Cecelia Queen shivered as she walked down to the Quidditch pitch. The Quidditch Pitch was one of Cecelia's many favorite places at Hogwarts. Well, it really was all the Grounds, but Cecily especially loved the Quidditch Pitch.

Ever since Cecily was a little girl, she had always dreamed of being on the Quidditch team. To other people and to her family, she didn't seem like the athletic type. She seemed like the kind of girl who would rather be studying with a cup of coffee, or staying warm inside. Cecily, of course, was that type, but always had wanted to be a Quidditch player simply because of her family history. Her mom, a famous Russian witch, her grandmother, another famous Russian witch, and many other generations of her mom's side had been in Quidditch. Cecily loved her mother and always tried to be like her. Almost a little too much like her.

Cecily never had tried out for the Quidditch team, however, because she was too busy with school to even have time to practice. Her parents also never wanted her to take the risk. Quidditch was a very dangerous sport, and often times her mother didn't want Cecily to do it. The Ravenclaw girl had never known why her mother would suggest such a thing, but guessed it was simply because she had possibly gotten hurt while playing.

Her parents also had never bought her a broom because they knew Cecelia wasn't strong enough. Cecily knew she wasn't, but never liked to think it. Often times at home she would sneak around the house to borrow her brother's Quidditch set. She was too scared to get on a broom, but often times would practice catching the Quaffle, and sometimes did it with her brothers.

At this time of day and year there weren't many students out and about. Most people were inside studying, or doing homework, or escaping the cold January air. This is exactly why Cecily was outside. She liked people, sometimes, but other times she felt like a total introvert and just wanted to be away from all the noise. Usually outdoors was the place to go whenever a student wanted to read. Usually the Great Hall and the dormitories were full of people talking.

Cecelia sat down on a rock, breathing hot air into her hands to keep warm. She had her big robes on, but they barely kept her warm.

Oh, it's always so cold. Maybe I should just stay inside. Cecelia thought miserably. She looked around, wondering what she could do. She really didn't want to go back in, but she might not have a choice.

There has to be something to do. Cecily continued to look around, and gazed at the Quidditch Pitch. There were the rings - the big rings that the Quaffle would always go through to score points for their team. Cecily always loved to admire the pitch. Everything about it was so... unique.

She continued to stare up at them, wishing she could practice Quidditch. But she had no broom, and no Quaffle, and any idea of how to play her dream sport. Calmly, Cecily turned her head toward the snow. An idea was popping in her brain - her tremendously creative and imaginative brain. She smiled.

"Of course. That is what I shall do," the young girl said out loud, as if talking to the snow. "Come here, you beautiful snow." She gracefully picked up a rather large piece of snow. It was the perfect texture to make a snowball. Hard, but soft also. She gently balled up the snow until it was firmly held together.

Biting her lip and sticking her tongue out slightly, Cecily closed one eye and aimed toward the Quidditch hoops. They were very tall, and quite honestly no one would be able to say how Cecily got this impossible idea in her head to throw it through a hoop, but Cecily did it anyway.

She grunted a little as she threw the snowball. It came nowhere close to the hoop, and started to drop. Down, down, down, down it went. Cecily watched it closely, and then all the sudden, Pow! It had hit someone. Perfectly in the face.

Clump clump clump! The squeaky sound of crunching snow sounded lightly as Dorothy stomped through the knee-high powder.  Days of consistent snowfall formed the high, fluffy piles that carpeted the quidditch pitch in freezing cold layers of freezing cold snow.  Dorothy didn't particularly care for snow at this moment.

Sure it was fun, snowmen were always a decent creative outlet, and it was quite pretty to look at.  But it could also find its way into ones shoes and leggings, where it would then melt in the ultimate torture of a pre-teen girl.  Already she could feel the hairs on her legs and arms rising as goosebumps prickled her skin, a result of the cold water that the melting snow cried.

Her leggings clung to her wet, skinny legs as she continued her high-kneed march through the snow.  Grabbing the elbows of her robes with her bright yellow mittens, Dorothy made a desperate attempt to contain the warmth that remained in her body.  Her mission at the quidditch pitch was simple.  She was covering for another prefect, one who was too busy to patrol their part of the grounds.

From what she could tell, there was no one on the quidditch pitch to prefect, so she didn't plan on hanging around too long.  A warm cup of tea sounded amazing, perhaps paired with a seat by the window in the cozy Hufflepuff common room and, of course, her secret pair of fuzzy bunny slippers.  First she would change into her green velvet pajamas and out of her wet robes and leggings.  Yes, soon she would turn around and escape the frigid grounds and embrace her inner cozy-comfy-Hufflepuff goddess.

