The Track

The course would start on the grounds. There was a large, wide space used for flying lessons that now served as the start line for a race between Beauxbatons, Ilvermorny, Durmstrang and of course Hogwarts. The date was October 10th, the sky was overcast and there was a rough northern wind that brought with it a chill (high winds are possible in the "open" areas). A tour of the course would reveal a periloud track that took them over the open fields of Hogwarts, through the Viaduct and into the Forbidden Forest. There was a Waterfall with a Tunnel through which they would travel for a brief distance before emerging in the forest. The forest was rife with peril (environmental attackers are possible), they would quickly find themselves in Hogsmeade where they would dark between buildings and make a hairpin turn back to Hogwarts. Back through the Forbidden Forest they would pass perilously close to the infamous Whomping Willow and eventually back to the Flying Field.

This only served as a basic idea of what they would face. Their greatest peril would likely be one another.

Finally the day arrived, it was the day of the broom racing event and something Charles has been looking forwarded to. The boy enjoyed racing, particularly the feeling of being in the air it just felt free like you could go anywhere or do anything to your heart's desire. Charles approached the starter of the track and thought at first it was rather small and poorly designed, for probably the first time he missed the tracks at Dumstrang but nevertheless the third year would come out on top.

Dressed in his broom racing uniform for Dumstrang and armed with a shooting star broom, Charles walked onto the field and couldn't help himself as he look around at the stands with hope that his best friend; Fyodor Prior was up there, cheering him on but Charles knew him to well and figured that probably wasn't some he would do so the third year got his head back in the race as he approached his mark.

Charles couldn't help but glance around at his competition, there were the usual ones from Dumstrang that's right everyone was a competitor according to Charles, which is why he liked broom racing quite a lot because he didn't need to relay on anyone. Then their were the ones from Ilvermorny who had only four racers and from what Fyodor said in their letters about Ilvermorny he doubted that they would be hard to beat. Charles then found his eyes on the beauxbatons team, now that one made the boy smile a bit at the french as he saw familiar face among them; Enzo Delcroix.

Charles just knew he had to say something to the young boy as he let his eyes settle on the Hogwarts team and couldn't help but laugh a bit at them, what a particular bunch for racers, as Charles started to walk past toward his spot he bumped his shoulder into one of the team Hogwarts members, @Aurelia Notrésvace, whom Charles saw was female but was getting strange vibes off her so he just mutter in a British/Russian accent " sorry," but he then spoke something in Russian " so much for the Hogwarts,"Charles then took his place but right before he again bumped another but this time it was a male, @Percival Gray, not that Charles cared as he spoke "sorry," but not long after he spoke in Russian " Idiot, " now that he was past the Hogwarts students he took his spot and couldn't help but smile over to Enzo as he spoke to the boy in French " glad to see you on the track, may the best racer win."

Charles acted friendly but he intended to win and even if he didn't, he had a feeling that someone from Dumstrang would win they had to. Charles mounted the shooting star he had and cursed under his breath a bit at his older brother who snapped his broom and so forced him to use a shooting star but no problem he would still surely win this race for Dumstrang and for himself.

Broom racing, like most magical sports, this one was dangerous. Aurelia would have preferred quidditch, if it weren't for the contract she had signed. According to the contract of her betrothal, she was not to participate in activities that could harm her well-being, Quidditch and Duelling to name a few. She had signed up for quidditch, but after being told of by the love of her life who somehow found his way into the Scottish castle, Aurelia dropped the sport.

Aurelia was not necessary upset for losing her place as second string seeker for Gryffindor, after all, there were a few individuals who held an abhorrence towards her. The captain being one of them. Rebellious was not a word Aurelia would use to describe herself, but right after she signed out of Gryffindor, she heard about the broom racing. It would have been a shame not to use her broom she had worked hard to save up for. It was not too long before Aurelia had put her name down.

