'The crows' curse on you Quinn.' It seemed the individual in question was cursing themselves at the moment. In an abandoned and honestly dilapidated toilet room of all places. "I swear on old man Donivan's donuts that the next time I see of a two bit flee bitten goat that no mother would want. Ah'll ring his feckin head off!!" They exclaimed rather angrily at that.

As they came into view of the dirty, partially broken, and dingy mirror two things were apparent...er three things. The first were very striking sharp but large emerald blue eyes, accompanied by auburn red wavy/curly hair that was growing out from a large wavy fringe. Lastly was the sea of freckles that covered their face. It was a stark contrast from his normal fiery orange color.

As they quickly came into view it had turned out it was in fact Quinn Healy of all people. The normally happy go lucky, ever curious ginger with a one of a kind personality. With a loud plop they set down their satchel and pulled out some sort of hair cream, foundation and concealer, some other minor make up, and a brush and comb.

Over the past months thanks to the help of his friends and finally talking seriously with his parents. Quinn had dealt with some things...not in the best of ways but he had dealt with them never the less. Like for example he confronted Donnigan, he had even started working out with the help of his granda's encouragement to look less scrawny and a bit more...well as close to intimidating as the normally harmless looking ginger could look. Well when he did finally get Donnigan alone again. The eijit didn't apologize for his behavior and instead just tried to bully him again. Needless to say Quinn snapped and Donnigan stopped bothering him after that...end of story.

His parents were not happy with him, though his granda was elated saying 'it was about time someone knocked some sense into that young fool.' This made Quinn proud and he liked the way it felt and the confidence his new found strength gave him. He no longer thought a situation to death before acting. He liked acting more reckless which in turn reinvigorated his curious bug. However the lasting effects of what Donnigan had done to Quinn were still there. Like how self concious he was about his freckles.

If he even thought someone was gonna say something bad about them it pissed him off and he was starting to hate looking at them. He didn't like the fact that despite dealing with Donnigan he still had some form of control over Quinn which is why at this very moment as he began to do his makeup completely oblivious to anyone else entering. He was cursing to himself and essentially venting.

The one good side is that thanks to all his reckless exploring, and fights that he had gotten himself into he had a tougher skin...literally. There were callouses on his knuckles and hands and his face looked a bit rougher for where while still retaining that usual Healy charm. He looked a bit more ruggish now despite his very young age.

But even with all his new baggage and slight personality change he was still willing to give people the benefit of the doubt and always here them out. What was that saying again? 'Treat people the way you wanted to be treated.' Well he wasn't going to change that part of himself for anyone...ever.

Technical Difficulties PV Mari Haynes
By some kind of fate, Mari had been quite fortunate to rarely have anyone interrupt her in the Porcelain Palace. The entire month of April, her only companion had been her tears, but May had led to an excess of socializing. Mari missed the days when she could enjoy slightly soggy turkey sandwiches in peace, without fear that some idiot Slytherin would try to curse her even though it had been she who had invaded Mari's personal space.

Today, unfortunately, was no different. The year was almost over, Mari was stressed about those exams that she didn't even feel like she should be taking in the first place, and her duties as the fifth prefect of Hufflepuff had been stressful. She needed a break, needed a moment to just be herself without worrying about all the ways she needed to live up to the roles of student and prefect even though she already had her own issues to worry about. A trip to the Porcelain Palace was the only solution.

Tears already pooled in her eyes, though she was hoping to make it to the PP before they actually erupted from their ducts. She crossed the threshold just as the first began to fall, then the second; it was at the third, however, when she looked up and noticed that someone was in her Palace.

The sight that was before her was quite strange; Mari truly did not know if she was supposed to be angry that the boy was there, scared because of his rough appearance, or confused because...he was putting on makeup? What in the world had she gotten herself into?

Option two seemed safest, she deduced as she gazed down to the calloused hands. Choi and Riddle had been fought for their invasion of the Porcelain Palace before, but this kid could beat her up. Choi and Riddle were just scrawny, useless kids who needed to be set in their place. She hadn't a fear when she had cast the dancing leg curse on Riddle because she knew that they weren't large enough to cause real harm, even if Mari herself was the height of a 9-year-old.

