From all the extra time Henry was spending in the charms classroom it was no wonder that was becoming his favorite class as the last day of September he found himself on the path to the charms classroom but not to catch up on homework or practice a second year charm, he was headed there to learn a third year charm; specially Ventus which is the wind charm. Henry has always admired how many ususes the charm can have, from everyday use like drying something or someone off to dueling uses which was definitely in Henry's opinion way cooler but the reason why he's learning the charm is because Henry found himself in a situation with an girl who fell into the black lake and not knowing the spell but of the spell made him feel extremely useless in the situation so Henry was determined to learn it so next time he could help.
Entering the charms classroom, the second test couldn't help but to close his eyes for a minute or two and take a deep breath as he let his nostrils fill with the smell of parchment and ink. When Henry opened his eyes he was a bit too happy to find himself completely alone in the classroom before he walked to the closet desk and laid his messager type bag on it. Henry then took out his charms book, well more technically it was his older brother's old third year textbook that Henry had to learn from which explained why the spine was battered and the cover was stained along with the pages but they were still readable so Henry didn't care as he turned to the page that mentioned the wind charm.
Henry traced his finger along the line that states the wind charm or ventus as he spoke to himself " VEN-tuss," he thought he pronounced it correctly but figured he should say it again so he spoke again " VEN-tuss," Henry then pronounced it a few more times before reading the latin and greek root of the word and charm. When he was finished he took his wand out from his faded greenish jacket and held it out before tracing it in the incantation proper moment which was a spiral, Henry smiled to himself as he traced his wand in the moment of a spiral again. He got the pronunciation and moment down but would he able to cast it, Henry looked at his opened bag filled with papers and books so he decided to close it before he attempted the spell.
Henry then taking a few steps away from his stuff so he stood in the middle of the room, held his wand out and traced it in a spiral movement as he spoke " VEN-tuss," which produced a stream of wind to come from his wand which allowed Henry to smiled. When the wind stopped or when he rather lost focus of the spell, Henry pointed his wand in front of him rather again as he traced his wand in a spiral movement and said " VEN-tuss," which again caused wind to eject from his wand but this time his wand seemed to be directed at a desk covered with papers and so the wind he created blew the papers everyone around the room.
Henry lowered his wand and gulped a bit as he figured he should clean up before stuffing his wand back in his jacket and beginning to clean the mess but was also thrilled that he cast the spell, that last time he need to help he will be able to.
Status: Approved. I do wonder why it is my classroom that is always damaged in the process of these spell practices.

Once again, Ileen was in the Charms classroom to improve her spellcasting. This time, it was not about healing though, it was about dueling. For the first time in forever, the young Slytherin had signed up for a team – all the more noteworthy, since it was a Slytherin team. This was due to the experience she had had during the past summer, which had not only affected her need and ambition to become a healer. She had not only felt powerless and helpless because she had not been able to heal, but also because she had not been able to defend others and herself – well, she was highly motivated to change that.
After joining the dueling team to work on her fighting and defending skills, she didn’t want to let them down but to put all the energy in she was capable of. Ambitious as she was, she had done research about everything that was connected t dueling to add some value to the team. She wouldn’t slow them down. After careful consideration, she had now decided on a spell that she found especially helpful for duels and that was realistic for a second year to learn: The Wind Charm. If she would master this charm, she could entrap people or blow away heavy objects!
Determined, she briefly closed her eyes and recalled the incantation and the wand movement. Her chestnut wand was still safely stored in her sleeve as she raised one hand and performed a twirl, a hint, which should give a foretaste of the cyclone, which could be conjured up. “Ventus. VEN-tuss.”
After her short ritual, she opened her eyes again and fixed them on the table she had pulled into the middle of the classroom. Ileen cleared her throat and drew wand. Her heart was pounding, but her hand was calm and the grip firm. Her brown eyes sparkled as she performed the twirl and pointed at the table. “Ventus!” A light gray spiral shot out of the tip of her wand, barely visible to the naked eye, and the table slid back a few inches.
Thoughtfully, the young girl bit her lower lip. It had been the effect that the spell was supposed to have, but way too weak. Had she been to afraid to cause damage and thus too careful?
After taking a short time to sort her thoughts, she took three deep breaths and then returned to her position. This time she could literally see the table in front of her as it slid across the room. Her hand performed the twirl much more accurate this time and she nearly shouted the incantation. “VEN-tuss!”
Her change of mind was directly reflected in the effect. A a jet of strong, spiraling wind was shot from the tip of her wand and the table slid through the whole classroom before crashing at the wall. Ileen sighed satisfied and relieved. Then she ran across the room to inspect and repair the damage.
Approved. My classroom will never be the same after everyone learns this spell.

Usually autumnal nights didn't bring much cause for celebration for Callie as she found very little excitement in rainy nights and the plummeting temperatures. However this time around things were different and the girl seemed to be absolutely ecstatic. Why you ask? The duelling team of course! Callie hadn't at all expected to make the cut yet found herself with a spot on the team nonetheless which had prompted her appearance in the charms classroom on a cold autumn night. This time around learning how to heal others was the furthest thing from her mind and instead the wind charm spiralled around the girl's head. After much consideration Callie had come to the conclusion that the spell would be particularly useful in a duelling context and came with the added benefit of expanding her repertoire of spells. So with her thoughts going a million miles per hour Callie barrelled into the charms classroom with her robes billowing behind her.
