The morning seemed quiet as Lily walked towards the Great Lake, eyes moving from side to side as she looked around, before settling under a tree near the edge of the water. She placed her textbooks under the tree, looking out to where the sun reflected off the lake, smiling slightly as she moved forwards, touching the water with her hand, before pulling it back, feeling the cold of the water. It was very cold, as it had just been winter, so she pulled her hand away, looking at the lake.

The water was a light green mixed with blue. The ground around her was covered in different rocks and grasses. She allowed herself to relax on the ground, staring at the sky.

She should really be studying for her classes that would start the next day, however, she decided that she would rather lay here and watch the clouds. She watched as each cloud moved over the sky, her fingers tapping on the ground before she pulled herself up, grabbing one of her books. It was ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, by Newt Scamander. She enjoyed that book, however, she placed it to the side, picking up a different book. She picked up ‘A History of Magic’, by Bathilda Bagshot, opening it in her lap. She read each word, her excitement for the subject growing. This was one of the subjects she was looking forwards to this year.

She didn’t like the idea of Defence Against the Dark Arts, nor Flying, however, she liked the idea of the rest. Transfiguration was one that she was extremely excited about.

As Annabelle shifted into a more comfortable position, she couldn’t help but to notice someone sitting below her. Swinging into a sitting position, Annabelle tried to get a glimpse of the student. Sighing, she moved onto a much lower branch and flipped upside down, as kill she had perfected over the years of climbing trees in her childhood.
Feet and knees securely in place, Annabelle twisted a little to get a glimpse of the person under her tree. Slytherin. Curly hair. Studying, possibly? Annabelle figured she shouldn’t be bothering her.
Sighing, Annabelle swung back up after a few swings to gain momentum. Focused in her book, she was pretty sure the girl hadn’t seen her. Annabelle dusted off her legs and grabbed a higher branch. She needed to retrieve her hat and sketchpad. Annabelle had been working on a drawing of the view from the treetops. The lake was beautiful. Flowers were just starting to blossom; it was the beginning of spring. Annabelle wasn’t impressed by the view after so many failed attempts. She snatched her hat, placed it onto her head, and clicked her pen shut before sliding it into the rings of the pad. She slid down the tree. Her hand fought on a knob, and Annabelle grunted as she lost control and throttled down right next to the girl she was trying not to bother.

Lily flicked each page of the book, reading every passage from Bathilda, her eyes wide as she smiled. She moved her finger across the passages, then over the pictures. She turned the page, intrigued with the writing, before running her finger underneath the sentence she was on. She liked the writing, although it was a bit more like an essay then what she preferred.

She had just turned the page when she heard a crack from the tree above her. She looked up, just as the other girl fell out of the tree. She gasped, jumping up, abandoning her book and moved closer to where the girl was, a smile on her face as she looked at her.

“You ok? Do you need to go to the Hospital Wing?” She asked, looking at the other girl, hand held out to help her up. She looked back over her shoulder towards where she had abandoned her books, making sure they were out of the water. Luckily they were several metres from the water.

She looked at the girl. ‘Blue robes... Ravenclaw? What was she doing up there? Is she my age? No second year or third year would stay in the trees.’

Annabelle groaned. The fall wasn't bad compared to some she'd taken over the past few years (she'd broken her left arm and both legs at various times), but it still hurt. The ground was littered with rocks and roots. It wasn't a nice landing. Such a pretty place.A pity she fell. The view was really nice above everyone else down below.
The face blurred over her. "You ok? Do you need to go to the Hospital Wing? The words sounded a bit muffled. Annabelle blinked a few times until her vision became clearer. The ringing in her ears subsided and she let a breath out. She'd be fine.
She seems nice. I think lots of people are nice here. That's a welcome change from home."Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks, though." Annabelle slowly pushed herself onto her knees. She winced. "I'm not at my prime but I'll be alright."
She glanced at the girl. I should probably stop calling her the girl. Introductions, then. Annabelle worked her way to her feet. "I'm Annabelle." She smiled at the girl, who was a bit taller than her, and extended her hand. Do people do handshakes anymore? Oh, well. It's really the only way I know that works.

Lily looked at the girl, as she slowly got to her knees, listening to her speak. “Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks, though.”

Lily raised an eyebrow, looking over the girl as she checked if there was something wrong , before dismissing the thought. She looked like she had fallen before, so she shouldn’t be that hurt.

“I’m Annabelle.” The other girl stated, offering her hand for a handshake.

“I’m Lily.” She said, kindly, shaking the other girl’s hand. She smiled, before speaking.

“What year are you in? I didn’t see you on the train, but then I didn’t see many people. I sat with another first year Slytherin, so...”

‘Hopefully she’s first year. I need to meet more people my age.’ Lily thought as she watched the other girl. She looked back over her shoulder to where she left her books, looking and cringing at the way she left her beloved textbook. She looked at Annabelle, hands fiddling with her robes.
Her hands moved on the edges of her sleeves, scrunching up the sleeves and making them all creased. She didn’t know if she’d said the right thing, but she hoped she did.