She had chosen option two, but she had not expected the words to fall out of her mouth so easily: "Are you...going to hurt me?" The tears increased in speed and size as she looked downward, remembering how she had told herself that she would always fight from now on and this was quite the opposite of fighting, looking as pitifully sad as she did. But she told herself - and it was true - he hadn't attacked yet, there was no reason to fight just yet.

With those rough features though, she had a deep suspicion that fighting would be just around the corner. All that was left to wonder is if this boy preferred wand or fist.

He was snapped out of his thoughts by words that were seeming to become the norm for him. It caused him to freeze and his eyes widened as he was in the middle of applying foundation. He was still as stone for a brief moment before his cheeks flared bright red. 'Oh Gods... Shite... Feck someone's actually here this early...and seen ma face......... Wait why is she cr-' He quickly put down the brush foundation not even down and his scowling expression suddenly dropped to that of confusion mixed with concern. "Why in the gods are ye crying and why the hell would ah hurt ya!?" He asked surprised, embarrassed and confused. He started to walk closer to her some of his numerous dark freckles now covered by foundation.

What the hell did Quinn get himself into. Like seriously was quiet time too much to ask and now here's a bloody and admittedly small first year crying and asking if he was gonna hurt her. Why does everyone keep asking that!? He sighed aggravated at his own thoughts and then kneeled down on one knee. "So why ya crying like a wee small babe huh? An upper year give ya trouble or is it personal? It's usually one of the two in my experience." He said matter of factly trying to calm her down and also look hopefully less menacing. It's when he then cracked a small smile still red as could be however. " And uh...I bet ye have questions...probably lots of questions too." He laughed uncomfortably.

There was one thing this boy clearly did not know and it was that Mari Haynes, average at most everything, was actually quite awful at interpreting accents. Her only Slytherin friend, Dan/Palmer (she had yet to figure out which was his first name, which was his last) had a thick accent himself, which led to Mari's interpretation that his initiation into the Slytherin house involved the Slytherins pooping in his shoe. Needless to say, that was not what happened, and that was the day that Mari realized that accents were quite simply not her thing.

He said a lot of words, unfortunately, and he said then quickly, while he just as fast put the foundation brush down. Mari eyed it suspiciously as he talked, wondering just what in the world he was doing. Not that she'd understand, probably, because...accents.

"Um," Mari murmured tentatively as she finally made eye contact with the boy instead of his brush. "I...you..."

She didn't really know what to say, but she was looking at his half-made up face, so though she wanted to say that he looked rugged and albeit a bit scary, he could have easily interpreted that as her commenting on his make up choices. He seemed to have some comments on her as well, though, as he said something about "crying" and what sounded like an upper year or personnel problems. Mari looked at him, confused. Did he know she was 12 and was in charge of no one? She was on the newspaper, though, so perhaps that was what he had met.

"Um," yet again, she didn't know what to say, tears still streaming down her face as if they were racing to splat on the floor. She needed to say something, anything or else it felt possible that the old, cowardly Mari was returning. It didn't matter what she said, so long as she said it. "I'm just a little stressed about exams, is all. I just became a prefect and the stress is really getting to me, and I was hoping that the Headmaster would cancel my exams because this year has been something but he hasn't reached out to me yet and I'm a little concerned he forgot and how am I supposed to be a good influence to the other students when all I want to do is hang out here and eat a turkey sandwich or two or three?"

Old Mari, timid Mari, had not entirely emerged, but her rambling days when she was nervous - and boy, did this weird boy make her nervous - seemed to have come back. She bit her tongue to be able to focus on something else besides her unease and figured she'd ask the question, since the boy prompted it: "What are you doing, exactly?"

