It was going to be one of those days. The pain surged through her left arm, a kind of burning sensation threatening to consume her awareness. Naturally, it had to be her dominant one right? Why would it be anything else? Why had she ever done this? Her eyes darted to her arm, as it pulsed and twitched. The rivlets of scarlet ran down the length of her arm, quickly vacating her exposed veins. Her robe was soaking up quite a bit of blood as well, but it was ruined anyway, torn by the severing charm. At least cloth was what one was supposed to use said charm for, not people. But the cut had been indiscriminate, cutting fabric and skin alike. Her eyes darted back up to the horrified face of her assailant.Permission to godmod actions granted by Isabella Hills
Soren Harris. Ravenclaw’s resident “tough guy” and elitist snob. A fifth year, so one would think he'd know better. The dawning realization of what had occurred was evident on his face. He was that type of bully who could talk the talk but not walk the walk. But this time he had, and the “walk” had far more repercussions than he ever could've predicted.
The fact that spells actually do cause harm. The fact that he would likely face expulsion for assault. The concept of that being real blood. Perhaps all these thoughts occurred to the boy. There was no way for Luna to know. However, the thought she guessed was most likely was how she wasn't the target. It wasn't supposed to be her. How it was supposed to be that hot-headed Slytherin girl.
Luna wasn't quite sure of what all had occurred. She had been getting some fresh air, walking the grounds in the early morning. She was just heading back into the weathered castle, ready to go fetch some supplies for her next class, Charms. When she had rounded the corner of the entrance, she was silently shocked to see Isabella and Soren in each other's faces. It was quite evident that a screaming match was in progress. Bella was being her usual aggressive self, but at least this time it was likely merited. There was what seemed to be a first-year Slytherin boy on the ground, clutching his knee, tears staining his face. Luna knew Bella well enough from their first year together to know that she was ever to the defense of her house. Of course, Luna didn’t comprehend the stereotypes and animosity between houses. It honestly made no sense to her whatsoever. Why divide the developing student body into groups? Regardless, the house of Emerald and Silver faced the most viritol. Luna knew better. Evil and hatred lurked in all human hearts. Having the will to be better than that was paramount to survival. A house didn’t define a student. A student, or person for that matter, defined themselves.
Living on the streets, and surviving, means knowing how to read a person’s intent. Little things that give away their next action. A tensing of a muscle, narrowing eyes, clenched teeth, these all were signs Soren was exhibiting. And as Luna analyzed his face, she knew that whatever had been exchanged between the two, it was about to boil over. Soren’s voice rose in volume, and would easily alert anyone in a nearby radius with its intensity.
“Oh, Miss High and Mighty wants to act like she knows what is what? I’ll show you where Slytherin belongs! On the floor, sniveling like the worthless house they are!” As the words left his mouth, Luna had already broken into a dead sprint. His wand was spinning up into his grip, moving like lightning through the air. Bella wouldn’t have time to react, the movement would be that sudden. The quick squiggle in the air followed by a flash of hot pink light. “DIFFINDO!”
Luna had more than enough agility to put herself in between the older boy and her rival of the same year. Maybe she and Bella didn’t get along, but Luna wasn’t going to just let someone cause deliberate harm to the Slytherin girl, regardless if the boy was a fellow Ravenclaw or not. As she possessed the space between the two Hogwarts students she felt the contact of the spell on her arm. The pain had been sharp, so wholly intense, that her scream from the pain was otherworldly. If the boy casting the spell wasn’t enough to catch the attention of a Professor, surely her scream was sufficient.

Normal days were a rarity at Hogwarts. As a school of magic, it was a given. There was always a spell being cast here, a potion being made there. She should of expected her ‘normal day’ to of gone the other way when nothing excited had happened before 10am. But of course, she wasn’t expecting anything. So she was truly surprised when she turned into the Small Hall and saw a large Ravenclaw towering over a much smaller Slytherin.
What surprised her even more was the way the older student proceeded to pick up the younger student and, quite literally, throw him to the floor. At the first sign of contact, Isabella almost ran across the hall. She could feel anger boiling inside of her at the boys disrespect and plain bullying. "OI! Who do you think you are, bullying a First Year? How dare you, you disgusting, self-righteous bully."
The words were out of her mouth before she knew what she was doing, echoing along the empty halls. A turn of the head from the Ravenclaw showed her he had obviously heard her. Most students in her position would be afraid, some even frightened enough to turn heel and run back out of the door in hopes of escaping the bully. But anger was flooding her body by now, leaving no room for other emotions. She had one goal and one goal only to achieve in her fury. Stop this guy, before he caused anymore damage to the already injured First Year.
