Private RPG with Anastasia Beckett

The first potions class had gone better than Dot had expected it to. Despite the freezing temperature calling her to curl up and sleep, Dot stayed awake through the whole lesson, and took brilliant notes as well, along with answering a few of Professor's questions and getting herself some positive attention.
Gathering up her fancy long-tailed widowbird's quill and regular parchments as well, she stuffed her textbook and notes in her plain book bag, zipping it close before grabbing her Muggle fountain ink pen from the classroom desk she used.
Despite the fanciness of her new quill, she rarely ever used it. Being brought up in the Muggles world in the twenty first century, she always used electronic typing devices, handling pens for only school. So imagine her surprise when she was told that she's supposed to use quill to write instead of an electric typer, not even a pen. To help her try, her adoptive father had given her this fancy quill as a present.
If he was really hoping that Dot would adapt to writing with that, he's going to be very disappointed.
She earned a few curious glares at the pen - a thing with a tube in it where one can fill ink and use without dipping it in ink bottle again and again - as she made her way out of the dungeon, saying a polite 'good-bye' to the professor.
The crowd of first-years was thick right outside the classroom, loads of small heads shivering with cold and complaining about the lesson. Dissolving into them, Dot didn't even notice that the pen had slipped out of her grasp and fell somewhere before she was down the corridor.
Gasping, as it was her only pen (her father didn't allow taking more), she called out in a rather loud, surprised voice, "My pen!" before flipping around to go back and search between the sea of students while praying no one stole it, but she stopped right there, thinking whether it was an okay idea to go back and find her belonging with so many students crowding the hallway.

Anastasia had had a question about one of the potions that the professor had covered in class, so she had stayed behind to ask about it. It was partially because she really wanted to know the answer to her question, and partially because she really liked the teacher and was hoping to make a good impression. Something she had picked up pretty quickly was that teachers really did like students who asked questions. Not stupid questions just to waste the teacher's time, but questions that exhibited an interest in the subject. She asked her question and got even more of an answer than she had hoped for, and then realized that she was going to be late to her next class if she didn't pick up her pace.

She quickly thanked her teacher and began to head to her next class, but as she reached the doorway, she found a bizarre item. It rather reminded her of a quill, but there wasn't any feather or anything. She stuck the object in her pocket and began to hurry to her next class before nearly slamming into another student. She managed to stop herself from squealing or making any noises that would embarrass her. She was about to move past when she realized it was Dot from a few nights ago. "Fancy running into you here!" Anastasia said, inwardly groaning at her stupid joke.

Dot chewed on her lower lip and cursed to herself a several times, under her breath so that any passing students will not notice. That blue-colored love was her favorite pen, of her favorite color, from her favorite book shop. She had fallen in love with it as soon as she set her eyes on it, and begged her father to get it to her. It was mainly blue, with brown-colored bronze colored wavy pattern etched in it. It was simply too easy to refill, and worked as smoothly as...well, it worked very smoothly.
A sob curled in Dot's throat as she searched the hallway, but in vain. She asked a few passing people if they had seen a 'strange quill with no feathers', as she thought will be a good explanation for her pen, but all they gave her back was weird looks. Oh, well.
Finally, after about thirteen minutes, she gave up. If she'd keep looking, she'll miss the next class, which will not be fun. Sighing, she hung her head low as she started to make the small journey to the History of Magic classroom.
But hanging her head low didn't prove to be a good idea, since she almost bumped into another student. A small, barely audible squeak was released from her mouth as she came to a sudden halt, about to apologize. But then she noticed the student's pretty features - beautiful, shiny dirty blonde hair and a tall figure. Her eyes didn't need to go to her robe to know that a Gryffindor crest was etched in the cloth.
It was her, once again, who spoke up first.
"Fancy running into you here!"
Dot's small lips quickly curled in a smile as her charcoal eyes lit up. Recalling her name, she said, "Anastasia, right?" She smiled brighter. "Nice seeing you, too. You were in Potions as well, yeah? Didn't see you there..."
Wait, Dot thought. If Anastasia was in Potions, which she must was since she's wandering in dungeons, she could've seen my pen! Quickly, Dot added in, "Um, have you seen my pen? You might not know what that is but...a blue colored thing, used for writing? Strange for you, as well?"
Dot was really happy to see Anastasia again after so many (a few only?) days, but she was far more worried for her only, favorite pen to greet her properly - but she did hope Anastasia won't find it rude, though.