Sadly Callie's general excitement only served to worsen her already clumsy nature. This time around a rogue lace on her shoe betrayed her yet again, sending the poor girl spiralling to the ground. "GAH-" Callie exclaimed to the empty room as her textbook whacked against her head on the way down. However it would take more than an unfortunate tumble to bring down Callie's determination and it wasn't long before she found herself back on her feet. Thankfully her glasses had survived the fall which was a cause for celebration in itself given how frequently she broke them. To put it lightly Callie and the eyeglasses repair charm had become the best of friends over the course of the past year or so. Misfortunes aside upon seeing the classroom was mostly empty Callie let out a short hum of delight as she sat herself down by one of the desks. Despite continued practice and stellar grades as evidence of her hard work Callie was still very much nervous about casting spells in front of other people. She lacked confidence and hoped that being on the duelling team would help overcome the fear, even if the thought made her want to turn tail and run.
"Quit overthinking, dummy!" Callie mumbled to herself as she opened up the book, forcing herself to put the fears aside. Thinking about things that made her incredibly nervous probably wasn't the best thing to do when trying to learn a new spell. "Ventus, this can't be too hard..right?" Callie thought aloud as she cracked open the textbook and traced her fingers across the parchment. "Why is it always Latin! Stupid Latin, plaguing my life." Despite the fact she was entirely alone Callie held little qualms about speaking aloud to the empty room, largely because silence wasn't exactly something she adored. Silence felt suffocating and lonely and Callie was very much a person who required some degree of background noise.
Eventually Callie settled down enough to focus on the matter at hand and spent much longer than was entirely necessary practicing the pronunciation "VEN-tuss." She repeated for what had to have been the twentieth time. "That sounds right. Probably, maybe. Gah, I wish Thomas was here. He'd know." Callie muttered as she took her cherry wood wand into her hands, still drowning in her own self-doubt. "Forget this, I'm practicing! Screw you brain!" She suddenly exclaimed whilst pushing herself up off the chair and carefully setting an apple down on a nearby table to practice. Afterwards Callie made sure to take the time to practice the proper twirl of the wand before even daring to think about coupling it with the incantation. The last thing she wanted was for something to go horribly wrong and accidentally destroy the room in the process. Eventually Callie managed to muster the courage to pair the two together and took a deep intake of air before making her attempt. "Ventus." She repeated whilst carefully following the wand movements, resulting in a small jet of wind knocking the apple and table over. "AH-" Callie exclaimed as she ran over to the table to repair the damage to make another attempt, likely remaining in careful practice until the time came for dinner.

Most people would use their time after dinner to settle down for the night and recuperate from the difficulties of the day. However, Callie was not like most people in multiple senses of the word. Instead of relaxing after a particularly difficult day she instead scurried her way over to the charms classroom to practice something she’d had in her hand for a few days by now. Namely the banishing charm that she’d happened across when reading a couple days ago. The possibilities of the spell utterly captivated the young girl, especially since she’d recently discovered of her placement in the duelling team and was subsequently trying to learn as many spells as possible. Depulso was simply another addition to her growing repertoire of spells that Callie thought would eventually come in handy one way or another. So, Callie slipped into the empty charms classroom armed with nothing more than a textbook, her cherry wood wand a newfound sense of determination.
As had become custom Callie settled herself down at one of the desks in a quiet corner of the classroom and cracked open the textbook. A million and one thoughts raced through her mind as she ran her fingers across the parchment and mumbled the words printed on the page. Sadly, it didn’t take long for Callie to encounter what was becoming her mortal enemy: Latin. “MORE LATIN?” She exclaimed to the silence of the classroom in mild dismay. “How can anyone find this stuff interesting? Bah! Stupid Etymology! Stupid Latin!” Callie complained in mild disgust as she scanned over the words whilst lamenting the prevalence of Latin in spellcasting. At this point Callie was beginning to conclude that Latin existed only to provide torture to unwitting students of magic. Latin related torture aside it didn’t take very long for Callie to sit repeating the incantation until the words seemed to be engraved into her mind. She tended to over rehearse these things and that certainly wasn’t about to change anytime soon. Callie simply wanted to get things right as soon as possible and time was certainly of the essence. “De-PHUL-so.” Callie repeated to the empty room which would most certainly have grown annoyed at her constant repetition if it was sentient. Thankfully the classroom lacked ears or a brain so Callie could repeat herself to her hearts content. Shortly after she repeated the constant repetition with the wand movements, making sure to follow the guidance written down as closely as possible.
Eventually Callie managed to break out of her own circle of repetition and placed a soon to be unfortunate apple on the ground in front of her. Not that Callie minded as she didn’t hold apples in very high regard anyway other than their weird ability to keep those pesky doctors at bay. “Depulso.” Callie spoke carefully as she performed a sweeping motion with her wand, causing the poor apple to be pushed backwards. All of this prompted a squeal of delight from the young girl who quickly scurried over to the apple to torture it all over again until she had to leave for bed. Poor apple.

One of these days Callie would allow herself the time to take a breather and settle down to a book that didn’t involve schoolwork. Today wasn’t that day and Lord of the Rings would simply have to wait as Callie Jensen had happened across yet another spell that caught her interest. This time around it was the summoning charm that had the pleasure of finding itself at the forefront of Callie’s mind rather than her usual assortment of comic books. Ever since being accepted onto the duelling team learning more spells seemed to have taken precedence over much of her usual time wasters. These days finding Callie sinking in to bury her nose in a comic book was becoming a rarer sight and instead buried herself in charms textbooks. Batman was simply not important enough in comparison to a good old summoning charm. Especially when one took into consideration her time practicing the banishing charm. It seemed only natural to try and learn its counterpart next.
