The quest begins OPEN

PLEASE READ:
There is no turn order. However, please wait one full day before you post again. This means that if you post on monday, please do not post again until wednesday. So one day inbetween the day you posted, and the day you post again, to allow for people to have time to reply. I'm not adding a turn order because if one of us has to go, it would kill the thread, and that's not fun. Also, as it's an open thread, we could hardly regulate who goes when.

Simple, really. Make a bomb. That wasn’t too hard, was it? But he wasn’t dumb. Shockwave rarely killed. He had done his research prior and knew what it was he really needed. He needed shrapnel. And luckily, shrapnel was actually pretty easy to come by. So many students broke teapots in random huzzahs and general rowdyness, he assumed the house elves just didn’t care where they went. Or maybe they did care but didn’t know where he was. Regardless, he had blocked off the spout, filled the pot about halfway with water and triple sealed the lid. Presto. All he had to do was heat it up to the point where the pressure inside was too great for the porcelain to handle and boom. Instant explosion. A perfect distraction.

But he knew that something like this needed to be tested first. And so here he was, in the abandoned toilets with a teapot in one of the bowls, preparing to cast incendio. He had even put a few random pieces of broken glass inside, just to see if it would really work. And to top it all off, a exploding snap card. There was really no way this was going to fail, but he had to see before he used it, not after. Better safe then sorry.

“Incendio”

A bright flame lit up the toilet, and only a little bit later, there was a loud BANG followed by a crash of glass. He had more bombs, of different makes and models. Never let it be said that Kaegen was unimaginative. But he was certainly proud of how this one had turned out. He gingerly reached out long, dirty fingers to pluck out a shard that had gotten him in the forehead, and a trickle of blood ran down his face.

He didn’t know why, but it was very funny. He didn’t know what made it funny, or why he wanted to laugh, but laugh he did. Sleep deprived eyes watering a bit in the corners as his laugh came out as a hissing, hoarse, coughing mess. His eyes were wild in more than one sense of the word, pupils dancing about like live things, amorphous puddles of ink that had a life of their own. A drop of his blood hit the floor, followed by a second, and a third, but he didn’t care. He was tired, he was feeling rather sick, and he was scared. Always scared. And that was so, so funny to him for reasons beyond his current comprehension.

But he was getting stronger, smarter. He was getting better and this proved it. He was going to kill them, kill every last one. He had already started. He had bruised thursday, he had cut the professor’s cheek and gotten away. He had challenged the monsters and had started to get his footing. He noticed himself getting a little bit dizzy, but that was normal. It happened, more and more frequently as the days wore on. It would pass, and leave behind beautiful clarity of mind.

He was going to live, and his enemies would be nothing more than dust. The dust and blood of fallen foes that no one remembers. They would cease to be. They would be dead, and he would laugh again in a world where death no longer haunted him.

Explosions have a certain sound to them, unlike the controlled fire of a gunshot or the far away dream of fireworks. There’s a sound of broken glass and bending metal, a hiss of fire shortly before the explosion begins, and an echo that you can feel in your soul.

So when Elena was walking past the abandoned bathrooms at exactly the right, or wrong time depending on how you view these things. Hearing an explosion had made her almost hit the floor in surprise and terror. Only once before had the girl heard that sound, and terror filled her heart for a few moments, but the familiar stone walls stabilised the spiral before it even began.

Elena stared at the door, wondering who or what had made that explosion. Curiousity was a trait best used in moderation, luckily for Elena curiousity was outweighed by the fact an explosion had just occured. Unluckily Elena also had this pesky little thing called valour, and this was not something she was graced with moderation in, so the girl opened the door and almost ran in, ready to save whatever idiotic student had blown themselves up with a potion gone wrong.

Instead of some shocked fifth year there was a kid Elena had only ever seen once before, much earlier than anything else. Kae... gen? Kaegen, yes that was it, he thought she was going to ambush him or something. He didn’t seem to care about a very bad looking head wound he was sporting, or the broken glass spread out around him like he was sitting on a dark iridescent throne. This was, strange, yes strange but due to innate distrust of prefects, they made Aurelia one after all, Elena figured she could deal with this, or run. A fast runner was an alive runner, and Elena was still alive.

“I heard an explosion. Are you okay?” Elena’s eyes held concern, and a little bit of something else, it wasn’t fear, more caution. Poor kid looked like he’d gotten a concussion, laughing like that.

I'm weak my love.

