Gem felt like a spy, sneaking out of the dorms past curfew with his Polaroid camera hanging around his neck, little notepad tucked into his sweater pocket. He was sure to wear his worn out shoes, walking oh-so quietly on his tiptoes, dragging himself down the hall. He’d mapped the school inside out, so he didn’t really need a light– that being said, he could still see his hand in front of his face, so it wasn’t as bad as he’d been letting on.

He was nervous, not about getting caught, but at the answers to his questions. Rejection was one of his biggest fears, and that wasn’t something that was changeable overnight. He’d been thinking about Brielle for a long time since their first date, she was looming around in his dreams, her smile was just stuck to his head– God, he loved loving someone.

He’d made it to the small hall, peering around out the corner of his eye to make sure no one but him (and soon Brielle) was in the room. He’d made it a few minutes early on purpose, mostly because she was more afraid of getting caught than he was, and her being alone would likely only increase that paranoia. He rubbed the lense of his camera with the bottom of his shirt, mostly a nervous habit– he waited and waited, anticipating the little patter of her shoes. He wanted to hum, but making any noise would seal the inevitability of death– or, detention, but it could’ve been the same thing. It was so hard to wait in total silence, but he felt like it’d be worth it. Probably.

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

Getting that owl from Gem made her heart race. What questions could he possibly have? It kept Brielle nervous throughout the day, that was for sure. He said to meet him in the small hall at midnight, bloody hell how past curfew that was.

When it had struck the time to leave her safe dormitory into the dark corridors of the night, she trotted down the hall in her custom black velvet robe with green roses stitched on the sleeves, hugging her small turtledove plush tightly, walking ever so quietly. She was paranoid her shoes were creating footstep like noises, so that began to make her go even slower.

She didn't know why she was so worried about getting caught, any other day she would be filled with excitement and thrill if meeting someone this late as night. So why was she acting so weird all of a sudden?

Brielle had finally made her way to the small hall, peeking her head in slowly to make sure no one but Gem was waiting for her. Oh god, what a embarrassment that would be if she just saw a professor or prefect there waiting for her.

Fortunately, she was relieved by the sight of Gem's face, looking around somewhat impatiently. She approached him quietly, tapping him on the shoulder in hopes of not scaring him.

Feeling his shoulder tapped– that scared the hell out of him. He tensed up, turning his head to expect a prefect, or a professor, or something to seal his fate. Instead, he was met with the face of Brielle, who looked mildly concerned that he meant it when he said they were sneaking out at night. He still smiled, though, hopping up to give her a quick hug. He didn’t say anything yet, just pulled the notepad out and scribbled something real quick on it, holding it out for her to see;
I think we can speak, but only whisper. I haven’t heard anything yet.
He sat down against the wall, looking up at her to admire the view– that was a nice sweater, he wondered where she’d got it. He decided not to ask (or say anything, for that matter), instead grabbing his camera to aim it in her general direction, snapping a quick photo. After that, he patted the area next to him, beckoning her over so it was easier for them to speak. That, and he wanted her closer to him, but he didn’t say that. He didn’t know why, maybe it was a boy thing.

“Hi, good ta see ya came,” his voice was brought down to a low whisper, hardly audible. “So... first question, joost so I can get an answer. Do you fink we’re boyfriend and girlfriend? I-I forgot ta ask, sorry about that, but it’s fine if ya just wanna see where it goes. I’m just curious.” He was looking at her with soft, pleading brown eyes— similarly to a puppy. He was so nervous, pulling at the sleeves of his sweater. It was more discreet than messing with his hair, another fairly bad habit of his, but who could blame him? It was a hard question to ask, and a harder one to answer. He was going to be sick.

She fiddled with her sleeves, looking down at her hands. Well? Were they dating? Would she sound weird if she said yes? She wanted to say yes, she wanted to say it more than anything in the world. Part of herself was afraid as well, though. And not from the fact they were out so late. What scared her was the impaling thought of what if she said yes, and the relationship crashed like a fiery train wreck.

