

In NPC Rules under FAQ, the following edit was made:

Was:
Can I place my iNPC into a sport like racing, quidditch or dueling?
Yes you can. You can only be in one sport and it cannot be the same as the one your player character plays. So if your player character plays quidditch, then your iNPC can broom race or duel. Sept. 1 we open up clubs. If the PC drops their sport during the year, the iNPC cannot join that sport until next year even if the PC is not currently partaking.
When will I be able to make an iNPC or update my iNPC?
This only happens a couple times a year -- this being usually the summer time (July) to update their stats. An announcement will always be made. Again at the start of the school year (September) to pick their sport (Broom Racing, Quidditch and Dueling) and prepare for the October Ball. Finally, in the spring (April) there will be another opportunity in time for the Blossom Ball. These are not strict dates but they are rough approximations of when and what to expect.

Relevance of this change: Previously player characters and NPCs could not play in the same sport due to fears of conflicts of interest. This is no longer a concern due to summer sport game changes (see below).

Change made to the NPC Application:

Is your character a Broom Racer? This applies if you are any of the four schools. Players with an already created NPC from can state that their iNPC is a broom racer. You are whatever you choose for the year, the year ends Sept. 1. Your sport choice (broom racing, quidditch, dueling) for your NPC cannot be the same as your PC. This is a binary YES/NO.

Edit to the Deleting/Deactivating Accounts page:

Former
On Hogwarts.io we do not generally delete accounts, we deactivate them. We do this because players do sometimes wish to go back to their former account and this leaves us with the ability to recover their account for them. We do not delete posts by users when a player leaves the community, this is to prevent gaping holes in roleplay threads a deactivated user participated in.

The exception to this is if I am notified by a user's parent or guardian that a user has created this account without their permission and the parent or guardian is requesting deletion. In that case, we do delete the account but we also ban the IP (Internet Protocol) which is basically a number identifying of a computer or another device on the Internet. It is similar to a mailing address, which identifies where postal mail comes from and where it should be delivered. IP addresses uniquely identify the source and destination of data transmitted with the Internet Protocol. [Source] We do this to prevent that user from circumventing their parent's or guardian's wishes and no longer being a part of the community.

As for what and why someone can request a deactivation:
  1. Because they have grown tired of their character. This is the result of creating a character and roleplaying them out and deciding either their story is done or you have lost your muse for that character. Please do not take your character creation lightly because we will only offer this service after 6 months time on the site. This is not intended to be an option for players to circumvent the means by which wands are acquired (they wanted a cooler wand) or the fact that they were sorted into 'the wrong House.'
As for why someone can request a hard deletion:
  1. If the user is a minor and their parent or guardian requests that their child be deleted from the site. This is accompanied by an IP ban.
  2. There is no minimum time limit on how long a player has to of been on the site before we will honor this. The staff may take a few days to respond depending on how busy administrative tasks are.
  3. Parents and guardians, please be aware that there is no way for us to undo a hard deletion and we will not know what your child's IP addresses were to unblock them from the community. The account will be lost and we would not be unblocking the IP in the future. This would be a permanent removal from the community.
There is a third option known as soft deletion for users that are completely certain that they are no longer going to be a part of this community. This is where the account is deleted but the posts remain on site. This also accompanies an IP ban because it is impossible for us to know what relationship you had with other users and the staff and a deleted user returning as an unknown can be used as a tool of community harassment. This IP ban and deletion cannot be undone, unlike a deactivation

As for why someone can request a soft deletion:
  1. Any reason. There is no minimum time that a player needs to be a part of this community. It may take a few days for the staff to respond to a soft deletion request but please remember this will accompany an IP ban. Banned users cannot find a new IP and make a new account, account deletions mean that they are not coming back.
  2. We do not have a means to undo a soft deletion. The account will be forever lost. We will not list the IP ban because we have no means of undoing the IP ban because we will not know what IPs were yours and again due to the potential that this can be used as a tool of harassment and you chose (not your parent or guardian) to have your account deleted, this will be a permanent change.
Limitation:
A deletion of the account is simply a deletion of the account. You existed. Other people know you and knew you, they may mention you from memory or mention you in posts. If is your responsibility to ask them to alter their posts or to never mention you again. This is a part of the I deleted or edited anything on my previous account - that you reached out to those you need edits from.

How is this Done?

You simply fill out the following, simple form and submit this form in this thread:
The Form

Present Character Name:
Have I Been a Member for More than 6 months: Yes/No
Am I a parent or guardian requesting hard deletion: Yes/No
I am requesting a deactivation: Yes/No
I am requesting a soft deletion: Yes/No
I intend to make a new account after deactivation: Yes/No
What is the name of your NEW account, if yes.
I have edited or deleted anything on my previous account that I consider to be private and personal information about myself: Yes/No (If the answer is No, please complete this before proceeding)
I have notified any sports or groups I am a part of that I am deactivating this account: Yes/No (If the answer is No, please complete this before proceeding)
Why am I requesting this deactivation/deletion:

Please note, if you are a parent or guardian requesting a hard deletion for your minor or a player requesting a soft deletion for your character, the user will not be able to access this site any longer. For more details regarding this please read below. A hard or a soft deletion cannot be undone.

