Fridays. God, she hated Fridays. While for most of the student body, Friday meant getting to finally look forward to a weekend of leaisure, for may Slytherin students, including herself, it was different. Friday meant to sleep the night before because of the burning and pain that gradually intensified, it meant forcing yourself to your feet and getting dressed to go to the Hospital Wing to get your weekly dose of Thick Golden Potion, and waiting for it to take effect, then spending the rest of the day exhausted and drained of strength and energy, but having to carry on normally anyway.@Kyle DeRook
That was her Friday routine. At least now classes were over for the day, and with time to spend before dinner, Illowy found herself simply wanting some peace away from the high energy of the student body. She made her way over the grounds slowly, telling herself it was her choice to move so carefully as to enjoy the cool air of an encroaching autumn. On her heels trotted Killian, keen as ever to keep close to his mistress.
As she wandered, a familiar figure of her cousin came into focus and she smile to herself, making her way to him by the water, "Hey." she greeted softly, offering a smile as she nudged the strap of her bag off her shoulder and set it on one of the massive rocks she loved so much. Carefully climbing atop on, she looked back over her shoulder at him, taking him in for a second as the cat found himself a warm place to lay in the sun, preferring not to be closer to the water then absolutely necessary.
Her beloved cousin looked so different these days, though it didn't take a genius to figure why. His steely blue eyes were troubled and tired against his pale, scarred skin. He didn't hold himself quite as well as he use to before his own curse. What bothered her the most, at least at the moment, was his dark hair. He'd let it grow out to his shoulders, which was fine. But it was wild and unkempt in a way that made her own dark and confused tresses look tame. She planned to rectify that as she smiled and patted the empty space on the massive boulder in front of her, "C'mon. Sit down."
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Kyle stood at the edge of the lake with his hands resting in the pockets of his leather jacket. It was clearly well loved and had been worn a long time from the distressed parts, wearing of the leather, and by the fact that it was, admittedly, getting a little too small for him. It didnt matter though, he loved his jacket and even though closing and zipping it was difficult if left open it still looked good and it was comfortable. Besides, The boy didnt like change all that much if he was being honest.
He was at the lake today because his Cousin had asked to meet him here, for what he wasn't sure but he wasn't going to turn her down. Especially not when he didnt have a good reason or excuse. last year he could have said he had quidditch practice, but now a days if he wasnt spacing out in class or serving detention his time was mostly spent just sulking alone. He didn't even play wizards chess as much as he used to. Maybe this is what he needed, a break from the monotony and doing some not...violent.
When she arrived he offered a little half smile and a nod but simple arched a brow at her order to sit down infront of her as she sat on a rock. He opened his mouth to protest but he stopped himself. She was going to nag at him, or just use word ninja skills on him and the end result was going to be him sitting down infront of her regardless so he decided to save himself the time and frustration and he just let out a sigh and shrugged. "Hey Kyle, hows it going. Ah its going alright magpie, didn't fall off my broom like a git in flying today. Oh cool I wish I could fly as good as you" he engaged in a sarcastic pseudo-conversation as he walked over at sat before her with his back to her.

Illowy chuckled, rolling her eyes a bit as the lad carried on the sarcastic conversation with himself before doing what she'd asked while she pulled her fingerless, knit gloves off along with her hat and set them aside. It felt like eons since the pair could hang out. Between conflicting schedules, much less the horrors of the year previous, they hadn't had much time to spend together. At least now, before either of them got caught up in the mysteries and extracurricular activities of Hogwarts, they might spend at least a little quality time together, "Since when do ye like small talk?" she teased, crossing her legs under herself and pulling her bag into her lap.@Kyle DeRook
From the bag, she retrieved a brush and a small sachet containing tiny hairbands and a handful of silver beads. Looking back to her work ahead, the girl paused to observe his worn and nearly dilapidated jacket. How we was still comfortably wearing the thing that must've been too small for him by now was beyond her. Then again, she was never much one to wear jackets if she could help it, her mother always opting for her to wear more traditional cloaks and capes. She made a mental note of his garment though in consideration of his birthday coming up soon.
"Well, I'm glad you didn't 'fall off your broom like a git'." she chuckled again, picking up the brush, "Keep still okay?" she instructed before thin, gentle fingers moved to pull his hair back over his shoulders. Well practiced in the keeping and maintaining of long hair, the girl started at his ends and worked her way up brushing out the tangles, taking care to use a gentle hand, "Ye know, if yer gon keep your hair long, you might as well do something with it once in a while." she spoke thoughtfully once the brush was smoothing its way easily through his hair. In her opinion, having your hair brushed was one of the most relaxing things one might experience.