Nice seeing you, too. You were in Potions as well, yeah? Didn't see you there...
"Huh," Anastasia said looking amused. She would have thought she was rather hard to miss, due to her hand shooting up at nearly every question, but she supposed Dot was paying attention to the teacher rather than her classmates. Come to think of it, she hadn't seen Dot in class either. It was so obvious, since the first years of each house typically had their classes all together. She wondered exactly how practical that was. If they weren't trying to encourage in house rivalries, then why did they make it so bloody hard to meet other first years who weren't in the same house? Food for thought...
Um, have you seen my pen? You might not know what that is but...a blue colored thing, used for writing? Strange for you, as well?
"Ah, I found something blue and odd looking, although I can't guarantee it's your pen," Anastasia told the other girl, reaching into her bag's pocket and pulling out the bizarre featherless quill she had found on the floor. "This it?" She honestly wondered why anyone would want that strange looking thing as opposed to a nice quill. She supposed she had rather lavish quills, peacock feathers and the like, but still. To each their own. "You have History of Magic next as well?" She figured if they were going to the same place, they might as well go together. Anastasia absolutely detested arriving places alone, even if it was only her first week at the school.

"Ah, I found something blue and odd looking, although I can't guarantee it's your pen,"
Dot felt extremely jumpy as she waited for Anastasia to produce the 'blue and odd looking' thing from her robes' pocket while she silently to prayed to Allah that the thing Anastasia found was her pen, not someone else's Muggle thing.
And her prayers were answered, it seemed, since Anastasia did take out her blue pen. She barely heard Anastasia asking if it was her pen as she reached for it gingerly and hugged it to her chest, relieved at finding her pen. Only a second later she thought that she looked rather stupid and childish, so Dot quickly put her pen in her book-bag as a gentle blush crept up to her cheeks.
"You have History of Magic next as well?"
At this, Dot quirked her eyebrows. "You have it, too, you mean?" As she said, she gently gestured forwards, universal sign of 'let's get moving' and began walking herself. It'd be good to walk with Anastasia to her next class, since she couldn't find her not-so-close-new-friend, Shawn Darlington, neither any of other students she'd met.
Back at her Muggle school, Dot had always been interested in history. While the other students snored with the cover of the textbooks, she wrote notes furiously at her notebook as she tried to keep up with the teacher. But about magical history, she didn't know if she'll like or not. By all she's read and prestudied yet, in the textbook, seems boring (just like her Muggle history textbook), but she was really looking forward to the lectures, because lectures are always interesting, no matter what the subject is.

"You have it, too, you mean?"
"That was implied by the as well," Anastasia said, smiling a bit as she began to walk next to Dot. Coming from someone else, that might have sounded rather terse of her, but Anastasia had a way of saying things that made her sarcasm come across as mostly polite. She was a quite sarcastic person by nature, and when she was younger, her mother had been quite irritated at how rude she sounded. She had managed to control her tongue a bit better since she'd been at Hogwarts, in an effort to not make too many enemies right away. She hoped Dot wouldn't think she was being rude or anything, although the only person she talked to like that was Aravis who she'd known for ages.

"What is that thing, by the way?" she asked as they walked. "It seems rather important to you." She wasn't all that excited about History of Magic. She thought Wizarding history was quite interesting and rather humorous at times, but she had grown up learning about it, so she wasn't particularly thrilled about it. She supposed it would be an alright class, but certainly not a favorite. As they neared the History of Magic classroom, she saw her cousin Lydia and nodded in her general direction, really not wanting to engage with her Purist cousin right now.

"That was implied by the as well,"
Dot eyebrows raised slightly as a hint of hurt appeared in her eyes, which Dot managed to hide by looking at her feet as they walked. Anastasia had not meant to hurt her, but her comment sounded rather rude to Dot. Not like the way Austraige, her loving nurse from the Silk, taught her. Jane always taught Dot to be polite, to care of others' feelings before speaking. Yes, she is not prim and proper and beautiful and charming like Anastasia, but at least she thinks before she speaks.
So Dot didn't reply to Anastasia, just kept walking, her vision still focused on her polished uniform shoes.
"What is that thing, by the way?"
Dot looked up at Anastasia, any hurt now gone from her eyes. She figured that Anastasia was talking about the pen, now safely tucked inside her bookbag, which was zipped lock. Shrugging a shoulder, Dot said, "A pen. It's a Muggle writing tool, you see. Way easier to use than a prehistoric quill." Dot put pressure on the word prehistoric - not meaning to annoy Anastasia, but just showing her disdain for their old ways and methods. Using parchment? Quills? Are you serious? This is twenty-first century, wizards. Wake up. "It has a tube fitted inside it, which pulls in an amount of ink inside, so no dipping as you write. Plus, it's easier to handle and hold as you write, and it can be capped. Moreover, it's way more smooth to write with. Quills are kinda...scratchy." Dot finished her list of pen's advantages by adding a soft quill insult at the end.
"It seems rather important to you."
Dot nodded and fixed her stare back at her shoes. "It is important. My baba - my father gave it to me as a present, before I came here." She said, but then remembered how Dot had told Anastasia about her being an orphan, and quickly added in, "My adoptive father, I mean."