As per usual Callie barrelled down the hallway at her usual excited pace with the fabric of her robes billowing behind her. They were still much too big, but Callie had learned to live with the constant pain of her sleeves tumbling down. Thankfully this time there wasn’t a cauldron or a sink for the fabric to become soaked in which was a cause for celebration. Instead it simply caught the doorknob as she slipped into the classroom, causing Callie to become snagged on the doorway. After unhooking herself from the pesky doorknob Callie settled herself down in the centre of the classroom rather than her usual seat at the back. Slowly but surely her confidence in spellcasting was growing and the thought of failure was less terrifying. Less terrifying but still something Callie was entirely keen to avoid. Falling over her own feet was one thing she could brush off, messing up on a spell due to her own failures was something much harder to overcome. Callie briefly looked to her watch before tossing her latest practice dummy across the room: another apple. There wasn’t much time to practice this evening as Callie had gotten particularly caught up in other things. Not exactly an ideal situation but Callie seemed determined to figure things out as soon as possible. “Alright!” She exclaimed to the silence of the room as she flipped through the textbook placed on a nearby desk. “Accio! There it is.” She scanned the page for a couple of moments and carefully practiced the incantation.
“AH-kee-oh, AH-kee-oh, AH-kee-oh.” She repeated whilst rocking back and forth on her feet. This time around the practice didn’t last as long and Callie quickly moved onto the wand movements, moving her wand in a motion resembling the upper half of a circle. Time was of the essence! No time to waste on practice! Even if her mind was telling her it was an awful idea. “Accio.” Callie repeated for the fourth time at the same time as the wand movement, causing the apple to start barrelling towards her. Eventually it managed to hit her on the chest, sparking a mild laugh of delight from the girl. The speed had taken her by surprise but that was something she could work on with practice and perhaps when she had significantly more time to dedicate to the spell. Sadly, tonight wasn’t that night and after a few more tries at the spell Callie had to quickly dash out of the room to avoid getting into trouble. Learning was important but so too was avoiding detention.

Word Count: 604Henry felt like he's been spending to much time in the charms classroom. It was definitely becoming his favorite room besides from the library and also maybe besides from the library Henry could be found there all the time now learning advanced spells. That day was no different as the twelve year old stepped inside the classroom and almost breath a sigh of relief as no matter what was going on in his life or what was on his mind whenever he stepped into the charms classroom everything felt perfect or peaceful at least for the few movements he was there learning an charm.
That day was at a first glance like any other day but to Henry that day was special, he recently made the slytherin dueling team and was now a dueler at Hogwarts for slytherin. So the pressure to learn new spells and charms was on for the twelve year old geek especially since what he lacked in strength he had to make up for in intelligence if he wished to keep up with his fellow duelers and help lead slytherin to glory in dueling by winning the dueling cup. Henry never shown house pride before but now being on the dueling team and being a part of something, he wanted to do as much as he can to contribute to the success of the slytherin dueling team so what better way then for the miniature know it all to do then learn some new charms that can be used for dueling.
The charm he's learning is the singing jinx or Cantis which not only had it's benefits in dueling but was also special to the twelve year old slytherin. For the jinx was one of the first that his older brother taught him back and once he turned 17, it was the first he casted on their father to show Henry a example. Henry has loved it ever since his brother casted the charm when he younger and made a promise with his brother that he will learn it before his third year which is what he's doing.
Henry took his wand out from his messager type bag before putting his bag on a empty desk and taking out his brother's old third year charm book, as he flipped to the page that the singing jinx was one. He read the summary of the jinx before saying the incarnation out loud, " Cantis," Henry wasn't sure if he said it correctly so he said it again " Cantis," thinking he got it, Henry the moved on to the wand movement as he held his wand up and traced it in the shape of a musical notewhile keeping it pointed at his made up target. Henry smiled before tracing his wand again in the shape of a music note
while keeping it pointing in front of him.
After a few more times, Henry was pretty confident that he got it as he held his wand up and spoke " Cantis," while tracing his wand in the shape of a music note. Henry wasn't quite sure if it did anything and with no one else there, he decided to cast it on himself as he pointed his wand at himself and spoke " Cantis," while tracing his wand in the movement of a music note
and before he knew it, the twelve year old started to sing. It lasted for quite a while which made Henry glad that no one was there to witnessed it but when he finished, Henry just smiled that he was able to cast it.

Henry just stepped into the charms classroom when he took a breath of relief as he stood at the entrance of the classroom and close his eyes for a moment before reopening then and finding all his worries disappear at least for the time he would spend in the classroom practicing charms. Henry walked to the closet desk as he took his messager type bag off his shoulder and place it on the desk before taking out his older brother's old third year textbook. That day was different since he would be learning two charms that day, Henry remembered the owl from Professor Vernatis about how he had to learn both Lumos duo and Lumos Maximum together not that it would be a problem since he already spent more than enough time in the charms classroom.
Henry decided to start with Lumos duo as he flipped to the correct page and read about the spell before reading the latin terminology, Henry was definitely a odd boy since he enjoyed reading and learning about both Latin and Greek roots and meanings. Henry then spoke very loudly " Lumos," not sure if he said it correctly he decided to say it again as he spoke loudly " Lumos," alright not that bad not Henry took his wand out from a pocket on the inside of his robes to practice the wand movement. Henry pointed his wand in front of him as he then made a quick horizontal slash in the air then pointing it forward. Smiling at the movement, Henry decided to practice it again as he made another quick horizontal slash in the air before pointing it forward. Believing he did both the movement and pronunciation correctly, Henry spoke " Lumos," while making a quick horizontal slash in the air then pointing it forward. A glow of light was then produced from his wand which allowed the boy to feel accomplished that he actually did the spell.
