A Sorting Mistake Finished

Kyden  had struggled severely with being sorted into Slytherin since the sorting ceremony. He knew everybody was sorted into the house they were in for some reason but he just KNEW that this time the sorting hat had to have screwed up in some way. Even others had told him he didn't act like he belonged in Slytherin. Kyden sat down and started to write a letter to the Headmaster.

"Dear Headmaster,

You may not know who I am as I know that there are several hundred students here at Hogwarts. My name is Kyden Z. Goodlow and I am a first year student. I was just sorted into Slytherin not to long ago. I am writing to you because I am concerned that this was some type of mistake. I understand that everybody say that everyone is sorted into their house for some reason nobody really knows why or how. However I am not the only one who seems to have noticed this mistake. I have had several other fellow Slytherins tell me I am to nice and just don't fit the bill of being a Slytherin. Some have told me they would put me in Gryffindor. Sir, I honestly don't know where I belong but I truly and honestly believe that I do not belong in Slytherin. I know this is not normally allowed but I beg of you to please let me try on the Sorting Hat one more time to see if a mistake was made or if I truly for some odd reason belong in Slytherin. I honestly feel that me staying in Slytherin could be detrimental to my studies here at Hogwarts. If I do indeed belong in Slytherin for some odd reason then I will accept that. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and I hope that you will consider my request. Thank you for considering.

Kyden Z Goodlow."

He wasn't sure if anything would become of this letter but he couldn't shake that feeling that some how he was truly and 100 % in the wrong house. He sealed the envelope and sent the letter on its way to the headmaster.

Kendra was strolling around carelessly like she would do every now and then when she got the chance. Passing outside the Gargoyle corridor she almost didn' even pay attention and was about to continue on her way when she realised she had seen something from the corner of her eye. She turned around taking a few steps back where she had just come from. Carefully peaking around the corner she saw Kyden writing a letter and sending it to the Headmaster.

She watched him carry out this task for quite some time in a manner that could be considered as creepy by most people. She could get creepy and awkward sometimes and she tried her best not to, but so many years almost isolated could not be simply erased after only spending a few weeks of her new life in Hogwarts. Truth was, she was very curious to understand everything that she could lay her eyes upon without actually being a part of it.

She observed Kyden, he seemed desperate while writing this leter to the Headmaster. What is this about? she wondered. She thought about it for a while. The Headmaster... What can the Headmaster help a student with that no other teacher can...

Then it hit her. How different he was than most of the other Slytherins... How she had mistaken him for a Gryffindor on their first encounter...

She couldn't help but feel sad. Very sad. "So that's how it is... good people don't like Slytherin... they hate us..." she thought. Her whole life she had watched her parents discriminating pure-bloods from everyone else, and here she was feeling it happen all over again... discrimination... prejudice... Then again, couldn't Slytherin make someone like Kyden feel welcome? Truth be told, no wonder he felt that way.

She stayed there in silence, lost in her thoughts, unsure whether she ought to approach him or not.

He sat there for a minute thinking. He wasn't really sure what he wanted to come of his letter. Truthfully he was not sure if he even wanted to leave Slytherin. He sighed and stayed there thinking. It was hard to explain he just knew that he did not fit in there. Most of the Slytherin's were just so mean. However that one girl was really nice. What was her name again? Kayla? Kylie? KENDRA!!! That was it. He really liked her that was somebody he could see himself partnering with. That other girl though what was her name? He knew it started with a Q. She was really scary. What she did to him in Flying class was seriously unfair. He turned around to leave and saw Kendra. "Hi!" He noticed her face and quickly realized that she saw and understood what he was doing. Suddenly he felt bad. "Look its nothing against you. Actually I really like you. It's just I do not feel like I belong you know! I mean you know what Quinn did to me." QUINN  that was her name. "I just I really feel like the Sorting Hat made a mistake. Maybe it's loosing its magic. It's really old after all."

Kendra felt a little relieved that Kyden had noticed her first. Thank god he didn't freak out about her  innocent stalking. She smiled as he greeted her.

"Hello there..." she said sadness showing in her voice.

She allowed him a few seconds to realise her thoughts and then she listened to him justifying his actions. "I really like you." he said. How strange it sounded. It was the first time someone had admitted they enjoyed her company. She felt a warm feeling deep in her chest and she smiled, this time brightly.
His feelings about Slytherin were not without a reason, just like she expected. Then she listened to him talk about Quinn. His statement left her a little confused.

"But I thought you applied to be a part of CROWN." she said frowning. She looked down remembering the rules of the group she was a part of herself.  To converse extensively with members of so-called CROWN, unless specifically for espionage and subterfuge, is explicitly forbidden. "I thought you were a member now." she spoke again. Sylvia would kill her if that was true. But still, he seemed to be rather opposed to the whole CROWN thing. She patiently awaited for his answer.

"Well see I signed up for CROWN before I knew what it was. I just want help becoming an amazing Quidditch Player and playing in the World Cup. The true reason I joined was I thought the people in CROWN would be able to help me find out what happened to my parents." He said the last sentence and looked down feeling sad. He really hated his talking about his parents. He just wanted to know if they were dead or if they just did not care about him.

"Anyways all I did was right my name on the paper. I haven't gone to meetings and after what she did to me in Flying I don't think I will. Whether she wanted to see if I was any good or what she made me hurt my ankle. Look I just really want to be liked here that's all. I am so scared people are going to hate me and it's going to be like the Orphanage all over again."

