Galton had his candy. The wonderful little chocoball all the way from hogsmead was his. And for the price he would pay if he had trekked all the way to Hineydukes too. It was quite cold around this time of year, and Galton had made no effort to brave the cold to resupply his sugar stores. This was a perfect opportunity.

The annoying little boy had only allowed Galton 1 candy though, and he wouldn’t let him have anymore. Wasn’t he a business man? What type of business man would turn away someone nearly addicted to his product. So Galton hatched a plan. He would post up near the exit to the courtyard and try to intercept anyone passing by. Well, anyone but a professor that is.

So, if you happened to be on your way to the courtyard on this fine day you’d see a boy beckoning you towards him. “Hey... hey! Come over here.” He’d say in a hushed tone, motioning you over to him.

“Hey, if you go to the courtyard and see a guy in a long dark jacket, named... I don’t know but dark jacket- hard to miss, buy any of the candy he has, bring it to me, and I’ll pay you 3 sickles on top of the price of the candy.” Galton would tell you.

“Please! Please, Please!” He would smile wide, he was eager to see you back.

Opeila had forgotten her bag in the small hall, so she came back, a little annoyed. She had already been in the library when she noticed, and that meant, she had been at least five minutes away from the small hall. What a waste of time.
Sighing the Slytherin looked around, until she found a brown bag next to the table. She picked it up and looked through it. Alright. Everything was still there. Opeila remembered her primary school time. She wasn't able to leave her bag alone for five minutes, without some of her pens being stolen. It was so annoying.

The first year now turned around and left the small hall again. She had just decided to go to the courtyard instead of the library, when she heard something. Opeila froze and listened. Was someone calling her? The Slytherin looked around and then she found the source of the noise. A boy, who now motioned her over to him. Irritated, Opeila walked over. "Hey. What is it?", she said.
He then talked about a guy named Vladimir, who sold Candy in the courtyard. The boy wanted her to buy candy for him, he'd pay some more sickles on top. Opeila knew Vladimir, so she thought for a moment.
The boy basically begged her to do it. "Alright, alright.", Opeila sighed. "But don't you dare to betray me! I need the money. Also, which ones do you want?"

Among the various nooks, crannies and location of Hogwarts, the castle's courtyard had never held a particularly lofty position in Evelynn's ranking system. It had a nice little fountain which could be peaceful enough to lounge around, and it served as a place of gathering of sorts for those coming in or going out of the castle, but that was about it. It wasn't particularly enticing. It wasn't filled with intrigue or mystery. It didn't hold a millenia of knowledge in leather bound books, or a trove of wonder in collections of coloured vials. It was stone and cobble.

Or rather, that's all that it had been. In the fortnight leading up to Valentine's Day, however, the courtyard had suddenly changed its tune. Now, a Neo wannabe had staked his claim in a corner of the yard selling poisoned love-potion laced candies. Crowds of students swarmed and buzzed as a result, feeding into the hype of the amorous holiday. And evidently, the beckon of more than just the mysterious merchant would cut through the surrounding din to capture the attention of passing students.

Already having been there and done that with the first two, it was the lattermost intrigue that captured Evelynn's attention on her return from the Quidditch pitch this time around.

"It was Lansdale, right?" She queried, eyeing the second-year skeptically. Having witnessed him first-hand spewing chocolate like a busted firehose in the Gryffindor common room, his was a face she doubted she would ever forget.

"Are you sure that's a good idea...?" She couldn't help but wonder, questioning his request for what sounded like the amassing of a candy hoard. He'd had a voracious appetite for all things sweet back at the beginning of the school year, and rumor had it that this particular affinity had only gone downhill since."Actually, you know what," she said, shifting her tune, "that's a great idea."

What better way to get your hands on some candy than to (hopefully) convince someone very driven to collect such delectable edibles to part with a few morsels.

"Any chance you'd be willing to sell off any extra? I'm trying to... um.." She trailed off for a moment, deciding whether or not to make the plan known. She decided yes. "..well, I'm trying to figure out what they are, exactly, and maybe make more of them. Which means I need a small stock to study. And he—" She shot a frustrated look towards the boy in the trench coat. "—is making that difficult."