She had allowed herself to open her heart up once to someone, what if doing it again resulted in the same mistake? Though as she looked back at the boy she was sitting next to, her eyes softened, and her fears melted away.

This wasn't a question. She wanted to be his girlfriend, she wanted to be the girl he showed off to his friends, she wanted to be the girl he grew 'old and frail with', so he had implied. So with a small whisper, she laced her fingers with his, just like she had in the hospital wing. It was crazy how far they had come in just a few days. Only a while ago it seemed that she was sitting in that infirmary bed, asking Gem to go on a date with her. Everything seemed impossible then.. and now..

She felt like they could do anything.

"Y-yes.. I mean, I want to be your uhm- Girlfriend.." Brielle said faintly, leaning her head on his shoulder. It was funny, how odd someone you like can make you feel. The way you get all fuzzy and lightheaded. It was nice, if she was being honest.

The silence seemed to smolder in the cold atmosphere, but he waited. He’d wait forever, for that answer. He liked her, he liked her for a while, they’d told each other they loved one another, that was his girl. He couldn’t see it any other way, he didn’t want to think about her carrying any sort of feelings for anyone else– that was tough, that was... something that made his jaw lock up, chest feel all heavy, his fingers curl in the very worst way possible. Jealousy, what an ugly feeling.

She didn’t reject him, though. She said yes, she was his girlfriend, that was his lady right there. The jealousy was quickly replaced by a sort of possessive, lovey rush up his spine, reaching the very tips of his fingers, warmed his cheeks. It felt good, it felt relieving– it made him giddy that to her, she was his, and he was hers. That sort of... comfort, knowing for sure someone carried those kinds of feelings for you, wanted you. It was new, and it felt brilliant, a burst of genuine feeling, one he couldn’t put to a page.

“Great. Great- yeh, yeah. I’m yer boyfriend, cool. Yes.” He couldn’t find the right words to say aloud to express his excitement, but his expressions spoke much louder than his words. He was grinning like a looney, his hands gripping hers tighter, rubbing the top of her hand with his thumb. He’d almost forgotten about his second question, mind swimming with thoughts about potential future dates, or just... her, in general.

“Oh! Ehm, so... my second question, would you like ta go to e’ dance wiv me? I find it appropriate ta have me girlfriend wiv me there, yunno. Joost a thought.” God, when did he become so bloody cheeky? Maybe because he was happy. Yeah, that had to have been it.

Gem seemed to be staring at her in the darkness of the night, and the blush spreading across her cheeks made her swear you could see it through the pitch black atmosphere of the quiet Small Hall. The touch of his hand holding hers made her smile, causing her to forget her fears once again. The words afterwards, though, almost gave her heart attack. Even though she knew, hearing the words come out of his mouth shocked her all the same.

They were boyfriend and girlfriend.. The were one another's, no one could possibly ruin that. As her mind flashed back to their date, she giggled out loud. She thought of his goofy argument that strawberries were sexy, and well, god it was so amusing to her. It made her think.. would they have more dates like that? The mere thought of it gave her butterflies, good ones though.. Like the ones she had when she returned to her common room from the date.

Then he mentioned something that made her want to scream. Scream yes at the top of her lungs, is what she wanted to do. Though, just like she had on the date, she came to the realization of something grim. Learning from her mistake last time, she didn't get upset, though she did pick up her head to meet his eyes.

"Someone had told me you were going with Katherine.. Katherine Cobwebbe?" She replied, not giving her answer right then.. Instead, she waited for his response.

Gem didn't quit smiling, he had too many little fuzzy, happy thoughts all around his head to even be bothered. Katherine! That's right, he'd just have to tell her the situation, he knew she'd understand. Katherine understood a lot, she was the coolest.