"What did you just say? Stay out of this, you nosy tart." Her fury only increased at the sound of his voice sending an insult at her. Who was he to throw a student to the ground, then insult her - when she was simply trying to make sure nobody got hurt?
"I’ll say whatever the hell I want to someone with the likes of you. What do you think you’re doing? What on earth could a First Year ever of done to you too deserve to be thrown on the ground like you just threw him?" If the rage in her voice wasn’t clear now, the angry shaking of her body would be a dead give-away to the extent of her rage.
“He insulted me! And with the way you’re going, you’re gonna be be the next one thrown - and trust me, it’ll be out a window.” She could hear noises of pain coming from the one of the youngest of her own by now, she wanted to try and help - but this Fifth Year looked like he had no intention of backing down unless he was forced to back down. And lucky for him, she wouldn’t quit until he backed off.
“So what? That in no way gives you the right to injure another person. You can throw threats around all you like, but everyone here already knows you have no intention of follow them through, you big baby. You wouldn’t risk expulsion just to simply settle your fat ego. Back off and go crawl back under the rock you came from. You do not mess with me or my Slytherins you egotastic asshole.” By this time, they were in each others faces. The height between them was obvious as he towered over her, seemingly trying to scare her and establish some kind of dominance between the pair. But as young as she was, she was in no means scared by the older student. As soon as the last word left her mouth, she knew she had made a mistake. An intake of breath, the narrowing of eyes and clenching of teeth were signs that what had just left her lips had hit a nerve somewhere within him - and that he was about to blow his top off. Taking a step back, she held her hands up to shield her face if he was to hit her.
“Oh, Miss High and Mighty wants to act like she knows what is what? I’ll show you where Slytherin belongs! On the floor, sniveling like the worthless house they are!” She knew what was going to happen a split second before it dead. His arm rose - but not in a way you would punch someone with. He was going to use a spell, and spells could do a lot more damage than any physical damage could.
Bracing herself for the impact of the spell, she was shocked when something - or more like someone - ran in front of her, placing themselves smack bam in front of immediate danger. A flash of pink light, and a word followed barely a second after. A scream of pain erupted within the hall, coming from the person that had run in front of her.
As if by instinct, her arm rose at the sound of the scream. Her wand in her hand, she shouted the first spell that came to mind. “Incendio!” Aimed at the older boy, it didn’t didn’t take long for the flames to find him due to their close proximity. They ran over his clothes and his hair turned from well hair to a mop of burning flames within a matter of seconds.
With the older student distracted, she turned to the person that had just leapt into the line of danger. She was stumped when her eyes settled on a second year Ravenclaw student - Luna Aurelius. But, didn’t she hate her? Why would someone who hated her just save her from something her hot headed self deserved?
Refusing to spend any time lingering over the subject of why, she leapt forward at the girl - catching sight of the hole the spell that was meant for her had made in her rivals arm. “Oh my merlin, why would you do that? Seriously, no one in their right mind would do that. Are you ok? Oh lord, your arm. IT’S BLEEDING! OH MERLIN, SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!” Starting to panic at how bad the damage was, or at least looked, she carefully ripped the sleeve of Lunas injured arm away - making sure there would be no obstacles blocking anyones path to the wound when someone did find them and heal the Ravenclaw. “I’m so, so sorry. That spell was meant for me, not you. It should of been me. This is all my fault.” Blood from the second years sleeve stained her hands as she threw the fabric behind her on the ground, ignoring the First Year crying on the ground and the Fifth Year with his head on fire.
"Ignis Praefoco!" The flames that lashed along the older boy were quickly smothered before they'd fully begun their dance, ensuring little to no damage to the wide-eyed Ravenclaw, who to all intents and purposes, needed no further fire for the burn he was about to receive. Wand aloft and eyes blazed in such a way Violet Henley was almost never seen, the Charms professor resumed her steady pace towards the mess in the corridor. When she spoke, her voice was calm and even, but carried in such a way that it could not be misunderstood as a mere request, "My office, young man. Sit and touch nothing. I will be there shortly."
This was all she said, and his footsteps as they shuffled off were the wisdom of his response. He was a fool and a bully, but not, it seemed to much of either to know what was good for him.
Kneeling down beside the two girls, her eyes flickered briefly to the young boy with the wounded knee and she nodded, the look in her eyes softening "It'll be alright, now. Sit tight and we'll fix that right up."
Her gaze moved to Bella and while she didn't smile, there was an encouragement in the look she gave, "I'll need some space, Miss Hill."