He raised a curious brow a her in response to the words she was saying, the not so subtle looks she was giving, and well the question she asked. He paused for a long minute to prepare himself and took a few deep breathes it had been a little while since he needed to accomadate for his very thick accent. But he didn't need the extra annoyance. "Is this better for you? Can you understand me clearly now?" He waited all of three seconds before continuing. "Good because I have some questions before I tell a complete stranger what I do. If you are a new prefect how come I didn't hear an announcement or hear it from Amadea. Or even one of the other prefects I know?" He asked. He was honestly curious it had been awhile since he talked to Amadea but he definitely talked to Alexx recently and Mandee as well. Plus he could always get information from puck later. The girl had a way with information he quite respected. But Mari didn't need to know that. His face still held an in nterested expression. Quinn could be wrong but he found it best just in case he was right to keep a consistent expression and see what happens.

"And If you thought Lear. Headmaster Lear of all people would cancel your exams then you are even more delusional or misinformed then you him less then I first thought." He laughed a bit but it was in a playful non judging way. Though it could still be seen as an insult because of the wording.

"Anyway you tell me your reasons and I'll tell you why such an irresistibly charming lad is putting on makeup in an abandoned bathroom. Sound like a fair deal? Good cause it wasn't really a choice." He chuckled softly joking again.

Mari looked confusedly at him but knew that Professor Browne knew that she was truly a prefect, so didn't mind. "I dunno..." she began with a murmur.

Browne hadn't yet given her a task, though he had whispered in her ear as if he was going to. Was it all really a joke? Had she just misunderstood, and Browne had actually just whispered that she was dumb and didn't deserve to be in Hufflepuff and she was the worst prefect they had ever had? Suddenly, Mari's vision was blurring as she rotated looking from boy to ground. This was humiliating.

Her eyes felt like a leaky faucet, ebbing and flowing tears without control. Mari didn't know how to even find the words that described her confusion. Was the Porcelain Palace all a lie, too? What was reality anymore?

She was thrown off-kilter, but as she looked around at the Porcelain Palace mid sob, it gave her strength even as the boy continued to insult her sound reasoning. Mari knew that the Headmaster had intended on canceling her exams, he just hadn't gotten around to it. And if he never did? She was a prefect, one who deserved her role more than any of these other innocent kids. Mari Haynes would prove to Solomon Lear that she was worthy and would be brave enough to stand up to that devil that was exams.

Water should squelch fire, but in this instance, both were working simultaneously. The anger that had mounted allowed Mari to glare directly into the boy's blue eyes, but sadness distracted her so that she occasionally glanced at the freckles that splattered his face. It really was quite weird that he was trying to cover them; the foundation spots almost distracted her further, but then Mari remembered her goal.

"Your attitude is unwelcomed," she began with a sigh. He probably didn't know, she could forgive him, but he'd know she was irate. "Look, I don't know why the other prefects don't know, but I am one, I swear. Furthermore, I don't know why the headmaster hasn't contacted me yet, but I am positive he will. You don't even know." She scoffed as she said the last sentence, frustrated.

"It isn't a choice for you to decide, anyway," she continued, anger and tears mounting. Why was he here, why was he ruining her dream of being the fifth Hufflepuff prefect who everyone realized led a difficult life and persevered, who basically owned the Porcelain Palace that they now spoke in? "this is my palace, and I have more power over you, as prefect. These aren't abandoned toilets; if you paid attention you'd see that. But you're too idiotic, focusing on looking cute to notice. So now that we've settled that, it's on you. Explain."

As she said these words, Mari snapped her fingers. She then raised her arm to wave it to show off the bathroom. It would look pretty much the same, of course. But to Mari, it looked glorious.

Quinn was by no means a small child, many considered him a freak. Due to his size, but mainly his age and usual demeanor. See he could be the nicest person in the room when he wanted to be but he had one terrible flaw that so far he managed to keep well in check. That flaw was his terrible temper, something Mari just had to incite with her insensitive comments. "Looking...cute? You think ah do this to look cute?" His eye twitched and freckled face slowly grew red, with boiling anger.

But Quinn could be a classy fellow when he wanted to be. It's why he had the sense to curb his anger just a wee bit. Just enough to not lash out and break the mirror behind him. What do ye know aboot me hm? Did eet ever cross ya wee mind that maybe ah do this for other reasons? No? Well what else should ah expect from someone like you." Quinn bawled his fists, and they shook from the sheer strength he put into it. He glared daggers, at the presumptuous young Huffle. But Quinn knew better he needed to maintain control. He knew full well what would happen if he didn't. Thankfully his fear seemed to stay off his almost unstoppable and boiling anger, by a hairs breathe.

