Taste for the Unexpected
Interacting with @Rafael D'Spacito
Wren was tired.
She had been up all night studying for an exam in one of her classes. Also she was on her way to the last class of the day. At least she got to see Rafa. They sat together in almost every class, much to some of the teachers dismay, who didn't like the duo saying they were disruptive. Did they talk? Some. Enough to disrupt? Not as much as some teachers said. Lucky for them though Charms was not one of those classes.
Wren loved charms, it was one of her favorite subjects. She loved learning about the different charms there were and what they did. She also enjoyed the time in class they had to practice the charms and pretty much everything about it. Walking into the classroom she spotted Rafa in their usual seats, so she went to sit by him with a big smile on her face happy to see him.
"Hey Rafa! How are you? Did you get your homework done?? It was hard wasn't it?"
She started to ramble off again and had to stop herself. Rafa didn't really like it when she started spitting words. Who could she blame? She didn't really enjoy it herself but she just couldn't think enough to stop.

Rafa had never been the fondest of homework.
Really, it were rather pointless, he had decided, in getting a child interested in school. Instead of teaching a young boy a pointless fact that he would probably never again use in his life, it only succeeded in confusing the boy more, sending his mind spiraling into madness. At least, this was Raf’s perception. Homework always seemed to get on his last nerve, testing his short temper and his patience. He hated it, and it was simple as that. There was nothing more to say about the matter.
Charms class, on the other hand, was a completely different story. It seemed to Rafa that there were very few things in life that he actually enjoyed with a passion – sports, music. Charms class. There was just something about the art that he would always have trouble explaining – perhaps it was the simplicity of it, the easy art to casting the spell. Or, maybe it was Vernatis, and his kindly antics. Whatever the case, Charms was the only class Rafael really enjoyed. [That, and Flying.]
That was why he wore a bright grin on his face as he made his way to the Charms room, a slight skip in his step and a bright air to his demeanor. He really was excited about this class – though he talked out a lot, he really did enjoy the class all in itself. The room seemed bright today, brighter than normal, the light shining through the windows in such a way that it gave the environment a comforting hue. The room slowly filling up, Rafael decided to find himself a seat.
Taking a seat, he quickly got comfortable in his surroundings, setting his books down and leaning back in his chair. He set one of his books on his lap, his eyes quickly scanning the pages in interest. “Alohamora?” he muttered absently. “Interesting…”
It wasn’t long before he saw a familiar face, the same face that sat beside him in almost all of their classes. "Hey Rafa! How are you? Did you get your homework done?? It was hard wasn't it?" Wren’s sudden berating took Rafael rather by surprise, his shoulders jumping in shock and his eyes flying over to the girl. She stopped herself soon after that, though, and thankfully: Wren’s spit-fire rambling always made him a bit uncomfortable, as her words were a bit hard to understand.
"Um," he started, putting a weak smile on his face, "Hey Wren. I'm fine thanks." He leaned back in his seat, his eyes scanning the room in a bright sort of way. "It was," he added. "Honestly, never have been very fond of homework, but I suppose I can handle charms."

After Rafa made that comment about handling charms, Wren decided to throw in her two-bits.
“Yea, I honestly think that Charms is one of the few classes that I love. I love potions and charms an-” she stopped in the midst of her sentence realizing she was going off again.
Yes, she loved both charms and potions. Yes, they were her favorite subjects but that didn’t mean she should ramble off about them to Rafa, who probably couldn’t care less. He would never show irritation to her, and he was so patient when she was flustered, or (again) when she started off on her word vomit. He was one of the only friends she could count on that wouldn’t judge her. She really hadn’t been around Hogwarts enough to make good friends, and Rafa was pretty much the only confidant she had. She mostly stuck to her books and her bed. Despite coming off as a hard extrovert on the outside, she really was more of introvert. She would have rather, stayed in her dorms than interact with many people, but in order to find those special friends she went and sat in on clubs, and participated in things. You could say she was putting herself out there.
Zoning back in she realized she had zoned out. When she looked up there was a writhing green thing right. In. front. Of. Her. It was not the fact that every student in the class was staring at her but more of the fact that a snake was right in front of her that made her do what happened next.
She passed out.
Apparently, whatever the lesson was today, it had something to do with snakes, and she Hated snakes. They terrified her to no end, because when she had been just six months old, even though she didn’t remember this, her older brother (who was two) was bitten by a rattlesnake and died within hours.
He had been playing outside in the reeds, when being two he hadn’t known that a sign of an approaching rattlesnake was a rattling sound (hence the name) and had stepped on one. After he had stepped on it, the snake had turned around and bitten him in the back of the leg. Being as small as he was, the venom that was injected into his body was more than enough to kill him and he had died. After this particular instance her parents had always told her to stay far away from the devil’s creatures (snakes). (Note that this happened when they lived in Texas)

It was actually quite cute, how Wren tittered about, spreading her cheer through her lovely words and mannerisms. However, her assumptions about his discomfort towards such blatant reactions and ramblings were on-point – the Gryffindor child had never been fond of talkers, that much was very obvious. People invading his bubble in general sent spiders up his very spine, and sweat beads dribbling down his forehead, not even accounting for the tension in is shoulders, and the widening of his usually tranquil eyes. He’d been practically raised on the streets, after all – getting too close to someone could result in a successful mugging, kidnapping, or worse. However, there was something slightly comforting about the girl’s nature… he couldn’t help but want to listen, lean forward in interest with his lip but between his teeth, though her spitfire words be painful to his tired ears.
“Yea, I honestly think that Charms is one of the few classes that I love. I love potions and charms an-”
Her tones sounded into the open air in the most lovely way, but the boy’s attention towards his friend was rather short-lived, as it wasn’t long before their lovely teacher brought in a rather horrid creature – a snake, if he’d ever seen one. A small grimace began to spread on his facial features – he hated snakes, and with a ruddy passion, at that, the creatures being vile, hideous animals, only bringing trouble wherever they traversed. Their ancestors, in the least, could recognize that much – Adam and Eve had been tricked by a snake in the garden. Loki, the Norse god of mischief, had taken the form of a snake during his many cursed exploits. Salazar Slytherin, himself, had associated with snakes, in fact – it wasn’t for any reason that the house representative was a bloody snake. The creatures were ruddy awful, cursed even, as well as hated and despised in the eyes of the young Gryffindor.
THUD.
The noise echoed around the expanses of the room, and for a moment, the boy was left to wonder where the sound had originated from. And then, he had seen it – Wren was sprawled out on the floor, her face pale and eyes closed. She’d passed out. The very sight send a bout of nervous shivers down his spine, his eyes widening as his shoulders grew tense, his own knees weak and shaky beneath him. He found himself utterly frozen for a moment, his mouth gaping as his mind raced to figure out what exactly he was gazing at. Then, his senses promptly returned – he jolted, his knees instinctively hitting the floor as he knelt down beside her, searching her pale features for any signs of life. “Wren? Wren??” he called, his voice slightly shaky as he grasped at her shoulders gently, trying to wake her. Then, looking around, “Does anyone have cold water? Smelling salts?”
