Fall Games
Gryffindor v Slytherin
Moderator: @River Jemari
Date: October 23, 2020
It was pouring rain on a brisk Friday afternoon. There was an eastern wind that was blowing hard. It was as if the sky itself was telling the wizards that today was a bad day for a match. However, this was one of those rare moments were the stadium could be packed. Not just with fellow students and professors but also the eager and interested faces of their most welcomed guests: students and staff from Ilvermorny, Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. After Hufflepuff's flawless victory last year, the other houses will have to try even harder to break that winning streak.
The announcer (an NPC run by the moderator of the thread, potentially River himself) would step into the middle of the pitch and greet the roaring crowd. This was going to be an amazing competition of both brain and brawn. The Captains of both teams were eager and not the sort to back down from a challenge: @Dan Palmer and @Rafael D'Spacito. each likely hoping for a swift and easy victory, both teams would enter the pitch and perform their customary flight around the perimeter of the ring. The crowd would cheer, perhaps a few would heckle. This was going to be quite the match.
There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

Alan had known about the game but it wasn't until very recently that Rafael had let him know that it was actually going to be his first game today. That Alan was no longer a benched player but actually had to participate in the game and it truly managed to freak the fourth year out. He had been there for every practice but an actual game was something entirely different and more dangerous. Rafael had gotten him onto the team with the promise that he would have enough time to adjust; that he could even start by watching at first during the games and that was what ultimately had made Alan give in to the captain of the team and agree to become a part of it.
As the Gryffindor was stalking through the rain, his quidditch wear already soaked by the heavy downfall that poured from the clouds, he could make out a familiar form ahead of himself, @Evelynn Decipio. With a pitter-patter of splashing mud and water, he ran forward, in one hand holding his broom as the other one shielded his eyes from the rain. That seriously was not a nice weather for a first game and Alan hoped that it would not make the brooms too slippery. He truly did not want to fall down 50 feet and break his spine, or worse, die. He shook, his head as he should not think stuff like that right before he would actually start a game that would prove quite important for his house. This was going to be the first game of the year, so it would leave an impression and he wanted to upkeep his house's reputation.
Finally reaching Evelynn, he would gasp out a breath and slow his steps again as he tried to match hers. So far he had yet to realize the mood the co-captain was in. "Evelynn? Hi Eve!", he greeted now that he had finally caught up to her, the nervousness was showing on his face. "So I was told I have to play this game, I didn't expect that... R-Rafael said I was only a benched player, d-did that change or something?" His stutter slipped past even though he had done all he could to practice his speech but the panic must have made it do a reappearance. But that was not as important as his current issue, was he no longer a second string player? Where was Rafael? He had to bring some clarity into this! "I don't think I am ready for th-this yet, I barely had any training," he rasped out. This was going so fast, what if he messed up and held the team back with his lack of experience? The emotional cocktail had his mind do overtime with all of the thoughts rushing through his head and mind and he just wanted to sit down and take a couple of deep breaths.

The first game of the year will be starting soon. As the green eyes approached the Quidditch Pitch, it is pouring rain. Usually, Cash avoided anything that will make their purple hair wet but the excitement that running on their vein beat that. Cash had just move from waited list beater to first string in just several months.
Since they did not have their own personal broom for this occasion, the school broom will do the justice and the purple hair hoping it is enough. They could easily asked their mother to buy it for them but Cash want to buy it on their own and not rely on their parents. Cash then looked around and it seems that Alan was the first one that arrived.
With everything happened in their life whether it is life or school related, Cash did not have the time to practice on their own. Again the second year hoping their strength alone can bring their team into victory for the first match of the year. They looked down on their hands. On their right, they hold the school broom.
And on their left hand is it the beater bat that their father gave to them. The same bat their father used when he was a beater back when he was attended the school. Cash smiled at the memories. Father will be so proud of me, Cash thought internally. The spectator stands starting to filled up with both student houses that belong to the one that will play today match.
Once awhile the green eyes swiped their wet face from the rain that fall on them and Cash definitely can not wait for the match to begin.