The leader of the S.W.A.G club found herself on the grounds on an early afternoon. The sturdy shaft of the silver arrow in her grip. It was not just students the students of Hogwarts she would be competing with but those from 4 different schools. Of course, Aurelia knew that before hand, but to see the unfamiliar faces all in dressed in a variety of colours all in one vicinity was a little overwhelming. After letting out a breath to calm her nerves Aurelia joined the small crowd. She was early.

Having a much taller boy bump into her all of the sudden made her uneasy. The aura around her flared around her instinctively. Aurelia would not only acknowledge his apology with a polite nod. Hopefully she would be able to calm her nerves before the race started.

Phyllis was ridiculously excited. It was finally here, the broom race, and she hadn't been able to sit still all day. She was a little bit nervous, but that was probably normal when you were about to do a sport for the first time that basically involved an obstacle course and things attacking you while flying. But she was mostly excited, anyways. Flying was literally her favorite thing to do, fast flying in particular. She wasn't really too concerned; magic could fix broken bones and cuts in an instant, which was probably the extent of whatever injuries she'd pick up.

Besides, she had an awesome team. She knew Rainbows and Theo pretty well, and the other kid, Andrew, was probably okay. And on her awesome Silver Arrow that was easily her most prized possession, she was confident Ilvermorny had a serious shot at this.

Phyllis had her wand, but mostly because she was supposed to. The Thunderbird was pretty sure she wasn't going to use it much because, well, she knew spellcasting was really not her strength. Dodging and flying fast were, though, so maybe she could get by on pure flying skill. Her tangly hair had been tied back in a ponytail to stay out of her face and she was outfitted in racing gear.

This was it. The race would start any minute now. Some of the racers looked nervous, but not Phyllis. She was calm. She was ready. To hopefully spur some camaraderie among her teammates, she went around to each of them and offered a high five. "Good luck, guys! We're going to kill this!" With one last encouraging grin, she mounted her Silver Arrow and kicked off. Hovering in midair, eyes narrowing in anticipation, Phylicia Stanwood awaited the start of the game.

Iris was practically bursting at the seams. Finally, finally the day had come. Broom Racing. Long evenings and early mornings and prepping daily had come to this day. Hours and hours spent on the broom, honing her skills, perfecting in her reaction time, learning everything there was to know about racing. She was getting so good, yet hardly anyone knew just how good she had become. Over the summer, her Bestefar Norwegian for Grandpa had been teaching her everything he knew.

Iris had become really good at racing. She could beat most people on a straight stretch. Her dodging was pretty good as well. It definitely helped that her rich grandparents had bought her a pretty good broom. It wasn’t the best, but it was better than a lot of other people.

Hands loose on the broom. Back straight but leaned forward. Eyes ahead, never looking down,” Iris mumbled the last things her grandpa had said. Papa had raced, he had been amazing in his time, won all sorts of trophies and awards. In fact, the reason her grandparents were so rich was because of his racing. “Relax, when you tense, it messes up your balance. Don’t focus on anything that comes at you. Trust your instincts. Never take shortcuts,” The verbal reminders felt comforting, but they were low murmurs, it wasn’t like anyone was going to notice her anyway.

Phyllis, one of the younger students dished out highfives. She seemed really excited and calm. The calm was what Iris needed. She smiled, letting the tension in her back relax. She got this, Ilvermorney was so going to win. "Come on Ilvermorney, lets show the other schools who's the best!"

Iris slipped her wand in her pocket and grabbed her Nimbus 1700 with her other hand. Time to race.

This was great! Ever since the second he woke up, he had been jazzed, like over-wound toy going berserk and flopping around everywhere. He made sure to gulp down as much protein as his stomach could possibly handle, even taking more from the Great Hall to snack on for all the time he had to wait in-between. He needed to consume to grow, grow to overpower. He could feel the spirit of victory by any means shining like a bright star, only the more brilliant for the thought of what great satisfaction he would derive from leaving everyone in the dust.