“Lily.” Annabelle nodded. “And yeah- I was on the train, but I just sat with some random people that I don’t know. I haven’t started classes yet. I think I’ll like transfiguration and care of magical creatures. How about you?” She smiled at Lily. It was a nice name. Lily seemed like someone Annabelle could get to know and like.
Annabelle was certainly interested in care of magical creatures, specifically phoenixes. She was obsessed with most birds, mainly cockatoos. But magical birds? Another cup of tea entirely. She loved phoenixes and had earlier studied them in the library. She was obsessed with them and had recently been interested in learning about dragons.
“Oh, and call me Anna.” Annabelle smiled. Normally only close friends called her Anna, but then again, Lily felt good to be around. Annabelle had pretty good intuition and she hoped Lily would be a friend. That’d make two friends that I have. Still, it’s only my first day.
Now that Annabelle was off the tree, she gave Lily a closer look. A bit taller than she was- not unusual, considering Anna was a bit of a midget, petite and learning towards short. She was a vegetarian, the main reason why she was considered frail. On the contrary, Lily looked tall (most people did, when compared to Anna) and had hazel eyes while Anna’s were a bright brown.

Lily smiled, looking at the other girl as she listened to what she was saying, before perking up when she heard about the other girl’s interests. “Oh! Cool! I haven’t started classes yet, but I’m looking forwards to everything except Defence Against the Dark Arts and Flying. Honestly, I don’t like heights, nor the idea of fighting other people. People don’t really talk things out with each other. They tend to just fight.”

Lily smiled when the other girl told her to call her Anna. Perhaps they could be good friends because of their same interests. “I enjoy the textbooks though, especially Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them and a History Of Magic. It’s fun! I really like history and animals!”

Lily smiled, thinking of her father’s snakes at her home. She missed them and couldn’t wait to get home to see them. She wanted to bring a pet to school after the summer holidays, so she could play with something other then the other students.

Lily smiled, before turning and gathering her books, placing them in a nice pile.

Annabelle nodded. "Defense against the dark arts. I'd be able to fight, but you're right- people just start fighting instead of talking first. People can be so stupid sometimes- issues can be resolved with words, not just wands."

Annabelle tilted her head as Lily spoke. "Yeah. History of Magic was last on my list; it's one of two books I haven't read yet. But Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was really good! So much information on pygmy puffs and nifflers. The part on dragons was really nice too."

Lily smiled, as within a memory. Anna smiled too; she wasn't remembering anything, but it was a great day to smile. It hadn't been a day, and she'd already made two friends who seemed more interesting than anyone back home (except her cockatoo. Her cockatoo beat everyone else).

Lily picked up her books, shifting them into a neat stack. Annabelle picked up her dropped hat and attempted to straighten it on her head. "Do you know if we have to wear these things all the time? Mine never seems to stay on, and when it does, it's always crooked. Also, it's kind of itchy." She scratched her hair before trying one last time. "Ah. There."

“I don’t even bother wearing the hat. Honestly? It’s so annoying that if the teachers want me to wear it, I’ll tell them it’s at my dorm, cause mine is almost always in my book bag.”

Lily paused, thinking of her first class of the day, Charms. “I actually will end up with Charms first up, since that’s my first class. Hopefully the class isn’t hard and they don’t give us that much homework. Imagine if they gave us pages of homework on our first day!”

Lily paused, looking at her books. “I also heard that the Astronomy teacher is a Dhampmir from one of the other first years who had him yesterday. Honestly, as long as he’s a good teacher, then I’m good. It sucks when you get a bad teacher for an awesome subject.”

Lily turned her head towards where a small sparrow landed on the tree near them, watching the small bird as it realised that it had landed near people and took off again. “You know what? If I come out here every day with food, maybe the birds will trust me enough to sit on my hand as I’m feeding them. There’s sparrows back at my house who do that.”

Annabelle smiled. "Good idea. I wasn't sure if you had to wear the hat, but I don't have classes yet, so maybe I don't." With some satisfaction, she removed the itchy accessory from her head, grabbing the pointy tip.

"Pages of homework on your first day? Eek. I'm not sure yet what my first class will be." Annabelle shrugged. "Maybe it'll be Charms, too, and we'll be in the same class. I wonder if different Houses are together."

"Yeah! The Damphir is actually the head of my house, so... And I kinda forgot about Astronomy but I doubt it'll be dull." She paused. "He's my head of house, so he can't be bad."

Annabelle took notice of the sparrows for the first time. "We didn't get many birds back where I lived, but it'd be fun to feed them and stuff." She looked at the large clock on one of the Hogwarts towers. "Crap- it's almost one. I'd been wanting to meet up with a friends soon. Sorry, but I've got to go. It really was nice to meet you though!" Annabelle smiled, and in a hurry, dashed off. At the last second she remembered to grab her pointy had from where she had dropped it on the ground.

(OOC: Adding you to my friends list!)