He looked up at her. He had never shared that much with anyone he always tried to act like he was a tough kid even if he was a scrawny little thing but truth be told he was a scared little boy. Being at Hogwarts away from the only home he had ever known scared him anymore. He looked up at her and smiled. He really liked being around her. She was extremely beautiful and very nice.

"If I hurt your feelings by sending the Headmaster that letter well then I am very sorry. Besides I don't think anything will be done."

Kendra listened carefully to his response feeling a burden being lifted with every word he spoke. She frowned hearing about his parents and the Orphanage and looked straight into his eyes.

"Nobody is going to hate you Kyden, you shouldn't worry about that! You are so sweet and kind and friendly, there is no reason for someone to hate you, I know for a fact I don't." she said honesty showing in her expression. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and looked down. "You do have a point about Slytherin though, it hurt me to think about it at first but then I realised how it must all seem to you. Anyways, you should know, Slytherin needs more people like you." she said looking at him with a small smile on her lips. "Thanks for telling me all this, you know you can trust me... I feel like I can trust you too."

Having someone open up to her like that made Kendra feel important, that she mattered, that she could actually do some good out there. Kyden had been the first to make her feel that way and she thanked him for that. She hoped that in the future she would get a chance to open up herself, which would a big step she really had to make.

Elia wondered what the headmaster would say to her switching Houses. It wasn't common, but she had heard some people could be switched if they had a good enough reason.
Elia heard hushed voices, and she fell back.

She looked around the corner and saw 2 kids talking to each other. Elia sat hidden in the corner and waited for the kids to leave. But they didn't. Elia rummaged through her bag and picked out a piece of paper to write on.

She scribbled her explanation. Simply put she wrote about her family and their history in Ravenclaw. Elia attempted to be as quiet as she could, because those other kids, which where also Slytherin, where within ear shot. Elia had heard, that the Headmaster was kind and thoughtful but she hadn't met him yet. Hopefully, he would allow her to switch.

Grabbing another piece of parchment, she started to doodle. In all honesty, she wishes she had her Violin, but it was in the dorm. She decided to go during lunch and practice.

She doodled for about 20 more minutes, before deciding that enough was enough and that she would just owl the letter to the Headmaster. Quietly she tried to pack her back up and sneak away. But as she was getting up, her bag spilled and made a huge mess.

"Oh No!" she cried.

She shed her cloak to mop up her ink. The books barely escaped an inky death.

Kyden heard a girl shrieked and whirled around. He rushed over to help her. Grabbing her books out of the way while she used her cloak to sop up the spilled ink. Kyden took of his backpack and tossed her an extra cloak to use. After the bathroom incident with the 2 Slytherin boys he always carried an extra.

"Here use this it will help get whats left." He smiled at her knowing she had heard their conversation. He could only hope she wanted to be switched to. Kyden thought he would be sorted to Gryffindor but now he knew his father had been in Hufflepuff. He also felt like he belonged more with  Ravenclaw. It was all so confusing really. However he knew one thing for certain and that one thing was he did NOT belong in Slytherin.

He looked at the girl sizing her up. Once again he was quite a bit smaller than her. He smiled at her again and spoke. "You okay? You look a bit shook up. Can I help you care your stuff back to the common room or wherever else it was you were going? I wouldn't mind. Really." He stood there with her books in his hand waiting for an answer. "What did you want to see the headmaster for anyway?"

The boy had offered to help her. He was also staring at her intently as if he was trying t figure her out.

"Yes...yes please...Thanks..." Elia said shakily, covered in ink, and embarrassedly. The boy was smiling at her kindly. Elia bent down and attempted to finish cleaning up. She packed her books away and looked around frantically for anything. Her wand had rolled away, books where in her bag, her ink bottle was empty, quills where ruffled, and her cloak?

Ruined and Inky.

Elia mustered up what little courage she had and cleared her throat. She spoke in a soft voice.

"I...I don't sup..suppose if...you...you know if the... the head...headmaster is in?" She asked. This was silly of her. She should be on her knees apologizing for ruining the boys cloak and for interrupting his chat. "I've got....got...got to give him...this." She said holding out the letter she had written. She glanced at her hand, and realized she had shown him her doodles. She made a small 'eep' and shot it back in her bag to retrieve the other piece of parchment.

She glanced at the paper before showing to him, thankful that it was the right one. They where other Slytherin children. Why was she so afraid of them?

It was probably because she was a coward and could barely talk to herself. Let alone people. Elia took her hand back and shifted uncomfortably.

"Um...Nevermind...I don't... need to... to..to give it to him." She mumbled under her breath. "Thank...thank you... for your cloak." She said.

"If your asking to get your house changed don't bother it didn't work for me. Anyway I am almost positive that nobody is in the office. At least if they were they didn't answer the door for me. As for the cloak don't worry about it really. I have plenty of them. Don't be so nervous. I don't bite. At least not very hard anyway." Kyden winked.

He looked at the girl. He could tell she was confused on how a Slytherin could be so nice. He sighed. He knew he didn't belong and honestly he couldn't figure out why he was in Slytherin. Yeah he knew the Sorting Hat makes no mistakes but maybe just maybe it did. Kyden couldn't figure out how something could be so perfect to never make a mistake.

"Umm you can keep the cloak," Kyden joked trying to make the girl smile, "By the way your doodles are pretty good." He smiled at the girl again. He saw her wand had rolled away so he took the few steps to grab it and handed it to her. "I am pretty sure you would be in hot water if you lost this. It's kind of important."

Kyden stood there not sure what to do or say now. He just looked at the girl and smiled again.
