Supply and Demand
Elena leaned back against the wall, she wasn’t unhappy here, but her mind was stuck back in London with her friends or, as the care workers and the police called them, her “gang”. They weren’t a gang, they were just trying to stay alive, and if a couple of rich purses were lighter because of that. Then so be it.
She had already used the extensive gossip network that Hogwarts had to spread the word. Puck was in the small hall and she would sell information about anyone. Almost anyone, Rorie was her friend, and that Kaegen kid was scary enough. Everyone already knew about him anyway.
She had her notebook hidden in her hoodie, if anyone got their hands on it then she would just use her memory, but the notebook helped. So far the people had come asking about their crush or their enemy, Elena assumed that would be the way that this venture would continue. Elena pulled down her hoodie, scared people tended to like it better if they got their gossip from somebody that was smiling. Elena tried to keep a welcoming smile, her usual mischievous one that got her the nickname “Puck” wasn’t as useful in this situation.
Someone was approaching her so she turned towards the, “I’m Puck. What do you want to know?”

"A little birdie told me if there's information to be had then ye be the one to go to. Puck's bit of a strange name ain't it though?" Ah yes enter the intrepid and by this point well known red head. Quinn Healy, his trade mark curly fiery orange mane of short hair bobbing with each step he took. Seems he grew it out again, and seems his Dublin accent was as heavy as ever.
He looked at the unique first year and immediately his interest was beyond caught. "So got any information about anything scandalous, or um what is it the American's say....juicy?" He chuckled to himself. He was in his normal school robes. A notepad with pen in hand. "I ask for the Hufflepost's gossip column."
Quinn seemed friendly enough, his greenish blue eyes seeming to be deceptively sharp. The whole time he was inspecting this Puck's behavior. Maybe she could be trusted, maybe she couldn't but Quinn was always one to give everyone a chance no matter what. Might as well try to be friends right?Getting information is just a plus to this. But his "job" did demand this, gosh he had so many articles to do this month. But gossip was by far the most fun when nothing interesting was happening.

The kid wanted gossip? Well, she'd give it to him. Gossip wasn't her strong suit, she dealt more in absolute answers, she was supposed to be an informant, not a gossip network.
Oh well, money was money and money was what she needed. If this was what she needed to do then so be it. So she opened her notebook and looked through it for what this Quinn guy wanted. Gossip, juicy gossip. There those would do.
"It's 1 sickle per piece of useful information. If you like it, pay me, if you don't, payment would be nice but is not required." Elena looked at Quinn.
"Puck's a nickname, fairies are in fashion, A Midsummer Night's Dream is a good play. You had to be there to understand it properly though." Elena grinned mischeviously.
"So I have a couple of tidbits for you, Sonya Carson was seen jamming with Landon Riley. Landon Riley was seen entering the Astronomy Tower after curfew, Isabella Hills entered the same tower earlier. Gossip says Isabelle and Landon are in a relationship. Gossip often is wrong." Elena picked her fingernails.
"That new professor, Griffith, he's a bit acerbic, he'll be a hard teacher for some students come class time." Elena considered for a second, "Professor Sky and Professor Elaine are both pretty good. Their classes will be good."
"So, how much am I getting paid?"

[FONT="Century Gothic"]"Since ye know ya basically saved my bacon how does 1 galleon sound. This is all handy information so I figure a little extra is the least I can do new friend." Quinn was being short and to the point this time. All he said was true and of course there was absolutely no ill intent behind his actions or words. It's just this was technically a business deal so he was emulating what he saw his father and grandfathers do during such events.
Especially, in this particular place where he put on an air of confidence, but genuine elation at the same time. It was a strange combination that still got the point across. Because for all the goofiness that Quinn portrayed and the occasional inconsistencies he would intentionally insert. Quinn was a smart, clever, logical, and analytical young boy who could think on his feet given the chance.
Something about Puck made him want to be friends with her, so he hoped in this little interaction at least. They could become good acquaintances and hopefully even friends. Though that would be determined solely by her reaction, so he would have to wait and see what she said and did.

