Arden Sayre | First Year | Hufflepuff
Full name: Arden A. Sayre (Middle name: Abayon)
Gender: Female
House: Hufflepuff
Year: First Year
Species: Human
Patronus: None
Wand:

Arden’s wand is 32,6 cm long, made of cherry wood with a unicorn hair core. According to Ollivander, her wand is “fairly flexible” and “gifted with healing properties”, which Arden is thrilled about. However, he’d also said that the wand was “ideal for wizards suffering from an unjustified sense of insecurity”. She has no idea what that means, but she isn’t unjust or insecure, so there’s that.
Physical Appearance:

Arden is the average height for an eleven-year-old, around 4'7, with light tan skin and a black, curly wolfcut. Her eyes are a dark turquoise/teal. She's a little skinny but fit. Her voice is soft and soothing.

Her teal blue eyes are from her biological father; that's all she knows about him, and she isn't interested in the slightest to find out more.
Mental Description:

Arden is quiet and introverted, and is often seen as a bit insolent by people who don't know her very well. She is straightforward and blunt, because she knows that outright lying to others, even with the best intentions, will never end well. She is also kind and understanding, and can hold (read: support) long conversations with her friends.

Arden is trusting (but not gullible), and she will stay loyal to her friends until they betray her, and if they do she'll never trust them again. She is hardworking; she'll do whatever's asked of her- well, if it's from someone she is willing to listen to. She is also a little cunning. If she feels something off about a person, she'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but the suspicions will never leave her mind until proven wrong.
Background/History:

Arden's life before Hogwarts was calm and enjoyable. She had a few friends at her elementary school, although she wasn't very close with any of them and mostly kept to herself. She played the piccolo for her elementary school band, and at home her mum taught her piano from the age of four. She loves doing crafts and playing video games. She is skilled in martial arts because her stepdad put her for lessons with her younger half-brothers.
Biological Family:

Arden has always lived with her biological mum, Liezel Abayon (maiden name). But her biological dad, Will Fletcher, had left while she was still too young to remember. Will was a muggle who hadn't known anything about magic, nor the fact that Liezel was a witch until about a year after Arden was born. She'd avoided the subject and soon forgot she hadn't told him about it, so the day Will walked in on her levitating one of Arden's toys to amuse the young child was a bolt from the blue.

Even though he did love Liezel, the reveal of her magical background was a shock he wasn't ready for, and it only worsened when he was informed that it was hereditary. Knowing his own family would be mortified to find out he was the father of a possible witch, he immediately broke up with Liezel and moved out of England. Arden's mum was left unmarried until a little over a year when she remarried to yet another muggle, Noah Sayre, who was a little more accepting of magic, (though not by much,) and also financially stable.

Important Note: Arden remembers nothing about this; she was only a year old and her mum never told her any of it. All she's aware of is that Noah is not her biological dad, and that she got her eyes from whoever her biological dad is.
Legal Family:

Her stepdad, Noah Sayre, is a little strange to her. It must be the muggle part of him that she's still somehow unfamiliar with, or the fact that he appears a little uncomfortable around any presence of magic, or that he hates loud noises and her piccolo is no excuse. Whatever it is, she isn't sure and she isn't interested enough to find out. She doesn't speak with him much.

However, Arden is very close with her mum (now Liezel Abayon Sayre). Whether it's because of her pureblood heritage or their biological relationship, or just simply her comforting aura, Arden is drawn much closer with her than her dad. She takes after her mum quite a bit- her black curls, light skin, and love of music. In her free time, she sometimes goes out into the garden to help her plant and keep her company.

Arden also has a strong bond with her youngest half-brother, Oliver. He has light-ish brown, curly hair and brown eyes like her mum's. The bright, excitable five-year-old is sweet and passionate, and even though they aren't completely related, she sees the small child as no less than her best friend. Oliver loves making crafts with her and also loves helping their mum in the backyard. He marvels at the slightest sights of magic. Arden believes he'll grow up to be a wonderful wizard one day.

