By the end of his seven years at Hogwarts, Euphaustus planned to at least get to witness every inch of the castle. It was stupid of anyone to not do so, especially considering that their time was limited. Excluding the fact that every student had enough time to get to explore the academy, there was no denying that the chances of missing a section or a secret spot were high.
That being said, one place everyone was allowed to make use of was the Owlery. The circular room built up from stone allowed the breezing cold winds of Scotland to freeze the beings that climbed up the spiral staircase and delved around to send an owl or two for a flight, a letter in their claws or beak. Messages, some important, even confidential. Others just wanted to reach out to their loved ones. Euphaustus got to experience none of that. His mother had no intention of receiving a screeching owl every morning or late afternoon - especially as she lived in the muggle world. Probably too suspicious. On top of that, he had no special people to send owls to.
He lacked the experience, and although it was not the end of the world, he wanted to whip a quill and scribble something on a letter, for someone else that’s not him (or Moaning Myrtle) to read. Sending love letters to the ghost girl was probably going to bite him sooner or later. So a more fruitful idea sprung one afternoon. After the usual classes were over, the Hufflepuff felt feisty to for once be obnoxious.
Over his shoulders was a tattered black bag made of leather. But the material was fading and the cheap brown silk beneath it was becoming exposed. In it, he carried a simple white quill and a few rolls of parchment. Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough for him to carry the mischievous deed of the day and instead borrowed (or rather stole) a few rolls of scattered paper.
The wind blew heavily as it easily found its way inside. The hooting of the owls was louder than the angry blowing itself. His black curly hair drizzled and set itself in between his lime green eyes. It took him only but a minute to find a comfortable spot and drop himself along with his belongings on the stone floor. Without a thought in regards to who his victims were going to be and the content of the letter, the boy started scribbling down random letters. In one of them, he congratulated Susan on her one-hundredth birthday. The other was more emotional as he addressed a more serious situation, of how the recent break-in, in their home has lowered their income.
He then proceeded to grab a random owl from their post in a (somewhat) gentle manner. One of them had light brown spots across its oval face. The other was plain white and very fat. He handed them the letters and in what he assumed to be a hoot of confusion, launched them off to their departure.
“Now,” he whispered to himself quietly, a grin growing across his face as he maniacally snorted in several cackles.
“What shall we name the poltergeist in Mrs Zynda’s house?”

It was nearing Easter, which meant Spring Holiday was quickly approaching. Hogwarts had been quite the enjoyable experience so far, although Seul longed to return home. She did still miss her parents, even if they bombarded her with letters and gifts every now and then. She’d receive regular shipments of quality ink and parchment, and even sometimes galleons to spend freely. Perhaps this was one of the perks of being high-class. It had been roughly two weeks since she last wrote back to her family, thus today she decided to pay the Owlery a visit. Her letter was rather short, considering that it wasn’t long until she would see her parents again, though it felt appropriate to send a brief update on how she is doing.
The commute to the Owlery was no simple walk, in fact, the girl’s risible reason behind not visiting the Owlery was due to the exasperating climb up the stairs. Seul already had to clamber up to the Ravenclaw tower everyday, and frankly, her frail eleven year old body cannot handle so much exercise. The Owlery was quite the disarray, with the straw floor littered with owl pellets and regurgitated remains of mice. The circular stone room was rather windy and cold, though Seul enjoyed the intermittent breeze. She began searching for her family owl, a plump white bird named Sebas. Sebas had been with the An family for 8 years starting from birth, making him both loyal and a close friend of Seul’s.
The Owlery was usually empty most of the times Seul visited, but this time she spotted a dark haired boy standing near a couple of owls. He was quite the odd character, cackling to himself. Surely he was up to no good. Curious, the girl slowly approached the boy, holding her breath and carefully placing her feet as to not draw attention. The boy had all sorts of parchment scattered around him… and he was handing a letter to Sebas?
Sebas let out a shriek of relief as he flew out of his nest and towards Seul. The girl extended her arm as a landing platform and let out an irritated sigh. “Up to no good I suppose?” Her eyes narrowed and she tightened her jaw. What did this boy think he was doing, messing with her owl? She stood there silently awaiting the boy’s response.

If there was one thing Euphaustus loathed with a tremendous passion - was getting interrupted. Be it from a simple encounter to his plans dissolving into failure by getting caught. This was far from what he had planned. Assumptions were more obvious than crystal clear water, when the owl he was just about to send off, turned back and flew towards the same person who had just walked on Euphaustus breaking the rules. She must have been the owl’s owner.
“How very wise of you.” The boy replied, with a cocky tone, yet, unable to stare back into the girl’s eyes, and instead proceeded to give her the side of his face.
“That one happens to be yours, I suppose?” The necessity of pointing his finger at the same exact owl that screeched its way off to its owner was just as useless as the question. A couple of nerve-wracked giggles followed. Euphaustus had never ever been caught red-handed. If he ever did, he just forgot. He hoped to eventually shrug this accidental encounter soon as well.
“I wasn’t planning anything too dangerous or uh…” unable to find the right words only made the situation more suspicious than it already was, but at the very least, he was (partially) saying the truth. There was no danger in sending an owl off to do what they were meant to do: Deliver letters.
“... crazy? I was just writing a letter to somebody,” he tucked the piece of paper and folded it away in his back pocket, the letter he had written was far from any normal message. It didn’t make any sort of sense to the point where it confused its own writer.
But the girl’s overall reaction didn’t say anything other than ‘I’m about to break every limb in your body with one wand flick.’ The Hufflepuff was scared - and usually, it was him scaring others, he just used a very different method, most of the time by making spooky noises or screaming at the top of his lungs whenever the clock hit midnight and everyone was asleep.

“You were just writing letters to someone? I doubt it.” Seul responded with a staring intensity in her black pupils. “You mischievous brats sure do seem to like to cause trouble, don’t you?” As she said that, her gaze caught the boy furtively stuffing a piece of paper back into his pocket. With a sigh, the girl continued with an accusatory tone while pointing towards the boy’s back pocket, “If you truly are innocent, show me what you wrote in that letter.”
At that moment, Sebas let out quite the adorable little hoot as he climbed up to Seul’s shoulder and started picking on her hair. He had always done that as a sign of affection, despite it being slightly displeasing; nevertheless, Seul was used to it now. The owl’s fluffy feathers then brushed against her neck, causing the girl to giggle a little despite the current situation. Her aura of a cold and intense girl quickly dissipated as Sebas continually tickled her neck. “Come on Sebas! I know you are happy to see me!” She chuckled with a now lighthearted tone as she stroked the owl’s back trying to calm him down.
It was true that Seul had changed a lot since the beginning of the year. She came into the year hoping the seven years will move by quickly, but in reality, some people she met really opened her eyes outside of her isolated pure-blood mindset. Of course she is still actively trying to maintain her images as an elite pure-blood, though her heart unknowingly gradually became warmer.
Almost forgetting that the mysterious boy was in front of her watching this whole fiasco, Seul caught her self and immediately tried to switched back to a serious and accusatory facade, though it was obvious that the ambience had become less intense. She cleared her throat and folded her arms. “So? What are you waiting for? Show me that letter you were planning to send.”

Sorry for the late reply, I forgot that I didn't respond to this. I was previously planning to make Seul rip Euphaustus's guts out, but then I realized that I need to make my character develop consistent lol, so I decided on a more friendly approach now. @Euphaustus Boppity