Additional Restriction: Only the parent or guardian of a minor user or the user themselves can request any of the above. A sibling or a friend cannot make this request for you.
Once approved, you will be notified via owl and/or discord. This application will be stored in this thread to serve as a paper trail. Deactivated users will then be allowed to make a new account and begin the validation process. Your previous account will be deactivated within 72 hours or after it has been noted that you have been contacted regarding your account change, whichever is sooner.

Deactivated users can return to their previous character that was deactivated. The process is the same as it is for requesting a deactivation except you state you are looking to return to your previous character and it has been 6 months since your last change. They will need to be Re-Indexed.

Please Note: depending on when the deactivation took place, your previous character might have been held back a year, if that is the case, please state in your Re-Index.

Please note: Making a new account does not mean that your former actions will not follow you. This is not a tool to be present among friends and enemies with an imbalance of knowledge where only one of the two knows who the other is. We will not be a party to duplicitous actions, getting back at exes, former friends or stalking behaviors.

Confidentiality: There is no circumstance in which 'starting over' should require that your presence is unknown. If you are being harassed by members of this community, state your boundaries and if that fails then report them to the staff team and/or file a do not contact (DNC).

The purposeful creation of a new account without deactivating your old account will be treated as a multiaccount and this is a Bannable offense. As stated already, we will not facilitate interactions where one person knows who the other is and acts as if they are new, it is a violation of trust. When you leave/disappear, people will mourn you and worry about you. It is a cruel choice to make and not an option to make here.

Prefect Deactivation Considerations

Prefects who are actively in the role of Prefect but wish to deactivate their present account will be given the option to make a new account in the same house if they wish to continue their moderator role. So if a user is a Gryffindor and they wish to deactivate their present character, during their deactivation process they can request to maintain their staff position and be force sorted into the same house.

Prefects may not request to be force sorted into a house they were not already sorted in even if there is an opening in this house. So if a user is a Gryffindor and they wish to deactivate their present character and make a new character that is a Slytherin, they will not be able to request a force sort to ensure that they got this house.

A Prefect cannot be a member of a different house than they are a Prefect for.

A Prefect must announce their intention to stay and the request for a force sort before they deactivate.

When a user deactivates, they do not maintain their seat on a sports team (such as a first string Seeker) regardless of staff position, moderation status or captaincy.

For those that deactivate with no intention of returning, please remember you can just leave the community. You are not required to come back here and deactivate your account. It is best practice to notify your former RP partners of your intention to never return so that they are not waiting on you, can close any open threads that they have with you and get closure for their characters. It is also best practice to not ghost any responsibilities that you had such as captain, mentor, prefect, professor, newspaper, etc. Community members are relying on you and it takes a very simple "hi, I am leaving the community" said to your Head of House to get the ball rolling on seeking a replacement and managing your previous responsibilities. If you do return to the site, we do ask that you announce in your new character creation who you were so that we can update your form. This serves as a record of who users once were for the sake of transparency. Much like you would expect to know who you were talking to and you would find it creepy, unsavory or uncanny for someone to secretly know you, other members would feel the same way. Players have the right to make an informed decision regarding who they wish to (or not to) spend time with.

[New] Sport Pairings for Duelling Explained

Image

Background: The sorting of pairings for duels has been a challenge due to the divergent stats, incidental synergistic pairings and when there is a disparity a sense of 'unfairness' for whomever is given the disadvantageous pairing (since it has to go somewhere). This blame ends up being place on the organizer, I have seen some people make rude comments or even allegations of purposeful unfairness. Without a concrete, repeatable system, there is no way to prevent this. As such, the duelling team has created a system for making pairings that can be replicated so if -anyone- were to perform the pairings, they would get the same result.

System Overview: A three-step system was developed to make the annual pairings that is based on statistical totals and who a player has been paired against this past year. The goal of this is to minimize the discrepancy while making sure that the pairings have some variability.
Weaknesses: If a pairing ends up getting split, there is a chance that a player might face-off against a duo they have faced off against earlier in the year, reducing the variety that they experience. There is also no consideration of team synergy or player preference (wanting to pair with their friend).

High Level Explanation of System with Demonstration:

STEP 1 - Order the users from each house from top to bottom in terms of stats. If two players have the same stat total, the order would be done alphabetically (using first name).

