Homesick Finished

Sonya's homesickness was starting to catch up to her. She had been fine for a while, as the excitement of Hogwarts and meeting new people was enough to keep it at bay, but now she was really starting to miss home. Typically she'd be eager to talk to more people, but at the moment she just needed somewhere to be alone.

She walked down the halls of Hogwarts looking for somewhere to escape to, she passed the abandoned lavatory. This should do, Sonya thought, Nobody ever comes in here. She took a deep breath as she opened the door to reveal the, unkempt, empty lavatory. She walked in and sat on a windowsill, brushing off the dust.

She stared out the window for a few minutes, thinking of home. She missed her father and their late night talks about books. She missed New York and her aunt and cousins. Mostly she missed the familiarity of it all. Hogwarts felt completely foreign to her, although she had talked to lots of people, she had barely made any friends. She leaned up against the window and let a couple tears fall as she gazed out at the scenery. She then sighed and put her head in her hands and let herself cry, something she desperately needed after a long few days.

Rorie walked down the second-floor hallway, seething with anger after the fight she'd had with Anastasia Beckett.

"Hogwarts must be so luxurious for you, blah blah. For me it's too small, my ego feels a bit cramped," Rorie mocked, speaking in a really high tone.

"Ugh, what a load of trash," She said, disdain dripping from her sentence. Noticing a door, she opened it up, revealing a huge lavoratory in a state of disrepair. She decided to go in to cool down before she saw another person and exploded. Rorie could be really hot-headed.

She paced around the room, talking to herself.

"Just because I'm poor doesn't mean I'm not human. It seems as if Beckett thinks another way, though. Whatever, not my problem. I wonder how anyone could ever be friends with her, she's so selfish and ignorant, petty and just downright a goody-two-shoes. The stuck-up rich girl. And I'm the polar opposite of that, an immature poor kid. Just what I wanted when I came to this school, making an enemy because of contrasting financial status," She mumbled madly, sarcastically saying the last bit.

"I swear, Anastasia Beckett, I'm not going down easy. Insult me all you want, but a girl from a ghetto has a lot more experience in fighting than one that grew up in a mansion with their perfect life."

Rorie said the last bit loudly, a little louder than she would regularly speak. Turning to pace the floor again, she noticed the silhouette of a girl on the windowsill. She couldn't tell who it was in the poor light. Had she been there the whole time? Rorie was anxious to know that answer.

"Uh, hello," She said to the girl. Then she noticed the girl was crying.

Sonya heard someone enter and start ranting, the voice sounded familiar. She let out the rest of her tears and tried to dry her eyes before she noticed her tears but it seemed like a lost cause at this point. The person was ranting, something about financial statuses and someone named Anastasia Beckett. Then the girl stopped for a bit and Sonya could hear footsteps.
"Uh, Hello," the ranting girl said to her.
Sonya looked up, seeing the person's face, and smiled in relief. "Rorie," she sighed happily, glad she wouldn't have to explain her tears to a stranger, "Hello." She tried to act like her tears never happened. She loved to comfort others and talk to them, but when it came to other people seeing her emotions, other than happy, she wasn't too great at opening up. She often tries to cover up or ignore her uncommon bits of sadness.

She stood up and walked towards her friend. "How are you today?" she asked, as it sounded like Rorie wasn't having the most pleasant day herself. Her rant sounded very upset and Sonya would like to know who this "load of trash" Anastasia Beckett was. Anastasia, Sonya thought, The name itself sounds like she would be an awful person.

"Well, I think the answer to that is that neither of us are good today. We need something to do to cheer up." Rorie answered the question that her friend Sonya asked, trying to think of what to do to lift some spirits. Rorie hated being mad or grumpy, she felt so confined to being in a bad mood when she was. She much preferred being peppy and energetic, something that was her natural behavior except for when provoked. Now she just wanted to get back to that natural behavior.

"Oh! What about we play cards? Have you played muggle cards before, like Go Fish or Liar?" Rorie asked, her mood already being lifted a bit.

"I made up a card game once. It uses marbles, too. You play your cards and then use the marbles. It's like a game of deluxe Go Fish!"

Rorie was excited to play the game, and even if Sonya didn't know how to play cards, she could teach her. The sense of a muggle game brought some nostalgia to Rorie's mind, reminding her of how she would play games with her father before he left. Not letting them bring her back into a sulky mood, Rorie pushed the thought aside.

"I'll be right back. I'm just gonna run up to my dorm and grab the cards and stuff," She pepped, running out the door all the way to her dorm, where she grabbed the bag with the muggle games, including a few other games like Scrabble and Uno. She didn't stop running until she was back in the abandoned lavoratory.

"Alright, you go ahead and pick what we play first." Rorie said, dumping out all the games onto the surprisingly clean floor of the bathroom. She smiled at Sonya, realizing that her spirits were being lifted too.

Sonya smiled at Rorie's response. She was happy that her friend didn't nag her about why she was crying. She had picked the right compartment on the train, Sonya thought about that nice first day.

Rorie talked about muggle card games and she had no idea what she was talking about. The girls enthusiasm was infectious however, and soon Sonya felt as if her bout of homesickness had never even happened. Rorie was babbling about some muggle card games that sounded quite fun. She had no clue what "go fish" was, Why is there a card game about a fish? she thought.

