You are teleported to the heart of a maze. It is obvious that you as well as your peers have been magically teleported to this space. The air here is full of colors, illusionary butterflies flit past you. You see one fly right through a classmate and then flutter off. The instructions here were simple, find a partner and traverse this maze but beware, errant adventures turn out to be the fool. Yes, it would seem that this is a place for both tricks as well as treats. This year’s maze was fairytale themed, if one would have read the muggle-books, they would find the things here rather... familiar as if they were teleported right into the book itself, a fairytale come true for some. Those that had not read the books would simply find this a normal maze.

As you look around you notice that there are 4 paths that you can take. One to the North, one to the South, one to the East and One to the West. Moss covered flagstones mark the paths of this natural maze. Which way will you pick.

Options:
A.) Travel North
B.) Travel South
C.) Travel East
D.) Travel West

The usual 200+ word count rule has been reduced to 60+ words. You and your teammate(s) must stick together. If you are unable to make a decision which path to take by the end of this week, either the majority decision wins or a roll will be done to determine your path.

Action success, spells and physical attacks for example, are determined by a d20 roll accompanied with your stats. Results above 15 will be considered successful while anything less is not. Quote your actions and stats in your posts for easier reference.

"Ugh..." teleportation? Not River's thing at all, it made her feel slightly queezy. All these new consepts and perspectives, and of course magic. She almost didn't believe in it all at first. And now, more and more strange and unknown things just popped up here and there. Her head slightly ached as she thought about it, but the headache quickly subsided as she looked at the surroundings they were placed in.
Woah, it's so beautiful! She thought, and let out a sigh, the weird feeling after the teleportation seemed to lift slightly from her body. It reminds me of a book I read, she thouhgt, and she tried very hard to remember the name of the book, but she seemed to have lost that ability, as her mind simply wanted to follow the butterflies. To follow the swirling colours shimmering in the air, and the smell of a green garden in the summer sun made her feel a little at home, it made her feel quite safe.
River smiled and let out a slight laugh, it was wonderful wasn't it? She looked eagerly around, following butterflies and their flutering in patterns around each other.
River's mind abruptly sapped back to reality, as she noticed, They're not real are they? Of course they weren't, they were a simple illusion. If I manage to get thrown off by a simple illusion of butterflies, how will I do in a maze like this? She thought, and started to doubt herself a little.
"Alice In Wonderland!", River blurted out of nowhere. "Uhm, it's a book I've read", she quickly explained, looking around at Vince and Isaac.
She had almost forgotten about them. She had almost forgotten about the fact that they were in an actual maze. It was nice though, seeing that she wasn't alone in there. She walked up to them, eyebrows slightly furrowed in a focused sort of way.
"Alright, let's try not gettig distracted right now", she said, determined to at least get through the first part of this maze.
"So, would you guys say we go north, south east or west?", River asked, curious to see where the others felt like they should go. She couldn't explain why, but she did not like the idea of heading north. There was just something making her feel like that direction was just wrong... Still, she didn't know which of her thoughts she could trust at this point. Perhaps it was just the maze trying to trick her?

There was a flash of blinding light and colors as bright as the rainbow swirled around Isaac, robbing him of sight. Dizziness engulfed him as he felt as if he were hurtling through time and space itself, like a traveler through a wormhole, piercing through space. Unceremoniously, he crumpled to the ground the second the teleportation ended and he reached the center of the maze.

That was the worst...thing ever. Couldn't we have just taken a carriage instead?

Lying against the ground to catch his breath, he noticed that the grass was surprisingly soft. Cracking open a grey eye, he could see that the air was swirling with the same psychedelic colors as before, shifting and morphing like an ever-changing painting. Through his illness, he managed to stumble back onto his feet. Now that he could see his surroundings better, the maze truly did look like the picture of insanity. He thought he could see something like trees, but they shifted as he took a step closer, and the grass moved beneath his feet although there was no wind.

Curiously, Isaac held his hand up to touch a bright blue butterfly flitting past. Like water, it slid straight through his fingers and flew into the beyond, without even noticing that it had been tapped.

Shaking his head in confusion, he suddenly realized that he was here with a team. Slight relief washed through him. At least we can figure this stuff out together. He heard River exclaim something from beside him, something about a book. Her sunset red hair seemed to sway with the maze's invisible wind, and it almost made him dizzy all over again.

Wait a minute, Alice and Wonderland! He remembered that old movie pretty well. Beth always loved that movie. She'd drag me to watch it whenever it was on the telly.

