Something about the Charms classroom always smelled sweet. Mars grinned, striding in with their notebook tightly clasped to their chest. They were glad most subjects didn't need more than a notebook, a quill, and a wand. Otherwise, they'd probably need to find a backpack somewhere and they weren't too sure how that'd work out with the robes and all.

The usually light Charms class was covered in a blanket of shadow. How odd. The room still glowed under soft candlelight, but it was dimmed, smothered. Still, it was comforting in here. Almost as if the walls gave off an ambiance that reminded them of home. Maybe it was just the professor. Who knew?

They found their way to a seat, not too far in the back, but not right up in front either. The wooden chair creaked under their weight but held firm. Mars spread their things on the table in front of them; a quill, their notebook, an inkpot, and, of course, their wand.

They liked the thing well enough, sure. Apparently a rare combination, cherry wood and unicorn hair. Kind of fickle too and quick to lose interest. They snickered. It was just like them in some ways. Quite a marriage indeed.

They surveyed the classroom lightly, watching the other wixes trickle through the door. They'd always been one for arriving early, preferring the calm of empty space to settle into a learning headspace. They'd found that most of the time, if they wanted to do anything right, they had to find the right mindset for it.

Charms was fun. It was essentially, instant gratification. To learn a spell and then immediately head into performing it, that always sent a spike of adrenaline through their veins. It didn't have the monotony of History of Magic or the serious undertone of Potions or DADA. It was no doubt, very important, but it also gave plenty of room for harmless pranks and other nonsense.

Mars sighed a little. They'd been able to perform the first couple of spells without much of a hitch, but it was coming to them a little slower than they'd hoped. Oh well. Nothing a bit of practice couldn't fix. They were eager to get the lesson started and hop right into casting.

Before that though, a face popped up in front of them, startling them out of their reverie. Mars looked at the seat next to them, then back up at the witch,

"Do you want to sit here?"

May absolutely loved Charms class. For one, it was easy, and she, again, absolutely loved that. Secondly, the delicious smell of ginger cookies filled the room. She always read the Charms book a day before, and speaking of which, her roommate was tired of her practicing spells every night and day.

So she, the small (May was a little bit too small for her age) eleven year old stepped forward into the classroom. Today, they would work with Ravenclaw's.
She didn't y much people of that house, but she had been dreading in that house. But it seemed like she was sorted into Hufflepuff.

As she entered the classroom, and tried to find a seat (May was very shy, so she didn't want to bother anyone) until she heard someone.
"Oh, umm sure..." May said, timidly. She didn't want to bother the Ravenclaw, with short , pink hair. May looked at her, then blushed slightly. "I-I studied the charm we are going to learn today last month..." May whispered to the girl. "It's Lumos, and Nox. I-I expect you read the syllabus overnight, right?" she asked. Why did she had to be such a nerd?
She blushed slightly at her intelligence, and went back to taking notes.

"Oh, umm sure..."

The witch's voice was quiet as she glanced shyly at Mars and took a seat. Mars leaned over the desk, propping their chin up on their hand as they looked her over. She had yellow robes, pale hair and face, and green eyes. Tiny too. Kind of adorable, especially with the shyness. It seemed fitting that she was a Hufflepuff.

Mars was about to turn back to the front of the class, assuming the girl would be too scared to talk to them when they heard a faint peep.

"I-I studied the charm we are going to learn today last month..." They jerked their head back quickly, eyebrows raised in surprise. A month ago? That seemed like an awful lot of time to be studying ahead.

"It's Lumos, and Nox. I-I expect you read the syllabus overnight, right?" Even after her bold question, she blushed, quickly turning back to her notebook and scribbling down something frantically. Mars smirked at her. No, they hadn't read the syllabus. They rarely did, telling themselves it was for the thrill of going into something empty-handed, pining for the rush of surprise. In all honesty, it was probably laziness. But no matter.

They sat back in their chair, knees braced against the table as they tipped it onto its back legs. A soothing habit they'd picked up long ago, much to the annoyance of their various teachers. They hope the professor wouldn't mind.

Staring at the blackboard to the front of the room, they replied,

"No, I didn't. But thanks, nice to know what I'm getting into."

From where they stood now, it made sense. The class was barely lit, only a few glowing candles here and there, etching themselves into the darkness with their pale glows. The windows were covered as well. Prime space for a Lighting Charm. They shook their head at their own stupidity. Then, they realized they'd forgotten a tiny little thing.

"Oh right," they turned back to the Hufflepuff, "I'm Mars. You are?"
