This thread contains all the spells available on our site. In order to use spells, you must be registered on our official index, and you must have the relevant spell in your character's trunk (acquired through abilities, homework or graduation). More detail on that is here: viewtopic.php?f=255&t=7087#learningspells

Below is a list of all of our site spells organized by the year they are taught, then by the class they are taught in. You can ctrl+f (cmd+f) to find specific spells or key words. Each spell has a name, incantation, acquirement location, and a description associated with them.

Any spells marked red and starred (*) have been claimed and put onto a syllabus for the class, but the lesson or spell has not been added yet, and therefore cannot be added to trunks yet. The spell descriptions for these might not be fully up-to-date and may adapt when the relevant lesson gets published.

Please be aware that this list is always subject to change. Such changes might include minor edits to fix spelling mistakes or unclear wording, or the addition/removal of a spell based on the community's needs.

Description: When cast on a person or legged object, it causes them to dance crazily.
Name: Mending Charm

Description: A spell that fixes things that have been broken. This spell will not work on objects that have more complex and powerful magic. It is not a healing spell; using reparo on a living creature who has an open wound would cause more damage or scarring to the injured party.

Description: A spell used to make objects levitate or fly. Cannot be used on humans, but it can be used on their clothes.
Name: Wand-Lighting Charm

Description: Causes your wand to emit a white light from its tip. This spell requires concentration. If lost, the light will go out. Too much concentration risks setting your wand on fire. If a red light emits from your wand instead of the bright white you should have, you should cast the Wand-Extinguishing Charm (Nox) immediately. It can be used to ward off ghosts and other spectral creatures such as Gytrashes.

Description: Causes red sparks to shoot from your wand. This is a charm that should be used if you are in immediate danger. Won't do any noteworthy damage to whatever you hit with them, but can be used to temporarily blind an opponent.

Description: Produces a smokescreen from the wand casting it. It is a defensive spell primarily intended to hide the caster and to prevent their opponent from accurately aiming spells. If cast simultaneously by more than a handful of people, the sheer amount of smoke could make it hard for anyone caught in it to breathe.

Description: Makes the target launch high into the air.

Description: Causes an object to fall or move downwards.

Description: Conjures a bandage that wraps around the object or limb that the witch or wizard is pointing their wand at. The bandages also ease the pain of the victim it is used on. It also splints any broken bones.
Name: Wind Jinx

Description: Allows you to conjure a strong spiralling jet of wind from your wand. Can be used to push objects and people away from the caster. You could even trap someone in the wind to prevent them from escaping. However, you must always be careful about the concentration you put forth toward this spell for you can wound someone when you only meant to move them away from you.

Description: A brighter version of the Wand-Lighting Charm. Lumos Duo will not only ward off Ghosts and Gytrashes, but it will also cause Hinkypunks to become solid and cause Chizpurfles to move toward the light as they are attracted to the magic emitted.

Description: You could temporarily blind someone from this light. You have the option of flicking your wand in a direction and the light will automatically leave your wand to the designated area you aimed at. It will then keep that area lit for several minutes.

Description: Summons an object to the caster. Must visualize exactly what you are trying to summon to you. Even if the target is far away and out of sight, if you can really visualize it, the spell will bring it to you. But the farther away, the harder that might be. Cannot be used on living beings, only on inanimate objects.

Description: A charm that sends the target away from the caster or to a specific location. Can be used on inanimate objects and living beings.

Description: A charm that makes your target break out in song. While you can use it on inanimate targets, the spell doesn’t quite work as intended and non-human targets might not really be able to sing the lyrics or might not know them. So the spell is definitely intended to be used on humans.

A dwelling whose location had been protected by this spell was then invisible, intangible, unplottable, and soundproof.
Name: Portkey Spell

Description: Used to turn an ordinary object into a Portkey. Portkeys work one time as one way travel, or one time as travel with a return. They can be touch-activated (transport when touched) or time-activated (transport whoever is touching it at the designated time - if no one is touching it, transports on its own). The target of this spell will glow bright blue when enchanted and when it activates, but after a few seconds, it will return to its normal color. A portkey requires the same wizard to enchant an item in both locations, so they have to be physically present to place the items. The process is:
  1. Be at the destination of the portkey, enchant the object
  2. Go to the place it will be used from, enchant the object again
  3. Portkey is ready to be used. Will transport you to the destination (and back if enchanted that way) then the spell expires.

Description: A charm that assisted the caster in cheating on written papers, tests and exams. If cast on one's parchment or quill, the correct answers will be written in the user's handwriting and the user's writing pattern. This can only be used in an academic or workplace setting with factual answers - it cannot be used to try to read other people (as in, you cannot use it to ask "Does this person like me?" and have a factual answer appear). Note: exams at Hogwarts are taken with anti-cheating quills which this spell will not work on, so this spell cannot be used to claim cheating on school exams like OWLs and NEWTs. It is a roleplay tool that could be used for cheating on IC homework etc.

It is not affected by anti-apparition charms and can be cast in locations like Hogwarts that are protected against apparition.