She turned back to Galton, smiling hopefully.

Galton might have been released from St. Mungos, but he was most certainly not free. The cannibal child with delusions of grandeur and somatic hallucinations that proved to not only be visual, tactile, audial but also gustatory. Never had he seen a potion with such a long-lasting effect, not since Romania. The candy he had consumed was long digested, there was no laxative or emetic that could bring the contents of whatever he had consumed to light unadulterated. The boy had an utter fascination, nay an obsession the course of his hospitalization. While he was more lucid than he had been in comparison to his earliest days, this would not be the first time they tried to release the Candy King as some of the nurses had dubbed him only to have to bring him back in.

The mind has a way of forgetting these things, as well as more important things. The Auror was well aware. This time Galton had reintegrated better, he was by far not right but it was quite possible that the child was never 'normal' in the conventional sense. Whilst the boy went on about candy, he seemed particularly obsessed with one person's candy. Was this just another instance of the boy's festering madness or was this something more?

It was working. Galton had already dispatched his first subject. It felt good to have people do what he wanted, he was finally getting what he deserved. As @Opeila Seilun scampered off Galton gave her the reassurance she needed. "Get me a umm... caramel, or, no, or a sherbet lemon... And I won't disappoint!"

And then another approached him. One more servant to feed Galton's sugar lust? He knew the girl, a @Evelynn Decipio, they'd shared chocolate frogs in their dorms common rooms before. Which totally hadn't ended in Galton puking. She rattled something off about wanting to buy Galton's candy. What... Has she insane. Why would Galton sell her his candy. He was the one buying it. She also went on about figuring out what it was?

"Look, I know exactly what it is..." He looked around the area before whispering. "It's delicious." The words slipped from Galton's tongue with a bit of drool. He could feel the texture of sticky caramel in his mouth, the dampness of a chocoball, all the flavors swirling on his tongue. The boy was in a mental wonderland of delight, staying there for a few seconds, staring at the girls face, but seeing nothing. Then he snapped back. Maybe he could make a good trade? She seemed to want candy to study, and his families was quite good.

"I got some lollipops from the family though, I'll trade those to you for some other candy. And even if I would give you the candy 'm trying to get, I don't have even a second piece for myself!" He waited a few seconds before adding. "If you're gonna stay I need you to act natural. I got business to do."

Opeila came back only a few minutes later. She was nervous. What would happen, if the boy ate the sherbert lemon? Those weren't normal sweets like the ones from Hogsmeade, even though she couldn't tell them apart.
But for three sickles, she would definitely be able to avoid someone for a day. That was, what Vladimir said how long the effect would last, right?
Opeila gave the Gryffindor the Sherbert Lemon. "There. If you are going to eat it, please just... try to stay away from me today.", she said.
Was this a good idea? Probably not. Were the teachers okay with a student selling laced sweets to first years? Surely not. Though, she could imagine that Professor Bercegeay would just enjoy to watch this. She definitely didn't care as much about her students wellbeing, as she should.
Opeila looked around. She didn't really want to be seen as someone who gave around laced candy... Her dad would be so disappointed in her. She could almost hear his voice in her head. Haven't you seen enough of potion accidents? Do you need to join this?
Oh yeah. They would all be disappointed. Opeila herself was. Her mother was laying in the St Mungos, poisoned, and here she was, giving laced candy to another student.

As the other girl entered back into Galton’s sight he couldn’t help but be giddy. More candy! Oh how excited he was. His genius plan was working. Soon the delectable confection would be his. He took some money out as she approached.

He reached out with his left, open palm for her to place the sugar in. With his right he dropped 8 coins into her hand for a trade. 3 sickles and 5 knuts like he promised. He didn’t waste anytime examining the sherbert, he knew them well, all he did was slide it into the pocket holding his chocoball. A cute little family of candy, looking to expand.

He smiled at the girl as she said something odd. Stay away from her if he ate it...? Of course! She was scared she’d regret her decision to sell it to him if she saw how tasty it was when Galton ate it. That was smart. Galton always hated hanging out during working hours in his parents store because he had to watch all the other kids buy candy and eat it, right before his very eyes. It was a cruel punishment he wouldn’t want to subject anyone else to.