Wand in hand, she at last looked to the light haired girl she recognized from their summer trip, "Try to stay still, Little One. This won't take long." Rolling back what was left of the tattered sleeve, she touched the tip of her wand to the edge of the jagged gash and carefully, traced it, "Vulnera Sanentur..." As she spoke, the blood flow seemed to slow, the cease all together and from the wand tip that brushed the girl's arm, intense warmth. Softly, she repeated the incantation twice more, and as though invisible stitches were being sewn, the gash began to knit shut, first from within, where the deep tissue and nerves resided, then the skin itself.
"There, now. Miss Hill... She'll need to see the nurse. Tell her essence of dittany and a calming drought, I think, for the both of you. When you've seen to all this, I'd like you to come by my office, as well. Miss Aurelius, you're going to be just fine. Won't even scar. Go on, now. Off with you both... I'll take care of our young friend here."

The shock of the past few minutes still had Luna reeling. She had come to the defense of an admitted enemy, quite out of character for her. The physical pain had subsided, but Luna felt like Professor Henley was correct and she should go to the nurses at the very least. She just needed a couple moments to calm down, get her bearings, and make the actual journey.
She glanced over at Isabella. Their disagreement had begun over high tensions. Perhaps it would be broken over them as well. Upon introspection, Luna wasn't sure what had motivated her. Was it logic? The fact that the older boy was clearly in the wrong? Or was is the memory of her own past? How no one had ever come to her defense, and she knew how badly she had ever wanted that in any number of situations. Was it because she simply knew the passionate Slytherin girl? Despite the animosity between the pair of girls, Luna had still had a slight admiration for her ability to jump to the defense of anyone. Maybe a part of Luna had wanted to emulate that? In the end, the whys didn't matter. All that did matter was that it had happened, and now they needed to move forward.
She looked back down to her left arm. The spell cast by Professor Henley had worked wonders, and Luna wondered if she could convince the Charms teacher to teach it to her, just in case. Maybe one day Luna could help someone else with it. She decided she should visit the Charms teacher's office later to inquire if it was even a possibility. She felt no more pain, that much was a relief. Her skin was as pale and together as it had ever been, no sign that just a couple minutes earlier it had been running run with her lifeblood. She pushed the matter from her mind, as she needed to start heading to the nurse.
Her eyes tracked back to Bella. Besides the fact that the Professor had told them to go together, it was a good idea on its own. She faced the Charms Professor.
"Thank you for your kindness, Professor. It's deeply appreciated." She turned back to Bella. "Should we head off then Bella? What do you think?" She was unsure how the girl would react. Would she reject Luna outright? It wouldn't be unreasonable. They held no love for each other before this incident. Or would she accompany Luna begrudgingly? Simply because the Professor had asked her to do so. Or was this the start of them finally working together? Luna marveled at what the future may hold if that were the case. Her gaze held steady, as her resolve was set no matter the outcome.

Moving back as the professor told her too, the guilt started to flood through her body. That spell had been meant for her. Her. Not Luna. No matter how much she hated someone, she would rather take a spell like that herself than have them take it for her. She could never wish harm on another human being. Looking down at her hands covered in blood that didn’t belong to her, a thousand questions started to run through her head. The most important being why? She hadn’t needed to, she could of simply walked away and left her to be dealt to by the bully. Why had she placed herself between her and certain pain.
“W-what? A ca-calming drought?” Was all she managed to stutter at the professors instructions to go to the hospital wing, and then to her office. Was she in trouble? Was she going to get expelled? She probably deserved it, provoking an older student like that. She wouldn’t be at all surprised if she was being sent home for good. Zoning out into her own thoughts, her eyes found their way towards the Second Year Ravenclaw arm - that looked almost perfectly healed.
“Huh? What? Oh, yea. We should. Thank you professor. I don’t know what would of happened if you hadn’t of been here.” Snapping her head back up to look at the professor and the student, she nodded her head - trying to stop her hands from shaking.
She was slightly afraid of what the Ravenclaw would do to her on their walk towards the hospital wing. Was she one of the people that believed in an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth? Surely she wouldn’t attack her outright while walking through the corridors - especially not with so many professors within the school.
Taking a few shaky steps forward, she turned around - indicating for the Ravenclaw to follow her. “So, I’ll see you in your office then professor?” She double checked, mostly talking to herself. She was sure she wasn’t getting expelled, but being asked to go to a professors office after setting a boys head on fire was never a good sign. She definitely wouldn’t rule detention out of the possible conversation. But even so, he had cast his spell first - it was self-Defense in muggle law wasn’t it? Did it work the same way in wizarding law?
Choosing instead to focus on surviving her trip to the hospital wing first, she turned around - walking away without a look back to see if the Ravenclaw was following her, relying solely on her ears to for the tell-tale sign of footsteps that told her she was being followed by the complicated Second Year.
