Date: January 11th, 2020
Location: Oak tree by the great lake
First year

The sun was hidden behind the clouds that day which created a bit of a chilly breeze on the grounds, many students could be seen inside in their common rooms or the great hall or another place hanging out with their friends on the day off. Rarely anyone could be seen outside in the cloudy and chilly day but their were a few, a few students whispered among themselves or laugh like someone just told a joke. However a single boy with dark brown hair and blueish eyes dresses in muggle type clothes; jeans,
a long sleeve grey shirt and light faded but also baggy jacket walked through the grounds and to the great lake, to his perfect and secluded spot from the rest, from reality. As he carried a messager type bag on one shoulder and a violin case on the other side in his hand, he still kept a good pace as he past a few students laughing and chatting among themselves sometimes hearing bits and pieces of their conversation as it flow in the breeze around them.

Henry eyes eventually came upon a large oak tree by the great lake, that was secluded from the rest and where no one student was sitting by for a couple miles. As Henry made his way under the large oak he remembered how he met many of his friends there and thought about hanging out with them instead that day, but something in Henry told him just to stay because while he did enjoy talking and hanging out with his friends. He also enjoyed being alone with his thoughts and also anxiety something that he had no control over well at least at yet, he also felt like he needed to practice his violin since he hardly ever played it since coming to Hogwarts and he needed a secluded place so no one would see or hear hin.

As Henry stood under the large oak, almost on it's base or stump, Henry took off his messager type bag and placed it on the grass besides the large oak stump. As he did crouch down and sat on his knees as he popped opens his old leather bound case and took out his violin which was sort of new, probably because it was the only non handy me down that Henry owned since his family was poor, something that Henry rarely evened mentions and doesn't really care. Since money and materials never appeared to Henry as he stood up and held his violin under his chin just but and begun to play a beautiful classic while pop medley, while he played he was so lost in the music that he didn't even noticed the other figure that approach him.

Some would call the redhead crazy for even considering going outside on a day like January 11. Winters at Hogwarts were known to be cold, with a bit of wind to make things even colder, but that didn't seem to defer the girl. Having grown up in Dublin, she'd had her fair share of chilly winters, maybe even enough to think she was unaffected by the cold. It was highly unlikely, though, that she thought that way, considering the clothing she was wearing. Bundled up in very comfy-looking sweatpants, a hoodie, a Gryffindor scarf, and a beanie, she could be even overdressed for the weather. Who knows? Not her, obviously.

Too focused on getting to her destination, Lizzie very nearly bumped into a couple of kids before she was even out of the castle. One of those incidents nearly ended in her dropping her precious sketchbook. After that, she made a point to keep an eye out for moving obstacles, otherwise known as other students. Merlin help her if her precious fell on the ground and got dirt on it.

She caught a glance of her reflection in a window and grimaced. Her outfit looked like she'd taken a random piece of clothing from random people in her house. It didn't match at all. She'd never been good at picking outfits anyways, but this one was a whole new level of not-matching. Oh well. It was too late for her to go back to her dorm and change. With a sigh, she looked away and forced herself to continue on. The walk from the Gryffindor tower to the grounds always seemed impossibly long, even though it really wasn't, it was just alot of stairs.

Finally, she made it out. It felt like it had been ages since she'd left the common room. That, or she was feeling extra dramatic that day because she had a mismatching outfit and still had homework to do. She just felt off that day. That feeling only worsened when she approached her favorite place to sit, only to find someone already there.

A boy, about her age, wearing muggle clothes with a violin raised to his shoulder, stood under her tree. Although he was sorta facing in her direction, he had not reacted to her presence yet, so Lizzie could only assume he was too lost in his music to notice her. The music he was playing sounded really nice, and she was stuck between interrupting him and letting him finish the piece he was playing.

She stood there, just listening for a few seconds, but in the end, she spoke. "Hi! You're really good at violin." She didn't feel like attacking him for taking her spot just yet. Maybe he would just continue to play and she could just sit on the other side of the tree and draw. Or they would talk and she could make a new friend, that is if she could hold herself back from throwing shade about how he was at her spot.

