A small bag of seeds and breadcrumbs hung from Amanda’s hand as she walked over to the area on the grounds reserved for the Care of Magical Creatures class. Only third years and older students could take the class, but that didn’t stop Amanda from occasionally exploring that area. She didn’t dare go near most of the magical creatures without permission, but she was a part of the R.O.A.M. club that Professor Griffith had organized so she wasn’t too concerned with snooping around the stables and such.
Amanda sat down in the grass and opened the bag. She had collected various breadcrumbs and seeds over the past few weeks to feed to the birds. She grabbed a handful from the bag and tossed it onto the ground, watching as a few small sparrows flew near her and began to peck at the morsels. Amanda smiled to herself and sat quietly, observing the birds. Despite their plain appearance, Amanda had always liked sparrows, probably partially because they shared her last name. Amanda’s father liked to call her Birdie, in accordance with the family name. Amanda was fond of the nickname, but wouldn’t let anybody else call her that. It was her father’s nickname for her, and his only. She tossed out some more crumbs for the birds, lost in thought.

Alan was sitting on his small hill like usually, gazing towards the stables as he wondered what he should do in the afternoon. Maybe he could bring his homework out here and do them here? He just had to hope it would not start raining or snowing, even though it slowly was too late into the spring time to snow. But who could truly tell in this ever cold country? He noticed a young girl heading towards the stables and wondered if she was heading to Professor Griffith's front door like he witnessed so many students do. But no she would stop near the paddock that was build secure enough to avoid all curious stares. He wondered if it was to only keep the students away or to also keep the creatures calm? If they were in plain view students would probably gather around them and some might even be naive to try to reach out to them, this would most likely disturb them. They were there to live and not as some kind of pet zoo. Of course Alan sometimes wished he could see the creatures hiding inside the stables, but he also understood why that was not something that would happen. He would have to be patient, learn in R.O.A.M lessons and wait a couple of months more until he could finally be taught the class he looked forward to.
After stretching his tired arms, he pushed himself up from the ground and lazily jogged over to the girl, slowing down in a safe distance as soon as he noticed the gathered sparrows that picked away on what seemed like bred crumbs that the girl was spreading by gently throwing it on the ground for the small animals. With silent steps he would get closer to get a look at the small animals, with a gentle smile, before he raised his gaze to the girl.
”Hey...”, he said nervously.

Amanda’s attention was diverted as a chestnut-haired boy approached her with a greeting. She smiled at him warmly. “Hello. You can join me if you'd like.” She patted the ground next to where she was seated. “I’m Amanda, Amanda Sparrow,” she introduced herself, before turning back to the birds. She tossed a handful more of crumbs on the ground, gazing blankly ahead as the birds gathered to eat their share. She was feeling particularly relaxed this afternoon and had zoned out unknowingly. Her mind wandered aimlessly, causing Amanda to completely forget about the boy standing next to her.
After a few brief moments, Amanda snapped out of it, looking up at the boy apologetically. “Oops, sorry. I didn’t mean to space out like that.” She looked him over with curiosity. “You hang out here a lot? I don’t personally. The professor’s a little too intimidating in my opinion.” She began to lay out a crumb trail leading towards herself, curious as to how close the birds would get. She figured that they wouldn’t approach her, even with the temptation of food. But Amanda was a firm believer in the saying “You never know until you try,” so she continued to set up the trail.

The corner of his mouth quirked up into a happy smile, that showed a little of his teeth, before he nodded. She seemed nice, directly inviting her to join him made him happy and washed away the nervousness that was his constant companion. "Nice to meet you, Amanda! I really like your surname! My name is Alan, Alan Vanes..", he mumbled, his hands fidgeting slightly befoe he let his gaze drift towards the birds. The small sparrows in an instant calmed him, just looking at nature had this effect on the young Gryffindor. His parents often teased him, that maybe he was an elf and was switched at birth. The first time they told him, he got really scared, but then they showed him his ears in a mirror that were rounded nicely and missing the pointy end.
"You mean Mo- Griffith? He is okay, kinda nice. He once protected me from bullies, I am sure he plays it down but he coul' have just ignored it. But he went aqnd stopped them!", he explained, smiling nervously. "But yeah, the hill I came from is where I usually spend my free-time. There and at the Lake, I just love the outside! But feeding animals isn't too smart if they run around here, you know...", he nodded with a small chuckle.
