Whirling around at the sound of a familiar voice, Lark noticed Gris behind her. A sigh of relief parted her lips as the older girl’s hand made contact with Lark’s shoulder giving her another small form of comfort. ’Not a crazy half-giant…’ Or worse… a shiver ran up the young Ravenclaw’s spine.

"T-Thanks. I’m glad you two are ahl’right." Lark offered the pair a small smile. Surely now in a larger group the four of them would be better off. Especially with the sudden darkness that had overtaken the pitch. People were still yelling back and forth to one another, nothing Lark could make out let alone see any faces to pinpoint if she knew them or not. This only served to stir even more anxiety bubbling in the pit of her stomach. Thankfully a number of her peers had also begun to utilize the lighting charm, little bubbles of light breaking up the dark void.

A handful of screams and shouts echoed through Lark’s thoughts as she peered around the pitch. The buzzing was even louder now...whatever it was had to be just about on top of the unsuspecting students. Not too far off it sounded like more spells being yelled out and scuffling of some kind further on the dance floor. ”We have ta do something…” Turning to glance at each of her friends, Lark looked past them at various lights bobbing their way towards the exit. She didn’t want this to be like the ball… people trapped and nothing she could do to help. There had to be something they all could do… escort people out...something. With Gris and Alan using Lumos she wanted to make sure to keep her wand handy, just in case. ”The exit! Maybe we can get others out… pass them off in that direction so they have a better chance of escaping?” She wasn’t sure if she was yelling or not. The buzzing in her ears was so loud. ”Or.. the candles. Maybe-“ There was no time for her to finish her sentence as he source of the noise revealed itself, whizzing past the group. Mosps?? How… Lark had only seen images of them from her Father’s studies with creatures. Following the direction of the mosp (12-one after Ana), she heard a girl’s voice yelling out towards it. Were they really trying to taunt it? Lark wasn’t sure on what sort of aggressive nature these had but that seemed like a bad idea. ”Mosps… they’re mosps.” Lark murmured to her friends, unsure if they had noticed it or known what they were. Her golden eyes seemed to darken as she glanced at AJ. Reaching for his hand she gave a small squeeze. ”Some date hu-“ A blood curdling scream pierced the air. Snapping her head around in the direction of the commotion behind them on the other side of the tables, it looked like someone Ana.B was on fire… no. Lark’s fingers slid from her friend’s as she stared in disbelief. She had to be seeing things. This was not happening. Not again.

Without a second thought, Lark broke away from the group at a run. One hand held out to push away at a chair in her way as she squeezed between a pair of tables, the other firmly grasping her wand. Another girl was behind the one set ablaze, Astrea coming from the other direction as Lark stood a foot from the burning girl. Never had she thought she would be using this spell in this way… with the proper wave of her wand thrust at the girl and whatever burning object was with her a sobering realization of what it could mean if she did not properly cast this in time washed over be. Lark precisely called out the incantation Professor MacTavish had taught them in class for the Extinguishing spell at Ana, putting everything she had swelling inside of her behind the spell. ”Extinguo!”

Interacting with @Lydia Cooper
Thank goodness Lydia was good with spells. The light from her wand was extremely helpful in Aaron's investigation of the bubble with the candle, but it was his own eyes that were playing tricks on him. Nothing about the candle seemed off or indicative of the problem. "I just don't understand why they went out like that," he said, turning his eyes back on his friend. He had really been hoping to find the problem and be able to fix it so everyone could go back to enjoying the ball! It had been going so well - aside from Lydia's distress regarding Rafael, and the fight the Gryffindor Captain had started.

As Aaron straightened back up to his full five-foot height, he glanced around the rest of the pitch and saw several other sources of light. It seemed people all around them had been resourceful and were lighting their wands. Wait - had the buzzing gotten louder? This time he was able to deduce the source and he looked up above in time to see two massive sparks light up the sky, showing off a mass of flying things. It seemed that people had been spooked by the lights going out, but their preemptive launch of flares had allowed light to illuminate an incoming threat. Aaron felt his heart pounding as the shapes descended. What the heck was happening?