Henry then watched the light from his wand go out as he lost focus before turning a page in his older brother's textbook to now learn Lumos Maximum.
Henry placed his wand on the table as he read a few facts and the Latin terminology of the charm before saying very loudly " Lumos Maximum," Henry listened to his pronunciation of the spell but decided to say it again as he spoke loudly " Lumos Maximum," after saying the charm a few more times, Henry then picked up his wand to practice the wand movement for lumos maximum. Henry held his wand in front of him as he flick his wand forward before bringing it back slightly to himself and flicking it forward again. That had to be the most complicated wand movement that Henry did it yet but no worries he was determined to get this spell as he practice the movement again; Henry held his wand in front of him then flick it forward before bringing it back slightly and flicking it forward again.
Henry thought he got both the incarnation and wand movement down separately so he held his wand at and flick his wand forward then bought it back slightly and flick his wand forward again while he spoke " Lumos Maximum," which created a small glow of light from his wand before going out. Determine to get the charm, Henry held his wand in front of him as he again flick it forward then bought it back slightly and flick his wand forward again as he spoke " Lumos Maximum," and again a small light appeared at the tip of his wand before going out. A bit frustrated and more determined than ever, Henry held his wand in front of him as he flick it forward then pull it back to himself slightly before flicking it forward again while shouting " Lumos Maximum!" His wand then produced a large light that grew to fill the whole room and almost blinded him as he squinted at the light a bit before it went away. Henry smiled at his accomplishments and now couldn't wait to use that spell either in his common room or in his next duel as he begun to pack up.Status:

ReducioAs the sun breached through the window Callie couldn't help but let out a rather loud yawn. In her humble opinion it was simply much to early to be awake, even if she had spent the early hours of the morning reading books. It wasn't exactly the greatest decision in the world considering she had planned on being in the charms classroom so early but alas she'd have to suffer nonetheless. So in spite of her general grumpiness she continued her near idle pace down the hallway and carefully slinked into the classroom as quietly as she could. Naturally she'd mildly bullied her duelling partner and close friend Thomas Baines into participating who followed behind the girl with a few complaints that were swiftly ignored. Callie was far too tired and much too focused on practicing the charm she'd been obsessing over for the past few days to even consider Thomas' complaints. Of course she'd entirely neglected to mention to Thomas that she was practicing a jinx on him but he'd figure things out eventually...right? Hopefully he wouldn't be too mad..Callie knew how to stop the charm anyway! Besides maybe he'd discover a beautiful singing voice and grow to be the voice of a generation. If anything Callie was performing a selfless act of charity and not at all experimenting on her fellow housemates. Morals be damned, there was spells to be learned darn it! Eventually there would be even more duels and Callie was most certainly going to do her best to be prepared, so hopefully Thomas would be okay with the sacrifice.
Upon arrival in the classroom Callie carefully dumped her belongings onto the closest chair. Shortly afterwards she brought an old battered notebook with some of the pages half torn out into the light of day followed by her familar cherry wood wand. A new notebook was certainly in Callie's future but for now at least she refused to replace what she considered old reliable. Thomas stood to the front of the question rather idly, waiting for whatever Callie was about to throw at him. Whilst her test subject friend waited she hummed a gentle tune whilst flicking through the pages of her notebook. Eventually she came across the page covered in notes about Cantis, accompanied by a few drawings of a musical note. "CAN-tis." She mumbled under her breath as she spun her wand around inbetween her fingers. "Seems easy enough..probably." She finished off her brief reminder with a pleasant smile and held her wand outwards, clearly ready to strike. Under normal circumstances Callie might've given the poor boy a warning but Callie was on a timelimit and well aware of the inevitable yelling. "Cantis!" She repeated whilst moving her wand in the shape of the musical note she'd so carefully jotted down, casting the spell at her poor unsuspecting housemate.
It wasn't long before a rather angry looking Thomas started singing a strange version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star that Callie thought it might've been time to run. "Don't get mad, you wouldn't have said yes otherwise!" She defended quickly whilst scrambling to grab her belongings. "Finite Incantatem." She recited whilst making the corresponding wand movements, bringing an end to Thomas' plight. However Callie didn't stick around long and quickly dashed out the classroom, with Thomas running after her to give the girl a piece of his mind.

Name of spell Summoning Charm (Accio)
Incantation AH-kee-oh
Wand Movement Upper half of a circleScarlett had never really put her knowledge of spellwork to good use before. Charms had been her mother's favourite subject back in the old days, so naturally her mother would've wanted Scarlett to get an early headstart in the topic, boosting her ahead of her peers just like her mother had once done.
When Scarlett was old enough to read, comprehend basic sentences and generally understand what words meant and what her mother was saying, she had been taught what a wand was, how to hold one and the difference between a hex, a jinx and a charm. She had even skimmed through a few textbooks, and fuzzy bits of information still lingered in her mind years later.
In Scarlett's first year, she hadn't really paid much attention in Charms, having known a lot of the basics, a lot of what Professor Vernatis was saying already. Scarlett technically did not fail the subject, but due to her lack of proper effort, she hadn't really succeeded either. She was average - Acceptable - at best. When she really needed spells, say, when she was setting up an elaborate scheme, she managed rather well. Yet, her mind wasn't being challenged enough in that particular department.
