Veronica had a hard time accepting the fact that she was actually in the school of her dreams. Hogwarts, the place where her parents met and fell in love. She decided that she needed to go and explore the campus before her classes actually began.

Her first stop was going to be the great lake. She heard about all the times her parents spent time out there, that she just had to see it for herself. Making her way down to the lake, she was instantly struck with the beauty that it radiated in the sunlight. "It's so beautiful!" Her smile brightened as seh watched a few fish jump up out of the water, their scales looking like parts of a rainbow. Finding her way over to a tree, Veronica sat down and pulled her sketchbook out of her bag. "This scene is going to make a beautiful card for my parents." Veronica instantly began to sketch the scene with expert artistic stroaks. She managed to capture everything, from the fish in the water to the wind through the trees. After everything was drawn in, Roni began to add the highlights and shadows to everything in the picture.

Katie was reading, but outside this time. old habits die hard, and her family had always set the rule that if she was going to read all day, every day, then she had to go outside at least once a week. something about 'reading in the fresh air' being 'good for the heart, soul, mind, and spirit.' Katie wasn't sure if that was ENTIRELY correct but she was alright with it. and she honestly did enjoy being outside for a bit. she'd found a spot near the lake far away from anywhere else, and she'd even brought herself a snack. she was all prepared for a relaxing afternoon.

then a girl showed up, probably not having even seen her. Katie immidiately shrunk back, being quiet and nervous and not wanting to interact, when she realized that... hey. this was the griffin- door. the one who could sing, who was nice to her.

ronnie.

so, very quietly, Katie spoke up. "r-ronnie?" she asked, willing to shut up if this wasnt her or she just didnt hear the whispered tone. Katie wasnt quite sure she WANTED ronnie to hear. but now that it was out of her mouth the girl in blue couldnt take it back.

Roni was so busy with her drawing that she hadn't noticed the young girl sitting next to her. She let out a small squeak as she was not expecting someone to speak to her. "Yeah that's me. Who are..." She cut herself off as she saw who had spoken to her. It was Katie, one of her new friends."Hey Katie! How's it going?" She remembered how Katie was extremely shy and timid around people, even new friends.

Roni got up from her spot and moved over to sit down next to Katie. "What are you reading? Anything good?" She placed her sketchbook down next to her, as she sat across from the brunette. She glanced at the lake and saw the sun starting to set slowly.

when ronnie turned around, half of Katie wanted to turn tomato and the other half wanted to smile. so apparently the compromise was do both, and then freeze that way for a few seconds. she'd been remembered, after a hot second. Katie was, firstly, excited, because she liked ronnie a lot. but then she freaked out internally. what if she was remembered for being that weird kid who didn't talk??? oh no.

now katie was tounge tied all over again, although she felt exponentially more comfortable here than she had in that ballroom. she was never going near that place ever again, it was too scary.

when talk turned to her book, she smiled. Maybe ronnie didnt think she was weird. she didnt seem to be avoiding talking to her, or trying to get herself out of it. Granted, that might not mean much. Ronnie was such a kind person, Katie could imagine her pretending to be interested for the sake of someone else's feelings, no matter how she really felt. "yes. book..." she had to check the cover to remember exactly what it was she was reading at the moment. "It's called the hunger games, have you heard of it?"

Roni giggled to herself when she noticed how flustered Katie got while interacting with others her age. She is so cute! I've never met anyone who could get so flustered in one conversation. Listening to the young ravenclaw she drew a blank. "Hunger...Games? What's that? Someone starving themselves for sport? Sounds horrific." Her face contorted in disgust. "Who would ever write something so awful! Name the Wizard that wrote it and I'll turn them into a slug!" She was halfway joking. Roni hated it when others were cruel to people. It just wasn't right, but she had to remind herself that it was only a book, and hopefully not based on actual events. "But to answer your question, no, I've not read it. Nor would I wish to if it's about a game where people watch other's pain for their own sick amusement."

It baffled her how so many people could stand by and watch while others were being harmed, which made her feel even worse for the elves that would work for magical families. She loved her family elf though, Ruggy was a wonderful worker, and an amazing friend to her. She'd never treat him cruely, nor let her family show any cruelty towards him.

“Nooo.” She corrected, giggling slightly at ronnie’s Assumption. The idea of turning someone into a frog for cruelty to a literary character was very funny, no matter how awkward she got around new people.

