What Lies Below the Water PV Saskia Closed

The Great Lake wasn't something new to Saskia, though it was always nice to admire the view every time she came to visit. The waters were a pretty teal colour, and the sun's rays reflected off the surface to give the lake some vibrancy and life to it. Under normal circumstances, she would take the time to admire it a little more, but right now, she had a job to do. Plus, it would have been rude if she kept her new friend waiting.

After making sure to take her shoes and socks off, Saskia placed them by one of the trees that happened to be close by the lake. Now that she was walking without her shoes, she could quite literally feel the grass tickling her feet. It wasn't a bad thing, however. In fact, the girl had grown so used to going barefoot when she was younger that running on gravel barely phased her anymore. It was actually refreshing to be able to run around and feel the earth below her. For a brief moment, it reminded her of a time when she was truly free to do whatever she wanted. A time when she could simply run outside along the trees without having to worry about anything else. But that was the past. Something that she could never truly replicate. But creating new memories was always better.

Saskia walked over to join Sylvie, who was already by the lake. She smiled to herself, looking over at the other girl. Sylvie already seemed so excited, and they had barely started with their search. Saskia was glad that the girl shared her enthusiasm, and she could already tell that this investigation would be a lot more fun with her around.

The girl sat beside Sylvie, letting her legs dangle under the water while resting her hands on the grass. The water was freezing cold, but Saskia wasn't very bothered by it. Despite the frigidness, the water felt nice, and once she got used to it, she could barely feel the cold.

"So, what are we supposed to do when we're searching for this creature? Do we just wait until it shows? Or is there a way for it to come up?" she asked, looking over at Sylvie with curiosity.

Sylvie heard the sound of Saskia making her way over to her and sitting down next to her. Ripples formed around the area where the other girl had dipped her feet in. 

"So, what are we supposed to do when we're searching for this creature? "

Could they use bread? Saskia wasn't sure if squids liked bread, or could even eat it to begin with. But then again, the creature was not a regular squid. Even then, the squid didn't necessarily have to eat the bread. It might have made for good bait for the squid to rise up to investigate where the bread was coming from. But what if the bait didn't work? Would they technically be polluting the water with bread? Was it even allowed to throw stuff in the water? Clearly Saskia needed to brush up on her knowledge of the school rules.

Then it dawned on her that the bread idea might not even work. Sylvie already pointed out that the squid might not be able to smell the bread underwater, but that wasn't what Saskia was worried about. What she was more concerned about was that the bread might have been too light to actually sink underwater. Maybe the plan would have worked if the bread was tied to a heavy object, or if they cast a spell that would make the bread sink easily, but there were already so many complications with that plan that the girl figured it was probably best to leave it alone.

"No, you aren't rambling. Don't worry about it. And that's fine. We can find another way to get the creature up," Saskia assured the other girl with a quick smile before looking back to narrow her eyes at the lake.

So, now that the bread plan was out of the question, they needed to come up with something else. If they wanted to bait the creature, they would have to either try something heavier, or try another way without having to throw things underwater.

"Do you think if we just did something with the water, maybe splash around or something, the creature would just try to see what the ruckus is about?" she asked, letting out a sigh as she tried to think of more ideas. "If that doesn't work, then maybe we just throw something that would get the creature's attention. Doesn't have to be food, but it can't be something that would contaminate the water or hurt the creature," she added with a shrug.

"No, you aren't rambling. Don't worry about it. And that's fine. We can find another way to get the creature up,"

"You mean to throw a big rock or something like that into the water?"

Saskia frowned, moving her legs in the water as she spoke. "I guess. Anything that could actually sink in the water rather than float around. It just has to be something that wouldn't actually hurt the creature so we don't scare it away."

A big rock would be the ideal object to use in this situation- it was heavy enough and it would have been easy to find rocks in the area. Still, she didn't want to actually hit the creature with it. It might have worked even if she did, but she didn't want to anger the creature or drive it further away from them. She wasn't sure if there was also a rule on disturbing or infuriating the creature, but either way, she didn't want to risk it.

"I think the second idea could be good, but we might have to wait for a bit because it'll probably be scared at first."

Saskia nodded at her decision. She still thought that they could use the first idea as a last resort in order to get the creature to notice something happening above the surface, but she figured the second idea would be quicker and more effective in the long run. "You're right. Looks like we'll just have to wait then."

She turned towards the still waters of the lake, absentmindedly looking at her blurry reflection on the surface. She didn't feel like looking at herself in particular, but it was still interesting to see everything else that lied below the water. She could make a few outlines of various rocks, and some plants that she couldn't remember the names of. There was definitely a lot of seaweed though, and there was still that empty space where the squid probably lived in.

Then she realized just how silent it was. Other than the gentle waves of the lake and the summer breeze carrying in the air, everything was quiet. She even almost forgot Sylvie was there beside her. Now that they weren't doing much of anything, it was the perfect opportunity to get to know her new friend a bit better.

"So, is there anything you want to talk about while we wait?" she asked, facing the girl with a sheepish grin.

"You're right. Looks like we'll just have to wait then."

Sylvie gently kicked her legs in the water as the two girls waited some more for something to show up. Maybe a tentacle would pop up or they would see a shadow swim by so they at least knew it was there. "It's a nice day out." The girl thought as she closed her eyes and felt the sun warm up her body. 

"So, is there anything you want to talk about while we wait?"

She bit the inside on her mouth and pointed her finger, placing it on the side of her face as she thought. They'd already talked about the squid that lived beneath the water and a bit about the other creatures. Random, she remembered that summer was quickly approaching, and with it came summer vacation when she would see her sister and father again. "Well, like I said while we were walking, the weather makes it seems like summer is quickly approaching," Sylvie shielded her eyes from the sun with her hand, and looked into the sky. "So, what are your plans for the summer? I heard about a summer camp that goes on here. Are you attending that? It sounds fun, but if I went my sister would surely kill me," The girl said, giggling. Her sister was probably dying to see her again, after all it had been almost a whole year. They hadn't really been apart that much until that year.
