Sept 6th Afternoon

Skipping her way down the stairs of the castle, Lark hurried through the courtyard heading towards the Great Lake. She had managed to squeeze in some time to go sketch for the day in-between classes. Although passing on lunch had helped give her some more time. Going to the Great Hall she had only snagged two sandwiches and wrapped them carefully in napkins before tucking them away into her bag among the numerous pencils, erasers, and other sketching tools.

Lark smiled to herself as she hummed under her breath a small tune her father used to sing to her every night. The day had been going rather well and she had even gotten a couple grades back already, pleased with how well she had managed to do so far. She would have classes with her friends later and get to enjoy dinner with them. Today certainly was looking up compared to the others. Walking closer and closer to the Lake, the silver haired girl strode towards a group of trees, a large bolder resting in the water. Lark had scoped out a couple places yesterday trying to find new spots to sketch and figured the lighting would be good, plus the weather hadn't seemed iffy compared to the last couple rainy days. Her golden eyes rose to the sun and blinked as the welcomed warmth radiated against her pale freckled skin. It would be winter before they knew it and she would miss the sunshine. The cooler weather brought a welcomed cozy option for clothing and lots of blankets, toasty fires... but Lark still was fond of being able to lay out in the grass with the sun beating down on her. There was already a chill in the air. But today.. no today would be perfect!

As she came closer to her destination a small figure came into view. Determined not to let it make her shy away from her plans, Lark squinted trying to make out who it could be. A small boy was sitting not far off with something in his lap. She was going to wave a greeting to him but he appeared to be completely enthralled with whatever he was doing. Coming closer she slowed her pace and realized he must be here for the same reason she was.

Lark hadn't come across anyone else yet who was interested in drawing. She felt a flutter of anxiety in her stomach. Her drawings were pretty personal and she was not all that confident in her skills. Often she didn't share her drawings unless she truly trusted the other person, let alone show it to another artist for fear of being harshly judged or compared to. Swallowing her fears she got up the nerve to walk closer to the boy, making note of his yellow tie. A Hufflepuff! She hadn't had the opportunity to really meet anyone outside of Ravenclaw. Not outside of class that is.

"H..Hey there!" Lark steadied her voice and smiled down at the blonde haired Hufflepuff. From the looks of it he must be a first year like she was. He looked so very young though. She stood a few steps away from him not wanting to invade his personal space. Although she noticed he certainly was drawing, what she could not tell from here but it made her smile even brighter.

Maggie wasn’t really the biggest fan of fall. Sure, she liked carving pumpkins and the excuse to throw more parties when Halloween came around, but other than that, it really wasn’t anything special to her. Her favorite season, by far, was summer, hence the wandering about the grounds, soaking up the last rays of sun before the once-pleasant weather morphed into a nipping cold that never failed to make her sick.

Hands pushing against the pockets of her robes, she kicked the dirt below her, her converse scraping against the surface and making small clouds of dust. Lifting her gaze, she noticed two unfamiliar students by the same tree she’d spent oh-so-much time in during her first year. Huh.

The feeling was similar to the one Maggie would get when she came back from another year at school, Muggle school, that is, and a fourth-grader would be sitting in her seat, blissfully unaware of the havoc they were wreaking in Maggie’s mind.

She couldn’t get mad, though, it wasn’t fair. So, she sucked it up and walked towards the tree, the images of the two kids sitting there becoming clearer and clearer.

One was a girl, with Ravenclaw robes and strange silver hair. She stood, somewhat awkwardly, as she greeted the boy leaning against the trunk of the tree. The boy was a Hufflepuff, and he had a noticeably small frame. Maggie wondered if Carson or Charlotte had ever seen him around the common room, or if Tatiana had seen the girl, too.

“Hey,” she called, her voice lowering in volume as she neared the pair. “I see you’ve found the best tree at Hogwarts. You guys are first years, right?”

Jake leaned down over his paper, hard at work, but he was finding it more difficult today than usual. It was sort of a struggle to keep his eyes open. Jake hadn't been sleeping very well since arriving at Hogwarts. It was dark at school, and the castle made weird noises, and he missed his bed and his parents. On top of all of it, they had begun astronomy classes, at a time that was far later than Jake had ever stayed up out of bed before when it wasn't New Year's Eve (a holiday in which Jake often didn't make it to midnight anyway). Still, sometimes even when he was in bed, he couldn't sleep...lying awake for hours. Even though the nights were very tough, it was easier to forget that when you stayed outside during the day, and so Jake sat under his new favorite spot - a large tree that was perfect for resting against, and protecting you against the sun while you drew - and tried to keep himself awake long enough to finish his drawing of a majestic horse.

Just then Jake heard a voice, and looked up in surprise. The awkward greeting came from a Ravenclaw girl. Compared to a lot of the kids at Hogwarts, she was small, and Jake thought that maybe she was a first year like he was. He looked at her...wondering what she wanted. Why was she talking to him? She smiled nicely, and gave Jake space...and he sensed something weird in her voice. She almost sounded nervous...but why would anybody ever be nervous of him? "Um, h-hi..." Jake replied, sounding nervous himself. Jake couldn't help but be shy when other children were around.

Soon though, there was not one but two. Jake looked up at them. Something inside him told him that they probably weren't mean...though he didn't know why or how he knew. Still he couldn't be sure...what if they were just pretending? Sometimes people did that...and you could never tell who was pretending and who wasn't. But while Jake's time at camp had helped him in getting a little more used to talking to ONE other child, talking to TWO was a whole new confusing experience.

"Um...I am...." Jake answered the girl in Gryffindor robes, looking up at both girls. "Is...um...is it really the best tree?" he dared to ask.

Interacting with @Jake Morris - - - @Maggie Parker
Lark stood feeling uneasy as the boy had looked up to her. Had she been bothering him? Immediately she felt a flush on her cheeks but couldn't take her gaze away from him. She felt frozen in time. Maybe she should have left him alone, a part of her felt awful for having interrupted.

As the boy spoke to her after some time, Lark couldn't leapt from her skin as someone came up behind her calling to them.

“I see you’ve found the best tree at Hogwarts. You guys are first years, right?”

Lark turned trying to quell the jolt to her nerves. The girl hadn't meant anything by it of course, but she had been so caught up in worrying about her interrupting the small Hufflepuff boy that she hadn't been paying attention to anything around her. As the boy spoke to the girl that made her way over to the two of them, Lark gave the newcomer a smile.

"It really is a pretty good spot!" Lark gave a nervous laugh. She had never seen the girl before around the castle but didn't think she could be all that threatening. The look on her face seemed warm and friendly. Lark nodded at the girl's remark on being a first year. "Aye, I am. I uh.. I'm Lark Flaer." She looked at each one separately and gave a bit of a nod as she introduced herself. Smiling at the girl she couldn't help but admire how outgoing she had been. Perhaps Hogwarts just did that to you? So far Lark had felt a lot more sociable once classes started. Summer had admittedly been rough, but now she found herself walking up to complete strangers and striking up conversations. Something she had never imagined herself doing. It was an odd sensation and as much as it made her nervous it gave her a sort of adrenaline rush.

Lark held up her bag and spoke, "Seems ta be a popular spot. I came for the view in all honesty." Pulling out her journal she shook it in the air slightly. "I've been craving some sketching time."

ooc: Totally okay!! I'm glad you hopped in, been wanting to officially meet Maggie!