“It’s a muggle book. About a fake world where this mean old white guy named president snow rules over a country with 12 districts and a capitol. The capitol gets all the money and food while the districts starve and work hard. So they do this thing every year to keep the districts in line. They randomly pick one girl and boy from each of the 12 districts and have them fight to the death. Only one gets out. It’s all fake though.” She assured her friend with a smile.

“But here’s the thing about the hunger games, the death fight. If you WIN it, you get a bunch of money and fancy house and food. So some people train for it from the districts, and in the capitol it’s like a reality TV show. Crazy, right?” Katie, just like that, was out of her shell. Books and fictional lands were something she adored talking about. So it was all it took to get her to talk.

Roni was still quite confused but nodded her head anyway. She smiled brightened as she observed the instant change in Katie. She couldn't help but giggle. "Passionate about books are we? I haven't read a good book in quite some time. Though I love reading muggle books instead of books written by witches or wizards. All they do is poke fun at muggles or tell of adventures that they hadn't even experienced themselves. " Veronica wasn't' a big fan of books too much. She'd rather be out living and experiencing her own adventures instead of reading about someone else's.

"The only muggle books I've read are by an author called Rick Riordan? Ever heard of him? His books are quite good. He gives his characters powers that seem like magic. Water can heal, they can fly without brooms, they can convince anyone to do anything for them without casting a charm!" Her eyes sparkled as she attempted to describe her favorite books. If she were a muggle, Veronica would love to live with the characters is Rick Riordan's books. If only they were real. She sighed in disappointment and contentment.

she blushed deeply at the joking and spot on accusation. Yes, she did love books. adored them, actually. "books are the best. stories are my favorite." she nodded as ronnie went on. "i've never read a wizard book, just muggle ones.... but isnt that the point of story books? to make up and take your readers on grand adventures?" that was her favorite parts. dashing knights, grand fights... things she wasnt nearly half brave enough to do herself.

"PERCY JACKSON!" she immidiately identified, loudly. "they're only the bestest books in the whole entire world, duh! do you prefer heroes of olympus or the original five? who's your favorite character? Mine's annabeth. she's smart, and Kai says she's like me... or blackjack. the pegusus who can talk? Kai says he's like Grover. Free spirit who is in touch with nature. but i say if that's so great then where was Grover in heroes of olympus? and KAI says he was smart enough to get outta there before any of the real bad things went down." she smiled, laughing at her brothers words. they were the PJO fans in the family. so they talked about it. "which honestly, seems very fair if you ask me."

Veronica giggled as she watched Katie come further away from her shell. She was ecstatic to find another PJO fan. As Katie threw her questions, Roni was struggling a bit to keep up with the brunette. Well, let's see...Fav books, probably HoO, fav character has to be...Nico. Umm, I think that the reason Grover was in the HoO was that he was called to be someone else's protector. Percy grew up and could protect himself, so Grover needed to find a new Half-blood to protect." After hearing about Kai, Roni became very confused. "Who's Kai? Is he your lover or something? Maybe your brother? Is he a wizard like you? "

Roni was getting a bit ahead of herself. She would always jump at the opportunity to make new friends. Even if Kai wasn't a wizard, she'd still love to meet him. If she could find someone else to join in their conversation on PJO, her day...no life would be complete. Even though she doesn't normally read all that often, she was in love with Rick Riordan's book series. Although there was another book series that she was beginning to read. What was it called? Kingdom Keepers! Yeah, that's it. Maybe Katie's heard of it. "Have you ever heard of Kingdom Keepers?"

Katie nodded as veronica spoke. "grover was doing god of the wild stuff. Kai's just sillly like that." she said, in agreement. it was cool to have someone to geek out with over books, they were her favorite things. and then Roni asked about kai. is he your lover? Katie blushed into a fit of giggles. the day kai kissed her was the day she died. "no no no. he's my big brother. but not my biggest brother. I'm the youngest of nine." she explained, laughingly. as for being a wizard... kai as a wizard would be funny. he was the adventerous one, after all. "I'm a muggle born. only wizard in the family."

and then she got another book reccomendation. Katie had never heard of it before. she filed it away in her head as something to read as she shook her head. "never! but if it's good i will definitely check it out sometime." she said decidedly. "kingdom keepers." she said aloud, writing the name of the book series on her arm, that way she wouldnt forget before she got back to the dormitory. "it sounds like a good book." she offered. "what's it about, exactly?" Katie was curious