Elena looked at the galleon Quinn had offered her. He seemed like he genuinely meant no harm, her cold demeanor melted a bit in the face of such kindness. What’s even better was that he already viewed her as a friend, that was more than she got from a lot of people at this school, most of them either didn’t notice her or didn’t want to know her. Elena hoped the second year would make a good friend.
“Thank you, that’s really nice of you.” She smiled at him, a real smile, not the ones she wears as battle armour or the grins she uses to fill the gap where she should be talking. Mischief and happy chaos were in her nature, but the years had dulled her to someone that had to create order to survive. There was something about this school that was reviving the spark that had been left smoldering for years. An idea stirred in her head, maybe since he was giving her so much extra she could put some to good use.
“Well, since you’ve been so kind how about you come with me to use that galleon.” She looked up at him hopefully, “So Quinn, what are your thoughts on ice-cream?”

Anastasia didn't exactly savor the idea of going to someone who chose to call themself "Puck" for information, but she could only do so much digging on her own. True, she had done a good amount, but if she could get a bit more on her target, that would be perfect.
She was quite uneasy as she approached the blue haired girl. She wouldn't have gotten on well with this girl regardless, but it didn't help that she was quite good friends with Roxie Tomson. Still, she was the place to go if one wanted information.
"Puck?" she said, gritting her teeth at having to speak to someone like this. She already knew it was a bad idea, but she did need information. "I'm not going to pretend to like this any more than you do, but if you tell me what I want to hear, it would be mutually beneficial. What do you have on Aurelia Bezuidenhout?" She didn't have a reason to use the information she'd been gathering yet, but it was always better to be safe than sorry. The girl had been rather catty as the Gryffindor sleepover, and seeing as she was the gossip columnist for the Gryffindor House paper, Anastasia knew it would be better to have a weapon and not use it than be caught unprepared.

Even though Anastasia didn't seem openly hostile, it still made Elena uneasy to talk to her. Although she had heard some odd things about Aurelia, so this was going to be a relatively easy sale. It was probably good anyway, if she was focused on Aurelia then she wasn't thinking about Rorie. So, for all Elena knew, the hatred the two girls bore each other could fizzle away.
"Aurelia Bezuidenhout, I actually have a surprising amount on her. You see, people keep seeing her in potions brewing things outside of class time. For a while, nobody really knew what she was brewing, but you are in luck." Elena grinned at Ana, "Some odd information came in last week. A student that swears up and down that she uses forgetfulness potions. I don't know exactly why, nobody really knows, but that's pretty interesting don't you think?"
"Hmm, that's the most interesting thing, she insulted a couple of people at the sleepover behind their backs, but it was just me and Devina Spence, so I don't know if that helps much, seeing as neither of us are exactly the most scary or popular people around." Elena looked at Ana, "Does that help you?"

Anastasia nodded as the Slytherin began to speak. She'd known about the potion brewing for a while, and while she had something of a theory, couldn't make any guesses as to what it meant since she didn't know what she was brewing. She didn't interrupt since she was hoping the other girl would have more insight. A moment later, she was rewarded. Forgetfulness Potion? If that was accurate, that made a huge difference to her current theory. She kept listening, hoping for a bit more, but nothing else major came to light. She'd known about the badmouthing since she had been at the sleepover.
"I'll let you know if the information is at all helpful," Anastasia told the other girl, getting ready to leave. She'd decided that she would just wait until the information panned out or didn't before paying Puck. She didn't think paying her part up front was as good of an idea as she'd originally thought. "If it is, I suppose I'll give you a few galleons or if there were something else you wanted. Of course, that's if the information does me any good." She really did plan on paying the Slytherin if the intel panned out but she wasn't about to risk rewarding the girl for giving her bad information.