 Earlier ...
Donny was walking through the cold, stony halls of Hogwarts when he thought about going into the abandoned toilets to study last minute for his defense against the dark arts class. He walked through the corridors, quickly trying to avoid any prefects seeing him. He scattered up the stairs, almost stumbling along as the stairs switched positions at the top were he stood, breathing hard. He reached the abandoned toilets, and as he walked there was a huge "Boom!" and he fell to the floor as a bathroom stall flew open, emitting pieces of glass porcelain, cutting him in his head and his arms. "Ahgrh!" he screamed, looking up at a boy, a boy who seemed very oddly happy with himself as he looked down at Donny, bleeding out, and unable to see. There was also a girl with blue hair who seemed considerably worried and confused but hadn't noticed him sprawled on the floor yet for what he could see. He looked for his glasses his hands flailing around with pain, mopping the blood from beneath him coldly. He was very frightened! He felt his head tentatively, rubbing his fingers over the knots, and bumps on his scalp.  What was the objective of this odd, seemingly evil kid who seemed only his age...

If the explosion wasn’t enough to tell Rowan something was up, the wheezing laugh that followed definitely did the job.

Glass and whatever the hell else was on these floors crunched under the wheels of his wheelchair as he rolled into the room. His eyes went first to the male in the middle of the room. Clearly unstable, with the blood coming from his forehead, and the laugh from his lips. His mind wandered for just a moment then. Solutions.

He had a sleep draught in his bag. For his own insomnia, usually, however maybe this time for the male infront of him. Hand him over to the hospital ward, maybe.

“Hello there, crazy.”

He said in a playful tone. The type you would use with an old friend.

Rowan rolled closer, spotting the remains of the bomb in the stall. He did not know the use for this, but he didn’t care. It was dangerous.

Though oddly, he seemed to have no emotion accept amusement on his pale face. It was true. He wanted to laugh. This child was making... bombs. So small but dangerous. Like himself almost. Accept he was more careful than to get caught.

This child had the look of someone who had no f*cks left to give. Pure unhinged emotion.

“Would you like help with that cut, or are you content with getting blood in your eye?”

He pulled the small box of bandages out of his satchel, that was hanging over the back of his chair. Held it out for him to see.

Rowan almost treated him like a broken animal, he realised. Barganing to see if it would let him near.

A girl walked in then though. Asking if the male was okay. Great. More of a crowd. This would have been easier with one person, but he was too slow. Or she too fast.

Only then did he see the male lying on the floor. More cuts than the one standing in front of him. He needed to get to him first. But first, deal with the danger infront of him.

Often lying, but not to you.

Aurelia was having quite a normal day, free of fuss and drama. They had demolished the gryffgazette so there wasn’t a need for her to be running around interviewing students, stay late up at night to complete her many articles or worry that somebody like delusional Anastasia Beckett would post something bad about her.

Despite her new position as prefect, she wasn’t a busy as she usually was in her days as a journalist. In fact it was better, she had busted a whole party the other day. About a dozen students would be receiving a detention soon. She still had yet to deal with that matter on how to get that many students into on single detention session. The last thing she wanted was chaos or to put her new position which gave her much authority at risk.

Aurelia, has finished about half her classes for the day, and was walking along the hallways. Her classes didn’t continue in session until two hours later. She had plenty of time. A normal day it was until she heard a boom, a literal boom that almost startled the sunlight out of her. From where? None other than the abandoned bathrooms, a frequent place she visited to take doses of Forgetfulness Potion which she relied heavily on in discretion. The sound, the boom, it was most likely the sounds of duelling.

However, it was far from that. There stood a too familiar people, Rowan and blue haired girl and a boy, a crazy one, Kaegen towering over a blasted toilet bowl, ceramic shards everywhere on the ground, there was a boy who she had yet to get to know, laying on the ground hurt.“What on earth is happening?” She demanded. Ignoring Elena, she walked up to the boy who was on the ground, his head bloody. It was gruesome, how was he even alive. “You need to go to the hospital wing immediately. You’re hurt.” She kneeled down, attempting to help him up. Indeed, he was hurt, very badly.

Explosions aren't something eleven year olds tend to experience outside of television and computer games. That's why Lamik Fillestar, for as stupid as it was, decided to enter the door in front of him.

Just half a minute earlier he had been busy losing himself in the immense castle - taking random turns in the hallways whenever he was bored of walking a certain direction. He had just been thinking to himself about how he was going to head back to the Gryffindor common room (if he could even FIND his way back) when the deafening boom snapped him back into attention.

Even though the boy didn't have the slightest idea where this door led, Lamik pushed into the room, a fear of excitement and dread making his heart race. The first thing he noticed when he stepped in was the blood. There was quite a lot of blood. A boy was laying on the floor, injured, while another boy was standing above him with a deep gash in his forehead, laughing like a psychopath.

The rest of his surroundings were dull reletive to the blood- shards of something on the floor, a blown up toilet, and a few other kids who Lamik would like to have thought were just as confused as he was. With the color drained from his face, the boy spoke to himself more then to anyone else.

"That's a lot of blood."