"Ah'm gonna let that comment slide...but say that again and ah promise...no guarantee that ah won't be held responsible for my next actions." It was a threat through and through. He was struggling to keep his anger in check but he managed it and continued it forth. "Now then ah'm gonna ensure ye don't make such a senseless comment again. Ah was bullied and that's all you need to know. It should be plainly obvious why ah wear make up now."

When the boy grew red with anger, Mari began to tremble. It was weird how sometimes one could be so preoccupied that they missed some things. In this case, as she watched the boy's face match his hair color, Mari realized that he was...big. Far bigger than the average pre-teen should be, and especially far bigger than Mari, who much more resembled a nine-year-old than a child of twelve.

It was one of the few times since she had been traumatized beyond repair that she showed a weakness that still was at the core of her essence: fear. Amazingly, this was not the first time that the boy had brought such an emotion out of her. "I-" Mari began slowly, stammering her words, "Then why do you do it, then?"

The glare made her tremble further, and for a brief moment, Mari considered bolting. It was only curiosity that kept her glued to the bathroom floor, a curiosity that was satisfied only a few moments sooner, as the scary Hufflepuff boy revealed that he had been bullied.

Mari took in his face once more as she craned her neck upward to get as good of a look as possible. Each smudge told a story, a story that she did not know but wondered nonetheless. It was a curiosity that she likely would never rectify, for how could anyone find the courage or power to bully someone who was that big? If Mari tried to hurt him, she knew that she would have barely made a dent. There was a reason why she used her words as ammunition.

With a small squeak, Mari added gently, "I...I wasn't bullied, but I've been hurt too. Does the make up make it better?"

She knew, as prefect, that she was supposed to hold a position of authority, continually keep a guard of professionalism against other students, and never show vulnerability. Yet there was something about this boy that made her wonder if perhaps he had the answers she was seeking, even before all these terrible things had happened to her.

The anger started to boil out of him at a slow but steady pace. The color of his face gradually regaining its fair complexion, instead of the tomato sauce it was earlier. "...Yes" He netted his brows together troubled. It would be so easy to flip on the girl, to vent out all of his anger onto her. At least he felt she deserved it, and she gave him a convenient target.

In truth he thought about it for a long moment. Longer then he ever cared to admit. Hence the long uncomfortable pause before he answered her. "I bet you're thinking how someone as big as me gets bullied?" He started to laugh, but it was a slow pained laugh. Followed by a heavy sigh, "Well since ye're here rudy, could you help me with this dumb make up?" He asked. "I'll answer your questions." While seeming random, internally he had been fighting on how to react and handle her.

In the end he felt too tired to tear her apart. He was feeling too sad, and anxious. He decided to throw himself a pity party. Besides...something about him and her words told him that she was hurting just as bad as he...maybe even worse?

It was weird, how that, though normally Mari made people uncomfortable, she felt like there were actually...good feelings occurring between the two right now? It was surprising, but Mari would take it. This boy was the first person who seemed to even slightly understand what she was going through. Though...she wasn't putting makeup on her face right now.

"Sure," she murmured, though Mari had, quite honestly, never used makeup in her life. "Um...just tell me what to do?" She tried reaching for the brush from his hand, because at least she had seen him try to use it. All the other items looked like things from outer space to her.

The boy looked tired, and Mari understood; she took in his eyes and nodded gently at him. Long ago, she had lost the ability to sleep, stirring fitfully throughout the night. Exhaustion tried to be a greater comfort to Mari than her own blankets.

He said she could ask him questions, but she did not know where to begin. As she waited for instruction, though, the awkwardness that she had suppressed since the events with Kaegen and the Blossom Ball drifted to the surface. Something. She had to say something. So, without a second thought, she blurted: "What happened, then? Why...why are you putting this on your face?"

Mari half-expected the boy to rage at her, even though he had said she could ask any questions. He was large; he could crush her in an instant. But if he did, it wouldn't damage her any more than she was damaged already. She was past the point of no return.