"Oh, yeh! But she'll understand, I can joost meet wiv her there, gonna be a lot of minglin'. I'll have ta stick around ya though, wouldn't want any of those Ilvermorny kids stealin' you away from me." He nudged her shoulder playfully, winking right at her so she knew he was just taking the piss. "But yeah, I'll just tell her plans changed." It was a simple resolution to the problem, and Brielle didn't seem bothered about it, so hey; it hadn't been a big deal in the first place.

He leaned back against the wall, his shoulder slumping over. His original idea was to to take a bunch of pictures, but he'd have to be sort of discreet about that-- speaking of, the picture he'd taken just moments ago had landed in his lap, lucky for him, not crushed or crumpled or anything. He was quick to shove it right in his pocket, and in turn, pull out another envelope, white. He handed it to her, smiling all sweet and tender, though cautious.

"Don't open it until before ya get to bed. Promise?" He held his free hand out, extending a pinkie so it was official. "Promise me."

Her thoughts relaxed once he told her he'd tell Katherine what was going on. She felt it would be awkward if she saw Katherine at the Ball.. with how Brielle basically stole her date and all. Hopefully she was as cool as Gem claimed her to be.

"Alright.. As long as everyone is fine with it." She said, her head relaxing right back on him. She caught a glimpse of the sleek poloroid photo in his lap before he shoved in his pocket. She smiled at that, and it made her wonder how much he really did like her.

Once the photo was securely placed in his sweater pocket, he pulled something else out. An envelope, a beautiful wax seal securing it shut. She just about ripped it open right there, though the sound of Gem's voice stopped her.

Don't open it 'till tonight? Are you kidding? She looked up at him with puppy dog eyes and then back down at the note. "You're really going to make me wait until later? How lame." She whined, watching him stick out his pinkie finger.

With a sigh, she locked her pinkie with his, rolling her eyes playfully. "Fine, but whatever is in here better be a check for 500 galleons." Brielle joked, laughing at her own joke. Maybe because it was so stupid, or the fact she got loopy after 10 pm.

Whatever it was, it didn't stop her from kissing Gem lightly on the lips, holding on a little longer last time.

Well, I can’t tell ya what’s in it, but dependin’ on your priorities, it’s better or worse than a 500 Galleon check.” He looked down at her hands, fumbling around with the envelope. He wasn’t sure why, maybe it was just a promise he would rather her see when she was on her own, or just a nice thing to read before bed. Whatever the motive was, he couldn’t think too much of it since she’d kissed him, wiping his mind of all the thoughts in the world.

His hand came up to cup her cheek in his hand, his fingers brushing along her skin as lightly as a feather. He’d pulled back, only for a second, only so he could lay a few more on her, whether it be the corner of her lips, or maybe the side, or a little sweet one, right on the tip of her nose. He loved it, he was a bit shy about it, but he loved it.

He could stay here forever, even considered camping out there by sneaking into the Ravenclaw common room to snag some pillows and blankets, but thought against it. That was another adventure for another time, and he could tell she was feeling the sleepy haze, just by the way her eyes dimmed out.

“Would’ve like me ta walk ya back to e’ Slytherin room? Or do you think you can go around yourself?” As he spoke, he held his hand out to her to help her up, pecking her right on the lips once she was up on her feet again.

As quiet giggles filled the room, she flicked her hair over her shoulder and looked into the pools of his eyes. It was official, Brielle Gray and Gem Stuart were.. actually a thing. God, how she couldn't wait to go ramble to Grayson about all of this. He'd probably laugh and say something like she's too young for relationships, though did she care?

Not at all.

As she took Gem's hand, she smiled when he pecked her on the lips, causing her to peck back. Who knew falling out of a tree and breaking your leg could result in.. the best thing of your life? She had no idea, but thanked her lucky stars anyway. There was nothing to tear them apart, absolutely nothing could separate her from his embrace.

"I dunno.. wouldn't that be a long walk for you? All the way to the Basements and then the West Tower?" She questioned. Of course, she wanted him to go with her, but she couldn't help but feeling guilty for making her walk all that. As she glanced at the envelope once more, she couldn't help but wonder what was in it.. and what could be better than 500 galleons.