Isaac tried to scour his mind for what he could remember about it. Alice had fallen asleep in a field, and then had a mad dream in which she had woken up in a wonderland. More like a prison... he thought ruefully, recalling the Queen of Hearts' murderous rage.

"I think we should go south." Isaac announced. He peered around each of the paths, turning over moss-covered rocks with his shoe. South wasn't as clear cut as north, and made the least sense. If this maze was truly like Alice's dream, then it might just be the right direction.

[font=times new roman]As soon as Vince appeared in the maze she ran over to a corner and hurled. Whipping the spit from her mouth, she turned slowly turned around; her suspicions were correct, two other students stood near by. She recognized both of them, one as River, a fellow Ravenclaw, and the other as Isaac, a Gryffindor, one that she was more wary of than she usually was of people.

She stood there for a moment, wishing she could take the bad taste out of her mouth, but also taking time to study where they were. The air was colored strangely, psychedelic swirls of light surrounding them in a mystical way. It was little pleasant but also daunting, for she'd never seen anything like it before. Everyone else seemed to be okay with it, so she lowered down her guard. It was just a maze after all, they shouldn't expect too much...or should they?

While River was enchanted by the illusion of butterflies, Isaac went looking around at the four paths. Vince loved mazes, but she hadn't solved one in while. She knew the number one tip everyone always said to use, always goes left, because you would always find the way out, though it could take some time to find the end. But she was sure that it was different for magic mazes, especially when illusions and other things were in play.

As always when she was doing something thought-provoking Vince began taking in all the knowns and unknowns. Right as she took a step forward River blurted out, “ Alice in Wonderland! ”

She stood there for a moment, eye narrowed slightly, then her heart sank. Oh, no, she thought. Out of all the books she had never read, the maze had to be this one. Her face red, Vince turned around quickly so it wouldn't be too noticable that something was wrong. She brushed hair out of her face and went on to look for any clues they might need later on while the others discussed their next move.

Of course she'd watched the cartoon, but it was a long while ago, around when she was five or six, and she had never really gotten into, with its talking caterpillars and Queen of Hearts.

What she did know is that most of everything wasn't what it seemed. The unexpected happened and thinking too hard could lead to problems, the simplest of answers were usually right, even if they seemed wrong. Vince remembered that she did like that part of the movie, the silly part.

Going over to the other two, she said, in a soft voice, “ South. ” She had her hand over her mouth to mask the foul smell of vomit, though she doubted they cared. Sometimes the way that looked better wasn't always the best, especially in this case. She waited for River's answer.

River had finally collected her thoughts a little from the whole trip to the maze, and found her way back to reality from the mesmerizing atmosphere.
This seems like it’s going to be a nice group to work in she thought to herself, as she looked over at the two other students. She had met both, Vince and Isaac, but she didn’t know either too well.
She looked quickly over all their options, four ways they could go. «Well I definitely think we need to stick together» she mumbled, consentrating hard on the situation.

She went over to the west path, then to the north, so east, and finally south. They did all seem quite similar.
River looked back at Vince and Isaac, they had both suggested they should go south, and River agreed with this.
«Okay, South it is» she said finally, smiling up at the others. She turned around to face the path leading south, and hesitated for a moment, befor she started walking.
The group travels South

[quote]You have until 26th April to get your posts in as well as decide on your route to take if you have not done so already. At least 2 players are required for the maze to continue. If an additional layer has not posted by the 26th, the maze with continue without that player. Should only one or no player(s) post by then, the group will be eliminated and therefore will not be able to continue.

You and your partner(s) decide to go South. The trail curves to the right slightly before turning abruptly to your left. It continues down and after a minute or two, the relatively narrow path finally leads to a more open space. The cooling air is suddenly replaced by warmth as if you had stepped from a typical spring day into the sahara desert. The sudden scorching rays of the sun hits you, how was it summer so soon?

However, should you and your partner(s) attempt to proceed, you’d find your feet stuck to the ground, sinking actually. You would notice that the sand had somehow turned into quicksand. Your efforts in freeing yourself would be futile. The scorching sand is now at you calves. Then you would see small movements in the sand, a few seconds later hundreds of tiny black bugs - spiders - would crawl out from the earth and as soon as they emerged from the sand, would crawl towards you and your partner(s) perhaps... like the butterflies, they were just illusions? Possibly, possibly not.

