Charmed To Meet You, Partner
Interacting with @Rose Moon

Her eyes glazed over the text before her. Alina knew that many of these spells had names with origins other than English - mostly Latin, but that really made it all the more difficult. One had to remember the name of the Charm, the type of Charm that it was, the correct incantation/pronunciation, AND the correct wand movements.
Since arriving at Hogwarts, Alina had quickly come to realize that this schooling thing wasn't really for her. Her childminders hadn't prepared her enough or maybe she just wasn't smart enough.
After the lecture, they were split into pairs to go over the Tarantallegra and Reparo charms. Alina was paired up with a Gryffindor named Rose Moon. She had never spoken to the girl, never even really saw her before. Alina had sat near the back of the class and was used to seeing the backs of her classmates heads.
Alina sat there as Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors got up and found a dedicated spot around the classroom in which they could work on practicing the two assignments on a keychain. She waited, not sure if Rose Moon would come to her or if she would have to come to her and her mind started to wander about how peculiar her partner's name was. Two nature sort of names, a flower and a celestial object.

Rose Moon really enjoyed Charms. During the lecture, she sat up in her seat, hanging intently on the professor's every word, taking notes on important things. They had Charms with the Hufflepuffs today and were asked to work in assigned pairs to practice the Charms that the professor had told them about. Rose Moon was apparently assigned to Alina Rosier, who she had never met or heard of. Rose tucked her notes into her book.
Alina had stayed in her seat and was thinking about something, which slightly bothered Rose because they were supposed to be working on the charms together, not spacing out thinking about... Whatever she was thinking about.
Rose just pushed it to the back of her mind, reminding herself that not everyone cared about having good marks like she did and that she had never met this person before. Maybe they were going through something. Shaking her head, she told herself,'Okay, Rose. Let's make a good impression. You can do this.'
Rose went over to the girl that was Alina, saying in her quiet, smooth American accent, "Um, hi. You're Alina, right? Alina Rosier? I'm Rose Moon and I think we're supposed to be working together?"

"Right," Alina said as she moved her notebook for the class closer to her and placed the quill beside it. It would help her with the wand movements and the correct pronunciation of the Charm they were supposed to use.
Alina looked down to her keychain which happened to be that of a rabbit. She was to make it dance anf also fix it...although it didn't appear to be broken. "Crazy things we learn in our first year. I'm not really sure how practical this is..." Reparo, surely. The first one? Not so much. Dancing legs.
Alina looked around quickly though to make sure the Charms professor didn't hear her and it all seemed clear. "Although I could see where those with younger siblings might appreciate it. Ready to go ahead and get started?"
Now that her partner was there, she was ready to get to work. Alina didn't have good marks when it came to her classes but she tried. And now having a partner, she would do what she could just so her partner didn't get knocked down in any of the points. "Mine's a bunny. He's cute. I think I'll name him Peter, like that old classic story," and she held up the keychain for Rose to see. "What does yours look like?"

Alina had seemed focoused for at least ten straight seconds before she asked what keychain Rose had. Rose had not really cared which keychain she got, but she held it up and looked at it. She stiffled a sigh of exasperation and said flatly, "It looks like a cat, I think. Anyway, we should get started." She quickly changed the subject. She wanted to get started and get a good grade for the class and for her homework. If they sat around talking about keychains all day, she doubted that either of those things would happen for either Rose or Alina.
Rose opened her book and looked at the incantation for the dancing feet spell. It was a complicated one. "Tallen.. Tallentgrella? Tarantallegra?" Yes, that was it. Tarantallegra. Rose would have preferred to work alone on a thing like this, but here she was. She wanted to make sure that Alina knew how to do it instead of just copying Rose. Plus, they were supposed to be working together.
So Rose said a little unsurely, "Um, so... I have an idea. Whoever goes first, the other one can watch and make any corrections and then we can switch and do the same for the other person. What do you think? Would you like to go first?"

"I think I better," she smiled, knowing that she wasn't very good at this whole entire school-thing in general and surely Rose could get her off on the right path and hopefully she'd catch on them to actually do Rose some good.
"Alright, so....concentrate, movements, pronunciation," that was some of what one needed to do in Charms class. She didn't do too bad as she moved her wand, only it wasn't very fluid. It was still sort of like slashing a sword through the air and she just wasn't getting the freely flowing movements that one should be getting. Each time she'd say the incantation, "taRON-taLEG-gra," she'd say it correctly but the wand movements were off. She glanced to her partner. "Maybe...you could trail along with another group. I'm not feeling so well and should go tell the professor."
But really, Alina knew how pathetic she was at this and just didn't need to waste Rose's time. She seemed dedicated to her studies and really wanted to do this correctly. Alina didn't like group/partner projects much. She was just going to make a fool of herself here.
"Sorry," she whispered, glancing down to her book. Poor Rose. Out of all the partners she could have gotten.

