WHAT DOES THE STAFF TEAM DO?
The staff team for Hogwarts.io has many roles that helps the site function in the most efficient way as possible. The team is extensive and is not only composed of a few people, it is made of a lot of different people with different backgrounds. We operate both on the site and on external platforms such as the official Hogwarts.io Discord Server. However the team is always changing and we are always adding, removing, and moving staff members around.

The site is still in the works and is unfinished, so we are here to ensure that rules and important information is out in place for the future. We also work on the systems for the student such as the Quidditch, Dueling, and Adventure system. There is always something that needs to be tweaked in these systems too, so many of the things the staff works on is a work in progress. Moderation is done by the whole team, this is to protect our younger users and to maintain a defined set of standards for the community as a whole.

Please send all applications to two admins (the admin team consists of the four Heads of House, the Deputy and the Headmaster).

This is the "Game Master" account. Please do not owl this account, unless specified. This account is not moderated actively and therefore, you may not receive a response.

Contact a Head of House or the Headmaster if you need anything.

APPLICATION
There are various staff positions that can become available on Hogwarts.io, depending on if there is a need for them to be filled or not. If there is no vacancy in any of the positions below, please wait for such an opening to appear. They will be posted in this thread so "subscribe" to be notified.

PREFECTS
A prefect is one of the core roles for our site. These students moderate the boards to maintain the site, ensuring that all posts adhere to the rules.  Depending on the house, there are different areas that the prefects are responsible for moderating. They are also the first staff users face when an issue occurs and the link between students/staff. Prefects also can host events for the students. A prefect answers directly to their Head of House for any issues regarding moderation duties or house duties. This is a permanent role.

PROFESSORS
Professors at Hogwarts are mainly responsible for teaching classes. This means on the site they write lessons, grade the homework, and answers questions from students about their subject. A Professor is expected to keep ungraded homework no older than 10 days. Beyond that, another Professor will be asked to step in to grade. This may fall under activity standards for the site as well if an absence was not announced ahead of time. Beyond classes, Professors also have some moderation powers. Although they have no official areas to moderate, it is acceptable for them to control their classroom’s board. Professors are often seen leading events as well. Professors can propose events or may be asked to lead a portion of a larger event. Proposing events should go to the Heads of Houses, Deputy Headmaster, Headmaster, or all of the above. This role requires a new character to become an adult and is separate from their student account. This is also a permanent role.

ASSISTANTS
The Assistants Team will sit alongside the Prefect and Professor teams to do exactly what the title suggests - assist. They help with the workload of of the staff team in various ways. This role is equal to Professors and Prefects in rank and simply plays another role. Therefore they answer to Admin Team [Head of Houses and Headmaster].

This role is a new role and subject to change. However, currently:
--- Shared responsibility for grading two subjects
They will share the responsibility with the professor of the subject. One subject will be a 'heavy' workload, whilst the other will be lighter. This is to help allow the professors to focus on creating new lessons.
--- Working in a specific staff team
Assistants will have to work in a specific staff team as part of their role. You can choose to help with others, of course, but one of them will be included in the job role. These staff teams vary per role. However, as an example, teams are things like "validation", "index", "errands", "lore", etc.
--- Moderate a couple of boards OOC
Every board on the site is moderated by a member of staff. As part of your role, you will be assigned a few boards that must be checked every two weeks, at most. This is OOC moderation for things like closing finished threads, making sure the word count is met, making sure people are staying within the PG-13 rating and so on.
--- You will also be responsible for a couple of 'ad-hoc' tasks.
The specific tasks depend on your role but are things like, running a specific event.

Head Boy and Head Girl (not currently being used)
These two roles are permanent positions among the staff here at Hogwarts. Head Boy and Head Girl manage, moderate, and teach prefects. As such, someone who holds this role should have experience as a prefect in order to best perform their duties. These roles are also prefects with assigned areas to moderate, but have additional duties as mentioned above. This is both an IC and an OOC role so you will be seen as a special student ICly as well. Prefects answer to this role before going to HoH or higher. The Head Girl or Head Boy decide if a situation needs to be escalated beyond themselves. Their experience means they may have a better solution to assist their prefects when they have an issue. Head Boy and Head Girl answer to the Head of House team. Escalations should first go to a Head of House for them to determine next steps. Heads of Houses will also select Head Girl and Head Boy based on experience, maturity, and activity on the site. This role can be considered higher or equal to professors out of character, but in character, they must show the same respect that a normal student would show. Head Boy and Girl answer to the Heads of House, and work along side the professors.

This is the "Game Master" account. Please do not owl this account, unless specified. This account is not moderated actively and therefore, you may not receive a response.

WANTED: Professor of Runes

I am sad to announce that Amalia Rolfö, our Professor of Runes played by @Avery McCall, is stepping down because they have gotten too busy with their real life to continue with this role. We thank them for their hard work.

That said, we are seeking interested applicants to apply for the role of Professor of Runes. The core facet of this role is the re-writing and grading of Rune lessons, and this will be the main focus of our review of your applications. You will also be tasked with other moderation duties. As professor, you can also roleplay and interface in the role, but this is secondary to the updating and personalizing of lessons and the grading of assignments. In addition to this, you are able to join various staff teams (such as validation or lore) and assist in those areas.

We will be accepting applications for one week - until the 10th of May.

What we are looking for:
  • Active, engaged individuals.
  • Decent writing skills because you will be developing and editing lessons so they need to be clear, concise and entertaining. [English does not need to be your first language but you need to be proficient.]
  • Good relationship with the staff and user base.
What can be done to improve your application:

We are mostly interested in what you can bring to the team and to the subject of Divination, not what sort of character you plan on developing. The more details you give, the better. You are not limited to the format of the application; you can skip questions if you feel that it is appropriate, and you can always add more.

PROFESSOR APPLICATION
Below application to be sent to at least two admins. (The admin group is the four Heads of House, the Deputy Hjørdis Jensen, and Headmaster Solomon Lear.)