Description: Like normal mutations, this spell is unpredictable and dangerous to cast as the effects will deform the target in various ways that aren't always expected. Casting this spell will randomly cause one of these 3 effects to occur:
1) Medusa appearance: The target grows reptilian like hair, with their facial skin becoming displeasing to those around them. This does not grant Medusa powers (no stone turning, no live snakes), just causes an unpleasant appearance.
2) Skull Cage: The spell causes bone to protrude from the targets face and form around their head, encasing their heads inside a large skull shape mask.
3) Aging Head: The targets head, skull, and face revert to their original appearance when they were an infant. Their head and face will slowly age to the appropriate age they should be going through all stages of their previous appearances over the course of an hour or so.

Description: A curse that could trap individuals in magical portraits. The longer the individual stayed inside the portrait, the more the person would continue to gradually lose touch with reality outside the frame, slowly driving the victim to insanity. The trapped user cannot cast magic to release oneself, but they can speak and call for help. A simple counterspell from someone on the outside (or breaking the portrait) will release them. This spell grows weaker over time and the trapped person will be released automatically after a few days.

Description: A protective enchantment used to shield a certain area or dwelling for an extended period of time. It was a variation of the Shield Charm, and was used to stop and repel any intruder and/or spell from the protected area, except the most powerful curses including the Unforgivable Curses.

Description: A spell that can be cast on a contract, where if a signer breaks the contract then boils erupt on the signer's face and make it clear who broke it, spelling out "Traitor" or "Sneak." Unless the caster themselves cast a counterspell finite on the victim, these boils would remain for at least a year, slowly fading but leaving faint scars as a warning about the cost of betrayal.

Description: Apparition is a wizarding transportation. It is essentially the magical action of travelling by having the user focus on a desired location in their mind. After the user is properly focused they then disappear from the current location and instantly reappear at the desired location. In short, Apparition is a form of teleportation. It is by far the fastest way to get to a desired destination, but is tricky to pull off correctly and disastrous if botched.
Name: Animagus

Description: Allows a user to transform into a single animal of their choice. This animal will have at least one physical characteristic of the human animagus (such as a missing toe for instance, a noticeable birthmark, etc). The IC Process: A witch or wizard must keep a single mandrake leaf in their mouth for an entire month (from full moon to full moon). If the leaf is removed or swallowed, the witch or wizard will have to start over again. At the next visible full moon (if the night happens to be cloudy one, they will have to start over) the wizard must spit the leaf in a phial within range of the moon's pure rays. To the moon-struck phial, the wizard or witch must add one of their own hairs, a silver teaspoon of dew that has not seen sunlight or been touched by human feet for seven days, and the chrysalis of a Death's-head Hawk Moth. The mixture must be put in a quiet, dark place and cannot be in any way disturbed. The next thing that must happen is for the wizard to wait for an electrical storm, whenever that might be. During this waiting period the wizard must, at sunrise and sundown without fail, chant the incantation "Amato Animo Animato Animagus" with the tip of their wand placed over the heart. When, at last, there is a lightning storm, the wizard ought to move immediately to a large and secure place, recite the incantation one final time, and then drink the potion.

Description: One of the forbidden spells, also known as "the torturing spell", this spell causes an indescribable agony to be suffered by the target. While this spell cannot kill, it can cause extreme mental distress. While in use, this spell is cast at -3 accuracy and while it is in effect neither the caster or the victim can move. The wand must remain steady and aimed at the target. This bind can eventually be broken if the target takes external damage or successfully breaks free. When bound the opponent uses their actions to attempt to break free of this spell. It is a stacking 10% chance per action, so first attempt is 10% chance at freedom, the second attempt would be a 20% chance and so on.

Description: One of the forbidden spells, also known as "the controlling spell." With this spell the caster is able to temporarily control another person. This spell cannot be used to force someone to harm themselves but it can be used to force them to harm another person, including someone that they care deeply about. In roleplay this spell can be used for whatever you and another player agree to out of character. This cannot be used to take away someone else's enjoyment of their character and you will lose the right to be a part of the community if you use it in this manner or bully someone into submitting to your will out of character. In a moderated situation, however this can be used to tell a user to perform simple tasks such as "drop your wand" or "attack your ally with this spell" or "stand still". It cannot be used to tell someone to cast a spell that they do not know, or to cast a spell on themselves. This spell is cast at -3 accuracy and requires a verbal command to be given, so if this is being used in a formal duel this would be rather obvious to onlookers. However once this spell has taken hold, it cannot be removed until the user either takes damage or breaks free. It is a stacking 10% chance per action, so first attempt is 10% chance at freedom, the second attempt would be a 20% chance and so on.

Description: With this spell the caster is able to temporarily read another person's mind. In roleplay, this spell can be used to find out whatever you and another player agree to out of character. Upon successful casting of this spell, your character will know all of the internal dialogue in posts following the successful casting until the spell ends, including emotions, thoughts and memories that cross the character's mind. Mechanically, this means the person you are casting on has control over what you will find out by writing it in their next posts. To cast this spell wandlessly, your character needs to make eye contact with their target. This spell is limited in that it requires concentration to continue to work, so if you are attacked during this or break eye contact, the spell will break.