Kyle frowned some. It was true he had never been one for small talk. It was all just noise. If he was going to talk he wanted to have something to say, something that mattered and when people would drone on to him about useless things it just made him want to rip his hair out. But, despite that the idea of just sitting and talking about...well nothing seemed almost better than the alternative. He still hadn't forgiven himself for chasing, and nearly killing her while transformed at the start of last year and between the strange attacks and crazy situations that kept cropping up there seemed to be very little that wasnt troubling to speak about for the most part. He missed talking about the Kestrels and how they were doing. Now that he thought of it, he didnt know how they were doing at all this season...
He heard the objects being moved and the slight jingle of the silver beads from behind him before she started touching his hair. "Ah cmon Magpie dont mother hen me..." he groaned before she started brushing.
He had combed his hair before, or rather his mother combed his hair for him when he needed to look nice, but he had never had his hair this long or had it brushed before and to be honest. It was horrid. The brush pulled though his hair that hadnt seen proper care in a very long time. Hell, it hadnt seen proper shampoo let alone conditioner in ages. After all, soap cleans things. why cant you use soap on your hair? when he remembered to even do that. Cold showers were relaxing after all. He grimaced and let out little hisses every now and then as she brushed and fought the knots. "Ok...I give up. The hell did I do now? did I step on your cat and forget? cause this is reachin cruel and unusual..."

The girl rolled her eyes as he fussed and whined, "You didn't do anything. I'm doing something nice for you." she explained, ironic since it hardly seemed like it in the moment as she worked out another knot, "I promise I'm trying to be as gentle as I possibly can." the snake tucked a bit of her own hair behind her ear as she focused on the task at hand. Right now, she thought to herself, would have been a good time for her to have learned some kind of spell that removed insane hair tangles. Or maybe invested in a magical brush that could do all the legwork for her. She then wondered if he'd ever even touched a bottle of conditioner in his life.@Kyle DeRook
"I promise, if you hate it you can use the Hair Color-Changing Charm on me and turn mine bloody... green or something as revenge." she attempted to compromise, pressing her lips together as she worked on each tangle, one at a time.
Slowly, but surely, she managed to work the knots and tangles out until she was able to finally pull the bush through his hair smoothly down to his shoulders with minimal struggle.
She smile a bit proudly, though it had been a more exhausting task then expected for her already minimal level of energy. At least she'd tamed the rat's nest that was Kyky's hair, "See, that wasn't too bad, was it? It looks so much better now." she ran her fingers through his hair once more, trying to make sure she hadn't missed any knots, and once satisfied with her work, she gave a tired tug on the sleeve of his jacket, "'kay, now face me." the snake instructed, then looking back down into the sachet in her lap and digging through it to retrieve the first little hair tie.

The nice thing his cousin was doing for him seemed to take ages. Each time the brush ran through his hair was a fresh new layer of hell, but his cousin seemed determined so he was just going to deal with it and not take this from her. Plus, if he was being honest, the times the brush moved through easily without getting caught or tangled it did feel nice. and the human contact was something he was not really accustomed to. At least not in this fashion anyway.
Finally she was done and he let out a sigh of relief. Then, came the instruction to turn around and face her. With an exaggerated groan, because lets be honest he couldnt make this easy on her, he shuffled until he was able to turn around and face his cousin while still sitting. He cocked an eyebrow as she was rummaging through her bag and then he squinted as she pulled out a hair tie. "Ok, I have sat in silence long enough. Magpie, I am not letting you put my hair in pony tail or a -" he made a gagging sound "man bun. Id sooner shave my head AND yours"
He locked his steely blue eyes on the lighter blue eyes of his cousin, as if posing a challenge.

Illowy's ghostly blue gaze met his, as he almost seemed to try to challenge what she was trying to do for him. Eye narrowing slightly, a sly smile on her lips, she spoke, "Kyky, firstly, if I was goin' t'put yer hair into a pony tale or a bun, ye wouldn't be facing me." she spoke matter-of-facely, "Secondly, why would I do that? I said I was trying to do something nice for ye, remember?"@Kyle DeRook
It felt strange to hold eye contact with anyone for so long. Though she didn't like to admit it aloud, the black scars that stained her skin had all but shattered any confidence in her appearance. Granted, she was never under any illusion that she wasn't the prettiest girl to ever live, but at least she thought at the time we was at least a little pretty. Now she could barely stand to look at herself longer then it took to get ready in the morning. Much less comfortable was it to have someone else stare at her. Then again, Kyle wasnt just any other student.
All the same, her gaze broke away, letting him win the unspoken staring contest as she looked down at the tiny, thin band in her fingers, letting her own hair fall like a curtain in her face before she scooted closer, "I promise I don't think you'll hate it." she offered a small smile as she ran fingers through his hair, settling on a game plan before taking a tress of his hair and going to work braiding. Tying off the end with the band, she then dipped her hand into the sachet and pulled out a small silver bead, carefully threading it onto the braid until it was secure, "See?" the quickly moved to pull out a little compact mirror from her bag, flipping it open to show him his reflection, wanting his approval before she started working on the other braids for the hair style she had in mind.