“Okay! Don’t worry I won’t.” Was all he said, a smile from ear to ear still hung on his face.

Evelynn frowned, watching the transactions. It was a smart plan, really: she had to give him credit for that. Who wouldn't want to make a few extra coins simply by purchasing something on his behalf and dropping it off in the process of walking back into the school? No risk. Not much extra effort. So why not? It was practically free sickles.

Her lips only pursed all the more as he responded to her suggestion with one entirely out of left field. Why in the world would she want candy from his family, whatever that even meant?

"No, you don't understand," she sighed, stepping off to the side in order to attempt to look natural, as though the two were just having some normal conversation. "I need these candies." She eyed the trench-coated stranger. "The ones laced in the love potion and goodness knows what else. Why do you even want so many of them? Surely not to eat for yourself…"

She eyed him critically, trying to deduce his intent. By that gluttonous expression and the glisten of saliva, he did seem as though he was wanting for himself. Which seemed…odd to her. To say the least.

"Tell you what. I have a chocoball from Hogsmeade. I'll trade you it for one of the ones he sold? That way you're not out of pocket anything and you still get the same candy without the side effects."

Janet skipped through the hallway on her way to the courtyard to meet her best friends. Suddenly she was stopped by a second year boy beckoning her mysteriously into the corner.
“Hey... hey! Come over here.”
She debated whether or not to go over, she was already running quite late, but curiosity got the better of her and she went over to him.
"What do you want?" she hissed, still not too happy about being side tracked.
“Hey, if you go to the courtyard and see a guy in a long dark jacket, named... I don’t know but dark jacket- hard to miss, buy any of the candy he has, bring it to me, and I’ll pay you 3 sickles on top of the price of the candy.”
Janet debated with herself, she was afraid of being ripped off, or being told to keep the candy cause he changed his mind, after all she had no interest in whatever strange sweets he wanted. But she was in need of money... She knew someone who was willing to sell her a fake permission slip for hogsmeade and she needed five galleons for that, she only had one so far. Was three sickles worth her time? Maybe not (she was going to make her friends wonder where she was) but she was desperate to get her hands on a fake permission slip and three sickles helped her on the way to that.
“Please! Please, Please!” He prompted.
"All right, I'll help you but you better hold up your end of the deal," She said.
She didn't like the look of this boy too much (surely this was a bit desperate just for sweets?) but she found herself grinning in spite of herself, after all she did love any sort of adventure however small (and kind of pathetic) it was.
"by the way what kind of sweet do you want?"

She was still here. Evelynn went on about she needed the candy so badly. Join the club. If she was trying to get Galton to feel sorry for her for being a candy addict, she was going to be disappointed. Galton had little sympathy for candy addicts, just control yourself, it wasn’t that hard.

As she continued Galton zoned out a bit, thinking only of the candy in his pocket. Words went into his ears, but they just floated there, caught in metaphorical caramel. And then he snapped back as another walked by. He would give her the same spiel he gave the others.

The answer to her (@Janet Jackson) question was easy. “Oooh! I’d love some caramel. And don’t worry, I always do!” He gave her a smile as he watched her walk off. What a wonderful day today was. Soon his candy family would be one piece bigger!

He giggled to himself, looking around. Then he remembered he wasn’t alone. @Evelynn Decipio was still standing next to him, probably waiting for an answer. All the words she’d said came rushing back to him. Or most of them... Boradstrokes of what she said. Why on earth would this candy have side effects?

It had to be a trick. Galton knew she was desperate, a true candy addict, trying to trick a poor little boy. He wouldn’t be tricked though! He would hold fast. It must be a really delicious chocoball for her to be so rude. If he had another few chocoballs maybe he would have, but with only one, it really wasn’t going to happen.

“Mmmmm... Give me a little time to see what I can come up with.” He did his best to wink, he had to be natural, addicts were known to hurt people. “Let me get a few more pieces and maybe I’ll trade you!” He smiled at her, shifting his gaze back to the incoming students, then leaned over and whispered “Just so you know, all candy had side effects.” Natural.
