The last few days had been rough on Ben. Coming from a Muggle home did little for his confidence in magic classes and he had to step down from Prefect because he got caught dating his partner. Not only was he caught, but he was caught by someone he thought was a friend. A friend who dug a knife into Ben's back and seemed ready to twist it too. It was almost too much to bare for the eleven year old who had lived such a simple life up until now. Only good thing going for him was Quidditch, which even then was a bit terrifying due to his lack of experience. He made the team, and would do his best to perform well. Though he was extremely nervous about the first game approaching quickly.

Why did Reid report us? Does he hate me? I hate him.

"Reparo" Ben growled more than yelled as he pointed his wand to a broken pot laying in pieces on the ground.

Rather than pull together magically and reveal a repaired pot, red sparks flew from Ben's wand and they flew further apart, breaking into even more pieces as well. His aggression and lack of form or thought were not helping his spell casting. A frown crossed his face. This room was set aside for practice and he wanted to do well in class. Mending broken items was one of the first things they learned and it should be easy... yet it wasn't. His mind was not where it should be. Once more he tried to empty his mind and focus on repairing the pot that he had just made worse.

"Reparo!" he somehow shouted at it worse this time than before, causing even more destruction.

My mind says Reparo, my wand says Destroyo! I need someone to cast Reparo on me...

It was a rare occurrence when Sabrina had a free day. It was a nice kind of feeling - uplifting. She had finally finished writing for the newspaper, and she was all caught up on her homework, too. Classes weren't on her schedule for the day, so she was left with.. well, nothing. Instead of being in her usual places, like by the fire in the Small Hall, or the Gryffindor Common Room, or even more specifically the tree by the Great Lake that her and her best friend, Reid, made their meeting spot when it was nice outside. Recently though, it had been snowing, and that got on Sabrina's nerves a little bit.

Sure, it was great for throwing snowballs at each other and rolling snow around to make snowmen, but in the end it was cold, and wet, and Sabrina really just wasn't one for cold and wet. While she was walking down the Charms corridor, she heard noises coming from Professor Blackburn's office. Naturally, her mind wandered as to what it could be. Obviously, Professor Blackburn wouldn't trash his classroom like that. Wouldn't he be afraid of hurting his spider? Though, even Sabrina had troubles trying to find Denise in that classroom. And she was afraid of spiders.

As she approached the doorway, she heard someone trying to cast the repairing spell. She furrowed her eyebrows as it just made more noise. What was going on? A few more steps into the classroom, and all of Sabrina's questions were answered. There stood Ravenclaw's prefect - or was he prefect anymore? He seemed to be missing the badge - Ben Eckenrode. The only reason she knew about him, was because of Bloom Silverton. The two were dating to Sabrina's knowledge.

The redhead fumbled for her wand, but once she got it secure in her grip, she aimed it at the pieces of shattered pot. "Reparo," She cited, and sure enough the pot pieces reassembled before landing back down on the ground. Sabrina tucked her wand away again before she spoke. She was often one to lose things easily, and she'd rather keep her wand where she knows it is than potentially lose it in the Charms classroom for Professor Blackburn to step on.

"Hey, you good?" She asked the boy, quirking one of her eyebrows up. Her side bangs had fallen into her face, and she was quick to push the strands of hair back behind her ear.

Ben had been so focused on the broken pieces of pottery that he didn't even notice Sabrina enter the room. His wand was poised to do another attempt before he noticed it repair itself. He glanced up after realizing a girl had cast the spell and fixed it for him. It was a tad embarrassing that someone else saw his failure. Ben had a sense of pride he tried to carry like his father taught him, but it rarely actually worked out. His face was red with a combination of frustration, shame, and awkwardness.

"Not good enough to fix a pot, apparently," he said, his tone a bit rougher than usual. "Repairing just isn't my thing."

I've done this tons of times before though.., Ben thought to himself, not revealing that he was actually decent at it. He had done well in the classes for it and had even practice on his own. The Mending Charm was not supposed to be out of reach for him. Someone his emotional state was driving his failure. Did emotions really affect magic that much? He would have to ask the teachers that at some point. He wondered if that made a difference on some spells.

"Who are you, again? I'm bad with names..." Ben had no idea who this girl was.

The girl rose an eyebrow at him. Obviously, someone wasn't in too good of a mood. She could tell from the angry tone he used to try and cast the mending charm. She pursed her lips slightly, debating between her options. She could lend a listening ear, or she could just leave it alone. For now, she should probably leave it. Otherwise, it could be considered as her not minding her own business. She wasn't a snoop, and there was no way that she planned to be, either. If he needed to rant, she trusted he would just go on with it. He seemed like that kind of person.

"Who are you, again? I'm bad with names..."

Sabrina felt a little silly for not introducing herself beforehand, but regardless she pushed a genuine grin on her face and she took a few steps forward to approach the boy, sticking her hand out. "I'm Sabrina Hurst. And you are?" She asked. She was pretty sure she knew who he was, but hey, she could always be mistaken. She'd been getting better at remembering names though, so she sure hoped not. She took a look around, and rose an eyebrow. "You didn't break anything else in here, did you? I'm sure Professor Blackburn wouldn't be too amused with that." She mentioned, drawing her gaze back to him.

The flush of red in his face slowly faded away as he calmed himself down. Ben ran a hand through his hair and sighed heavily. His other hand slipped his wand back to his pocket where he kept it. Normally this was nothing like him and he was a bit upset for showing this side of himself to someone he had not even met yet. That had to be an awful first impression. He knew he had seen her before. She was the one standing with Reid in the snowball fight maybe? Not that it mattered, Ben had no clue who she was before now anyways. The name rang a couple bells but nothing concrete formed in his mind.

"I'm Ben. Eckenrode if you want my last name too," he idly noted, not sure if full names were necessary.

Ben eyed the fixed pot on the floor near them and then back to the girl. She was certainly Gryffindor in appearance. Red hair, Gryffindor robes, and everything just seemed so... red. It was funny how that seemed to work out a lot. Now that Ben was gathering himself together a bit better he spoke some more.

"Sorry, just... there were items here marked for practice use..," he stuttered a bit at trying to explain himself. "I'm done for now anyways. Thanks again..."

Well that was a shining first impression, Ben.

Honestly, if she knew that Ben and Bloom liked each other, she probably would have thought at least once that he was relatively cute, but that thought didn't even run through her mind once. Instead, replace cute with cool. She only really ever thought that one person was cute, and that was something she still hadn't even admitted to herself at this point. She smiled as he introduced himself, and nodded her head a few times, "Nice to meet you, Ben,"

"Sorry, just... there were items here marked for practice use.. I'm done for now anyways. Thanks again..."

The redheaded girl rose an eyebrow at this. Oh? She looked over to the pot he had broken - it didn't look like there was anything on it labelled 'Practice', and she didn't see anything on the floor either. She wasn't going to say anything about it though, considering there was still a good chance that she could have been wrong about that. Ben could have even pulled off the tag beforehand. "Are you sure that is all?" She asked curiously, looking around the room. It was quite empty, and she could probably take her leave soon if Ben wasn't going to uphold a conversation. She was never able to predict people easily though.