Summer had come and gone and Scarlett had had some major falling-outs with her old friend back in Godric's Hollow. She had tried to hex them many times, but she just wasn't practiced enough for some of the older ones. It resulted in shame and embarrassment as her friends realised that - yes - Scarlett had actually tried to hex them. They shunned her (and, admittedly, rightfully so) and the rest of the summer was mainly spent indoors or out of the public eye. Once Scarlett returned to Hogwarts, she threw herself into her studies with a new work ethic, trying to prove to no one in particular that she could do it. She wasn't stupid.
Now in the empty Charms classroom with her Standard Book of Spells: Grade 3, Scarlett peered curiously at the Summoning Charm's page. It seemed like a useful spell indeed. No more getting up from the sofa to grab a snack, no more getting up from your chair to get your quill...it sounded wonderful. Scarlett had scanned the Grade 3 book and a few spells had caught her eye - the Wind Charm was one. However, she had decided she would take it slow and start with a spell that certainly was handy, but not too destructive.
Scarlett had brought along her History of Magic textbook for practice, hurriedly selected from her trunk with no thought of how heavy it looked. She could've brought her chocolate frog card, or a random glove or anything lighter but nooo. She just had to accidentally go and select one of the heaviest textbooks she had. Well, what was done was done. She glared at the book, as if willing it to lose some weight. A few pages maybe. Needless to say, it didn't work, so with a sigh, Scarlett set the book on a desk, skirted backwards and began her practice.
Scarlett started with a few quick wand movements - the upper half of a circle. It was simple enough. Not too tricky. Her arm consistently moved from left to right, again and again. She repeated it for a good while, before eventually getting bored. Time to add in the incantation.
"Ah-KEE-oh!" she said clearly, moving the wand the way that was described in the textbook. Nothing happened. She frowned. What was she doing wrong? Was she really that bad? "Ah-KEE-oh!"
Nothing.
"What is wrong with this stupid, freaking-"
She stopped her mini-tantrum, glancing at the open pages of The Standard Book of Spells: Grade 3. The correct pronunciation was 'AH-kee-oh', it said. Oh. Well then. That was why A History of Magic wasn't moving - she was saying the incantation wrong. Armed with her new revelation, she continued her practice.
"AH-kee-oh, AH-kee-oh, AH-kee-oh!" she said, moving her wand in the shape of the upper half of a circle, like she had practiced. "AH-kee-oh!"
On that last AH-kee-oh, the book flew into the air, hovered shakily for a moment before zooming towards Scarlett with the force of a Bludger, knocking into her stomach before flapping down towards the floor. Why was she a Beater for her house team again? Merlin. It hurt a lot, but nothing she hadn't been through before. With slow, dull movements, she grabbed the two textbooks and left the classroom, glad to have gotten that over with. She had learnt a new spell as well. She wasn't stupid after all.Word Count 774

Name of Spell Freezing Charm (Immobulus)
Incantation Ih-MOH-byoo-luhs
Wand Movement two mountain peaksReducioCade was pretty eager to try out a new spell he had read about in the Book of Spells. Racing to the charms classroom he yanked open the door to see it completely vacant. Cade bit his lip wondering if he could practice in here alone. Peeking his head inside he was too excited to wait around. He dashed inside closing the door behind him. Putting down his school bag on a desk seat he pulled out the Book of Spells and his walnut wand. Flipping through the pages he found the right spell. Reading carefully, Cade noted the description of the spell. The freezing charm was made to stop the actions of the aimed target. The movement of both living and animated objects are halted. Cade thought this would do great against any potential duels he had no possible way of winning otherwise. If he could stop his counterpart from casting anything else he could get away safely.
"Right... So I need something that moves." Cade rummaged in his bag once more. He pulled out his set of copper scales from potions class. It was the only thing he had that would move by the force of gravity. "Right." He said again to himself checking the book once more to review the incantation. "Immobulus. Ih-MOH-byoo-luhs. Easy enough." Raising his walnut wand and pointing it at the scales. Pausing to prod the end of his wand into the scales so that the balance slowly eased back and forth, Cade concentrated.
"Immobulus!" He waved his wand. Cade stared at the brass scales. They still bounced lethargically up and down, teasing him. Cade furrowed his brows and considered the text again. He'd forgotten the wand movement! The movement reminded him of mountain peaks. Starting off like an uppercase M and ending with a tail that moved back around to the front. Cade practiced it in silence thinking. How could he be so dumb! Wand movement was one of the most important steps of casting a spell. He could have really put himself in danger when adding the standard wave to this incantation. He didn't want to think of what could have happened to him or his wand.
Cade figured after a few more practice movements that he had the spell down now for sure! Jabbing the scales again, he readied himself, confident in himself this time.
"Immobulus!" Cade moved his wand in the mountain peak shape. He beamed at the completely still set of scales. Looking closely at his handiwork Cade tucked his wand away. A job well done for today.WC: 444Name of Spell Engorgement Charm (Engorgio)
Incantation en-GOR-gee-oh
Wand Movement open circle with a vial topReducio
Cade was once again in the emptied charms classroom. He now knew that it was ok to use even when no one was there. He had a set plan for tonight. The engorgement and shrinking charms had caught his eye when reading a book on it in the library. He was quite eager to see if it would work on sweets as well. Cade's mouth was already watering just thinking about a giant Fizzing Whizbee or Acid Pop.