"Lyd, should we alert the professors?" Aaron asked, his voice hinting at panic as he took in the scene around them. At this point, getting into trouble didn't matter. There was no way a bunch of first years could handle whatever the heck these things were. They were descending on his classmates quickly, and he wasn't sure how well they would react. Before he had a chance to move, his blue-haired friend touched his shoulder and directed his attention upward again. One of those things was headed straight for them.

As it approached, Aaron was able to get a good look at it. It was ugly. An enormous insectoid of some kind, with two HUGE stingers. The sight of its natural weapons made the black-haired wizard cringe slightly.

Lydia's scream launched him into action, though, and he jumped in front of her to (hopefully) get the first hit in. The light of Lydia's wand went out as she moved to attack as well, and he was left in mostly darkness. Nevertheless, his instincts kicked in as he calculated where the bulbous insect was. His instincts were physical, not magical, because he had more strength than spell casting ability (he honestly sucked at spells). Aaron launched into the air with a twist when he saw its shadow grow near, his foot going higher than the rest of his body.

Successful or not in his hook kick, the twelve-year-old would direct his next words at his blue-haired friend, "Lydia, the flares! We have to light them!" Their contingency plan behind the stage - clearly it was needed now. He felt like the two students' flares from moments ago might not have been enough, so he would distract the beast long enough for Lydia to go light the flares they had set up for emergency. In the meantime, hopefully the other attendees would launch into the air and escape back to the castle with the brooms. It was the best scenario at this point.

Ruka would have cheered had there not been this many people panicking all around him.

Just like he was hopeful it would, his make shift torch caught on fire the second he had cast his Incendio on it - He'd practiced it a million times, and yet a grin split his face at the sight of the powerful spell, casting a good radius of light all around him.

Standing up from where he'd been kneeling on the ground to cast his spell, he lifted his torch up to twirl it once around above his head like he was preparing for a performance. Out of everything that had been happening at this ball so far, he had to admit that this was the moment that made him feel the most alive. The expression on his face said that he really couldn't have hoped for a better outcome than this; The thrill of the moment made the adrenaline pump through him wildly, keeping him wide eyed and alert.

For a moment he just stayed there, with his torch lifted up in the air, three more unlit make shift torches by his feet, and his gaze drifting across the crowd as far as he could see. People were casting Lumos all around him, which seemed like a dumb idea, considering they were rendering their wands practically useless in case there was something approaching that would require them to cast a spell. Ruka's own wand, however, still rested snuggly in his hand, ready to be used at a moment's notice should he have to.

With that knowledge in mind, Ruka bent down to tuck the rest of his sticks safely under his arm, just as he heard a foreign voice call out to him.

Was it calling out to him?

Fireboy, that had to be him, right? As far as he could tell, for the moment, he was the only one who had had the mind to make his source of light out of fire, so who else would the stranger's voice be talking to?

Narrowing his eyes in the direction the voice came from, Ruka safely made his way past tables and further towards the entrance of the stadium. Once he had managed what he assumed to be about half the way to his goal, the voice called out again, asking for more of where that came from, and Ruka found himself momentarily excited about the fact that at least someone seemed to have the brains to be asking for more fire rather than casting Lumos like everyone else was doing.

Skipping towards the source of the voice like he was having the time of his life, Ruka was about to tuck his wand back into his pocket for a moment to light up a second torch when he came close enough to the group of people he assumed contained the person who had called out to him. His eyes latched onto familiar faces first; Selim, right there by the boy he had stuck around all night, but only for a moment before he seemed to be taking off in a different direction, a goal in mind that would remain a mystery to Ruka as the Fire Dancer's gaze caught onto another familiar face.

Feeling like any remaining weight on his shoulders had dropped at the sight of the person he'd been wondering about for a while now, Ruka's face lit up with a smile, but only for a moment as he watched Jack getting himself between Funeral Boy and a girl with purple hair he thought to have recognised from briefly seeing her at the Valentine's Party, but he couldn't have been too sure about that considering he had been quite close to passing out back then.

Terror crossed Ruka's face as he watched things happening in slow motion; The two people on either side of Jack were clearly gearing up for a physical fight, both of their stances betraying an attack, and right there, in the middle of it, the one person Ruka actually cared about keeping safe throughout what was going on at this ball.