Anastasia could sense that her comment had offended Dot and inwardly scolded herself. Dot didn't know her very well yet, so she couldn't know that Anastasia was mostly just joking. She bit her lip as she thought about how that was exactly what her mother would have said in this situation. Her mother was perfectly sweet and respectful to high class Purebloods that she knew, but she was rather rude to anyone else. Anastasia was generally quite nice to people, but she had a rather dry sense of humor that often came across as a bit rude and cold. She really didn't want Dot to think that about her. She really quite liked her so far, and she would hate to drive away a possible friend.

A pen. It's a Muggle writing tool, you see. Way easier to use than a prehistoric quill
Anastasia arched an eyebrow at Dot's use of the word prehistoric. Quills weren't prehistoric, they were timeless. Maybe she didn't have any basis for comparison, but she liked her quills just fine. Maybe quills of lesser quality were not as good as a pen, but Anastasia's were certainly better. She didn't take much personal offense at it, she just really loved her quills. And, as much as she refused to admit it, a pen sounded rather interesting and a bit more practical to use.

Glancing back over her shoulder, she saw Lydia with a quizzical look on her face. Bollocks, she must have overheard Dot talking about pens. She groaned inwardly and hoped that Lydia would leave them alone.
My baba - my father gave it to me as a present, before I came here.
"Ah," Anastasia said, as though she understood. She really didn't. Her parents made a huge fuss over her having the very best of everything, and while she took good enough care of her things, she didn't value them half as much.

Anastasia didn't show much interest on the topic of quills and pens, so Dot didn't offer her more information on pens. There were different types of pen, including ballpoint pens, mechanical pencils, fudepens, technical pens, marker pens, fountain pens...some of which were better than hers, and more expensive as well. Although Dot's own pen was rather expensive, and of good quality, there were pens that came more expensive. So instead of sharing all this information, Dot kept walking in the awkward silence.
Dot noticed Anastasia looking over her shoulder, with a hint of nervousness perhaps, and followed her suit. She didn't see anyone special in particular, just a few students. Dot shrugged and continued her walk. They were going in a smaller, more deserted corridor now, which took to the History of Magic classroom. The corridor gave her a small shiver, but unless the uncomfortable vibes it was giving, she was okay. Shrugging the feeling off, Dot told Anastasia about the present.
An ah was all she said in reply.
At that, Dot made a face. For some reason, Anastasia wasn't acting the way she was before. Warmly, nicely, friendly. Now she was talking rudely and with a hint of coldness to her words. A little bit more frustrated than she'd like to admit, she said, "You know, Anastasia, you're not - " but then stopped herself. It was probably not too good to talk like that - what if she'd offend her? "Um, nothing - sorry." She said and looked away, at the spooky shadows the empty corridor was showing of statues and gargoyles.

OOC -
So, have you made a character/NPC page for Lydia? If so, can you give me the link? I'd like to open it in a new tab and use it for stuff like appearance. May even make our RPG more accurate.

The more that she thought about it, the more she didn't understand valuing a gift from her parents that much. Maybe it was because her parents' gifts came with rules and expectations about everything in her life from what she was allowed to wear to who she was allowed to be friends with. Yes, she had a fairly charmed life, but in the time she'd been at Hogwarts, she'd had more freedom and made more friends than she had practically her entire life before that point. Another thing that she had realized with a bit of shock and horror was that she hardly missed her parents. She'd expected to spend most of her time with her cousins, but she hadn't so much as seen them since the train ride. Until Lydia just now that was. She really hoped Lydia won't be as nosy as she normally was, but knew it was probably in vain.

She glanced over at Dot, and felt bad. She really did like Dot, and her anxiety about her family was making her seem quite rude and disinterested in her.  She could tell Dot thought so too, based on the face she made and her next words.
You know, Anastasia, you're not -  Um, nothing - sorry.
"I'm not what?" Anastasia asked her as they turned the corner. She really did feel terrible for not being more polite to Dot, but she was a bit preoccupied. Rightfully so, because she glanced over her shoulder again and saw Lydia turning the corner after them. History of Magic was the only thing in this hallway, and Lydia was a sixth year, so she had no reason to be here. "Anastasia, are you really associating with some clueless little Mu-, pardon, someone who utterly disregards everything in the wizarding world?" Lydia said as she approached the two. Anastasia got her quick correction when she had nearly said a phrase that was quite frowned upon at Hogwarts. Back home, it was used rather frequently, but here, it was horribly offensive. She only hoped Dot hadn't noticed, since she was probably already hurt at Anastasia's behavior.

OOC Note -  I do not. I mention her in Anastasia's bio page, but nothing beyond that. She's a sixteen year old Slytherin who is quite nasty. She's tall with long dark hair similar to Anastasia's. She sounds even more snotty than Anastasia does at her worst.