Erin was ready. Last year she was one of the first to be targeted. One of the first to feel the crack of the bludger and feel the brunt of the force of that metal ball. The pain was exquisite, it reminded her that she was alive. The fall, that cold plummet towards an unforgiving earth, the promise of a temporary respite from her perennial dread. Them, the kind providence of being 'saved' from what they saw as a terrible end and she, solace from this dire monotony. There were death witches and midget giants in unknown numbers, but their reach was great and their audacious bid for power, soaked in the wizard blood of their last meal. Upperclassmen were a dying breed in the most literal sense.
No matter. She will get stronger again today. Get stronger or fall. Neither were bad, not really.
This match was different. Not just the pouring rain but the stands. They were full of faces she did not know. Three schools filled the stands. She wondered if she could trust them? Doubtful.
"Who first captain?" She spun the bat in her hand. "I never last long, but hoping to last longer this match," she announced with an aura of grim determination. She was riding a better broom this year, a silver arrow, a gift from her mother. She was wearing better gear. She was stronger, she had trained all summer for this eventuality. No, not this... for another victory, but this was a stepping stone. A means to mend more than a bruised ego or a broken heart, but to save everyone from the disaster they so willfully ignore.

Kyle Sat in the locker room for awhile in his crimson and cold game robes, beater armor securely strapped on, and helmet firmly in place. This was his first game since losing his position as captain, and while he was second string he would be lying if he said he wasn't equal parts nervous and excited. Sure he was going to be warming the bench but that didn't mean he wasn't going to be taking to the skies at all, what if one of his fellow beaters took a serious hit? He let out a deep breath as he rose to his feet, and grabbed both his broom and his bat. He hoped he wasn't rusty.
He strode out into the field and looked around at the gathered student's and he felt his chest tighten up and nervous energy course through him. It was so good to be back on the pitch...but did he really deserve it? He would do his best to prove he did.
He made his way over to the bench and he sat down, placing his broom and bat on the grass under the bench between his feet. he then cleared his throat and "Give 'em Hell Lions!" he called out to encourage the first string.

Percival's brain still felt muddy and slow like he was trudging up a steep hill. Despite the copious amounts of coffee he had consumed at breakfast. The rain soaked into his gear only adding to his bad mood. Underlying anger and rejection swirled in his gut. His mind was completely focused on the events of last week. It had come as a surprise when Opeila had broken up with him.
He had thought everything was going great, but after the ball it seemed like there had been a flip in her feelings. He didn't know when she had started to feel the way she did. To him it came out of nowhere, but it was possible he had just missed it. Maybe if he had paid more attention things would have turned out differently. Maybe if he had just consoled the two to figure out their problem. Instead of just trusting what Hanako had to say, but there was little point in wishing he had done things differently now.
The boy still had trouble believing what she had said to him. He still wondered what she meant by the problem being Hanako. Percival knew from experience Hanako could be a little rough around the edges, but the other didn't go around antagonizing those he was personally close with. The same couldn't be said for a stray first year, but that was beside the point. From his stand point it had looked like the two had gotten along. He still remembered the two's nice chat while he went to grab hot chocolate at that party Opeila hosted. Now that he thought about it, she had left fairly early, but hadn't Hanako said she was tired? Was Hanako really the problem or was it Opeila just using an excuse to break things off?
Percival shook his head deciding he'd talk to Hanako later. Possibly while they were at dinner or before going to sleep. He and Hanako had been friends since the start of first-year. Things could be rocky at times, but he didn't doubt the other would clue him in on the truth. For now Percival decided to push away his problems and focus on the game. Sitting down on the bench he clapped his hands together and let out a cheer.