As usual, Mari was sitting in the stall in the abandoned toilets, minding her own business: that is to say, crying. She was so very tired of feeling alone. Of course, Mari did not realize that the great irony in this sentiment was that she was currently alone, perched on the seat, as if she was using the toilet, though she had clothes on. All she cared about was feeling sad.

Honestly, Mari didn't even know what the misery was specifically about today. Mum, Dad, Lucy, Grace? The few people she had met and had not seen much since? The fact that she had just received an 'E' on her History of Magic homework, but when she had told Mum in elation, she merely replied, "You can do better?" Or the fact that she just felt quite ugly today, with her hair pulled up in a messy ponytail, sleep still collected in her eyes, but too miserable to fix herself up better?

She was just sad, darn it, and accepted the fact that sadness was her dominant personality trait at the moment.

Silently emitting tears, Mari rubbed her eyes just as an explosion sounded from the other end of the stalls. Almost instantaneously, she felt a few shards of glass lodge themselves into her visible legs; she screamed. The scream, both fortunately and unfortunately, was lost amongst the chaos: a maniacal laugh, more yells, the sounds of shards of glass making music against the bathroom floor. Tears still dripping, but faster now, Mari perched herself onto the tank of the toilet as she planned her next move. She was quite glad that she had made this decision, as many people had entered the bathroom. Unable to see any of the voices' owners, she listened carefully as they rang out.

"I heard an explosion. Are you okay?"

"Hello there crazy. Would you like help with that cut, or are you content with getting blood in your eye?”

“What on earth is happening? You need to go to the hospital wing immediately. You’re hurt.”

"That's a lot of blood."

Mari replayed the words over in her head for a few minutes, concentrating on their meanings. Was that to say that someone had intentionally caused this disaster? Was the perpetrator the one who needed to go to the hospital wing or was there someone else who had been hurt, much like Mari? Furthermore, did this perpetrator have some sort of death wish? For Dumbledore's sake, I thought there was no fear for dark wizards nowadays, but clearly this kid is flat out evil to start a suicide mission in a toilet! Mari thought, a crease forming in her eyes.

She winced. The shards, one shard in particular, were stinging. She ran her fingers down her legs; amongst the stubble, she felt what seemed like hundreds of tiny pieces decorating her skin. Mari hurried and began to pull some of them out, but once she realized that she could not get the worst piece of them all out, she realized she'd have to face the ever-growing audience in the toilets. As she gently lowered herself, she emitted a moan. It hurt far more than she could imagine; as she had not broken or sprained any bones, Mari, ever the dramatic, thought this may be the worst pain she had been in.

She hobbled, wincing with each step, grimacing further when the stall door shrieked, announcing her entrance into reality. She eyed the students around her; there were far more than she realized. One student looked like a madman; this, she surmised, must be the one who started the chaos. Eyes blurring through pain and tears, she registered that one student near the entrance lied in a pool of blood. She tried to move closer to analyze his situation, but sank to the floor in pain around the mid-section of the bathroom. She forced a chuckle, looked at the other students, and muttered, "Well, guess I'll be sleeping here tonight."

Mari forced a grin. This was the kind of situation where she felt humor was easiest, so she continued, "Hullo everyone. Fancy seeing you all here. I didn't realize we were having a party, 'else I would have worn nicer robes." She waved a bloodied and waited, looking down at her cuts once more.

Smell was an odd sensation. It gave so much information, and didn’t need to be focussed. You could passively smell a hundred things as you breathed, most of them passing unnoticed. Even for the little boy, equipped as he was with a extraordinary sense of smell, even for a Dhampir, it was hard to pick out smells. Dogs could do it fine, sure. But it was most often too muddled. Too many scents of the same strength mixing together in the swirling air that passed through his nose.

But there was one smell that shone above the rest like a gloriously tempting beacon. A beacon of ecstatic delight, but also one of fear. A fear he couldn’t explain, because it smelled so good. Why would something like that cause fear? Why would the equivalent of smelling a steak made by the gods themselves cause paranoia in him? He assumed that it was just because he was afraid of most things, but at the same time he was glad that he was afraid of most things. He clung to the fear because the fear kept him living, kept him going. If he didn’t have fear, his life would be lost in short order and he knew it.

But he wasn’t feeling fear. He was feeling like laughing, and his weak voice was already shot. He didn’t have much of a voice, couldn’t really shout and if he tried it would just sound like one massive voice crack. Even when he was laughing, his voice cracked and rasped painfully. He was feeling pain that was largely unfamiliar, pain stemming from laughing. That should have been scary, but it wasn’t. It was laughable. A girl, the girl from the tree, the one with the failed ambush attempt came into the room and asked if he was alright, if he was okay. A person, a dangerous person was in the room. That was scary, but he didn’t care.