Cade pulled from his bag the candy he would practice with. He then flipped to the correct page in the Book of Spells. He would have to be careful, the passage warned with too much growth, the target could explode. Cade would hate to have to explain what bits of licorice wand was doing all over Vernatis' classroom the next day. But there was a chance the professor wouldn't notice, the room smells like sweets almost all the time, with the amount the professor brings in during lectures. Cade reminded himself that licorice had a distinct smell. Everyone would be bothered.
"Right," Cade cleared his head of daydreams, he was now in front of his targets ready to practice the spell. Cade had trouble getting the wand movement correct. It wasn't quite as fluid as some other spells were. The shape reminded him of one of his potion phials without a stopper. Or bizarrely like an igloo from the bird's eye. It was in fact an open circle. But he preferred to reference it as a round phial. Cade reviewed the hand motion again and again until it came second nature.
"En-GOR-gee-oh." He pronounced eyeing the book for the correct inflections. Cade considered the word. Trying to figure out the etymology behind it. He knew a gorge was a landscape feature, but he had a funny feeling that was not the intended item to focus on. Cade thought about the spell's purpose. It was to make things grow. To fill things past its point. No... To fill things to excess! That was right. Cade smiled, happy that he figured it out by himself.
Cade focused on his target at last. The Acid Pop looked unassuming now, but Cade was eager to change it up. Moving his wand in the phial like shape, he said "Engorgio!" His wand emitted an icy blue light and the Acid Pop grew at an incredible rate. It was now the size of a table lamp. Cade's eyes grew in amazement. Everything had shifted up a few sizes perfectly. Even the wrapper! Cade moved the now incredibly heavy acid pop off of the desk. He wanted to keep it that size to show the other kids in his dormitory.WC: 456Name of Spell Shrinking Charm (Reducio)
Incantation ruh-DOO-see-oh
Wand Movement Uppercase VReducioCade now flipped the Book of Spells to the next page describing the counterspell for Engorgio. Taking his time reading the text over, he pulled out another candy. This one was a simple sherbert lemon. A candy he didn't particularly enjoy, so there were no qualms with shrinking it down. The passage now warned about using the spell on humans. Cade was not planning to shrink anyone, though it could be useful to sneak into areas. But that could always be done with an invisibility cloak. Cade shook his head, some wizards were either very ignorant or pretty dark.
Cade eyed the wand movement. It was simplistic compared to the engorgement charm. Cade wondered why that always seemed to be the case. The spell's movement would be a complex wave but the counterspell a simple flick. Cade didn't know what to think, or even why that was the case. But he kept note to either ask about it or research in the library. Perhaps if the spell created an emergency, it would be quick to handle and reverse? The wand movement, however, was the shape of a V. Or an arrowhead pointing down. He practiced it slowly moving his wand carefully. He felt like the conductor of a symphony. Cade eventually sped up getting more confident with each wave and flick of his wand. Finally, he stopped to look at the pronunciation.
"Ruh-DOO-see-oh." It was an easier incantation to remember. An obvious Latin etymology meaning to reduce fitted perfectly to the spells intended use. Going over it a few more times in his head he wondered just how spell inventors experimented and created spells. Does the wand know all languages and just assume what the wizard wants to do? Wand lore always illuded Cade.
Cade snapped out of his thoughts once more and pointed his wand at the sherbert lemon. Moving his wand in the V shape, he uttered the incantation, "Reducio!". Immediately a purple beam streched out of his wand tip and the hard candy shuddered to a smaller size. Cade squinted at the table. At first he didn't see it. The sherbert lemon was now the size of a small pea. Laughing, Cade pocketed it and packed away his things. He took up his now lamp sized Acid Pop and tried to squeeze it into his bag with the Book of Spells. No use, he would have to carry this around the castle and endure the strange looks. Not that that was a bad thing. Cade smiled as he left the room. He would return another night.WC: 432

Word Count: 491/400Henry stepped into the charms classroom again and by now it felt normal to the boy know was spending every waking minute in that classroom to learn the third year charms. Henry found a seat at the back of the class which allowed him to placed his messager type bag onto the desk and take out his older brother's old third year charm book, he flipped to the page of the bandaging charm or Ferula. Henry saw many of his classmates learning the spell before while he focused on other charms but now after falling out of a tree one to many times and seeing others injured with not able to help them, Henry was finally taking matters into his own hands with learning the charm that could hopefully help himself and also help others.
Henry read over the spell, particularly the latin origin. He was odd for sure, he lived the Latin and greek origins of spells and found that he was able to learn them easily with them so he read the origin and basically memorized it before turning to the history of the spell. Once he read everything he could on the spell, Henry then read the movement and incantation for the bandaging charm as he then spoke "fer-ROOL-lah," he listened to his pronunciation but thought he said it wrong so he said again a but louder and without a wand, "fer-ROOL-lah," Henry listened and wished someone else was there with him to at least tell him if he was saying the spell correctly or had a error in the pronunciation of the incantation. However he decided to speak it one more time before practicing it with his wand as he spoke " fer-ROOL-lah."
He thought he had said it correctly so he took his wand from his inside jacket pocket and decided to try the wand movement for the bandaging charm. Henry moved his wand in the movement of the bandaging charm which was simply tapping the end if the wand to your target so he simply tapped the end of his wand ever so lightly to his forearm which he decided who be his target that day. Henry watched his form as he decided to do it again and once again he lightly tapped the end if his wand to his forearm which would be his target, when he thought he got the spell Henry took a deep breath and was readying himself to cast the spell.