As she processed all the information about the games excitedly Rorie suddenly ran off, saying she was going to get the games, and Sony sat alone for a couple minutes. She was lucky to get as good as a friend as Rorie was, usually Sonya was the one cheering everyone up, this time though it went both ways.

Rorie returned quickly "Did you run the whole way?" Sonya laughed as she looked at all the games she had brought. There were so many games that seemed very foreign to her in bright packaging. She looked up at Rorie, "How about go fish? I have no clue what that is, but you can teach me."

Rorie smiled.

"Alright, Go Fish it is!"

Taking a stack of fifty-two playing cards out of a half-destroyed black case that also held some other items for games like dice and marbles.

"So, first I'm going to deal out seven cards to each of us," Rorie said as she passed out the cards, 14 in total. "The rest I am going to put in the middle of us, called the pool."

She placed the remaining cards face down in between the two girls.

"To play, we alternate turns. You just have to ask if the other player has any of a specific rank of card, whether its a nine or a queen or anything like that. If that person has some, then they have to give all of that type of card to the other player. If they don't have any, they say Go Fish. When you go fish, you just take any card from the pool," Rorie explained, motioning to the cards in the middle. "Then it's the next person's turn. The winner is either the one who runs out of cards first, or the one with the most suits of cards when the pool runs out."

Rorie smiled at Sonya. She didn't seem to be as sad anymore, and neither did Rorie. The two girls seemed to support one another.

Sonya watched as Rorie pulled out a seemingly old deck of cards and explained how to play the game. Her friend seemed happy now, teaching her how to play this muggle game, and that made her happy. She had always gotten joy from other people being happy and Rorie being exceedingly happy seemingly all the time was a good thing for her. She knew that although she loved people and doing new things it was still going to be rough being away from her family for so long. Good thing she had Rorie to cheer her up. She nodded and smiled, understanding how to play. "So there's no fish involved," she said with a small laugh, jokingly disappointed. Rorie's explanation of the game was clear, but we'll see how many times she forgets what to do.

She picked up the cards Rorie had put in front of her, being sure to shield them from her friend's view. "Shall I go first? Ok," she said, thinking about her move, "Do you have any fives?" she asked, hoping not to have to "go fish." "Also, did I do that right," she wanted to make sure she was obeying the rules of the game.

"Yeah, you're doing it right! And I bet when we learn more magic we could conjure sparkling fish with cute little faces to play with instead of cards..." Rorie zoned out for a second, imagining that. "Here you go, I have a five," She cheered for her friend as she handed the card over.

They played the cards for a few more minutes, Rorie an expert at the game from practice and Sonya very successful, a natural at it even if it was her first time. They chatted too, about Hogwarts and the classes and the trees and the people.

"So, Sonya, have you gone to the ballroom yet? I have, and it's so beautiful and elegant. It actually made me want to be in a dress, something that I thought was impossible before. I love dancing," Rorie said as she did a creative little twirl and then curtseyed playfully.

"The marble floors and the huge room with the enchanted ceiling, I could almost here music playing and the taps of feet on the shiny stone. The walls have all the detailed painting and wood and stone work, it's just so pretty," she fantasized, still pretending to do ballet, and being quite successful at it too. Rorie really could be a romantic sometimes.

"Oh, after Go Fish I will just have to show you it. It's so energizing, it could make anybody dance!"

Sonya laughed at the thought of them conjuring sparkly fish and playing with them. It looked so silly in her head. They continued with the game, chatting about various topics and having a good time. Her homesickness was forgotten for a long time, Rorie was good company.

As the game went on Rorie told her about the ballroom at Hogwarts and asked if Sonya had seen it yet. "I haven't," Sonya replied, "Hogwarts is so big, there are so many places to explore! You must show me!" she gushed. A few of her father's friends were fairly rich and had extravagant homes that had ballrooms. She often attended parties there that were quite stiff and boring for her taste but were occasionally fun. They had great food and Sonya loved dancing. She also loved empty theaters, where she could just belt from a stage without anyone watching and let her emotions out.

"We should go after this game," Sonya suggested. She imagined the grand ballroom of Hogwarts with just her and Rorie exploring. "It must be a great performance space," Sonya thought out loud, "I'd love to just go there to sing and dance. Do you do any performance arts?"

"Alright!" Rorie smiled as she took a card from the pool.

They finished out their card game in silence, except for a few jokes and laughs that they couldn't stop from coming.

"Wow! You're a natural at this game. Are you serious, this is your first game ever?" Rorie exclaimed after Sonya beat her, winking at the last sentence.

At Sonya's nod of confirmation that it was her first game, Rorie let out a surprised shriek and pretended to make her mind explode, her hands starting as fists next to her ears and moving outward while her hands opened up. Then she got up from where she had been sitting cross-legged and ran around the bathroom a few times, the anger she had felt a half-hour before long gone. After the few laps around the tiled room she collected the cards and put all the games back into the backpack and swung it over her shoulder.

"Let's go to the ballroom now, and we can pretend to be queens and dance!" Rorie gushed, pretending to do a twirl and curtsy.

As the two girls made their way out of the lavoratory and walked the huge halls of Hogwarts towards the beautiful ballroom, all Rorie could think about was how happy she was.

So this roleplay is going to be done but I will start a thread in the ballroom for us to use and post the link here as soon as I finish. ^^
