So Many Questions...
@Sarah LightwoodAh yes, the Great Lake. One of Adlai's most prominent hung out spots. Although wanted the explore the school more to find new places to relax in, Adlai didn't quite feel like getting lost today, or any day of the week for that matter.
Recently things have in fact been looking a bit bright for her. She hadn't received much homework lately and her aunt hasn't sent her howler this week either.
Today she had woken up with a sudden burst of energy, so much so she cleaned up her area in her dorm and actually put in the effort to wear a bit a makeup that she had brought with her, which was mainly reserved for when the school held dances and such. Though half the time she wasn't sure if she'd go since she tends to be dwelling to the side of all the action while attending the parties...Nonetheless that wasn't the focus of her day.
Instead she was looking for a way to be productive when there wasn't much for her to do since she had gotten all that she currently needed to do, done.
And she wasn't exactly someone who worked ahead in class.
Thus now she sat pondering.

So Many Questions...
Sarah wasn’t one to lose her temper, not outwardly at least. She was more than well-versed at pushing down her emotions into the deepest part of her mind to be dealt with later - or preferably never. Growing up the way she had, surrounded by people with opinions which so strongly opposed her own helping her emotional control tenfold. But when she did let her anger get the better of her, it often blew up.
Her quick tongue was often to blame for the troubles she found herself in and that had been exactly what had happened this time. Having overheard a first year being insulted because of their ‘hand-me-down’ robes by a third year no less, she’d had to intervene. And perhaps provoking a bully wasn’t the best idea she’d ever had and perhaps it had ended in her with a potentially bruised rib, but she didn’t regret it. The first year had been overly appreciative and having the look of fear wiped off of their face and been worth the pain she was currently in.
Still, worried she’d only get into more trouble if she returned to the common rooms, she’d decided to have a walk down to the Great Lake to cool off. Muttering the incantations to a few of the spells she was currently trying to perfect, she held her wand in hand, spinning it around her fingers in a move she’d been practising for the next time she’d run into a certain Gryffindor boy. She smiled to herself at the thought, determined to master the action just to prove something to herself if nothing else.
Glancing up, her eyes caught sight of a girl mulling down by the lake, seemingly lost in thought. She looked familiar, Sarah had seen her in some of the classes she shared with Hufflepuff, but wasn’t sure she’d ever introduced herself. As a means to distract herself from the scuffle she’d just escaped, she decided to approach the girl. “Penny for your thoughts,” She said, smiling when she got close enough. It was something she’d picked up from a few of the muggle-borns and had taken a liking to it.

So Many Questions...
@Sarah LightwoodLooking to where the voice had come from Adlai returned a smile.
"No penny needed ma'am, I'm all ears." She turned her entire body into the strangers direction to show that the green haired girl had her full attention.
Adlai was sure she had seen the girl around some where in the school. In the halls, class, or even the great hall? Perhaps at a party? If she had she would have certainly remembered. Especially since she had such colorful hair. Adlai had always wanted to color her own hair, she found it a very interesting way to express oneself. Her mother would lose her mind if she ever did though. However she didn't mind it since she got to wear bright and color headscarfs instead.
Nonetheless not knowing she has seen this girl was about to drive her insane. Thus she pushed the issue to the back of her mind and focused more on as to why the girl would have approached her in the first place. Had some one told her of her? Or had it been a spur of the moment thing? She didn't mind either. But what also tickled her mind was what this girl may have to say to her.

So Many Questions...
The girl’s voice was smooth and her gentle smile was one which willed Sarah to just spill all of her troubles. She didn’t though, of course, having spent more than enough years learning how to control such things and avoid offering up too much information about herself. She was guarded, reluctant to trust most people, and a kind smile wasn’t enough to break such a habit. Still, it helped, and Sarah found herself falling into step beside the girl and releasing a deep sigh.
“Do you ever just want to scream?” The question fell past her lips before she had chance to stop it, a part of her subconscious letting the words slip out without her permission. It was a rather ridiculous question, especially one to ask a stranger, and the second Sarah realised what she’d asked, she was quick to correct her words as she looked out at the water. “I mean, there are so many people here, all from different backgrounds and families and each with their own thoughts and opinions. We’re bound to clash with others sometimes because that’s what people do, they have opinions which might upset or offend people, which might be completely and entirely wrong, but we’re expected to just accept that and not do anything about it,” she realised she was running out a breath and caught herself from going off on a tangent. She knew her words weren’t entirely coherent and that this girl might well think she was entirely bonkers for saying hem.
“Sorry,” She said after a few moments had passed, an almost shy smile on her face as she glanced at the girl. “I just overheard something I wish I hadn’t.” In an attempt to salvage this rather strange meeting, the Slytherin attempted to start again with a proper introduction this time. “Hi, I’m Sarah, and I promise I don’t usually go off ranting to strangers usually,” She chuckled softly, realising that her words hadn’t been strictly true. She had in fact started many a relationship by going off on an unexpected tangent. Still, she hoped she’d not scared the girl away just yet. "Bet you're wishing for that penny now," She grinned.

So Many Questions...
@Sarah LightwoodAdlai nodded as the girl spoke, she knew exactly what she was talking about as Adlai had experienced those same emotions herself a few times. It was hard not to as people who constantly talking and learning and things begin to spread. She tried her best not to pay attention to such things though as they seemed to cloud her personal judgement of others and specific topics.
Nonetheless it was rare for Adlai to act on any other emotion other than happiness, perhaps fear every once and awhile but never anger or sadness, at least not to her knowledge.
Pulling herself out of her thoughts she learned that the green haired girl's name was Sarah. Giving Sarah another wide smile she held her hand out to her. "I'm Adlai, Adlai Rod. And again, no penny needed as the thoughts are a reward enough." She said.
People at this school we indeed strange as they offer Adlai things that are not needed in order for them to speak to her or spend time with her, it was almost as if they didn't know why someone to care for them with material purpose. She knew that wasn't the case though, right?