He could hear loud buzzing, people screaming, shouting spells, the smell of burning flesh wafting through the air for a moment, but none of it seemed to matter as he dropped the torches under his arm and lifted his wand in the direction of the fight. His mind registered the fact that Jack was already pointing his own wand at the boy who had had a drink thrown at him not too long ago, but that also meant he had his back turned to the second party involved, and whether Jack just trusted the girl enough not to hurt him, she was getting ready to attack someone in the dark, almost blindly, and who was to say she'd even realise that it was Jack who had gotten himself into the line of attack?

No, Ruka was unwilling to risk that scenario without at least doing something, so the tip of his wand found the girl in a split second. He had already failed to keep one person out of harm's way tonight, but it wasn't going to stop him from trying again. "Immobulus," he cried out for the second time that night, right hand clutching his wand just as tightly as his left hand was clutching his lit torch.

His biggest hope was just that his spell wouldn't miss and hit the wrong target instead.

The moment the lights went out Maria knew trouble was coming. The party was already in full swing before this, the orchestra playing, people dancing, eating and there were also several people fighting. Something about a returning student, and a fight about flowers, with spells and angry word being thrown around. It was as if there was a cosmic force that decided to shake things up even more when people least expected it.

Next came the buzzing. Maria had to look at everyone’s reactions to make sure that she just wasn’t hearing things. She was sure people heard it too, looking around also searching for the source. Several other students had taken their wands out and casted Lumos, allowing some sort of sight against the darkness of the new moon.

And then like Dementors at an amusement park, a swarm of large insect-looking creatures came down upon the pitch, about two feet tall, the faint lights from the students’s wands giving them an almost clear picture of the things. They looked odd, their insect body something Maria had never seen before, but at could be best described as looking like a wasp’s. Their wings however, looked like moth wings. They looked ripped and tattered, just adding to their menacing look.

Eventually these “mosp” things started heading towards party-goers, or just taking up random spaces. Several people started shouting spells, and running away, others throwing things or grabbing things to hit them. Maria quickly analyzed her own position. Everyone had started panicking and she was too. It all happened so fast and there was so much chaos around her to make her head spin. Suddenly, she felt the Yoohoo she had drank threatening to come back for a second act but wrestled the feeling down. She tried to make a run for the entrance, adrenaline pumping with a need to get to safety. However, her plans were foiled as a mosp had taken its place near the table there, rummaging around some flowers. She had to think fast. It hadn’t noticed her yet but who’s to say the bouquet would keep it occupied?

While she had no doubt in her batting and throwing skills, that might just make them mad.The young girl didn’t think it was best to point spells at the mosps either, because that would mean hitting something or someone else if she missed. No, there had to be a better way. She heard some people cast Incendio. Maybe the smoke from the fires would drive them away?

A brief memory of the occurrence in the Hufflepuff Common Room flashed acroos her mind, making her gag. No, she had to think straight. Alright, we have mosps, plants, food and someone had started setting things on fire. Mosps, plants… and fire! Mosps and fire! That was it!

Running over to nearby bush, she pointed her wand and made the shape of a candle flame. “Incendio!”

If there was a better time to test the saying “moths to a flame” it would be now.

Action: Casting Incendio at a nearby bush.

God grass, what was taking them so long to fix the lights? He would’ve really appreciated them if Hanako could finish Kara’s gift and return before anyone worries about him. Although he was not one of the most favorable students in their year, he definitely wouldn’t hear the end of it from Kara. The two liked to go back and forth about who’s getting hurt and who’s getting worried, it was honestly hilarious. Overall, he didn’t want her to fret.

Amidst their dark surroundings, it seemed like plenty of people had managed to cast Lumos. A spell which he had forgotten existed. Although they did a great job of allowing other people to somewhat see the situation, Hanako was too far away to get enough light to finish his gift.

Did the party had to go on like this? People waving their lit wands and continuing whatever they were doing? If so, he dreaded an interaction with one of the light holders to help him out for a while.

His calm demeanor quickly turned stiff at sudden screaming, crying, and overall painful sounds to his ears. Did the lack of lights scare them that much? What a bunch of scaredy cats, Hanako rolled his eyes.

It was only when he saw flowers and stuff being lit, and faint buzzing sounds that seemed to grow louder by the second, did he realize the lack of light might not be the thing that’s making everyone panic.

