Don't FlaminGO Away!
Private Roleplay between Anastasia Beckett and @Dale Kurt
Location: Transfiguration Classroom
Date: 8 April 2020
Time: 10:00 a.m.Or whenever the second years might have transfig, I can totally change this
Transfiguration was quite possibly the love of one Anastaisa Beckett's life. Alright, no, coffee was the love of her life. Transfiguration was a very close second though. The world was insane and complicated and stupidly confusing. Transfiguration wasn't. Sure, it was a complex and difficult branch of magic, but it had a simplicity to it that Ana loved. You had either done the spell correctly or not. Sure, there was some wiggle room, but it was all fairly straight forward. So much of the rest of life was blurred lines and moral ambiguity and all that nonsense.
She entered the room and was assaulted by squawks. Oddly enough, the first thing she noticed wasn't the insane amount of birds, it was the fact that the professor was perched on the desk rather like a bird herself. Ana arched an eyebrow and turned her attention to the birds. There were all different types, but they all had one thing in common - their color, or really, lack thereof. It was like a black and white muggle photo had been taken of some aviary or something. That gave Ana some idea of what they might be doing that class period.
As it was still a few minutes before the start of class, she scanned the room and brightened visibly when she saw Dale. Walking over to the Slytherin, she smiled. "Lovely to see you, as always," she said, her eyes sparkling mischievously. The boy had caught her falling from a tree a few days before, so she really ought not to tease him so. Did that mean she wouldn't? Of course not...

@Anastasia BeckettDale hated transfiguration, it was the very bane of his existence. But the reason he hated it wasn't because of what it was, Dale actually thought the spells and the idea of the class was interesting, the reason he hated it is that he was just no good at it. He always messed up the spells, and the few times he tried to practice outside of class had basically failed, Dale had to come to terms with the fact that he would never be good at the class. But he still gave the class his all, that meant he at least gave an effort not to fall asleep mid-lecture.
"Well at least falling asleep won't be an issue today..." Dale thought as he looked around at all the loud birds squawking around him, he had an idea of what they were going to be doing today and was not looking forward to it at all.
"Lovely to see you, as always,"
Dale smiled as he heard a very familiar and almost mischievous voice of Anastasia Beckett. He was pretty sure the girl was a little crazy at this point, from her stunt in the grounds, but he thought it was a good kind of crazy, like an endearing type of crazy... "Lovely to see you too" Dale motioned to the seat next to him, "Say, would her grace like to join me?" Dale hoped that Ana could help him out with today's lesson... he had a hunch it would be a bit difficult.

@Dale KurtAna grinned slightly at her friend's remark. Dale was certainly less loud and certainly less dramatic than most of her other friends, but she was somewhat fond of his more understated manner. He also seemed utterly unfazed at some of her more impulsive behaviors like leaping/falling out of trees. Generally, she was relatively levelheaded. Alright, no, that was completely untrue. She made pretty decent decisions most of the time though. Her problem was one bad choice always seemed to snowball and lead to fifteen others. From what she could tell, Dale was rather the opposite. His mild and calm nature somehow combined nicely with her fiery and impulsive ways.
"Yes, I suppose I shall honor you with my presence," she said with a grin and a quick wink. "What do you suppose we're doing today?" She had a decent idea, but she was curious to see if Dale thought the same way she did. That was a foolish question, seeing as Dale clearly didn't think the way she did, which was why they got along. Biting her lip, she glanced at the clock again. They still had a bit before class started and she intended to use it well. Sighing slightly, she glanced back at the Slytherin beside her.
Since this is April 8, the ball hasn't happened yet cause I didn't know all what was going on there when I started this. Also, sorry I took so long to reply!

@Anastasia BeckettDale was glad Ana had chosen to sit with him, the two of them had bonded quite a bit in the short times they had been friends, and he was definitely enjoying their time together, she had some unique stories, and had an even more unique thought process, spending time with her almost always guaranteed that something interesting was going to happen, he just hoped it would never get too dangerous..
Dale looked around the class, before looking at her again, "I don't know, but something with birds I guess?" Dale said with a confused look on his face, "If I had to guess.. something about turning birds into something, or turning into a bird.. I kind of hope its not the last one." Dale said half-jokingly, half-serious. Turning himself into animals never sat well with him, and this time it wasn't only because he was bad at it, but just the idea of turning into a cat or bird just didn't sit well with him, maybe it was his muggle mindset.. "Whatever it is.. I might need some help from you, Transfig is my worst class." Dale said as he stretched his arms, "God I'm tired." he thought to himself

@Dale Kurt"That's what I'm thinking. Avifors, probably," Ana replied brightly. She loved Transfiguration. It was difficult, to be sure, but there was a simplicity and logic to it that just fascinated Ana. She laughed at little at Dale's aversion to being turned into a bird. "Oh, being turned into birds would be pretty interesting as well. I've always wanted to fly like one, and I think I'd make a lovely bird, don't you?"
She couldn't help but wink at him on those last words before digging through her book bag to get out her class things. That poor boy. He was probably her only friend who could actually be considered "nice", and she was constantly teasing him. Still, he was a pretty good sport about it, and it didn't appear to bother him too badly. "And you know I'm always ready to help you," Ana replied to him talking about how Trasfig was his worst subject. If he was paying close attention, he might notice that her tone was unusually genuine. She really did enjoy his company, and he was probably one of the few friends her parents would even remotely tolerate. Temperament wise, anyway. He was rather like hot chocolate while Ana was like scalding hot coffee.

