@Asteria Knight @Calanthe ChoiThis was one of those nights were Birdie just couldn't fall asleep. She had tossed and turned for hours until she got the bright idea to stop trying. She silently got out of bed, and looked around at her dorm mates. All asleep. Or at least they looked like they were. She sneaked her way across the room, and out into the Slytherin common room.
It was dark and empty. Her eyes trailed across the room, but stopped at the door to the hallway. No... She couldn't. Although, why not. It was a stupid rule, anyway. Birdie was 11 years old, she wasn't a child. Filled with excitement she made her way to the door. She slowly opened it and looked out. No one was here. She quietly exited and closed it behind her. It was cold and creepy, in the basement, but Birdie wasn't scared. Okay, maybe a little scared. She moved as silently as she could up the stairs until she reached the second floor. The adrenaline rush she got, was soon switched with the fascination of seeing the castle like this. All empty, dark and beautiful. And so much history. Birdie thought of all the stories her parents had told her, about their own time here. Maybe she would find love here, like them? Or maybe she would make friends for life, like they also did. Birdie was immediately pulled out of her thoughts when she heard a whisper from across the hall. She was going to get caught. Her head immediately turned to see who it was, and hoped it at least was a friendly teacher. To her surprise, it looked like two students. Instead of running away from them like any sane person would do, Birdie decided to approach. They were on the same boat, so what bad could happend?

Slipping out of the Ravenclaw tower, Asteria tried not to make as much as a creak. Her curiosity and sense of adventure had gotten the better of her once again. In her time at Hogwarts so far, she had always wondered how the castle looked at night, now she was actually going to go find out what she had been waiting to find out for almost a full school year.
Her hair was shoulder-length and lavender in color, showing her current state of serenity and her eyes were amber-brown in color, also from being relaxed. She had her Ravenclaw robes wrapped around herself tightly
In the first part of the year, she hadn't really had time for anything fun. It was all mostly just getting used to the place and the situation of being in a boarding school. Now that the Ravenclaw had finally gotten settled in this place, it was time to have a good adventure.
What if she ran into a ghost or something? Even worse, what if she ran into a prefect or a professor? Asteria pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind. There weren't that many prefects and professors so she most likely wouldn't run into one or anyone for that matter. That's how she would want to go about it, just her and a castle to explore, nothing else getting in her way.
As she entered the hallways of the castle, she grew comfortable with the darkness. It was just the lack of light, nothing scary about that. She examined the area, gazing at the intricate architecture, lost in thought. "So cool," she whispered to herself quietly, not thinking or noticing that she was speaking out loud. Oh crap, Asteria. Why did you do that? The first year internally scolded herself.
Looking around, Asteria saw not one but two other people, one of which seemed to be approaching her. They didn't look old enough, from what she could tell in the darkness, to be professors but they were still people, something she was looking to avoid. How could she get away if one had already seen her though? She could try to run but there was no guarantee that she would be fast enough to outrun this girl and that would cause a fuss which might attract even more attention than she already had.
Instead of doing anything logical, she stopped in her tracks, letting her lavender hair shorten to chin length and turn a fiery orange color. The Ravenclaw just stood there, waiting for someone else to move first.

Birdie crept closer towards the silhouette in front of her. Her eyes had adjusted to the darkness, but it was still tough to see. However, the girl in front of her stood still, allowing Birdie to make her way.
Was she scared of her? Did she think Birdie was a professor?
The corridor seemed even bigger, when you were sneaking around quietly in the dark. And as well as she knew these walls, at this time of night it was almost like they held more secrets than usual.
As she got closer she could see the girl was a Ravenclaw, based on the logo on her robe. Birdie only had positive feelings towards the house, as it was her other wish. Birdie, herself was still just wearing her pajamas. She now felt a tight bit embarrassed, as she wasn't expecting running into anyone, but brushed it off.
The girl also had short hair, although Birdie couldn't quite make out the color because of the darkness. She wanted to do the lumos spell, but figured it was a stupid surefire way to get caught sneaking around.
"Hi. I'm not a professor if that's what you think." Birdie whispered in her small British accent, hoping this wasn't what would get them caught.

Calanthe hated walking through the corridors at night. They were big and every step echoed with a sound similar to banging fireworks. It seemed like a professor was right around the corner. She wished that the Gryffindor Tower offered the best view to calm her down but that title belonged to the Astronomy Tower. It would have been so easy if she could just leave the common room and walk down a few steps to a window where she could spend the rest of the night, staring out into the darkness and dreaming of not being here. Alas, the Gryffindor Tower’s windows were worthless and her nightly trips always consisted of braving the black corridors to get to her preferred spot of refuge.
As Calanthe slipped out of the common room and hurried down the stairs, her bare feet smacked against the stone. The sound of shoe heels hitting the floor was much louder than skin, so the girl had made sure her typical escapade outfit lacked footwear. Reaching the exit of the tower, Calanthe peeked out into the corridor. She waited there for a few moments, listening intently to the sounds of the night.
The groaning of the Grand Staircase? Check. The winds blasting through the open stone archways? Check. Footfalls? Nope.
With enough evidence to determine the coast clear, Calanthe whisked herself out of the stairwell and into the corridors, tiptoeing at a medium speed. She crossed the dark space with ease as she had done countless times before. It was a wonder that she had never been found by patrolling professors. Though, the young witch liked to stick to areas where professors would likely not show up, so she did not pat herself on the back. One such area was the Astronomy Tower, where she was moving to with accelerating speed.
Used to the pathways, Calanthe did not think to slow down to survey the area for nightly wanderers. Bounding around the corner, she was met with two shadowy figures who seemed to be in conversation. She stopped quickly, causing her dark hair to billow in front of her.
“Shit,” the word came tumbling out of Calanthe’s mouth before she could stop it. Straightening up, she debated getting her wand out to look like she was meant to be in the corridors at night. The realization that she had left her wand in her sheets again made her want to bang her head against the stone walls.
Again? Again?!
Sighing loudly and pinching the bridge of her nose, she put on her best I know what I’m doing face. These kids could just be stragglers like her. Or they could be on their way to an appointment with a professor, which would spell trouble for the Gryffindor.
“Shouldn’t you guys be in bed?”