The march of the Hufflepuff prefect halted a few meters behind one of the three tall rings.  From what she could tell, no one occupied the quidditch pitch at this time, so she hoped to return to the warmth of the castle.

Dorothy took a deep breath and exhaled, watching as her breath turned to smoke at the touch of winter's cold hand.  It seemed appropriate to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the snow.  The bright glitter cast by white fabric of nature, that shown in darkness and light equally.  Appearing once a year, to first be appreciated and then dreaded.  Perhaps mother nature took great joy in this wonder.  Dorothy imagined her, watching happily as little children made snow angels.  Offering kisses in the form of snowflakes.  Caressing birds and bunnies with-

SPLAT! "BLAAAAARGH!" Dorothy's face burned with unholy power as a large clump of snow splattered across her pale features.  Snow coated her lips, clung to her eyebrows and eyelashes, and made her face look like that of an abominable snowman.   The prefect stumbled blindly for a few moments before falling face first into the snow.  This resulted in another unholy shout of anguish as her warm beanie fell off, exposing her hair and face once again to the horror of the snow.  "AaAGHh! Deten-oof!" She fell forward in an attempt to regain her footing.  The snow was shoved up her robe sleeves.

Dorothy stood with the grace of an intoxicated mermaid, stumbling drunkenly and swaying from the shock of the coldness.  She raised her finger, still blinded by the snow, and shouted a jumbled phrase in complete frustration.  "deTENtion! WhodIDthAT? WhodIDthAT?" She wiped snow out of her eyes in quick, sharp motions. Spotting a figure about ten meters away, Dorothy stepped forward.

Her hair was wild, a few strands sticking to her bright red, wet face.  An expression of sheer rage did not improve the monstrous look of the furious, quivering girl.   A burning desire for revenge suddenly filled her entire being, and with quick, sure motions she swiped a handful of snow from the ground.  She pounded it into a ball and raised her snow-missile above her tousled hair.

"De-ten-TION!!" Her arm snapped forward, and the snowball flew towards the unfortunate Ravenclaw, only to impact and splatter.  Dorothy's face lit up with wild joy.

And then the Ravenclaw looked up at her.

She winced as her snowball it the person perfectly in the face. Oh! How could she do that! Now it would be all awkward. Clapping her hands over her mouth, Cecelia started to walk over to what appeared to be a girl, maybe a second year wearing a beanie in Hufflepuff colors with... well Cecily couldn't really see her eyes. Snow was covered on her whole face, from chin to forehead. Cecelia stopped to observe the scene. She started to scream, stumble, and just like a snap she was in the snow. Her beanie started to fall off, revealing blond... very blond hair. Cecily felt bad for the girl as she continued to yell in frustration.

What on earth is she saying? Cecelia wondered.

Cecily moved her head to try to see her face better. Nope, didn't help at all. Her face was still disguised in snow. Then, all the sudden she wiped the snow away from her face and started to come at Cecily. Her face was red with rage as she grabbed some snow from the ground.

"De-ten-TION!!" the girl screamed as she held the snowball up high, ready to throw it.
"Wait! I-" WOOSH! SPLAT! The snowball came flying at her and hit her in the face, just as it did to the Hufflepuff. Caught by surprise, Cecily stumbled over on a mound of snow beside her, drenching her robes in snow.

She felt embarrassed as she tried to stand up, but stumbled over. Her eyesight was still blocked as she tried to wipe away the snow. She didn't say anything, but felt like yelling just as the girl did. Her hands finally reached her cheeks, and she flung off the chilly frozen water and blinked a couple times.

"Hey! Hey! HEY!" Cecily called at the blond haired girl. "That was not very nice! I did not even mean to hit you!" "I-" but Cecily stopped short as she looked at the girl and remembered what she had said.

Detention. Her words were so clear but Cecily barely had time to think once she had hit the snowball at her. Cecily took a couple of steps back and looked at the girl, terrified.

"Please do not give me detention. I didn't mean to hit you. I'm sorry! Please, my parents would kill me," she looked seriously at the girl who seemed excited. "Won't you least consider it?"

Cecily's parents always wanted her to do the best of her ability, and to hear that she got detention would be one of the worst things that could happen to Cecily. She had never gotten detention before, and never hoped that she would be receiving a letter from her parents telling how disappointed they were in her to receive detention.