Her relationship with her other seven-year-old half-brother, however, is another story. Hazel is loud and assertive, contradictive to the other half of her family. He takes on everything after his dad: his dark brown hair, his grey eyes, and a much more agitated temper than his father's. Just like him, Hazel hates magic with a burning passion. He thinks it's unfair that only some people get to use it; he also often compares it to players using hacks in video games. Hazel hates Arden's mum and tries to convince Oliver to take his side. (The younger child never does, though.)

Arden also has a cat (whom she unfortunately had to leave at home). His name is Milo. He's a one-year-old white ragdoll with dark brown stains around his eyes and ears, his muzzle, and three of his paws. His eyes are a brilliant cerulean. He is affectionate and quiet, and often settles in the living room. She loves to play with him, as does Oliver, and they can play for hours on end with him when they feel bored. He loves chin scratches.
First Instance of Magic:

In fourth grade, when Arden was ten, she had been practicing her piccolo in her bedroom after school. (It had been a bit warm in her room, so she'd opened her window to let the cool air in. A horrible mistake on her part.)

Her dad had bought it for her a couple of years ago, after he'd made her promise to take very good care of it so they would never have to take it to the repair shop. Which made perfect sense to her, considering the instrument itself had cost over 950€. 950€!

Meanwhile, her eldest younger half-brother, Hazel, had arrived back home a while after her. Even though they go to the same school, he'd been late because he missed the bus, and the school had to call her parents over so they could drive him back. He was upset, and then to his parents chiding he became mad.

By the time he and his parents had finally returned home, he was furious. After having a noisy fit in the living room, he stormed into Arden's room and started shouting at her. When she grew annoyed and (unintelligently) decided to play louder over his screaming, he grabbed her piccolo and hurled it out of her bedroom window from the second floor.

Horrified and a little panic-stricken, knowing the fragile instrument could've been damaged or worse, completely destroyed, she had bolted downstairs immediately to the backyard where it had fallen, and her mum was already there gardening and had picked it up. Arden was even more shocked to see the piccolo fully intact.

At first, as she calmed down her frightened nerves, Arden had thought it to be a lucky drop. It had landed in the grass, so maybe that had broken its fall. Then she tried to think more sensibly and pondered the fact that it would've at least been a little scratched up.

But as her mum handed it back over to her, she told Arden that she had seen it float; it just lost all its momentum right before it landed on the ground as if it was set down carefully. Her eyes were glowing as she placed the piccolo into Arden's hands. The ten-year-old blinked in confusion when her mum then hugged her and then walked back to her plants, then settled for the thought that her mum must've caught it with a spell so her piccolo wouldn't be damaged.

Sure, her mum's wand had been in the living room lying on the coffee table, but it could've been wandless magic, right? Arden knew she surely couldn't have done it herself.

Reaction Assumption Tips
(Arden Sayre)
Note: Please only use this for snippets in your posts while interacting with Arden. The point of this so that your posts don’t make Arden look statue and standstill while your character is ranting or doing some action. If the reaction Arden has will greatly impact the reaction of your character’s, please don’t assume her reaction!
Actions and Movement
Arden doesn’t flinch at sudden movements unless it’s directed at her and she knows that it is (in which case do NOT assume anything, just end your post there so Arden can manually respond). If it catches her off guard, as in she wasn’t aware it was going to happen (ex. a book was unexpectedly thrown at another student but they missed and it almost hit her), she may freeze up. Arden is very good at dodging flying/moving objects, but not that great at catching them.
Sounds and Speech
Arden may tense at extremely loud, sudden noises (like an explosion), but shouting and loud instruments don’t faze her. If the noise is soft (like a shattering glass), she might glance towards it for a moment, looking either confused or concerned, but will make no comment and will almost immediately resume whatever she’s doing.

If your character is speaking directly towarts her, do not infer her vocal responses. However, if you are ranting to her (speaking or complaining about something/someone to her and not expecting a reply), Arden can be sympathetic and may nod from time to time, or hum to let them know she’s listening.
Do not use use these notes if the action your character made is directed TOWARDS HER and is a MAIN PART of your post. Just wait for Arden to reply manually.

2) There’s nobody there to stab it, either.
