Reunion
It was a warm, sunny, clear spring day as Asteria walked down towards the lake to relax. The sun gleamed on the surface of the lake making it glitter like a jewel, which is one of the things Asteria loved about the lake. The glittering sunlight on the lake is one of the reason she sat near the lake during lunch on days like this. It brought happy memories to her mind, like a few years back, when she and her family would go on vacation. If there was a nice lake or even a beach there and the day was nice enough, Asteria and her mum and dad would go there. They would have picnics with just the three of them, or sometimes they'd make it a family gathering.
Asteria remembered about a one year ago, she, her mum and dad, as well as her aunt, uncle and three cousin all went to Kilkee beach in Kilkee, Ireland. It was one of the few times her father got the day off and they decided to spend it having fun in the water and sand. It wasn't everyday they could do this after all, and Asteria was ecstatic to spend time with her father. Once there, they had the time of their life laughing and playing, building sandcastles. Asteria even got to eat one of her favorite muggle foods, a hot dog!
One thing she won't forget is the new friend she made. Her name was Kathleen Taylor, a muggle girl whose family lived in Ireland. She was read a book Asteria had seen before, but had yet to read, being a book lover herself, Asteria was curious. Once Asteria gathered up the courage, they introduced each other, talked about books and some other things, they ended up becoming friends. They had spent Asteria's remaining day their reading and telling funny jokes that they had heard. When it was time to go, the two girls sadly hugged one another, but they also gave each their contact information so they could keep in touch.
They talked on the phone, and sent letters (the muggle way of course), but Asteria couldn't wait until the day they would see each other again. She would often ask her parents when the next time they would visit Ireland would be, much to their amusement.Asteria wondered how Kathleen was doing. She had told Kathleen she was going away to private school, like with the other muggle friends she made. Maybe Asteria would see her over the summer? Who knows.

Reunion
Kathleen sat on the bank of the lake, looking at the clear, slightly rippling water and thinking.
She was Muggle-born, so it had come as a great surprise when a large snowy owl had arrived with a letter in its beak a few months ago. The family had first thought that it had all been a prank, but the young girl did not know anyone who would be able to train owls, let alone make them deliver a letter, and she finally truly believed in the magic school when a kind young man had come, describing the way to a magical shopping street called Diagon Alley.
There was only one thing from the Muggle world she missed - her friend, a girl called Asteria. She had once made a visit to Kilkee, Ireland - Kathleen's hometown - in the holidays, about a year ago. The two girls had made friends almost immediately, sharing their fiery red hair, their love of books and lots of their interests, but they seemingly weren't destined to be pen pals. The connection by phone calls and letters had died out. Slowly, but surely. The gaps between two calls expanding further and further. Kathleen had sometimes caught herself looking at Kilkee Beach, thinking of Asteria and somehow hoping she would come back in another holiday. But the beach had remained full of people she did not know, or only had a short acquaintance with.
How wonderful it would be, thought Kathleen, if she would study at Hogwarts with me! We could help each other with our homework, exchange little notes during classes. And in the late afternoons, in our free time, we could sit here at the lake together! Gabbling and laughing, same as last year.
But she didn't believe in it. What a coincidence that would be! Two girls, best friends, seemingly Muggles - and both turned out to be witches? No way.
Suddenly, Kathleen noticed a girl, apparently a first-year, same as her, in long robes, walking down from the Castle. The student's red hair flew in the soft breeze as the sinking sun lit up both the lake and the beautiful locks like two gems. A sapphire - or maybe a moonstone? - and a ruby. Her whole appearance looked strangely familiar. Kathleen rose up. Her mouth widened. It couldn't be - or could it? She gaped at the figure, and as her lips parted, a whisper came out, softly, hopefully: "Asteria?"