Kyle frowned as he saw the look her in eyes as she forfeitted their unspoken staring contest. A challenge denied, or lost? either way it was unlike Illowy. While she was doing her best to be her usual self Kyle could tell something was wrong. It most likely had something to do with the curse that was tainting her blood, and marring her skin. He wanted to say something about, That he understood being repulsed by your own scars. How hard it was to see ones reflection because of the memories it brings up from seeing the marks of your curse. He did not understand the scope of the curse though, and as far as he or anyone knew it had a cure. And the thought that she is letting herself be broken by something with a cure while he was permanently stuck with his left a bad taste in his mouth. He cleared his throat and look out towards the lake in silence. She didn't deserve having her insecurities or fears thrown in her face though. She knew first hand what his curse did to him after all.
Then, she finished some of whatever it was she was doing and she pulled out a mirror to show him and blinked a couple times in disbelief. At first he just looked at the braid which he thought looked kind of silly. At the very least on him. Then his eyes moved to the silver bead at the bottom of it and he tilted his head some. "...is that a Celtic knot?" he asked. Lately due to his study of ancient runes class he had started growing an interest in runes, their meanings and the power behind them. He had always been proud of his irish heritage but has been getting more and more interested in The Ancient Celts and Irish Norsemen. "Hold on...are you trying to give me Viking Braids?"

Truthfully, Illowy was struggling to cope with her curse. She tried her best to keep her outlook optimistic, but it proved harder with each passing day. She knew there was a good chance that there was a cure, the curse just needed to be identified so they could find it... but what if they didn't find it in time? That was what scared the girl the most was the information that was unknowable. How long would the potion they were given last as a bandaid on a bullet wound? For all they knew, at any time the potion could no longer have an effect on keeping the curse in check, and that would be it. The nurse had made it very clear the curse was meant to be fatal, and they were struggling to bide time.@Kyle DeRook
It didn't feel right to talk to Kyle about her curse though. It didn't feel right to voice her fears and insecurities caused by it, when he had his own to deal with. Granted, her curse didn't make her into a monster the way his did, at least not every person who looked at him knew about his affliction. Those who did know about what had happened to Slytherin tended to think one of two ways; that those in Slytherin were horrible and evil and probably deserved it, or looked at them with such pity that she wanted to puke. Either way, it led to an amount of eyes on her she wasn't use to. Between herself and her cousin, Illowy was never the one to put herself under a spotlight. She was perfectly content slipping under the radar until it was appropriate to be seen.
"It's a triquetra, to be exact." she explained, as he analyzed the look in her little mirror, "I thought it would look good on ye t'do somethin with yer hair if yer goin' t'keep it so long." the snake spoke thoughtfully, "An' its just silver colored plastic, so it shouldn't tarnish if ye keep 'em in an' it won't be a big deal if ye lose them. But I thought if ye liked it, then maybe next summer we could go t' one of those heritage festivals and get nice ones." pale eyes lifted to meet his again for a moment, "Do ye like it?"

On the one hand. He was getting his hair braided. On the other hand, it was something the Celtic Vikings did and it was hard to deny that was pretty awesome. Plus, it was making Illowy happy so it wasnt all bad. He offered a shrug "Walkin around with plastic in my hair is kinda weird. But once I get some metal bead things. I could probably make it work." he scoffed slightly " 'sides, anyone who talks shite about it ill just kick their ass. Problem solved"
He was only half joking. While he was always rough and tumble, and he and Duke got into their fair share of fights he had become alot more violent lately. Looking for and starting fights, and even targeting people weaker than him who couldn't properly defend themselves or fight back. Part of him felt bad, but a bigger part didnt care. He feels bad all the time anyway, whats a little more disappointment in himself when its all said and done.
he shifted some to get more comfortable as he was sitting there, then he cleared his throat. "how long is this gonna take anyway? Never had nothing like this done before"