The explosion had hit some other kid as well, who was the cause of the blood smell. And the pathetic dish rag of a girl that had been crying in the toilets, also blood there. Her blood smelled a bit better, if he was being honest. A boy in a chair that had wheels on it for some insane reason rolled into the room, clearly too lazy to just get up and walk, and said the most normal thing out of all the other people there. He said hello crazy, and offered to help with the cut. What cut? He wasn’t bleeding, was he?

His raspy wheezing laugh slowed, then stopped. His eyes were more reflective than they should have been, his pupils much larger than any human’s realistically would. His pupils kept moving, like a blob, stretching farther and farther for the corners of his eyes. Why did she think he needed help? He was going to save the school, he was going to save everyone who needed saving. He was going to destroy the monsters until there weren’t any left and he was doing it for free. Because he was a good person, and he wanted others to survive with him.

”I’m okay…”

His head turned slightly to face the boy in the rolling chair. He knew there should be fear right now, he was slowly becoming surrounded. Where was the fear?

”...and I’m not crazy.”

His long fingers reached up to his forehead, the boy’s question about the cut had made him vaguely aware of the wet sensation. Maybe he had noticed, but forgotten? The fingers touched the wound, feeling about until they found the offending shard of glass. With a deft move they pulled out the shard, but otherwise he didn’t really care. He got cut all the time, his own blood was a very familiar sight.

”I don’t need bandages. I don’t need help from nameless….”

He paused before continuing, seemingly regaining a little bit of composure. Just a little.

”...I don’t need help.”

As soon as he said that some girl rushed in demanding to know what was going on. He ignored her, she didn’t matter. The boy looked around him to see a few more students, and he was shocked by what was going on. Two students had literally collapsed. He had used water pressure in a little teapot inside of a toilet bowl inside of a bathroom stall, and it had somehow stricken down two students? That was amazing. He was a genius. He was going to destroy the monsters. All of them.

He started to laugh again, this time more cough than actual recognizable laughter. He wasn’t sure why he felt the need to share. Maybe it was an instinct shared by the sleep deprived and slightly insane. Maybe he just wanted to say it out loud for his own benefit. But say it he did.

”I don’t know how many of you care, but I’m going to survive. I’m going to do more than that, I’m going to kill them. All the monsters are going to be dead and I will have been the one that did it.”

His speech was quiet, as his voice was now entirely shot, but it got even quieter towards the end as his eyes were directed down, down towards the blood. He pulled his gaze back up, still unafraid, still not quite there, not quite himself. A little voice told him he should be scared of the lack of fear, but it wasn’t strong enough. Not by a long shot.

Nameless. He was one of those. Caring for names and titles, he guessed. Or maybe they ment something different to him. Though he also denied the fact that he was crazy. Crazy people usually did that, didn’t they? He gave up on calling the male crazy. What would he call him now though?

Whatever. It wasn’t helping him in calling him crazy, so he would stop. Besides, more people simply complicated the scene. He did his best to block them out. Tuck them into their own little raindrops so it was just him and crazy.

“Rowan. My name is Rowan. Care to tell me yours, as you have such distaste for the nameless? Wouldn’t want me to think you to be one.”

The monsters. He said he was going to do more of this. Oh he was dangerous, no doubt. He believed that the students were dangerous. That they were the enemy. He laughed as the two students went down. Took pleasure in seeing them injured.

The humor still clung to his voice thankfully. He seemed to actually reply to him, because he wasn’t panicing. So keeping up that same tone would be smartest. Play along, neutralise the threat. Honestly, he was no worse than a ministry worker, which his father often invited over.

“What monsters, not crazy?”

His voice was shot. He could use that to his advantage, actually. He took the drugged water out of his bag. The taste of the sleeping draught always bothered him, so he watered it down. He held out the bottle to the boy. He may not take it but it would give him a solution to something.

He did his best not to look over at the injured children even as another fell.

Also, he really needed a name for this kid. Hopefully he would spill.

Standing there, Lamik was shocked. Afraid, sure- but above all else he was shocked. There he was: a normal boy with a normal life and a normal family thrown into a world that didn't make the slightest bit of sense. He wasn't exactly sure what to think back when he saw the sentient tree trying to smash people. All he knew is that schools weren't supposed to have such dangerous things, and with a boy who Lamik could only guess had built a bomb being allowed to learn in the same classes- heck, in the same buildings as him Lamiks regrets about coming to Hogwarts were only growing.

"I doubt the Janitors have ever cleaned up something this bad in the toilets."

A joke. It wasn't particularly good, but it was what Lamik always did when he was in trouble. A year back he had read that joking in difficult situations helped deal with emotions, and after trying it out a few times the coping mechanism had almost become an instinctive form of self defence.

When the girl collapsed on the floor Lamik had almost immediately noticed the shards of glass speckling her legs. He ran towards her, snapped out of his confusion and shock by the sudden action. Getting on his knees, the boy shook her lightly.

"Are you ok?"