Rose's heart melted at the sight of Alina. She knew that look in her eyes. She felt useless and that she was just wasting Rose's time. Rose knew that look because she had had that look as well way too many times. Rose glanced at the clock. She was torn. Which was more important: Alina or her marks? When she asked herself that, she knew the answer should be Alina. But the last time she had tried to reassure someone and fix a problem, it had not ended well. Even if she got a bad grade for this class, her overall grade wouldn't suffer that badly. She could risk it. This all went through her mind in a split second of hesitation.
Rose said gently, "Alina, it's okay if you're not that good at Charms. You won't drag me down or anything. I can help you. Plus, if I just left you and joined someone else, I'd never forgive myself. I am totally willing to help you however I can. Now, let's see..." Rose thought for a second and looked at her book and her notes. "The incantation was on point. I think the area you need to work on is the wand movement. Try to relax a little more and be less aggressive. Once you do that, make sure you're concentrating and I think it would be perfect."

Relax a little, be less aggressive. She drew in a deep breath and let it out, relaxing her shoulders some to try the incantation and movements again. It seemed to work, somewhat. Alina then closed her eyes and tried to think of when she felt the most comfortable. She was with a friend and that friend had taken her hand. She opened her green eyes and looked to the bunny, tried the movement again, said the words, and the keychain rabbit began to move about the tabletop. Alina laughed. "Look at that!" She felt rather proud and looked over to Rose, thankful for her help.
"Alright..." she paused a little because she wasn't sure how much help she really could be to Rose, but she would try. "Your turn." As her partner went to begin attempting her task, Alina quickly brushed through her notes and the textbook before her. She wanted to be able to help Rose. "I think you'll do just fine. You seem to have a pretty good handle on this."
She took her keychain in her hand to stop it from dancing and also to clear the working space so that Rose had space to work on the assignment.

Rose jumped up in her seat excitedly, beaming, when Alina did the Dancing Feet Charm perfectly. "That was brilliant!" she exclaimed, smiling from ear to ear. Her emerald eyes were bright with excitement.
When Alina reminded her that it was her turn, Rose's stomach twisted. She had suggested the route of constructive criticism to perfect the Dancing Feet Charm, but she was regretting it a little. She really didn't want to make fun of herself in front of all of the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs. At Alina's reassuring remark that she would have no trouble with the charm, Rose smiled, checked her notes one last time, and stood up, facing the keychain. It seemed to be snarling at her, saying she would never do this charm right. She resisted the urge to snarl back at it. Drawing in a deep breath, she pointed her wand at the keychain. She focused completely on doing the wand movement correctly and saying the word correctly. Waving her wand in the movent that was instructed fluidly and carefully, Rose said, "Tarantallegra!" The only way that the cat seemed to change was it's snarl deepened. Rose forced herself to relax and instead of focusing on doing it correctly, she focused her mind on what she wanted to happen. She did the wand movement again and said, "Tarantallegra!" The cat did a little tap dance. Smiling with relief, Rose turned to Alina and said, "Do you have any advice for me? I was very tense the first time around, so I guess relaxing is something you reminded me of just now when you did it... But other than that is there anything that comes to mind?"

"Well," she felt that Rose was the sort of girl that really wanted to get this right and do well. Alina wanted to learn, but she really didn't care about her grades - only so much that her father didn't murder her upon going back home that summer.
"Well," she said again, "I think you've got it down, really. I just think we need to work on what the professor said about the wand becoming an extension of ourselves. Be more graceful, fluid...that sort of thing. I have a couple friends here who are into dancing and I bet they're good at it. There's even a dance club and I know it sounds silly but I could see how that would help with one's wizarding skills now that I think about it..."
That sort of thing wasn't for her though. She just wasn't a dancer. She could dance, and she certainly had at her little Secret Secret Blossom Ball, but that wasn't the same as being a ballerina.
"Actually, I think the biggest thing that Rose Moon needs to work on," she was going to be rather blunt here, "is just her confidence." But she gave an encouraging smile to the girl because Rose had this.

OOC: Should we end the role-play here or do you think they should have extra time and just talk and get to know each other?Rose listened intently as Alina gave her advice. She nodded at her remark the the wand needed to be an extension if her body. Alina was right. At Alina's comment that maybe they could join the dance club to pick up some stuff, Rose hesitated.
"Maybe. Dancing isn't really my thing..."Rose admitted. Unless there were a while lot more people doing it with her, Rose did not like preforming at all. She had obsessive stage fright and was always afraid she would mess up. She didn't know why, since she was quite good at most things she tried, but, she much rather preferred to try new things by herself with nobody watching. She knew nobody would judge her, but she couldn't push away that feeling that they would. Maybe that was just part of her independence. When Alina added that the thing she needed to work on most was her confidence, Rose smiled and ducked her head. Alina was giving her a reassuring smile.
"Thank you," Rose said sincerely. "It was really fun to work with you. Some people just want to sit and be lazy while I do all of the work and some people don't trust me to do any of the work we were assigned. I'm glad to have you as my partner." And she meant it. She had had some bad experiences with partners, but today was not one of those.
