For the month of October players are invited to start a thread in the Prep Room [Link], a sub-forum in the Library to plan your book. This is a place for you to brainstorm and for helpful players (if they want) to give their input. There are FOUR tasks for the month of October. You will receive rewards based on which of the tasks you complete, with a bonus if you complete them all.

Rewards are as follows:

Complete task A: minimum of 300 words - 1HP
Complete task B: minimum of 600 words - 2 HP
Complete task C: minimum 500 words - 1 HP

Complete all 4 tasks (A-D): Additional 1HP + 5 chocolate frogs.

Tasks are as follows:

• Task A. Write your synopsis - What is your story about? How would you describe it or what is the general idea of it? Describe it in 300 words.
• Task B. Make your outline - What is the chronological timing of events? You can follow different structures such as Freytag’s Pyramid or The Hero’s Journey. You also don’t have to complete the whole story to get the reward. Simply achieve a minimum of 600 words.
• Task C. Create your main character - This would be your main protagonist. Tell us about them - what do they look like, where did they come from, what are their strengths and weaknesses and what are their flaws. Why are they in this story and what do you want them to gain from their adventure? Be as detailed as you can regarding this. Please provide a description of at least 500 words.
• Task D. Set your commitments or make a timetable/schedule - How often are you able to write in a week and how many words are you able to write? Giving yourself a goal or a limit can help you pace yourself as you write.
  
  To total 50,000 words in the month of November you must write:
  Daily: around 1670 words a day
  Weekly: 12,500 words a week
  
  You may also make your own timetable or schedule depending on your availability. There is no minimum word count for this task.

To help assist you with preparing for Nano, we also have some weekly writing prompts that you can take part in. These are optional but will help you understand your character more, and get into their mindset a little better. It also offers additional rewards. In the month of November, you will be encouraged to start writing your story. The goal is to write 50,000 words in thirty days. Each post in a single thread can serve as a chapter and the thread as your book. We have 6 milestones with progressive rewards for each one (this means that they stack).

Keep track of your word count totals, the moderators will not manually count out the words for you. Rewards will be given out at the beginning of the next month.

• 5000 words: 1 HP
• 10000 words: 1 galleon; 1 HP
• 20000 words: 2 galleons; 1 HP
• 30000 words: 3 galleons; 1 HP
• 40000 words: 6 galleons, 1 HP
• 50000 words: 8 galleons; 1 HP; 1 (Random) Gold Frog Card; the Nightmare Story Lantern item; if the book is finished it will also be posted as a "published" in-universe book.

Nightmare Story Lantern
A lamp that has several inserts. When lit and then spun on the walls one can watch a terrifying story unfold. A different story per insert.

Reminders:

1. It doesn’t have to be perfect on the first go! The first draft is not always the final so write and write til your little heart’s content. Checking for grammar and spelling before posting is always okay but try not to police yourself too much while you’re writing.
2. The goal is to write 50,000 words in November towards your project, not necessarily to finish the whole novel. But if you do find yourself with a whole novel at the end of this, good job!
3. If you are continuing an old novel or draft, the words already written in the past do not count to this. Please clearly state what was done previously and only claim rewards if you have met the minimum word counts for the rewards during the months. (For the four Tasks, that's October. For the 50K to Nanowrimo, it's November).
4. Prep tasks do not have to be written in order. You start with whichever is easier for you to write.

Restrictions:

1. Because this will be published IC in the universe and on-site, this cannot be a Harry Potter fanfic as it will take too much time for the moderation staff to monitor and review to make sure that the writer adheres to the canon. This cannot be an AU story of this community that uses the players here, these players belong to their owners (their writers).
2. Since the prep + story will exist on the site, it still needs to follow the site ratings in both threads. Specific information can be found about the site rating here.

To Claim Rewards:
Once complete you can post in this thread so that a moderator can give you your rewards at the end of each month.

Please post your October Prep Tasks by 1st November. Please post after reaching the first milestone and just edit your post in this thread if you complete multiple tasks in October.
