The day had happened to be particularly warm, to the relief (and chagrin) of Kreszentia. It was perfect for what Krez had planned that afternoon, and she was absolutely going to take advantage of the nice weather to get it done. With some bread in her pocket and hope in her heart, she headed towards the lake again.
Now, what she had planned to do that day was make amends with the squid that inhabited the lake, as the first time they had met she had kind of...acted aggressively. Not saying she was doing it for no reason, as it tried to pull one of her friends under for reasons unknown, but later on, she had heard somewhere that it was a highly intelligent creature. Meaning it probably had feelings. And could possibly hold grudges. She knew she had acted on instinct and self-defense, but she still didn't want the squid to be mad at her. It could make for some trouble later on if she ever decided to learn how to swim.

As she neared the water, she thought for a second about how upset the squid might get if she made another appearance. She didn't know if it would pull her under, or if it would just slap her with a tentacle and leave. She hoped it would do neither of those things, as surely both options would certainly kill her. How could she throw her bread to the monster without being so close to the lake itself? Not an ideal situation for her.
But then, to her luck, she spotted a tree! It was close to the edge of the water, but there was no bank near it. It was just reaching out over a part of the lake that had no shallows. As uncomfortable as it made her, Krez knew it was going to be the ideal place for her to be to feed the squid. It could be right under the tree without beaching itself, and she could be high up and away from the water. A mutual respect for each others space! Perfect.

It took a lot of strength and precision, but she managed to get to a nice height and perched herself atop a sturdy looking branch with very few leaves to impede her vision, tired and a little out of breath. Weird that it didn't have a lot of leaves, but she didn't think much of it and just accepted the view it gave her. Krez scooted out a little bit onto the branch, bringing out the bread she had so she could pull off a piece and toss it into the lake. It made it in, but just floated and stuck to the dirt wall rather than bobbing out further where the squid could find it.
Frustrated, she scooted farther out onto the branch so she could throw a little farther out. The branch creaked beneath her weight and she stopped, afraid it would snap, but it didn't. She didn't move for a little while, waiting for another creak or for the branch to just give entirely, but it stayed solid to her relief. Back to her mission! She scooted more, slow and steady so as not to jolt the branch too suddenly. When she got to a place she thought was far out enough, she mistakenly looked down to see just how far over the water she was. The not-bank was behind her, and all that was below her was the reflection of the tree in the calm dark of the water. Krez shuddered, feeling uneasy just looking into the glassy abyss with horrors unknown to her lurking beneath its depths. She hoped the squid would show itself soon so she could feed it and go back to the school.
She huffed and took the rest of the bread out of her pocket. With one eye closed for aim, Kreszentia reared her arm back as far as it would go, and with as much strength as she could muster she chucked it as far as it would go. It went fairly far out into the water, and she would have been impressed with herself!

Had the branch not broken.

Though she had tried to keep from making any quick movements before, she had lulled herself into a false sense of security when it hadn't made any more noise. But just because it was quiet didn't mean it wasn't old and dead, meaning it was still delicate even if she didn't know it.
The snap was sudden, and she didn't even get a chance to regret choosing a place so high up in the tree. Krez screamed initially but swiftly had the wind knocked out of her after hitting a branch or two on her way down. It felt like an eternity of falling, getting nicked and slapped by leaves and twigs just to add to the problem. Despite the obstacles bruising her up during her descent, nothing was strong enough to catch her, and she inevitably hit the cold water.
Her fear turned to shock as she hadn't expected the lake to be so cold. The warm weather had deceived her, so she spent a few seconds totally still, allowing herself to plunge ever deeper before realizing what was happening.
She was underwater, sinking fast, and she didn't know how to swim.
This conclusion made her start to panic and though she knew better in her logical mind, she felt heavy and the light of the day was already out of her reach. On top of that, she was already tired, and she wasn't sure how well her attempts at swimming was going to go. Determined to resurface or die trying, Krez clawed upwards at the glittering sunlight above her, hoping somehow, someway she could flail her way back up to at least get another breath. But it didn't seem to be working out that way.

Anna finally finished her History homework which she had been forcing herself to do for the past week. Anna stretched and looked out the window of the library and decided it would be nice to take a walk. As Anna walked out the doors onto the grounds the light of the sun beamed onto her, warming her instantly. She was looking for something to do, maybe wonder a little into the forbidden forrest, or dip her toes in the lake or even just take a nap in the grass underneath the shade of a tree. Anna knew the perfect spot for a nap, the tree by the lake. How relaxing it would be to sleep all her worries away.
Anna walked towards the large tree and found that something, rather, someone was perched on a branch stretching out onto the glossy lake.
She shrugged at the strange blonde haired girl and continued to find a comfortable spot under the tree to where she could doze off. She sat down in a soft patch of grass and leaned against the bark. Her eye lids became heavier as the warmth of the sun wrapped her up in a blanket. All was calm.

Snap.

Anna jumped straight up and looked above her to find the girl falling from one branch to another... and another... and another. Until finally, the girl fell into the water of the lake, disturbing the peace in the water and making a big splash.
Anna ran to the edge and looked for the girl who was once perched on a tree. She saw bubbles appear to the surface and soon the started to vanish.
Anna panicked and looked around for anybody to help but, she was alone. The young hufflepuff screamed for help anyways. No one heard, at least that’s what she thought. Anna gathered as much courage as possible and plunged into what seemed to be the coldest water she has ever felt in her life. She swam down, got scared then resurfaced. She swam down again her hands guiding her, hoping to reach the girl’s hand or the girl’s anything. Anna resurfaced once more, then dived back in. She tried to feel around, for the water was too black to see anything and the murky water hurt Anna’s eyes.
Aha! She felt something!
Except, it didn’t feel like a normal girl’s hand. It felt almost tentacle-y.
Anna screamed, sort of forgetting she was underwater and accidentally inhaled some of the nasty lake water. She managed to swim up again and crawl to the bank. She was coughing and choking, soaked to the bone.
What was that? she wondered.

Anna feared the girl would be victim to some horrible squid monster.
Help!” she desperately yelled. “Please, anybody help!”