Vampire Mosps? In the distance, he heard the lioness’s Katrina Walker screams loud and clear, voice laced with panic it almost sent chills down his spine. “ やれやれやれ。。。” His voice was tight, threatening to tremble as the situation slowly crawled onto him. やれ = how troublesome

He couldn’t really hear anything else after that because his only focused remained on a sky that was once clear and sparkling now swarmed with gigantically hideous flying bugs. One in particular caught his eye. mosps 13 .

He tightened his hold onto the bunch of flowers he recently picked, fresh in his hands.

He didn’t like….the way it looked at him. As if….it’s ignoring everyone else and returning the attention Hanako gave to it back to him. If this were a dance, Hanako would’ve been flattered by its intense eyes, but those stingers don’t look like they were meant for dancing.

So knowing he was this close to his grave, he did what any other sheltered little boy would do while he’s frozen on the spot whilst barely making out the monster in the sky that’s ready to attack him. He screamed.

As her wand illuminated, a low buzzing sound sent a chill down her spine. She would whip her head around to Althea and Percival.

"What the hell was that?" Kara said, the eerie humming sound still ringing in ears.

Kara moved her wand around slightly, wanting to see if there was anything she could spot, trying to find the spawn point of the sound. Her body was trembling gently, with her eyes batting around.

She would then see a large, bee like thing with two stingers now buzzing around, some even stinging people. She would clasp her free hand over her mouth to stop herself from gasping in fear.

She watched, her feet almost glued to the ground. Kara then looked as one of the bee, wasp, whatever the things were, would go in the way that Hanako had gone.

"Oh no..Hanako went that way!" She said, cursing under her breath.

And almost on queue, she heard a familiar scream, the wasp-looking double stingered monster had found it's way to Hanako. She immediately felt Percival grab her hand and then run off with her, and she followed, letting her heels kick off behind her.

[If they find Hanako]
"Percival! Did you find Hanako?" She yelled as she ran over to the blonde haired boy.

The boy running over to Hanako and then grabbing him had given Kara her answer.

[If they successfully hide under the table.]

She gasped for air, then looked at Hanako, he was probably scared from the whole experience. Kara looked at her dress, as she had slid under the table, it had gotten caught on something and tore, so Kara just ripped the rest of the rim off, half of her calves now showing.

"What the hell Hanako! You could've gotten seriously hurt! Don't ever run off like that again! I don't care if you didn't know these double stingered monster were here, just don't scare me like that!" She whispered rashly, her eyes welling up with tears.

She rarely cursed, only when she was mad or scared. Kara hugged Hanako tightly, soft sobs escaping her lips. She was upset, she didn't care if Hanako didn't like hugs, she was scared out of her mind.
Action: First getting grabbed by Percival to go and find Hanako, then hiding under a table with her wand still illuminated. Hopefully she wouldn't get hurt, but if she does, it won't be pretty.

The pair of would be dancers were swiftly joined by two others seeking to add to this cocktail of red and blue. AJ's flare seemed to go off without a hitch and was soon joined by a few others. "Hoopfulleh one o' tha prufusser's sees tha." He mused, keeping his wand drawn as it seems their troubles were not over that easily. At least there was some light...literally...to the situation now. "Grus an'...ehm, sorreh yer neem's nae comin' meh way." He apologised to the boy, he felt like he had seen him before, but the face being illuminated only by Lumos didn't exactly aid in the game of recognition. "Cheers fer tha leeght. Uf thus wes wha' tha' wunter bull wes leek am elmost dussupunted ah didnae come." He joked, hoping to bring everyone's mood up a bit.

Lark seemed about ready to crack a joke of her own before being interrupted by the sound of screaming over the way. One of the girl's seemed to have contracted a bad case of 'being on fire' which would need to be immediately remedied, and Lark clearly saw that, unperturbed by the endless buzzing around them the Scotsman followed the Irish lass towards the flame, hoping their lights would stick with them for this. He held his wand steady ready to send any beastie that came their way packing.

He took a brief look around to survey the chaos, and despite the already existing mishap with the use of fire it seemed the solution of the Hogwarts students was in fact to add more fire. Irritated, the boy yelled at the top of his lungs "FER THA LOVE UF GOD, BEERNUN DOON THA PUTCH SHEDNAE BE PLAN A!" His point made to anyone who would listen, he put himself back on guard duty, protecting his date as she did her thing.