The Ravenclaw wiped the remaining snow off her hair and brow, hoping the Hufflepuff wasn't mad at her.
If she gives me detention. But, for what for! Accidentally hitting someone with a snowball! Goodness, and if mum found out, which she probably would.
Cecily shivered from the cold and from those thoughts. It was all in the Hufflepuff's hands now. She waited intensely to see what her response would be.

OOC: Sorry for the late reply! Also, I hope the gif doesn't creep you out.

The blue robes of the Ravenclaw girl were quickly drenched in snow.  Just as the snowball knocked the Hufflepuff prefect to the ground, it also knocked the Ravenclaw into a fresh pile of powdery snow.

Dorothy cocked her head after loosing the snowball.  These Ravenclaws really couldn't take a joke! No matter, Dorothy would have some fun with this.  She shook her wispy blonde hair and clumped her way over the where Cecily stood.  She eyed the girl up and down, and the Ravenclaw sensed Dorothy's strength and spoke.

"Please do not give me detention. I didn't mean to hit you. I'm sorry! Please, my parents would kill me. Won't you at least consider it?"

Dorothy frowned.  "Well, seeing as you've apologized, I suppose I'll have to be a bit more lenient in my punishment methods.  Perhaps you can clean the cleaning supplies or something."  She shrugged before continuing.  "But, I mean, you just ruined a perfectly good opportunity for a snowball fight, so maybe not.  I'm pretty good at thinking up detentions."

Crossing her arms in mock sternness, Dorothy looked the girl up and down.  Ravenclaws were known for being smart and stuff, which mean't this girl was probably a total nerd.  Did nerds have snowball fights?  Dorothy didn't think so.  This girl probably studied for fun, and then got involved in dorky spell-bees with other Ravenclaw nerds.

Now, given the situation, it was impossible for Dorothy to refrain from using this Ravenclaw for her own benefit.  She had recently struggled in her History of Magic class.  The subject was dreadfully boring, and Dorothy's disinterest in it resulted in a drop of her grades.  Soo...

"Ok, here's what we'll do.  We'll have a snowball fight, and if you win, I won't give you detention.  But if I win, you'll help me study for my upcoming History of Magic exams.  Deal?"

She stuck out a mittened hand to the Ravenclaw with a crooked grin.

This would be fun.

The Hufflepuff finally spoke, and Cecily had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. She hated when prefects showed off their power to innocent people just to make them scared. It was simply ridiculous! Especially for what Cecily did. She had no intention of hitting her whatsoever.

She fought the urge again when the girl told her she had ruined an opportunity for a snowball fight. She raised her eyebrows and widened her eyes, thinking, Well I'm obviously not going to hit a person who just gave me detention.

Cecily studied the girl, almost glaring at her, but tried to have a soft expression. She was a very skinny girl with very blonde hair. Her eyes were blueish grey, and she was just a little shorter than Cecily. She was very slender and pale (the snow made her cheeks a little more pinkish, however) and her nose was very petite-looking. She was very pretty, Cecily had to admit.

After a little bit of a pause, the girl spoke again, this time trying to bargain with Cecily. This time, Cecily actually did roll her eyes when the girl asked her to help her study for her History of Magic exam if she won. So the girl was trying to use her. Cecily always didn't like when Ravenclaws had a bad reputation. Everyone thought that all Ravenclaws would do is study all day and all night long, and were always socially awkward and such. Cecily was pretty much the opposite from that. Well, not the exact opposite. Cecily did like to study sometimes, but not 24/7. She was a social butterfly. She would rather be with people then alone reading a book (most of the time). There were also times where she hated studying so much she would be crying over it, or other times where she would rather go to sleep then go to another class.

And to be honest, History of Magic was one of Cecily's least favorite and worst class. She never was a big fan of history, and more just liked learning how to do magic. She didn't fail the class, and understood a lot of it, but didn't necessarily like learning it.

Wondering what to do, Cecily sighed. Why did this have to happen to her? She wasn't the best at snowball fights, mostly because she never liked to hurt people. Snow of course didn't hurt much, but it was annoying when balls of snow would hit you in the face, or anywhere on your body.

But what was the worst that could happen? If Cecily lost, she'd have to help this girl study for History of Magic, which wouldn't be the worst. Sure, she'd have to spend her time helping somebody else with a class she hated, but Cecily could use some studying herself for that class. But if she won, she wouldn't have to help the girl at all. Now as Cecelia thought about it more, it didn't seem too bad of a deal.

Pretending to think hard, Cecelia picked up some snow and played with it, eventually forming a ball. She put it behind her back, still pretending to decide what to do. Finally, she sighed and looked off another direction.

