Toilets? Abandoned? Why? PV Stassie Closed

The Ravenclaw girl ran into the washroom, not really knowing where she was going, but she decided that she would explore the gigantic castle today, and this was one of the stops on her journey. The room was on the second floor, and it seemed as though hardly anyone went in there. It confused her, and she ought to know why, exactly, this room wasn't ever visited. It was just the same as any other restroom, was it not? She would soon know for sure.

Considering there was no specific gender inscripted on the entryway, Felicity wasn't sure as to what she would see. But it seemed pretty normal at first glance. It was extremely dim, the only light coming in through the few single-paned windows around the room. She counted them - One, two, three. Hardly enough light to see. The mirror was cracked, and the sinks looked.. well, rusted and old, of course. Perhaps this was why these toilets were abandoned - horrible upkeeping. Yet something twisted in her stomach, nagging at her, telling her that it wasn't the real reason. But then again, it could have always been her eleven year old imagination running wild. It wouldn't be the first time.

She looked at herself in the rather... filthy, mirror. She looked like she had dirt in her hair, which she doubted, and the appearance of the room looked even filthier than it did to the naked eye. Would she get sick from going in there? Highly doubtful. Infections didn't spread through air where no one else was currently breathing.

Stassie Fresco breathed approximately twelve times as she stepped into the abandoned bathroom, so unbeknownst to Felicity Greenwich, there was now a twenty-five percent chance that infection would be spread. The good thing was that Stassie had just rubbed her hands with vanilla-scented hand sanitizer because she did not want to get sick with Merlin-knows-what because of something she stumbled upon in while peeking into the toilets. That would be so embarrassing to write to Papa and Momma Fresco. Dear Mom and Pop, I got sick with mono because I accidentally fell into a toilet that hasn’t been flushed for two centuries.

So yeah, probably a two percent chance of infection!

Who knew what she could find hiding with the abandoned toilets? Her optimistic eleven-year-old mind thought of treasure and monsters, though her realistic eleven-year-old mind knew that the latter was more likely and that the former was only if her standards were tragically low that day. Still, it didn’t really hurt to try, and Stassie found herself becoming more and more sure in her quest in figuring out the history behind the abandoned bathroom.

The first thing she noticed was the slight stick to the bottom of her shoes. As she stepped further into the room, the stick became a little more unforgiving, and she had no choice but to curl her toes and hope that her shoe didn’t slip off. Stassie was not willing to touch anything in the room without sanitizing it first. She just wanted to find something cool. Something to show off to her friends.

As she turned her body to get a look of her face in the mirror, her eye caught the dark figure of someone else in the room. A ghost! AN EVIL GHOST! “AAAAAAAAH!” Stassie screamed and began walking backwards into one of the stalls.

“Begone! Back into the depths! J-Just leave, I’m fifty billion years too young to die!”

When it came to observing what, exactly, was surrounding her, Felicity was not too keen. So, when a shout erupted in the room that she had thought she was alone in, you can pet your last sickle that the blonde screamed just as loud, if not louder than, the other person - or entity. She shook her head from the thoughts of anything supernatural, dismissing them. Her long hair whipped around her as she turned abruptly, her robes imitating the same motion, and she peered into the stalls.

"What? A ghost?" She asked, furrowing her eyebrows as she looked around. From what she heard from her father, the ghosts in Hogwarts were quite friendly people. He told her about The Bloody Baron, one of the ghosts, and Helena Ravenclaw, in which they've turned up frequently, or not. She hoped she would get to see one soon, and maybe this was her chance! Her heart skipped a beat at the thought of something that exciting, but she walked forward, toward the stall that she saw a flash of robes dart into. Curiously, she poked her head in.

Oh! Another Ravenclaw. A grin spread across Felicity's face, and she shyly looked away, not expecting to be so intrigued about a person she was not quite sure about. She muttered the words under her breath, "I haven't seen you before. Are you a ghost?" She asked curiously, her gaze trailing back to the Ravenclaw girl in front of her. She looked beautiful, with curly brown hair and thick lips. Felicity mentally noted this, not daring to say anything aloud, but she sort of reminded her of her mother.

And despite every part of her body that was still shaking and flustered, it wasn’t a ghost.

The exact opposite of a ghost, actually.

A girl—a familiar Ravenclaw one, so they must have ran around similar circles—with a lively, inquisitive gleam in her eye and an easy grin spread like bright orange marmalade across her lips. It was easy to see that this girl wasn’t some dead guy, because 1) she was hardly transparent, and 2) she was hardly floating even an inch above the ground. Although Stassie knew this with utmost certainty, her heart continued to beat out of her chest like maybe there really was something supernatural going on with this other kid.