Henry cleared his throat before tapping the end of his wand on his forearm ever so lightly while saying " fer-ROOL-lah," and then a wisp of a bandage flew from his wand and around his forearm as it secured itself in place. Henry stared at his bandaged arm that he just casted with astonishment, he actually did it. He casted the bandaging charm and now hopefully would be able to help others in need of help that was.Status:Approved

It felt like it had been ages since Ross had learned a new spell; however, it'd only been a couple months since Summer had arrived and left him. Re-entering the Charms room with Knox's charm notes in hand was an almost nostalgic experience. The room was practically empty, as he had expected. He always made sure to do his new spells on the warm weekends during lunch for the sake of his own sanity. His growling stomach was a large motivator for him at all times, after all. Besides, too many people and too many loud noises could get... overwhelming, for him. He had trouble focusing on just one person. Too many could be emotionally exhausting.
Originally, he was not exactly sure what spell to learn first; however, as soon as he read of the bandaging spell in the book only one thing had entered his mind.
He wanted to be a mummy
Sure, it was a healing spell. Sure it was supposed to be a 'tight bandage' in order to keep people in place. He could absolutely have a bit of fun with it if he wanted to, right? Charms could be fun too, though he supposed it was a careful experience. One miss of a flick and everything could go horribly array- or nothing could happen. It was truly up to the pronunciation he supposed. It'd be rather inconvenient if there was a spell with the same pronunciation with just a slightly different wand movement. He supposed he would likely not be quite as interested as he was in charms if that was the case. Besides, mummies were fascinating. They always showed up in detective novels. If he could be an alive mummy, he could only imagine how ready he would be for winter.
He set down Knox's book on the ground and leaned down. He flipped to the third year notes page. The first one written was Ferula, making it rather convenient for him. He skimmed the page, attempting to decode the exact information he needed. Knox tended to be blunt, yet coat his words with fancy sayings that Ross could hardly figure out at times. The etymology was all fine and dandy to read, but it truly was not his cup of tea. In fact, he would stick to just blunt, regular coffee if he could help it. He had considered rewriting parts of Knox's book on multiple occasions. As soon as he felt he registered the majority of the information, a smile crossed his lips. Mummification, here he came!
He took his wand out of his pocket before he sat down on the ground next to the book, putting his left leg forward- It would be easier to become a mummy if both of his hands were free after all.
With a deep breath, he managed to get out "FURR-OO-LA!" he shouted, tapping his leg with his wand.
Nothing happened, of course. With how loud he shouted, he was rather grateful that he had chosen a time when the room was practically empty. He nearly congratulated himself on escaping an uncomfortable memory that would haunt him for the rest of his life.
He looked back at the book in order to check what he did wrong. He skimmed the page, only to find himself facepalming at his own forgetfulness.
"fer-ROOL-lah, not FURR-OO-LA! What was I thinkin'?" he mumbled to himself, but he still found himself laughing at his mistake.
He had difficulty beating himself up over charms. On page two it quite literally informed him that it was the work ethic that counted, though he supposed it was likely meant to remind Knox to not lose motivation. As he regained his seriousness and motivation, he directed his attention back to his leg.
"fer-ROOL-lah" he stated, sounding far more concentrated and calm than in his prior attempt.
He gently tapped his leg with old reliable- his wand of course, and suddenly felt the tight bindings of bandages tie tightly around his leg. If it had been around his stomach, he could have sworn he would not have ever been able to breathe again. Now, the only question to test out now was one thing: Could he walk?
As he attempted to push himself up, he found himself falling right back down onto his butt. Perhaps limited movement and tight pressure in the lower leg really was something that Ross would need a moment to adjust to for a bit. Now there were only two options- figure out how to get off the bandages or figure out how to walk. Ross was certain both would take quite a bit of time.
Third Year Spell - Ventus
Incantation -VEN-tuss
Wand Movement - Twirl Wand
Word Count - 643
Despite his miserable attempt to become a mummy the day prior (he truly wished scissors were more common within the wizarding world), he was back and ready for more. He had been so ready and excited to get back into doing spells, he had practically read Knox's book every day back at home. Ventus was one of the spells he felt were likely meant for combat, but while Ross aspired to be a good detective he was not much of combat's biggest fan. It just seemed too dangerous. Ross loved mysteries- hated danger. He felt the best mysteries were when it was entirely within the rules to solve the mystery and look into the mystery. Sure that did not leave many options, but it did force one to search outside of the box. One of Ross' best options were people. They were mysteries in a human vessel in general! Communicating with them was an entirely new story.
So Ross had tossed and turned at night in order to figure out what else Ventus could possibly be used for. His first consideration was flying, but then it hit him he would likely either be found naked or with brain damage if enough wind was used in order to fly. The next thought was to perhaps use it for party tricks, but then he realized that wind was not exactly the most controllable source. It had taken him ages to consider what to do, until it dawned upon him. He was a GENIUS.
Hot Summer Days were the bane of his existence, but he could absolutely defeat them now. Ventus was just a portable fan with extra steps!
He walked to a far corner of the room, flipping to the second page of the third year chapter. It was Ventus, of course. He had read it many times the night prior, as he knew he had to have this memorized. After all, he was not about to put the crusty old book in danger. He would be devastated if he accidentally blew the crinkled pages out of the book. Then he would be forced to rewrite it, and while he frequently considered doing so he had absolutely decided that was not exactly what he wanted to do with the rest of his Sunday evening.