@Rafael D'Spacito, @Evelynn Decipio, & @Alan VanesPeople often sang 'Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day...', but Piérre loved rain. What could be so bad about rain that people had to come up with a song explaining just how much they didn't like it? What would the world be without rain? Without water? Lifeless, bleak. Water was what made the world special, what made Earth as lively as it was. The #13 player on the Gryffindor Quidditch team was laughing like a child, jumping and splashing through every mud puddle he could find, tilting his chin towards the sky so that he could catch raindrops on the tip of his tongue. There was something refreshing in the coolness of the air, despite the knifing cold of impending winter. Piérre had watched his brother partake in racing earlier in the month, at a time in which the weather had been more forgiving. Now, Piérre was cupping his hands to his mouth, breathing on his thin, pale fingers in order to warm them up. Not that he minded... he had grown perhaps a bit more accustomed to English winters. Rain and gloom like this was common, but hey, it's making the best of it that mattered, right?
This was his first game, his first chance to prove that he was a valuable asset to his team and somebody worth paying attention to. yes, he was known about as the kid with a clownish attitude and an infallible penchant for mischief and chaos, but he had, up to this point, never been directly in the limelight. Truth be told, the very idea of it kind of caused Piérre to shiver with a mixture of anticipation and dread. His brother was going to be watching, just as he had watched him during the big game in the London Stadium. God, Piérre wanted to prove that he was worth watching. He wanted to be seen as a successful player, a good sport, and a determined associate. God, again with the ambition! And they were playing Slytherin too, no less!
"C'mon Luciana! We're gonna be late!" Piérre whispered to his broom, mounting and then taking off. He had been slip and sliding down the muddy, wet hill leading to the pitch, his robes now saturated with muddy mess, but now that muddy mess was flying through the air, the scarlet drenched and the armor Piérre wore now slippery and soaked. He probably weighed something like 103 pounds instead of 97 now... With a whoop, Piérre threw a hand behind him, as if he were taming a bucking bronco, and then soared over the stadium: unprofessional at least, and outright flamboyant at the most. Spiraling to the ground, Piérre jumped a yard before Luciana reached the ground, miscalculated his momentum and the fact that the ground was a literal sponge, and then faceplanted in front of his team, sliding about seven feet to meet them.
Was this what having a mudmask was like? Lifting his head, now covered with grass and mud, Piérre grinned, baring pearly whites. "Hi!" He chirped, wiping his face with an equally dirty hand. "Just practicing falling! I'm ready to get some gold! How 'bout you, Eevee?" Dragging himself to his feet, Piérre threw his arms around the co-captain and first-string Seeker. "I'm so hyped! I even got nine hours of sleep last night!"
Alan mentioned something about not being ready for the game, being worried that he wasn't going to do good enough... Piérre picked a clump of grass and mud out of his bangs, shaking his head like a dog. After Evelynn responded to the initial worry, for Alan's words had been pointed towards her originally, Piérre would chime in with his own assurance. "Yeah, everything'll be fine. Al! I mean, I'm completely new to this position too... and this is my first first-string game! I'm just happy to be here with such an awesome team! You'll do fine! I believe in you, right Rafa?!" Piérre bounced as he grinned at his captain.
Good self control_
Piérre bulrushed his captain, catching him in a bear hug as well. Well, so much for staying clean... Rafa was like a brother from another mother in Piérre's mind. Almost like a more cocky and daring Romeo.
Well, team couldn't stay together the whole time. There was a game to win, and Piérre was sure going to be a part of that team win! With a final team shout, Piérre summoned Luciana and then took for the skies, circling the hoops and still trying to get a bit more of that mud and grass off of this uniform... It would need a desperate 'Scourgify' after this game was over.

Cold rain. Warm and dry clothing. Nico loved the way she could wear some extra fluffy sweaters underneath her battle-ready attire. This was the perfect weather for her kind. Yet, she couldn't help but miss the cold rays of sunlight. The drops of rain would have to do.
Standing by the entrance of the pitch, the dhampir did some final touches with her hair, tightly binding it together in a small hairbun. Making her hair shorter made her neck feel cold. Which meant, more sweaters.
Some warmth holding black pants, kneehigh black socks, a black turtleneck woolen sweater. The fabric would gently yet tightly wrap around her neck. The inside had a soft furr like texture, lightly tickling her throat. Ready.
Having thrown on the usual Quidditch uniform, Nico finally walked onto the field. A hood hanging way over her head, making sure that the rain wouldn't immediatly fall onto her face. It gave her a mysterious look but she really just hoped it would keep her dry for most of the game.
As usual, Nico wasn't entirely used to her fellow teammates. Of course, they had trained together multiple times but she still felt like an outsider. Not much that could be done. With a deep inhale, she sighed, curling her fingers around the wooden shaft of her Tinderblast.
A certain aura surrounded her that she wasn't much aware of. It would sent chills down peoples spines and usually chase them away. However, the young Slytherin was hoping to keep it in check.
'Keep your head in the game, Nico...' Her iceblue eyes glanced over at the Gryffindor team. She couldn't help but notice that her old time friend wasn't there. Almost forgotten. She shook her head and slid onto her broom. 'Stop being stupid and get up there.' She muttered and flew up to take in her position.