Henry had his eyes closed slightly as he played, it felt like the world had stopped for a few minutes and everything was peaceful. Like all.his worries and nerves just melted away as he played the violin under the tree, that was until her heard a soft voice speak making Henry opened his eyes. A red haired girl with freckles along her face and pale skin that reminded Henry of Cricket, Henry took his violin off his shoulder and looked at the girl in her grey blueish eyes for a minute or two while he thought silently to himself as his anxiety loomed over his head like a rain cloud ready to burst.

Why is someone else here, usually no one ever comes here besides from maybe Miranda. So then why is she here and how does she know about my spot, maybe this is her spot to but then why have I never seen her before since I always come here maybe we just come at different times. Well what should I do, she complimented my music maybe we can both share this spot and who knows maybe this is my chance to make a new friend just don't mess it up and don't say anything to weird and don't let your anxiety, nerves, worries, panic, or stress get in the way. Just breath and believe, you got this... you got this... you got this..

Henry breath a few times before looking at the red haired girl and said "uh, t..thank you. I'm not in your s..spot, I'm I? Because I can leave if you w..want?" Henry then smiled at her as he placed his violin on the grass for a quick minute so he could move his messager type bag and violin case to the side to give room for the red haired girl. Henry then picked up his violin again as he spoke "I'm Henry, by the way. I feel l..like I h..have seen you before, are you a f..first year to?"

Lizzie watched as the boy's eyes snapped open and he took the violin off of his shoulder. She couldn't help but notice that he had really pretty eyes, both irises a distinct blue-grey. There was no way she wouldn't have noticed eventually, as he suddenly froze, and stared at her, unspeaking. Panicked thoughts took over her mind. Was he upset? Was she the one who killed him in his past life? If reincarnation even existed? Did he recognize her from somewhere? Did she have something on her face? She hoped she hadn't scared him in any way. Back when she went to muggle school, her friends had told her that she'd intimidated them with how much she talked. Hopefully, that wasn't the case with this guy.

She opened her mouth to apologize for interrupting him, but quickly shut it as she noticed him taking a couple of breaths. Was he going to say something?

Yes. Yes, he was, she found out mere seconds later. Taken aback by his words, Lizzie violently shook her head. "No, no, it's fine, you don't need to move, I, uh..." she trailed off, not really wanting to tell him that he was indeed in her spot, after how he'd reacted. She felt even worse about interrupting him now, but he seemed to not mind too much, or at least that's what his second statement told her.

"Nice to meet you Henry," she started with a small smile. "I'm Lizzie, first year Gryffindor. What house are you in?" As she finished talking, she stood there for an awkward second before sitting down next to him, putting her sketchbook gently on the ground beside her. "Sorry for disturbing you, also," she added, feeling like the statement was empty without an excuse, but not having an excuse to give.

your post got my thinking about lizzie's eye color, and then i realized that her fc doesn't actually have blue eyes (which i always describe her as having) and it's a problem now lol

Henry listened to the girl while watching her as she put some the of book on the ground and sitting on the grass also, Henry wonder what type of book that was when he remembered that she ask a question and Henry hesitantly said " it nice t..to meet you, Lizzie. I'm in s..slytherin but I'm not like m..most Slytherin's," Henry paused as he hoped that she wasn't judging him on his house before he spoke again " you aren't or w..weren't disturbing me, Lizzie." Henry looked at the girl and saw that she had blue eyes with red hair, not something that you see everyday but still quite pretty as Henry stood there thinking about what to do next with his anxiety hanging over his head at every word.

Henry finally opened his mouth to speak after a few minutes have past " your book looks interesting. Do you mind if I a..ask what is it c..called?" Henry smiled at the girl after he finished and regretted speaking since he had a habit of strutting, it was much worse when he was younger and gradually improved when he got older but he still had it a bit but not that much unless the first year was truly anxious, panicked, nervous, or worried then that when he truly did it. Henry stood there holding his violin while he awaited her answer, he didn't want to play as he didn't want to seem rude.

@Lizzie Callaghan, that's funny but also good so you saw it. ;)

To be honest, although Lizzie had heard the stereotype that Slytherins were "evil" and "mean", she never really believed it. The thing was, how could she possibly believe a whole house of kids were evil? They're kids, just like her! And if they were mean towards other students, she couldn't really blame them, considering how their house is stereotyped and how they're almost expected to act as their stereotype portrays them to be. She also didn't understand what was "evil" about being ambitious. Her understanding of the word was that it meant they had goals, and they wanted to reach them. It was like Gryffindor's trait of being determined, but more specific. Wow, she'd really turned a simple statement into an entire rant. Who knew she'd have such strong feelings about the Slytherin stereotype.