"Alright. So be it." She looked innocently at the floor, then before the girl could speak she whipped her arm around and with all her might tossed it straight in the prefect's face. It hit her successfully, blinding her for a bit. Using the opportunity, Cecily smiled and scampered off in the opposite direction of the girl, laughing. This would be interesting. The battle had begun!

Twack! Dorothy's head snapped back as a clump of snow hit her in the face at full speed.  She stumbled back blindly for a few seconds, wiping the snow from her eyes with wet mittens.  The wasn't fair! The girl was waaay too close.

The blonde frowned as she watched the Ravenclaw retreat. With lightning speed, she crouched down and collected a handful of snow from the ground.  Balling it up in her hands, she stood again and took a moment to aim... aaaand. Fire!

Two snowballs flew into the air, and like heat seeking missals, they found their target.  Two white circles appeared on the Ravenclaw girl's back.  Dorothy laughed out loud before crouching down in the snow.  She quickly cleared a little space around her, shoving the snow into a fortress-like structure.  A few frozen bits of dark green grass appeared, their tips poking out from the trodden down snow.  When Dorothy had finished her 'tower of power' she turned her attention to ammunition.

Grabbing handful after handful of snow, the Hufflepuff prefect pounded that snow into lumpy little spheres.  She piled them up in a little tiny hole she had made by stuffing her entire arm into one of the walls.  Stocking her ammunition in the hole, she grabbed two more snowballs and peeked over her makeshift wall.  Spotting the Ravenclaw girl a few yards away, she threw the snowballs so hard that a little pain shot up her arm.  One sailed high in the sky and landed a few feet away from the girl.  The other just barely hit the girl's foot.

Dorothy's mouth was spread in a wide grin, and her eyes sparkled.  She appeared to consider the fight extremely exciting, and from her actions one could gather that she hadn't played in the snow much as a child.  Sure, snow angels and snowmen occupied her garden as a little girl, but being an only child guaranteed that snowball fights were never an occurrence.  Perhaps this was even her first.

Really, she had nothing to lose.  Either this girl won and she didn't end up with detention (which really Dorothy wasn't planning on giving anyway), or Dorothy won and got free tutoring.  Either way, the outcome would not be negative on her part.  This in itself added greatly to her joviality. Happiness leaked from every portion of her face.

In fact, the Hufflepuff looked murderously happy, and it was certain that she would enjoy whatever happened next.  Dorothy did indeed have a few tricks up her sleeve, and further provocation would only end in her using them.  She was as ruthless as she was kind, and one thing was certain.

This would truly pan out to be the war of the century.

Woosh! as Cecelia retreated she heard a sound, and then a few seconds later her black and blue robes were now partly white. At first she yelled out in pain, but then grinned and giggled once more.

"Oh, you'll pay for that!" she yelled, barely even able to speak because of laughing so hard. Ducking behind a little mound of snow piled on a rock, she spotted the prefect putting things into a hole near her, which Cecily guessed were snowballs. Taking advantage of her time, Cecily did the same, making as many snowballs as she could that could actually stay together.

Perfect. She now had a mound of little, but powerful and hard snowballs for the fight. By this time, the prefect had also finished and immediately began to fire more snowballs. Cecily, realizing what was happening, tried to crouch to avoid the snowballs. The Hufflepuff's first one landed inches away from her, and the other one narrowly hit her toes. Cecily screamed when this happened, as she had felt all the coldness of the snowball sting the front of her foot.

Alright. Cecily had enough. She was feeling a lot of emotions. A little angry, a little annoyed, sad because of the ice cold snow touching her toes, happy because it was extremely fun so far, but also just wanting to go back inside, if that was even an emotion.

Before the Hufflepuff had any more time to fire any other of her snowballs, Cecelia picked several up and rapidly started to fire them with all her strength at the blonde-haired girl. Two of them hit her clean in the chest, one hit her knee, one barely caught her head, (resulting in even brighter, more blonde hair) and the others narrowly missed.

Cecelia almost fell over from laughing so hard. "I told you you'd pay! Ahaha!" she yelled, her abs hurting. "This is too fun. I should do this more often." Cecelia said, partly to herself, but also rather loud.

She quickly retreated back to the mound of snow to restock her collection of snowballs, checking on the Hufflepuff every so often to make sure she wasn't firing again. Sure enough, it took a couple of seconds for the prefect to recover, making time for Cecily to reload and prepare for another fire. The battle was equal now, and Cecily truly couldn't wait to find out who would take the victory.