Galton Lansdale [CC] (48)
Kim Sato (44)
Aries Scythe (40)
Estelle Nyx (40)
Lily Isobel McCoire (40)
Raizel Voltrouz (40)
Notice how the bottom 4 all have 40 total stat points. The order of the players is: Aries --> Estelle --> Lily --> Raizel in alphabetical order based on their first name. This is what will be used to make pairings.

STEP 2 - Make the pairings from top-to-bottom. We are presently playing 3's, meaning 3 players will be playing against 3 players from another house.

As you can see there is a shared stat total of 120. I placed Hufflepuff above Gryffindor because of alphabetical order (with player names) [Alyssea]. I have also paired from top to bottom the teams facing off against one-another.

Additional Information:
  • A house will never be paired against itself, the pairing would simply move to the next strongest.
  • We will be tracking through the year who players were paired against. A TEAM (notice I did not use the term 'player') will not be paired against the same pair of players again in the same year. Pairs do split, as players quit, gain stat points, etc. So it is possible that players will be paired against a team they have played against before (but this should be uncommon).
  • We assess from top-down because there is less variability in the more tenured players and the highest discrepancy between them, so pairing them as close as possible is why we start at the top.
For the sake of understanding this on a player-level better, I will be providing some sample activities for players.

** If I have mis-mathed something, please let me know. I did this by hand, the team has something that does this math for them and I have my 11 10 fingers.

Quidditch Fall 2023 Patch

I. Debuff Fouls: previously debuff fouls (ie cobbing, part-veela scream and part-giant break limb) effected a player the round after it was applied, with this change the debuff will take place the round applied. (This has an effect on the order of applications which are detailed later in this document.)

II. Order of Operations Change:
1. Debuff Fouls (ie cobbing, part-veela scream and part-giant break limb) - takes place at the start of the round and effects all actions performed.
2. Chasers make a grab attempt - this include quaffle-related actions and quaffle-related fouls.
3. Seeker grabs/seeks for the snitch - this would be snitch-0related activities and snitch-related fouls (ie snitchnipping and blurting).
4. Bludgers - this would be bludger-related activities such as beaters targeting a bludger AND rogue-bludger mechanics. Users may start falling from their broom at this time due to negative health and these users can only be saved by a user that has rapid reviver. In cases where multiple players are performing bludger actions during a round, in terms of moderation they will be performing this action "at the same time" (there is no need for an initiative roll here).
5. Damaging fouls (ie dhampir's fang/claw attack and a martial artist's punch/kick) - these are guaranteed actions even if they were knocked off their broom (KOB) from bludgering. we treat this as happening at the same time as bludgering. In cases where multiple players are performing damaging fouls during a round, in terms of moderation they will be performing this action "at the same time" (there is no need for an initiative roll here).
6. Fouls that only cause KOB (ie. blatching and pincering) - players are knocked off their broom (KOB) due to the effect of an action, not negative health occurs after #1-5 and an initiative roll is rolled to determine which KOB foul happens first if there is more than one KOB foul happening during the round to determine who is blatching/pincering first. If the target of a blatch is already knocked from their broom by the time a user performing a KOB foul attempts to perform their action, the user loses their action. A a user also cannot pincer/blatch if they were knocked off their broom (KOB) before this step. This means that blatching/pincering is not a guaranteed action. A penalty lap only applies if a user attempted a blatch or pincer move.
7. Saves and returns to broom - a user cannot save/return to broom if they were knocked off their broom (KOB) before this step. This means that saving is not a guaranteed action.
III. Save Mechanic Changes - this can no longer be used on someone who has fallen below 0 health, unless the person performing save has the ability Rapid Reviver. In which case, the user is brought back to 1 health being caught.

IV. Death Defiance - has been added to quidditch. If a user drops below 0 health in a round, they instead withstand all the attacks that round, surviving the round with 1hp. This only effects the user that one round.

V. Rapid Reviver - if a user has this and is on save duty, they can save someone who has negative health, bringing them back to 1hp. The rapid reviver effect cannot effect the same person twice, however the same person can be revived via a different user using the rapid reviver ability.

VI. Rogue Bludgers - have been added to the game. If at least one beater on a team takes a bludger-related action (ie bludgering or backbeating), then a bludger will not randomly target anyone on their team. However, if both beaters on one team do not take a bludger-related action, then a bludger will randomly target someone on their team.

DUELLING SYSTEM UPDATE
There are some changes in our system, some small and some bigger, that we would like to share with you. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and we will answer your questions. You can always ask questions in our FAQ thread and an available captain will be there to answer you.
A few major changes has been made, regarding the format of the duels and the pairing system. Please, acknowledge with them here and here.
Abilities Changes
Spell Spread Targeting and Auto-Failure Clarification
Spell Spread will only add one additional target (as was designed). So, in cases like Nebulus, the spread will only target 1 additional target and not 2.