Lovely Creature
Effect: You are very distracting to look at. This increases the Control DC of spells in duels and adventures by +2 as well as the DC for finding things in adventures or the DC for finding the snitch in a game of Quidditch. This ability does not stack.
Unsetteling Aura
A Dhampir's Unsettling Aura becomes noticeable. This is created by their presence. It is that uncanny feeling one gets where the small hairs on the back of their neck stand on end and the flesh on their arms turn to gooseflesh. It is as if the room itself was turned down by several degrees and one's heart was filled with a foreboding sense.
Effect: This represented as a 10% auto-fail rate for anyone besides the Dhampir (or other Dhampirs) to perform an action or cast a spell. Unfortunately, this prevents a dhampir from being hidden (entering stealth) when in use. As such any attempts to be hidden in a topic while this is on would automatically fail. However, a dhampir can turn off their aura at the cost of an action (unlike those that have the ability terrible presence) and as an action turn back on their aura. This ability does not stack in intensity when multiple Dhampirs have it activated.
Broom : Tinderblast
In the role of Chaser, as a free action if the user of this broom is successful in the quafflegrab they can as a free action pass the Quaffle to another user in an attempt to score. There is a chance of the quaffle being intercepted, however due to the fact that the user is "so fast" with the quaffle this would be considered "surprising" and the attempt to score would be done at +3 accuracy by the player it was passed to in an attempt to score.
Note: The attempt to score would be an automatic attempt by the user that catches the passed quaffle.
You're gonna need a bigger boat

Finally. It was Quidditch Season again. He was dressed the way he always was in Quidditch. The appropriate guards, his emerald green Quidditch robes, and barefooted. Dan was nervous as he always was right at the start. But, when it was time to head out, he headed out with his team.
Right into the pouring rain.
This wasn't a surprise, Dan knew it would be raining. Still, the thought that everyone had come out like this to see the match in this kind of weather was inspiring.
What irked him ever so slightly, was that instead of the team that deserved a loss the most, of course he meant Hufflepuff, they were facing off against Gryffindor, who'd come dead last last year.
But, it didn't bother him that badly. Gryffindor needed a proper thrashing too.
Dan took a moment to observe the other team. There were several old faces. but some new ones. Dan had expected as much; Dueling and Broom Races were on the horizon. He'd lost a few members to it himself. And while he understood, it still pained him immensely. It was like watching a beloved member of your pirate crew walk away for the last time. And then, he saw that Rafael Despacito was still captain.
Excellent.
Dan couldn't help but cast a knowing, somewhat smug smirk at Rafael. Afterwards, he did a lap with his team, waving to the crowd, looking to impress not only his own house, and not even the other houses. He wanted to impress the Americans. Hufflepuff took the cup from Durmstrang already, and while he was proud of them, he still thought it should have been them to crush Durmstrang instead. Now, it was time to show the other schools just what they were dealing with.
Erin then flew up to him, sporting a Silver Arrow, just like he was. He had gotten this as a gift from his parents, after they learned that he had been made Captain so quickly. Dan didn't know if it was because they were proud of him being made captain, or to make him feel better after losing two matches, despite his strategic prowess.
When Erin asked who was first, Dan smirked.
"Same as we discussed. Blast 'em outta the air."
Then, Upon hearing Kyle cheer for his team, Dan decided to get a bit of flair himself. Though, this was a far cry from what Kyle USED to do...
Alright Snakes! Play yer best, let's give those watchin' a show! And strike the fear'a God in our opposition while we're at it!"

Koko had never considered herself much of a fighter, yet here she was, decked out in what she thought of as armour. Her Quidditch gear protected her from the harsh Scottish winds, but it also softened the blows of incoming bludgers, providing they didn't hit her where she wasn't covered in leather.
She pulled on her Keeper's gloves, mounting her Silver Arrow - she took note that she'd need to properly polish it later, but she'd be fine for now - and kicking off from the ground. The Slytherin smiled softly, her legs dangling as she came to a stop in front of the golden hoops she was meant to guard. Adrenaline was already beginning to pump through her veins, and Koko giggled a giddy laugh, grinning.
No matter how awfully Slytherin had done last season, things had changed. Koko was certain they would be able to do anything this year. The spark of hope warmed her, and she was no longer shivering when the wind blew past her ears. No, Koko was warm with a blazing fire of hope, and she intended to keep that fire burning.
After all, they could do this. What could possibly go wrong?