Percival stood with Althea and Kara. He was glad that Kara had thought ahead and provided the group with a small bit of light. The light honestly helped melt away some of his fears. Percival glanced towards the girl acting as their flashlight. The boy was still confused by what Althea had said about a girlfriend. As far as he knew, Hanako thought of Kara as a friend.

Percival glanced toward Althea as she spoke up. While he was grateful she was trying to calm his fears about Hanako. He couldn't help but feel restless as he glanced around trying to locate Hanako.

Hanako, his friend, was somewhere out there. He didn't know the exact location of his friend. Though he did know the relative direction the boy had wandered off to.

Percival's head whipped to his left as he heard a scream. In a way, it sounded almost like Hanako though it was hard to tell. His gaze looked to Kara as she moved her wand slightly. "God your right." he gulped realizing that their friend was in danger.

Percival grabbed onto Kara's hand as he did not want to walk into the dark alone. The thought of letting his only light source walkway was enough to get Percival to go with her. Percival quickly walked slightly in front of Kara. Just in case, they ran into any obstacles in the dark.

It was difficult to run only being able to see in front of you a little ways. Especially, since the pair were heading towards the darker part of the Ball.

[If they find Hanako]

Percival gasped as he saw the familiar form of his dormmate, Hanako Tone. The boy looked scared beyond belief and was staring up at a rather large looking bug. The sight of the creature was enough to make Percival think of getting therapy.

"Hana!" he called using his friend's nickname instead of his traditional name. The bug was dangerously close and it seemed like it was trying to attack his friend.

[If Percival is able to successfully drag Hana]

The pair were coming up onto the side of Hanako, and Percival reached out to grasp his friend's left arm.

With a hard tug, the boy pulled him and Hanako in the opposite direction of the bug. Percival kept his hand interlaced with Kara's not wanting to lose her.

"Don't let your wand drop Kara!" he said as he desperately tried to run away from the bug.

[If Percival is able to successfully slide under the table]

Up ahead, one of the now-empty tables sat. The place looked like a good place to catch their breath and figure out an actual plan. Percival decided to slide the last couple of feet under the table. The little stunt was similar to a slide tackle that he would sometimes use during soccer. The movement would drag Hanako down underneath the table, and the boy hoped the other wouldn't hit his head.

With his dress pants and shirt now ruined, Percival looked around wildly trying to make sure everyone had made it to the table.

Oliver arrived by Erin's side finally, the pushing and shoving going on by panicking students easily nudged the weak boy about. He held onto the table next to his friend and was wincing to try make out the figure next to Erin... disappointingly Jack. Had Erin not singed this leech off already? It did not matter now, something sinister was clearly approaching, darkness always meant evil. At least in the stories it did.

"Oliver. Oliver! Get outta here! Just get outta here before you get hurt!"

Oliver shook his head,"Come with me! Let's broom it!" Oliver told, having seen Erin carrying her broom when they were in the light of the changing rooms. It was then he saw the mosps enter the area and the buzzing sound that he heard earlier begun to make sense in his head. From their faint glow he could see silhouettes of ginormous stingers, ones that could easily be fatal if taken to the torso or head. The boy let out a whining sound, he hated bugs. He really wanted to leave. "Erin, seriously! Let's go!"

He glanced to his left to see that kid Thomas returning with a drop kick. It was here that Oliver figured why Erin was not leaving now. She always had to finish a fight. Pulling his wand, Oliver was about to unleash a spell but Jack threw himself in between them, blocking Oliver's line of sight with Thomas but also casting a much needed spell. Perhaps the kid wasn't such a burden after all? Oliver begun to move in around to circle Thomas, only to see a wand lighting up from the corner of his eye.

"Immobulus!"

Turning towards the source, Oliver could see a stranger aiming straight at Erin. Bounding forward, Oliver raised his wand and swung it vertically, yelling "PROTEGO!" as he cast the shield charm before Erin. If at all possible, Oliver would aim to deflect the spell back at Ruka. He stood firmly guarding Erin, prepared to unleash a volley of his own attacks.

Oswald decided that he did not feel like partying today. Especially in an environment full of formal clothed people. It reminded him of his mother's funeral. No, he would not be there and have fun with his fellow students. A quite and peaceful evening without any other person sounded lile the exactly right thing for him.