"VEN-tuss, VEN-tuss, VEN-tuss..." he repeated to himself, though at this point it would be practically impossible to forget for him.
Certain he had it down, he gently put the book on the ground. He patted it gently, as if it was some form of cat of sorts.
"I'll be right back for ya, okay? he reassured the book.
Walking to the opposite side of the room, he took a deep breath and pointed his wand directly at his face. He closed his eyes in concentration.
"VEN-tuss. he stated firmly.
He twirled his wand, and suddenly a large gust of wind came flying out of the wand at his face. If his eyes had not been closed prior, they certainly were now. His hair went flying, glasses pressed against his face. He could swear the wind ironically nearly got knocked out of himself. He had practically been sent into fight or flight due to how much wind there was. He dropped the wand out of shock at how intense the force had been. Luckily for him, the wand stopped blowing the wind as soon as he had dropped it.
He put his hands on his knees as what had just happened caught up to him. His breaths were unsteady for a solid minute until he was able to get them back into regular motion. Deep breaths, deep breaths.
Perhaps he would let the combat kids keep the wind spell, and he could just consistently recast the snowflake spell whenever he got too hot.

Third Year Spell - Summoning Charm
Incantation - AH-kee-oh
Wand Movement - Frown
Word Count - 517
Ross had been stuck on the summoning charm for what had felt like ages. He had practiced it time and time again within his dorm, yet he could never seem to get it. There was something about it that just made it increasingly difficult despite the fact it was a rather simple spell. Sure he was a second year- there was no need to be worrying about a third year spell yet; however, it just felt so frustrating being incapable of figuring out how to accomplish it. It would make being a lazy person far easier if he could only figure out what he was doing wrong.
Determined to solve this problem of his once and for all, he had set apart an entire day to figure out how to do the summoning charm. Ross was never an organized person; however, he would prefer to get through the book he had found in order of the pages that he needed to. It would make it far easier for him to figure out what and what not he had completed due to the fact he had the memory of a goldfish.
Letting out a sigh, he gently removed the ring from his finger and placed it on a table. He walked to the opposite side of the room as the thoughts of the uncomfortable cycle that would be possibly walking back and fourth to check if his incantation had succeeded flooded his mind.
He gently put the book he used as reference on the ground and flipped to the page once more. He had practiced the incantation and the wand movement multiple times on his own, yet he could never seem to get it.
"AH-kee-oh, AH-kee-oh, AH-kee-oh" he mumbled to himself as he 'read' the book, though he truly was only going off of memory.
He closed the book and pointed his wand at the ring on the table, though he could hardly see it. He attempted to picture it in his mind. It was silver and round, making it a wonderful conductor when it warm or cold. It truly could be a nuisance due to it, as it only got colder when he wanted it to be warmer. It was rather small considering he could not see it and it fit well around his finger. It had a sheep head at the top of the ring.
Carefully, he drew the frown of a face in the air with his wand as he had practiced all those times prior.
"AH-kee-oh!" he shouted, clenching his eyes shut so he could concentrate on how the ring would feel in his hand.
He opened one eye as he felt nothing, until he realized that the ring was hurdling at him. He let out a squeak as he went to duck, but he was too late. The ring bounced against his left hand with a tiny bonk.
It worked
It had worked
A grin crossed his face as it dawned upon him he would not have to spend the rest of the day trapped in the classroom like he had planned.
Third Year Spell - Banishing Charm
Incantation - de-PUHL-so
Wand Movement - sweep of wand
Word Count - 456
With a sudden, large amount of time on his hands Ross knelt down to pick up his book and ring. He put the ring back on his finger and adjusted his hands so he could look at the book. With so many free moments, he supposed he should not waste a second of them. He flipped to the next page.
The Banishing Charm
Ross' eyes lit up. He had seen it while flipping through the book prior; however, he had never quite looked into it. perhaps he would be banishing demons, which could certainly be an interesting experience. On the other hand, he was not quite sure if demons were real. To put the cherry on top of that, he was not exactly sure if he would like to meet a demon. In fact, that seemed like it was possibly the last thing on his agenda. Still, he supposed he needed to protect himself.
As he skimmed the page, it became increasingly clear it was not about demons and instead about being practically the opposite of the summoning charm. He supposed he should have known due to the name, but it would have been nice to do something a bit more along the lines of defense of the dark arts. Once he finished, he came out realizing three things.
First of all, the incantation had latin roots.
Second of all, the wand movement was the sweep of a wand
Third of all, the pronunciation was de-PUHL-so, which was quite the silly pronunciation if he could say so himself.
Still, it seemed far easier than the one he had struggled to learn before. He practically had everything he needed set up for the spell itself, so there was certainly no reason to not do it. Placing the book that was nearly falling apart at his side, he could not help but wonder why 'a sweep of a wand' was so vague. Would any sweep of a wand do it? It seemed like a rather odd spell to begin with, but the book claimed it was rather old for a spell. He wondered if there were birthdays for spells. He wondered how many must have gone uncelebrated. Being a spell seemed like a hard life.
Either way, he walked back to the table where he had put the ring with his original learning mission and backed up.
"de-PUHL-so!" he exclaimed with a sweep of his wand, his ring going flying and crashing against the wall.
Ross rushed over to the ring as a sudden wave of regret hit him. What if it got dented? He knelt down to the ring and picked it up, only to find there was not a single dent. he sighed with relief.