Asteria glanced around, wondering if it was too late to run. Now, not only one person has noticed her but two people. Ugh. Why did they have to show up and most likely ruin her adventure? She twirled a piece of her hair nervously, deciding on the most logical thing to do in her current predicament.
A phrase that her mother always said popped into her head. Adress your situation Asteria, don't try to run away from your troubles. With that, she decided to respond to the girl. Apparently, she thought that Asteria thought that she was a professor or something? From her knowledge, no professors looked like first-years wearing pajamas so she wasn't sure why the girl would think that but apparently, she did. "Good to know. I'm not one either." Asteria whispered in a slightly harsh tone of voice.
Her hair shifted again, now becoming a teal color and falling back to slightly longer than shoulder length, the color that signified that she was feeling confident again. Her eyes became a slightly lighter shade of amber, showing her annoyance with the whole situation.
The Ravenclaw then whirled around to face the second girl. "Why aren't you in bed yet?" Asteria asked, a bit too loudly, letting her annoyance get the better of her once again. Asteria! Stay quiet for goodness sake! It's not that hard! She internally scolded herself. Hopefully, this girl wasn't the tattletale type. Her intuition told her that the first one wasn't but she could never be too sure about things like these.

Birdie rolled her eyes at the words of the first girl. Sheesh, that's what you get for trying to be nice she thought to herself. Never trying that again.
"I was trying to not scare you." She whispered back with an annoyed tone.
Although it was dark in the hallway, Birdies eyes become used to the dark long ago. That's when she noticed the girls hair change from blonde to teal, right in front of her eyes. Birdie knew this was possible, but was still shocked as she hadn't met a lot of people able to do that.
"Wait?! Did your hair just change colour?!" Birdie said, her annoyance turning into fascination. "And can you guys be quiet! You're going to get us all in trouble!" Birdie whispered louder than she had originally planned to, which might have come off a bit counter-intuitive. She smacked her hand over her lips, which made an echo of sound through the hallway, and mumbled out an apology for being loud. Nothing was going according to plan today, she thought. Why couldn't she had just stayed in her bed, then this whole situation could've been avoided. She was for sure getting caught now.

Calanthe winced as one of the two figures replied to her, words echoing as if being spoken through a megaphone. Darkness shrouded the scene, preventing her from making out any features of the figures. The voice directed at her sounded like a young girl, but that was as far as Calanthe could get. Thankfully, this meant there were no professors around to catch the trio in their rule-breaking.
She would have usually snapped back at the girl who whirled around to face her, but from Calanthe's experience, most first-timers were like this. They were frantic and unorganized, scared of either the dark or the chance of running into a professor. Sometimes, it was both. Calanthe could not blame them — she was like this on her maiden trek out of the common room after curfew. Still, the young witch preferred to be alone during these escapades and having two people who could not seem to keep their mouths shut did not bode well for escaping detention.
Before she could make up her mind to run straight past the figures to her usual spot, the second figure spoke up.
Hair? Changing colour? What...? What were those things called again? Meta...? Metamagus? Not Animorphs, surely.
Whatever the girl was, Calanthe had heard about the special race of wizards and in her efforts to avoid any interaction at Hogwarts, she had never come across one. Suddenly interested, Calanthe's demeanor shifted as she sighed and walked closer to the pair.
"Please, keep your voices down," her words were whispered slowly, indicating experience in the field of sneaking out. "I'm guessing you guys aren't prefects? I'm not either, but I could have been one, or even a professor. They patrol these corridors like bloodhounds. You should head somewhere else, like a stairwell or a room," she directed the words at both girls, but her gaze was trained on the one called out for her hair. Squinting, Calanthe could make out a blue-ish hue. Well, that's interesting.

"Well yes, but that isn't exactly something of great importance now," she dismissed the topic with a wave of her hand. By this point, she was used to people asking about her metamorphmagus talents wherever she went. It got annoying after a bit but over the years, the Ravenclaw had learned to put up with it. It was inevitable, at least until the wonderful day where she would finally learn to control her abilities better.
"And yes. I'm obviously a prefect who's disguised as an innocent first-year girl," Asteria smirked slightly. It was a pretty far-fetched tale but if the first girl truly believed that she could be mistaken for a professor then who knows what else she would believe. However, she didn't plan on testing that just then, at least not yet. The Ravenclaw waited a bit before clarifying. "No, not really," she chuckled, "And yeah, we should probably go somewhere else. This place is far too open. I saw some rooms that I think are abandoned classrooms. Maybe we should try those?" She would much rather adventure alone but perhaps these people might know of some other places which she hadn't ever gone to before.
Taking a look around the corridor, Asteria checked to see if anyone else was coming but she heard no other voices or footsteps. If someone came she could hide in one of the passages perhaps. That wasn't a great plan but at least it was some sort of a plan and better than not having a plan at all. She could only hope that no one else came along, detention wasn't exactly something she wished to have now or ever. She should really stop worrying and continue on. No prefects or professors were there now at least, she couldn't be sure of later but later was later and now was now and that was the nature of now and later.