Since she was having her first conversation with Henry, she didn't want to scare him away with how passionately she could rant about random topics and opted to stay quiet, in hopes he'd change the topic and she wouldn't end up ranting to him about stereotypes. A couple of minutes of silence passed, and Lizzie's self-control was reaching its limits. Then finally, Henry spoke. An audible sigh of relief passed through Lizzie's mouth. Thank Merlin.

"Oh, uh, this is actually my sketchbook. I was gonna see if I could get a decent sketch of the castle," she answered and hesitantly picked the object in question up. She was a little shy about showing others her work, especially since recently she'd been practicing drawing people and discovered she was not good at it. Practice makes perfect, right? Glancing over at Henry, she noticed he was rather awkwardly holding his violin, almost as if he wanted to play, but didn't at the same time. Maybe he could play while she drew, if he was comfortable with that, of course. She always thought it was relaxing to listen to music while she did anything.

As she opened to a blank page in her sketchbook, she said, "I'm gonna start sketching now, I'm not sure how good I am at holding a conversation while I'm working, so if I stop responding to you..." she trailed off with a small laugh and pulled a pencil out of her pocket. If he didn't mind playing while she was there, it would give him the chance to play, and if not, she would figure out if she could talk and work at the same time.

Henry listened to Lizzie and nodded once he saw that she was about it sketch which made him say quickly " that's cool and I'll probably s..start playing again, if you d..don't mind." Henry held his violin just below his left shoulder and in his left hand while holding the stick in his right and was about to play before he spoke again "do you mind if I p..play, because I would hate to bother you." Henry smiled at the girl as he waited for her answer and before she could he decided to speak again quickly " I can leave or stop if it bothers you,
Lizzie? I d..don't mind just let m..me know."

Henry waited for her answer and decided to play in the process of waiting as he starting to move the stick back and forth on the violin, Henry closed his eyes a bit as he became lost in the music and felt like the world has stopped and he was at peace as the music filled his ears and calmed his body. He felt like he had confidence and could do anything as he continued to play and let the music fill his ears which was something that he rarely did in his first year at Hogwarts anymore but he wanted to do it more.

Lizzie absentmindedly nodded as she started to sketch out the basic shapes of the castle. She sorta knew that someone was talking, but she didn't realize they were talking to her. The second time Henry spoke, her brain still didn't quite process what was being said to her and that a response was needed. She figured the Slytherin was either talking to himself or another student. Her brain apparently was still not registering the words.

The third time he spoke, though, she actually comprehended what was being said. Alarmed that he might've been trying to talk to her all those other times he'd spoken, she abruptly looked up from her drawing, and at Henry. "Sorry, apparently I cannot draw and understand what's going on around me," she bashfully apologized. "The music's really relaxing actually, I think it's making me feel more creative than I usually do." she added with a laugh and a smile. To be honest, she had sorta tuned out the music, but it was nice having background noise so it wasn't completely silent.

As the boy brought his violin back up to his shoulder and started playing again, Lizzie actually listened to what he was playing. An unfamiliar but pretty melody reached her ears, and as she went back to her drawing, she made a point to keep listening and not tune it out.

Henry listened to Lizzie speak as he nodded then speaking up himself when she finished " I'm g..glad to hear that. Do you have a..any requests then?" Henry gave the girl a friendly smile as he took his violin off his shoulder and held it in his hand and in the other hand he held the string or stick that he used to play it. Henry didn't want to be rude or intruded on the girls as a million thoughts raced through his mind and his anxiety felt like it was working extra hard as he decided on what to say or on what to not say as he continued to watch the girl under the tree.

After a few minutes however Henry replied " are you a g..good drawer? You s..seem like you're an Artist." Henry gave her a smile before quicky adding and trying not stutter but failing " do you c..come here a lot? Uh is t..this like your spot?" Henry thought his question sounded weird or odd as he let his hair fall over his eyes to cover up where he was looking and the looked of embarrassment that was on the first year's face from speaking just a few minutes ago.