The dizzying change from the warm spring glade to the scorching heat of the desert made Isaac's head spin. How had they reached the desert all of a sudden? Shielding his eyes from the harsh glare of the sun off the dunes, he scanned their surroundings. All around, there was nothing but a wasteland of golden sand, sloughing off with the steady wind, and a thin blue horizon.

Absent-mindedly, he began to walk forwards when he suddenly felt something tugging on his leg. Looking down at his feet, he realized that he was already submerged in sand up to his ankles. The dusty ground hungrily sucked at his feet, and the rough sand scraped against his legs, rising up to his knees. Immediately, he stilled, realizing a chilling truth.

I'm in quicksand. Real live quicksand..what if we sink to the bottom?

He remembered in all of those old adventure novels, the hero would grab a rope thrown by their best friend, escaping death and making their way free. But this was no story. There was no vine or rope to help them, not when they were in the middle of a barren desert.

His heart pounding, Isaac pulled his heavy robe over his head and threw it into the sand, sticking his wand into the pocket of his uniform. Taking deep breaths in an effort to calm himself, he tried to think. But everything grew even worse. A flash of black drew his eyes to the sand again, and to his horror, thousands of tiny spiders crawled towards the group.

Looking to Vince and River, he said in a strained voice, "Nobody make any sudden moves."If we do, he thought with a shudder, all of us will end up drowning here, and the spiders will eat us.

[quote][font=times new roman]As they followed the path Vince began to wonder what exactly was the point of this maze. What would they meet at the end, something symbolic? Or would it be something simple, like a trophy, pendant, or something less memorable. As she thought, and studied the maze, she began to notice that she was beginning to sweat more than usual; it was getting hot.

Wiping her forehead, Vince glanced at her other teammates, but then something was wrong. We're they getting shorter? Frowning she looked down and in surprise she noticed that their feet were sinking into the ground.

Quicksand, she thought. It seemed that they were in a desert like climate. Recalling what she knew about quicksand, suddenly sat straight down onto the sand, managing to stick her legs straight out. Then thinking better of it, she slowly got up and crawled further ahead, meaning to do the same position closer to the edge, when she noticed movement around her.

Spiders.

Vince froze. Then she looked at River. Sadly she had no idea what these spiders were, if they were poisonous or not, nor if they were illusionary. And they were getting too close for comfort with all of this uncertainty. Isaac warned them not to move, but that would began to be difficult with these strange spiders. She looked at the others in concern.

River started walking along the others. The ground wasn’t the most steady, so her legs wobbled ungraciously here and there. Thank god I wore some good walking shoes, she thought relieved to herself as she looked down at her feet.

«What in the?», River said suddenly. «Did the sun just explode?», she had just realized that the temperature must have risen. And a lot too. River really hoped she’d at least make it out of here without a terrible sunburn, as her pale skin got burnt so very easily.

They seemed to be approaching a clearing ahead. River kept her gaze at it, and right then, she stumbled and fell. Ugh!..Really?, she thought, as she looked down to her shoes. They had been untied. She sat up slowly, and reached to tie her laces. This time in a double knot, to make sure they wouldn’t get loose again.
She stood up, and brushed some dirt off her clothes, and looked up to the others. They were quite a bit ahead of her now, they had probably not noticed she fell. «Wait a minute!», she called after them, as she sped up to a jog, trying to catch up.

She had almost reached them, but she skidded to a sudden halt. Something seemed wrong... had they shrunk? River could swear they looked shorter. She turned her head down, only to see that they had sunken through the ground. Quicksand? Her eyes widened, as she looked at the other two.
River had read of what to do in a case of sinking in quicksand. You lay, or sit, down to distribute you weight, and let your legs float up to the surface... Perhaps they knew? Vince, at least, seemed to know what to do, as she didn’t struggle too badly. Isaac on the other hand...
«Just don’t freak. Real quicksand is nothing like the movies, humans are actually unable to sink fully under, as we’re not dense enough compared to the sand». She pulled her robes off, to get rid of excess weight, and laid her back down on the sand to slowly pull her legs out. She froze as she felt something crawling on her forehead. She quickly swatted at whatever it was, is it gone? she sat up slightly, only to see what it was. «Oh, spiders, how great!», she said, with a very sarcastic tone in her voice. River had never been afraid of spiders and bugs, but for all she knew, these could be dangerous... or maybe not? «Remeber, we’re at Hogwarts, they wouldn’t put us in any real danger, and who kows? Maybe they’re just an illusion, just like the butterflies were?», she reminded the others.