Reunion
Asteria was thinking about what to do while she was enjoying her lunch break. Maybe she should start looking over what dress to choose for the ball, her grandmother had sent her some images to choose form and she'd send the dress soon after. She couldn't believe she'd be attending a ball in her first year, she couldn't believe she'd have to dance with a boy! Or maybe she should just read, she had a new book from the library and she was keen on reading it. There was a lot she could do and not enough time to do it all sadly. She look around to see if any of the friends she had made here so far were around, or if they were still inside. In what seemed like her short time here Asteria had managed to make a few friends, mostly from her house of Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw. She made a few from Hufflepuff thought and none from Slytherin, she rarely talked from anyone from the last two houses after all.
Asteria was about to sit under the tree by the lake when a voice cam to her, "Asteria?" She stopped where she stood and looking for the source. It wasn't long until she found who was calling her however. Over at the Great Lake's bank, Asteria spotted a mass of red hair, looking closely Asteria recognized who the hair belonged to and smiled in shock and excitement. "Blimey...Kathleen, is that really you?!" Asteria asked walking towards the bank where the other girl sat. This can't be real, it had to be someone who looked like her. Kathleen was a muggle, she was sure of it,at least she thought she was, right? It was too good to be true in Asteria's mind but it wasn't impossible she guessed, muggle-born's do exist after all. "How?..."
Asteria began. "I thought I'd never see you again!" She said very happy to be wrong, in fact she was happy enough to give Kathleen a hug. "Did you get my letters? Mum said sending mail the muggle way can be a bit tricky sometimes and it can get lost!" Still in a slight state of shock Asteria didn't know what to say, so she said the first thing that came to her. Slowly she separated herself from the hug, today was going to an interesting one for sure. "I can't believe it! You're a witch?!"

Kathleen grinned. It was really Asteria! She had no idea how this could be, but it was fantastic. "Yeah... I'm Muggle-born, got my letter a few weeks ago. But I can't believe it! How come you've never told me that you're a witch?" She laughed, it was amazing to say this. Asteria was a witch! "And of course I got your letters, you silly thing. Even though it would have been much easier if you had sent them by owl!" She quickly pondered if she should be mad at her friend because she had never even dropped a single word about her being a witch, but after all, Kathleen could understand. She would have probably thought Asteria mad, there were not many Muggles who truly believed in Magic and until the girl had gotten her letter from Hogwarts, she hadn't been one of them. "It's wonderful to see you here, Asteria! I thought we'd never even meet again... We have so much to tell each other about! How do you like Hogwarts? What house are you in?" She broke off, looking at the crest sewn onto Asteria's robes. "Gryffindor! That's cool, I'm in Ravenclaw, but after that, Gryffindor is my second favourite house..." The young girl blushed and laughed heartily. "I'm too talkative again, right? Your turn to talk."

Even though it would have been much easier if you had sent them by owl!" Asteria beamed at Kathleen and said, "Well, we're not suppose to tell people who we think or know are muggles that we're witches or wizards. It's against the law, even if they didn't believe us." It's not like Asteria wasn't tempted too though to be honest. Before coming to Hogwarts, Asteria had friends from both worlds, unfortunately though her muggle friends were not aloud to know the truth. Maybe one day there will come a time where both worlds can know of each other, but that day was not now.It was the greatest relief for Asteria that she now has a friend from the muggle world that not only knew what she was, but was one herself. Sure Kathleen wasn't her only muggle-born friend now, but she was her first one! "Yeah it would have been much easier," Asteria agreed. "but I though you were a muggle, so to me you probably would have thought it was insane to get a letter by a random, flying owl,not to mention that I didn't want to get in any trouble."
"It's wonderful to see you here, Asteria! I thought we'd never even meet again..." Kathleen said."We have so much to tell each other about! How do you like Hogwarts? What house are you in? Asteria giggled, "Yup, the sorting hat was unsure though, it was between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw at first. But in the end, Gryffindor won out." she explained. "So far Hogwarts has been interesting to say the least, classwork has been too easy. I haven't been too active in the dancing lessons though, I've had enough of those even before Hogwarts." Asteria continued. "But what about you?! How are things going here for you so far? How shocked were you to find out you were a witch?!" Curious was the best way to describe how Asteria was feeling right now aside form surprised. Never in a million years did Asteria think she'd end up having this conversation with anyone from the muggle world.