@Anastasia Beckett"Avifors? what? Is that like a spell?" Dale said with a confused expression, one he found himself wearing a lot in this class, he probably looked and sounded like an idiot, but he didn't really mind, he was bad transfig, and had no issue sounding like an idiot in front of his friends. Dale smiled as his friend teased him, "I mean... yeah, you do kind of remind me of a uh.." Dale tried to think of a bird, he couldn't name many birds by name, and if he was being honest, he was really bad at metaphors and comparing things, after a solid 5 seconds of thinking he finally thought of something, "a uhh flamingo." Dale said as he sat up, head still resting on the palm of his hand. "Im scared of heights, so no flying for me... also if you wanted to fly can't you just ride a broom?" Dale asked.
Dale was happy he got to spend some time with his friends, he hasn't gotten to see much of Santario or Lark in the last few weeks, and the members of hhawt were still getting used to both each other and the sudden change in management, all this to say that he had started to feel a little lonely, but he tried to get rid of the feeling with books and homework, "Thanks Ana, I knew I could count on you." Dale said with a genuine smile.

@Dale KurtAna nodded at Dale's question. She took for granted the fact that she had heard of or at least read about most of the spells they learned in school, having grown up in the magical world. She often forgot that so many of her classmates didn't have the same background. "Turns small inanimate objects into birds," she said casually as though that was something perfectly normal like making a cup of coffee.
The Gryffindor laughed lightly at her friend's comparison. She had always thought she was more of an eagle or a peacock than a flamingo. Maybe not a peacock, since only the males had the gorgeous plummage she so liked. She supposed a flamingo made sense too since the birds were rather tall and pink and vivacious. "I mean, yes, I could fly on a broom, but also, consider, having wings, Dale," she said pleasantly. Flying was just the best. Brooms were lovely and all, but having wings had to be like having a built-in broom or better.
"You know, if we are learning Avifors, I could try and make a flamingo. A small one, but still," Ana said, her thoughts going back to her friend's earlier words. Her family had flamingos in their aviary, so she felt that she knew the bird well enough to at least give it a shot.

@Anastasia BeckettDale picked up his pencil and started to spin it in his hand, he wasn't very good at it, going very slowly and sometimes dropping it. He thought the idea of turning things into birds was pretty funny, he imagined the pencil in his hands spreading winds and growing a beak, "How is that useful spell?" Dale wondered out loud, he couldn't think of a single situation where he needed to turn something into a bird.
"Alright, ill consider it.", Dale said as he stopped spinning the pencil for a second, flying through the sky with only two wings supporting him and at any moment the wings could disappear and he would plummet to his death. He started spinning the pencil again, "No, I definitely do not want to fall to my death." Dale said flatly. Flying was the worst, and Dale would do whatever he could to avoid it, even when he practiced flying at the pitch, he was only 15-20 ft above the ground, and even that made his stomach twist in fear.
Dale thought for a second, he didn't really know any birds all that well, "For the spell to work, do you need to like, know the bird really well?" Dale asked, "Cause if that's the case, then I'm screwed." Dale said with a chuckle.

@Dale Kurt
Ana arched an eyebrow at Dale's questioning the spell's usefulness. Sure, there weren't many situations where someone needed to turn something into a bird, but there were plenty in which being able to turn something into a bird would be incredibly cool for dramatic effect. "Not sure if you noticed, love, but they don't actually teach us very many spells that are actually that useful," Ana laughed. She laughed again at Dale's commentary about being a bird. He was wrong, but it was still pretty funny. She made a mental note to enquire about turning oneself into a bird after class. She didn't want to bet on her animagus form being a bird since she wasn't a bird-like person in her opinion.
"You need to know the bird fairly well to be able to visualize the transformation happening on such a cellular level," she said, sounding as though she was parroting one of Professor Lian's lectures from their first year. "It can't be too hard though since I don't imagine most people know bird terribly well."
With that, the class began and Ana turned her attention away from her lovely companion and towards the lesson at hand. As much as she liked Transfiguration, she rather resented it for interrupting her conversation with Dale. She could have to talk to him more later.
