Alex was born in London, England, to a young Russian woman named Angela Markov. His mother was in the city due to her own mother, Olga, being in the hospital due to an emergency surgery due to her appendix rupturing. Alex was born while his grandmother was recovering from her appendectomy. The three stayed in London for three months, until Alex, Angela, and Olga were all cleared for long-term travel, then they flew back to Moscow. Alex was raised there for the next eight years. The family lived in an apartment by the Metro station, which Angela would use every morning on her way to work at the secondary school. Olga and Alex would stay in the apartment, Alex being too young for school and Olga too frail for the city. One day, Olga and Alex were left in the apartment. The elderly woman had a stroke while Alex was sitting in her lap, reading to her in English.
In October of 2018, Angela and Alex moved to London after Olga passed away. This severely disrupted his education, the limited English pronunciation he knew not being helpful in Year 4, where spelling tests and class-readings tanked his grade. He studied furiously, doing his best to catch up. He came home with averages of 68% in English, 98% in Maths, and 70% in Science. His social life never flourished, as he did his best to constantly study and not fall behind in school. After his first magic instance, which was caused by pure anger, and when he was finally becoming close to being fluent in English, a professor from a school called 'Hogwarts' showed up outside the door of his apartment with a letter.