So Many Questions...
Sorry for the super long delay.“Pleasure,” Sarah smiled, pleased that this girl didn’t seem too put off by her words - nor too upset that her silence had been interrupted. Adlai, the girl supplied and Sarah smiled as the Hufflepuff took her hand. She couldn’t help but let out a light laugh at her words. She highly doubted that getting an earful from a strange Slytherin girl was how she’d best like to spend her days, likely just trying to save face. Adlai was no doubt being gracious about it, but Sarah found herself more than appreciating the gesture.
“I’m sorry that I came over here all unannounced,” Sarah found herself apologising, something she didn’t do as often as she perhaps should. “Please don’t hesitate to tell me to bugger off,” She grinned, feeling as though the offer needed to be extended. She hoped the girl wouldn’t take it however, as she already felt herself calming hugely and knew she needed the distraction.
Sarah’s eyes once again landed on the Great Lake, the dark waters hiding creatures which lurked beneath. She’d had her fair share of interactions with such creatures, whether it be of the time she’d slipped - or been pushed - into the waters last year, or of the creatures which seemed to found of looking through the windows of the windows in the Slytherin common room. Nova, her cat, was always pleasantly amused by the Grindylows which were apparently strangely fond of cats. The thought brought a smile to her face as she turned back to look at Adlai. “So, what is it you’re doing out here? Trying to escape as well or just thinking?” She asked, her innate curiosity often leading to intrusive questions which she knew some didn’t like to answer. Still, she hoped the girl would.

So Many Questions...
@Sarah Lightwood"Oh no, it's no big deal. I was hoping for some company actually." She told Sarah once she had told her that she was free to send her off if Adlai didn't wish for her presence. Adlai then followed Sarah's gaze to the water before answering her innocently curious question.
"I'm sort of just trying to keep my mind off things," She stated. The past few days for Adlai had been hectic indeed between trying to keep up with classes, to writing letters to her family, and even trying to figure out Christmas presents for her friends who celebrated the world wide holiday.
"Since the first semester is rapping up everything and everybody seems to be in such a rush. Sometimes it's nice to just slow down and take it easy during all the chaos."
Saying this was rather relaxing for Adlai as she was very much so a social butterfly and her lack of social interaction had been getting to her recently. However now, an ich she couldn't quite reach had been scratched. Laying down in the grass Adlai took in a deep breathe and looked up at the darkened sky. The sun hadn't been out as much as the seasons changed and the temperature cooled. Even if the sun had been out it would have likely been hidden away by the large clouds that rolled across the sky.

So Many Questions...
Sarah smiled, pleased her presence wasn’t a complete nuisance. Apparently blowing off steam by talking to strangers was now something she enjoyed doing. The revelation came as somewhat of a surprise to the young Slytherin who never usually allowed her thought and feelings to be seen by others. Sure, it wasn’t as though she’d just admitted any of her deepest darkest secrets – of which there were a few – but even just the brief admittance of being irritated was out of character. She wasn’t sure whether it was a change she was pleased about, supposing she’d see how this interaction went and decide from there.
“Anything particular on your mind? I’ve spilled my thoughts, feel free to do the same,” Sarah chuckled lightly, the noise turning into a sigh as a small shiver wracked her body. The air was chilly despite not even being December yet, and Sarah found herself wishing she was wearing her charmed coat which her aunt had gifted her last year, her leather jacket not quite fighting off the breeze. The movement did nothing to help her bruising side and she realised regretfully that she’d likely be stiff for the next few days.
As Adlai settled against the grass, Sarah let her mind run over the words she’d just spoken. She found they rather hit the nail on the head. There was rarely a day she didn’t get accidentally knocked into in the corridors recently, everyone always hurrying to get from one place to the next. She didn’t mind it too much, she herself keeping busy enough to distract from the fact that next month she’d be going home – or rather back to the manor. She’d realised that her idle brain was often her worst enemy. Still, she found she too was enjoying the cool and quiet air, only interrupted by the girls’ words and the faint rustle of leaves in nearby trees.
She let herself settle beside the girl, laying back to look at the sky. “You’re right, it’s nice to just take a moment to breathe every now and then,” Sarah admitted, taking a dramatically deep breath as if to prove her point, and laughing to herself as she let it out.

So Many Questions...
@Sarah Lightwood"My thought? Well as of right now they are mainly comprised of what I should make my friends as a gift for the holidays since those are right around the corner, though I personally have no celebrations around this time a year, it's always nice to show your appreciation of someone. At least in my opinion." She had buzzing with ideas for the past week with what she could make, and who she should give what to who. Though she was sure she'd make everything last minute with how bad her procrastination was getting recently.
"Aside from that I'm just glad I'll be coming home. As much as I love it here, I love my family more. On top of that I miss all my non Hogwarts friends. Over all it's just nice going someplace you know won't change..."
For Adlai many things had been changing, things she wasn't sure she was ready to change. But nonetheless, she was growing up and so were the people and place around her. However, the one thing that would stay constant was home.
"It is nice...to just let it all stop, to not be in such a rush as we all seem to be these days." Adlai commented after Sarah spoke.