(Nah, couldn’t be. That smile was too real.)

She continued to stare at the girl, just waiting for her to say something. Like maybe, Wow, what a wimp you are. You scream just like a banshee! Or maybe, What is someone like you doing around in these parts? Or even the plain but deadly, Could you maybe leave? Even if her smile was the brightest thing next to a thousand suns, it could easily betray whatever thoughts were running through the other girl’s head.

And it seemed that Stassie was being a bit too cynical, even for a girl currently cornered in a dirty bathroom stall. “Stassie Fresco, a ghost?” she laughed, then gestured for the Ravenclaw to inch in a little closer. “I’m far from dead. Could a ghost do… this?!” Then her index finger reached out, and Stassie aimed for it to tap the other girl squarely on the nose.

“I didn’t think so.” Her features dissolved in an oddly smug expression. Jokingly, Stassie asked her in return, “How about you? Are you a ghost? This is honestly a depressing place to haunt.”

Oof I'm having a writer's block for this, I don't know why!!

Felicity couldn't contain the laugh that followed after the girl in front of her replied. It made sense that she was not a ghost - she looked as real as the blonde Ravenclaw. Her imagination was most definitely getting the best of her. She'd best tone it down.

When the curly-haired girl gestured for the blonde to lean close, she was hesitant. What if she was joking about not being a ghost, and was just a really realistic one? The thought troubled her, and yet she found herself leaning in, curious, as though the girl was going to tell her some secret. But when she reached out to simply poke the tip of Felicity's nose, she couldn't help but feel at least slightly disappointed.

"No," She said in response to being asked if she were a ghost, "If I were a ghost, I would be haunting the kitchen. That way, I would be able to smell and taste all of the delicious food!" She joked, backing away from the stall that the two were currently conversing in. She took another look around the room, her darker blonde eyebrows furrowing together, as though she were trying to figure out a difficult equation. But what she was trying to figure out definitely wasn't an equation.

"So, why do you think this place is abandoned?" She asked, too curious for her own good. "It looks like no one has been in here since the First Wizarding War. Not even for maintenance." She pursed her lips, turning back towards the other girl with her, "Do the toilets even work? Or the sinks?" She then moved towards the sink, using her robe sleeve to cover her hand before reaching out to twist the knob for water, only for a few single drops to fall out before stopping completely.

"Well, I guess the sinks don't work."

“Honestly, me too,” she said solemnly, the picture of warm, freshly-cooked food appearing for her every single day quickly becoming a welcome thought in her head. “I don’t know if ghosts are actually able to eat, though. Wouldn’t it all just fall out?” Ugh, she shuddered at the thought. Imagine trying to eat the world’s most amazing chicken alfredo only to have it warp through your body and plop onto a floor. It’d cause a mess and an absolute ruckus!

After the girl backed out, Stassie stepped out of the stall and surveyed the room with a judging eye. Still dirty. Still abandoned. Instead of just leaving it all decrepit and sad, they could have invested in having it renovated at least. The place at a lot of potential, even with its current state; Stassie had seen those American house renovating shows on Dad’s muggle television, and boy, what talent those contractors had. Maybe Hogwarts just didn’t have the budget and poured it all in on Quidditch.

(Not to say that Stassie disliked the sport, but what a waste!)

“Literally what I was thinking! But still can’t figure out why.” Stassie shrugged. She walked slowly around the bathroom and decided to sniff the air for clues—bleugh, nope! Just hints of mold and postmodern despair. Woe was this bathroom, by a landslide. With her fingers pinching her nose, she voiced her thoughts, “Maybe something horrible happened right below our feet. Like a tragic accident. Or a murder! What if there’s a REAL ghost haunting these parts of the castle?”

She walked over toward the other Ravenclaw near the sink, light on her feet so any germs didn’t even have the chance to stick around. Holding her breath, Stassie watched with anticipation as the girl turned the knob and… nothing. Not even a show to applaud “Well, that was disappointing,” she blandly remarked. “I’ll go check one of the toilets.”

Even though she felt a little awkward going back into the place she just walked out of thirty seconds ago, Stassie covered her hand with her sleeve and dared to press down on the flush lever. At first, it sounded like a normal toilet getting flushed.

Then, a gurgling sound.

Then, bubbles popping on the surface.

Then, water rising at an exponentially fAST RATE!!!

“Hey, uh, youuu…” Crap, they were in the same house and Stassie still didn’t recall her housemate’s name! “We got a problem.” She walked backwards out of the stall and looked frantically around in search of something that could possibly stop the toilet water from drowning them all. Her first thought was to take out her wand and point it toward the enemy loo. “Um, do something!” She waved it around, and nothing happened except a brief series of pale blue sparks.