Like I said, great stuff. Competition was intoxicating, he could always picture it long before it happened. Winning, that is. He knew he deserved it, and that no one out there really compared. Even though he wished his best friend all the luck in the world, he was still going to be at best second place. Speaking of, he couldn’t help but notice that Mik had started acting different since summer. Yefim had been mostly caught up in his own head, given the whole event with the giant breaking his leg, so he had felt things were just staying the same, since he also switched over to broom racing the same time Yefim did.

It wasn’t a bad change, though. If anything, he was finally starting to let things go more often. He stopped holding Yefim back when he was making him look bad, and started participating more instead in the blatant disregard for others. They just didn’t matter, and Mik was just coming around to see it. None of these ants made any difference, except as entertainment. It was funny when they made their doofy crying faces and acted all stupid and wimpy. Yefim hadn’t really ever stopped to think about why that was so-- he didn’t have to. He was an immaculate soul and they were all nobodies. The fact that he had a fleshy body that could be destroyed by a powerful giant only made him angry. He needed time and training to overcome his physical limitations, but in the meantime, he wouldn’t even think of passing up the chance to trounce all over them to remind them of who they were dealing with.

And really, what was better than a good laugh. Competition was all about having a good time. When it finally came time to get to the starting line, Yefim sprinted there. He was more than prepared, he was already at the finish line. He looked around at the other racers as they gathered, wearing a smug grin like a permanent fixture. When he saw Mik, he would wave him over, though it was up to him if he wanted to start side-by-side. He knew that if he needed help, Yefim would help him. He was perhaps the only one who had that honor.

Either way, he would be on his broom the moment he was able, so electrified as to look painful to the touch. Good luck, suckers.

Coming from a family full of adrenaline junkies and idolizing a prankster and speed freak, Logan was used to doing action-packed and insanely dangerous things. He went bike racing through a junkyard once when he was 9 and got his left arm ripped when he got to close to a huge jagged of metal. He still won though.
Ever since he got to Hogwarts, he met people who were good influences on him and his adrenaline levels were slowly reducing. While goofing off in his common room, he saw a poster for broom racing and a slot was wide open and he said why not? He didn't have much broom knowledge like the others and wasn't as skilled as them being a first year and all. But he was a natural at flying and needed some excitement so that alone, moved him to write his name down.
He grabbed a Nimbus 1001 which was a gift from Xailah and his wand and headed for the track.
Just as he suspected, he knew there was gonna be someone better than him here cuz of course there were three other schools involved in this race.
He was glad this wasn't an individual race because if it was he would definitely lose.
He mounted his broom, prepped his wand and took a deep breath.

Nick was absolutely ecstatic that broom racing was making its rounds in Hogwarts. While most boys in his town were obsessed with Quidditch, Nick never really enjoyed the sport. Sure, he pretended to enjoy the game for the sake of not being fun of, but he found the game hard to watch, with too much team strategy and rules for his liking. No, Nick enjoyed the chaos that was broom racing.

Broom racing was great, not having to worry about what your teammates are doing, just trying to get past all the ridiculous obstacles in your way. Was he going to win? Probably not. Did he have a good broom? No, just a school one, but he was trying to save up. Did that matter though? No, the game was fun and Nick was ready to participate in the first broom race at Hogwarts for a while.

As Nick stepped into the field, he looked over to the spectators. He knew most of them were cheering for either the three other schools or even the other Hogwarts racers if they were Hogwarts students, but he was fine with that. He hadn't made much of an effort to make friends at this school, so why should they root for a stranger rather than their friend? Nick did secretly hope that at least someone would be concerned when he eventually submitted to the bloodbath.

Getting into position, Nick saw one of the Durmstrang students bump into two Hogwarts kids, which happened to be the only two students in the entire roster he sort of knew. There was the boy, who Nick remembered in the Slytherin common room, he remembered his name starting with a... P? Then there was, of course, Aurelia, who Nick remembered having a vision of her being mauled to death. He gave her a nod of condolence, not really knowing what else to do.