Also, this has to be clarified: if the roll for auto-failure succeeds, it was intended that the whole spell will fail and not only the spread (as was designed). If you cast with Spell Spread, while having the AFC counter, and the Auto-Failure roll succeeds, the spell will not be cast at all.

Reducio
Spell Spread - Target another player with Select one additional target for the same spell, but with -2 Accuracy, +2 Wisdom DC and +1 Critical Failure range. This ability can be used as an action (with the spell and the second target provided). If the spell is successfully cast, the player has -2 Accuracy when performing the Accuracy vs Evasion rolls against both opponents. Only one Wisdom Check is performed when using the ability, but two Accuracy vs Evasion rolls are performed — once for each targeted opponent. Only one Duration Roll will be performed, when needed, when Spell Spread is successful. The ability is affected by the Auto-Fail Counter mechanics. If the Auto-Fail roll succeeds, the spell will not be cast.
Ability AFC Increase
Abilities will now have a 20% AFC step, like spells, instead of 10%.

Reducio
Auto-Fail Counter:
Some abilities and spells have Auto-Fail Counters (AFC) attached, which also can also cause an Auto-Fail roll to be performed for the spell or ability. This roll is performed separately from other Auto-Fail rolls and can be higher than 20%.
Reducio
  • The Auto-Fail Counter is an entity attached to a certain ability or a spell. This is a counter-mechanics to spamming of overpowered abilities and spells to make the duels more diverse.
  • If such an ability or a spell is used, an Auto-Fail Counter (AFC) is added.
  • If such an ability or a spell is not used, one AFC is removed.
  • If such an ability or a spell is used with an AFC on it, an Auto-Fail roll is performed.
  • For each AFC, spells and abilities have 20% chance for auto-failing an ability has 10% for auto-failing, a spell has 20% for auto-failing.
  • Each ability or spell has a separate AFC which is only influenced by the usage of this same ability or spell and not any others.
Currently affected abilities:
  • Spell Spread
Currently affected spells:
  • Protego
Races Changes
Dhampir
Reducio
  • [Year 1] Sunlight Sensitivity - They have a -1 evasion against any light-based spells or attacks. Included Spells: Verdimillious, Lumos Maxima.
  • [Year 1] Fangs, Claws - N/A
  • [Year 1] Magical Menace - For the whole duration of the duel, dhampirs will have their Accuracy bonus lowered by 1 in any Accuracy roll, and the chance to critically fail a Wisdom Check will be increased by 1.
  • [Year 3] Unsettling Aura - 10% chance to auto-fail a spell for anyone besides the player (and other dhampirs). All other duellers will have a 1d20 check before their Wisdom Check to see whether they auto-failed to cast the spell (roll 19-20). Unless they have Fearless ability or are also Dhampirs. This ability doesn't stack if multiple Dhampirs have it active. The auto-fail chance stacks additively with other auto-fail chances except for ones caused by Auto-Fail Counters. This cannot break the 20% cap on auto-fail. See Auto-Fail. This ability works only on spells in Duelling (not on other actions).
  • [Year 5] Heightened Sense of Smell - N/A
  • [Year 7] Blood Resurrection - N/A
Part-Giant
Reducio
  • [Year 1] Unskilled Caster - The chance to critically fail a Wisdom Check will be increased by 2 for all spells cast by the part-giant.

Damage
• 50
Effect
• The target is paralysed and falls down, unable to move and cast, but also cannot be attacked (IC Rules).
• Every round of duration, a Strength Check is performed to attempt breaking out of the effect.
• The DC to break out of the spell is 10 + 1 for every 5 points in the caster's Arcane Power.
• Repeated cast will reset the duration if it's higher than the remaining duration.
Duration
• 1-2 rounds (1d3, 1-2: 1, 3: 2) + 1 round for every 10 points in Arcane Power.
Nullify
• Strength Check (see above) allows breaking out of the effect before the duration is over, but the player will suffer –3 Evasion for the remaining duration.
• General Counter-Spell removes the whole effect, but the target will suffer –3 Evasion for 1 round.
• Healing Spell removes the whole effect with no penalty.
Critical Failure
• The effect is applied to the caster.
Critical Success
• The base DC to break out is 12, no duration roll — max duration applied.
Impaired Hit
• Damage halved to 25
• All stats except Stamina and Strength are halved and rounded up.
• The target suffers –3 EVA for the duration of the spell.
• The target can move and perform actions, but can also be attacked.
• Active dodging is not possible.
• Duration is not affected.
• Check to break out of the spell every round is performed passively.
• Upon breaking out, Evasion debuff is halved and rounded up.
Arcane Power Buff
All damage and healing formulas for Duelling Spells were edited with Arcane Power influence doubled. So, if a spell had 10 damage per 1 Arcane Power, it will now have 20. Please, note that only the damage and healing are changed. The Arcane Power influence on duration, or effects are unchanged.