The racers all started to gather and Nick was starting to get really pumped. Nothing exhilarated an adolescent boy more than the sweet rush of adrenaline when the threat of death looms over his head. "Who's ready tae die!" Nick said excitedly, trying to pump up everyone in his own... special way. Hopefully no one actually got seriously maimed, but this is Hogwarts so who knows?

Angélique awoke that morning renewed and refreshed; today was the day that they got to broom race. While she would prefer to win, she was just happy to fly through the skies unhindered again. The carriage rides and the small drills were great and all, but they didn’t hold a candle to flying through a real track. It was the euphoria of the air whipping past you, the adrenaline pounding through your body, and seeming feel of electricity dancing atop your skin. Yes, nothing felt better, not even flirting with the boys.

Angel dressed in her white flannel trousers and a sky-blue and white horizontally striped sweater before pleating her honey-brown hair back. Finally, adding on her trimmed leather pads, her Beauxbaton jacket, and carrying her leather helmet in one hand and her broom in the other, she made her way to the starting position with her fellow Beauxbatons. As she slid on her helmet, her eyes scanned the spectators, wondering if Milo would be out there watching. Her mind then also went to the other penpal that she had, had over the summer, a Hogwarts first-year named Katie. Then, of course, Sylvie, Madeline, Cassanora, and Jacqueline could all be out there too, and she wanted to make her friends proud. They were all good at something of their own, and Broom racing was Angel’s. Hopefully, now she would prove it.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath of the crisp Scottish air allowing it to help clear her mind as she mounted her broom.

Xailah sat on her broom, fidgeting with the fuzzy dice that hung from it. Today, was the day that she had been eagerly waiting for. Today was the day she hoped to make a name for herself- a legacy for herself. She had spent the past four years watching her peers, involve themselves in extracurricular activities, like Quidditch and... Quidditch. Now that she thought of it, there wasn't much for anyone to involve themselves in- but she figured that staring this month, that would change. Especially with the rumors of the long-awaited dueling club, buzzing around. Both of Xailahs friends- Meenauh, and Pericles- expressed a great interest in the sport. She was happy that both knew, and had found, their niche. It wouldn't surprise her if both signed up- they were exceptional duelist. But that would leave Xailah with an issue to face. She would be the odd one out, amongst her group of friends. She wanted to find her niche too- but where? She didn't even know what she wanted out of life- hell, half the time she didn't even know what she wanted for breakfast in the morning.

But then one morning she would hear it. A little rumor about broom racing. Three years ago Xailah wouldn't have even dreamt of participating in such a thing. But here she was now. Waiting on the track. She needed to participate in something. Dueling didn't enable enough freedom. Quidditch gave a little freedom, but... but the sport wasn't fast enough. Xailah needed a little speed in her life. There was no question about it really. Broom racing looked to be the sport for her. So she got herself a broom. The young metamorph looked at all the people arriving- she wondered if any of her friends would stop by to watch the race. A half-mask, and goggles covered her face. It would appear that she took a page out of Pericles book. Xailah would spy a familiar face amongst the students gathered for the game. Aurelia. Her roommate. The metamorph wasn't exactly friends with the girl- nor did she exactly like her. But she did have respect for her. Despite trying to eat her... She knew that the S.W.A.G club leader was going to be a good ally. "Aurelia."

Xailah called to the Gryffindor. She pulled her mask down a little; her goggles would be pushed up. Sharp, pearly whites, and glimmering golden hues would be revealed. "We should ssstick together, yes? I think we could win this." A devilish smile was sent Aurelias way. Xailah didn't have any school pride- but she certainly didn't want to lose against the kids from the other schools. The smile lingered, as Xailahs features began to shift. Slotted pupils quivered, and pressed themselves into a rounded shape. Grey-blue flooded into the gold of her irises. Before she knew it, Aurelia would be staring at her own living reflection. Aurelia would be the only one to see the change; for as soon as it was made, the mask and goggles would quickly return, to their original spot on Xailahs face. It was just a little trick to use later for when the race actually began. No one else needed to know of her metamorphic nature, just yet.
