A Historical debut PV Anatole Evans, Dorian Gray

Private to Dorian Gray and Anatole Evans

The classroom was finally quiet. Professor Cazarez has been done with his lesson and had long left the small location on the first floor, but still, a few students had decided to stay in the classroom. Emyl was sitting in the back with two of his best friends, Tyler and Gregory. History was one of his favorite subjects and somehow, the young boy had managed to make his friends stay with him to study it. Since he was Muggle-born, Emyl Morrel did not have much knowledge yet of the magical world, but at least, he was trying to learn.

The young boy was moving both of his hands around while explaining a small adventure he had once when he traveled with his father. The thing he loved with Tyler and Gregory was that they were both Muggle-born and understood completely his story. They were really good friends and he adored spending time with them here. Even more, as both had complicate situations with their family about being wizards, which was a similar situation to what Emyl was living through. He could relate to them.

While narrating his story, Emyl had seen from his peripheral vision two boys sitting close to them. Emyl paused and took some time to stare at them. He was not sure what they were still doing in the classroom, twenty minutes after the end of the lessons, but it was making him curious. However, he decided to continue his conversation with his two friends and returned his eyes to them while biting his lips. A harsh, habit with him, he often did when something was bothering him. It was clear he would like to engage in conversation with those two mysterious boys, but he was not sure how. They seemed busy enough, and he himself was spending the time to ''study'' with his own comrades. That thought made him grin a little, they were allowed to stay in the classroom for the sole condition of practicing history. As of right now, they were only reciting adventure of their own. At least, if something was to happen, he could pretend they were still doing history. After all, their conversation was somehow related to the subject.

CLOCK.

It was time. Tyler and Gregory greeted him before leaving the classroom. Slowly waving to them and smiling, Emyl returned to his book. He wanted to make it up for his condition. If he could even call it that. he did not have enough knowledge and wanted to fit in his group. He wanted to make this right. Therefore, something was still bothering him. They were still there. His eyes wandered a few times in their direction. He was wondering, thinking. Should he walk over there and speak to them? Would they find him strange? To be honest, the boy could care less about those questions. He wanted to make friends. Emyl Morrel brusquely got up, almost knocking his chair away in the process. His cheeks were a little red once he reaches both of them. Hello you two! I've seen you both since earlier and you got me curious! What are you guys doing here after the lesson? He felt a little stupid to ask there, it was obvious that they might be doing something related to the subject of this class, but maybe not. Emyl decided to take one of the chairs in the front line of desks and sat down in front of them while wondering about their reaction. At least, he could say it was a historical debut.

Class had ended for the day, Professor Cazarez was nowhere to be seen, the students had filed out of the classroom or were currently in the process of doing so, and Dorian was feeling rather mischievous. In essence, all was going well. He had plans. Big plans. Ones that needed a second or a third to accomplish or they might end in failure. Scanning the exodus quickly, he noted that there was no one he could drag into his hairbrained scheme that would act as a competent partner; or as a scapegoat if something went wrong. Then he heard the chair to his direct left scrape across the floor and turned to notice a familiar face. Anatole Evans.

Dorian remembered the boy from the dormitory, and with that memory came the one of him enlisting said boy to be one of his minions. A minion kind of had to do what the boss says right? That was how it worked after all. There was no say on the matter. Besides, Anatole was the perfect kind of timid to talk into doing something as stupid as what he had planned. A little verbal force was all that would be necessary. Dorian purposefully turned in his seat, facing the boy's side. He secretly placed his left leg to the foot of the chair that was being pushed back, doing this in such a way that the chair would start to tilt from the backward momentum and Anatole's push. He would fall, but not before Dorian, the knight in shining armor that he is, quickly reached out and grabbed hold of the boy's robes and the chair.

"Whoa there! You really should be more careful. Wouldn't wanna fall and break something." He'd give the other boy a few seconds to gather his thoughts, at which point he'd interject with, "I have a proposition for you Anatole, and I think you're gonna like it." Dorian took a routine scan of the classroom, frowning when he noticed that there were three boys besides himself and Anatole still in the classroom, engaged in conversation. For the time being this wouldn't be a problem, and they were sure to leave soon anyway. Turning back to Anatole, Dorian pulled...something out of his robes. If Anatole looked closely enough, he would see that they appeared to be none other than fireworks of varying sizes.

Dorian was eyeing the boy with a wild grin. "Snatched these from the Gryffindor House Cup Party when no one was looking. This is gonna be so much fun!" He leaned in closer to enlighten Anatole as to his plan, then suddenly from behind he heard a voice. Dorian knew enough of these situations to act natural and play it cool, but the situation had already moved beyond such a thing seeing as he had let his guard down. The boy would have already seen the fireworks on clear display between himself and Anatole, and that would most likely tell all that needed to be told about what they were doing there after the lesson. Well, it was too late for the poor blonde boy to back out now.

"I didn't catch your name..." Dorian would give him the chance to say it. "Dorian Gray, and this little guy here is Anatole Evans. We're planning to have a little fun with these fireworks" he proclaimed proudly, and then his grin became all-encompassing as he rounded on the blonde. "And you're now an accomplice." The only question left to them was whether they would be loosing the things here in History Class or following Dorian's prior plans to set them off in one of the greenhouses run by his least favorite professor. He had nothing against Professor Cazarez; actually thought the man was quite alright, but he wanted to see something blow up and at this point it didn't matter what.

A Historical debut PV Anatole Evans, Dorian Gray

Something didn’t sit right with Anatole. It was a strange nagging feeling since he heard the Professor leave the room once the class had come to a sudden conclusion. Like all History of Magic to the young, tan, shaggy-haired Gryffindor, it was rather bland. Another predicament solved by casting a spell or two, another over exaggerated battle, or what about this time, an all-too lengthy explanation of some Hogwarts history Anatole would rather sleep upon?

Precisely. It was the struggles like such that kept him from focusing and jotting down notes. Much of his work had been fabricated on painstaking nights by hand and firelight in the Common Room, the day before. Somehow, he had a matter of two O’s in the subject.

Hence, to the point, Anatole was suffering after hours. Well, suffering to his own extent. He was sure other students would die to be re-reading over a note someone left on the floor, trying to make sense of the fragments of information in his mind. He narrowly stayed awake as he wrapped his cloak around him, peering around at the crowd before him. It was all quiet, and there seemed to be nothing remotely interesting, so in a split-second decision, he decided upon departing and snoozing in his dormitory, assuming those boys didn’t decide to enter again with their tomfoolery.

He folded up his study note and placed it in his pocket. His feet lifted off the ground heel-first, scooting back in his chair to give hi--

Before Anatole knew it, he was falling back in the chair, his feet off the ground. Instinctively, he let out yet another girlish yelp until he felt that he was caught by...none other than Dorian Gray. His voice seemed oddly sweet (and that frightened the boy about as much as History of Magic, but…) ”Dorian! Thank you for saving me, but what th--”

”I have a proposition for you, Anatole, and I think you’re going to like it.”

Now, this...this intrigued him. Why did Dorian Gray happen to come to him of all people? His patient orbs eyes scanned the classroom...was that a bad sign? Then, out of seemingly nowhere came some firecrackers. Now, this...this alarmed him. He let out a whisper of a gasp, meeting eyes with the boy and his savage grin. Knowing Dorian Gray, of course he stole them, and of course he--

Another voice sidetracked Anatole’s thought process, from yet another Hufflepuff he didn’t know. There was something about this lion cub and making friends with badgers… ”Just a little studying, I must remark.” He smiled at the boy before Dorian cut in again, just like he usually did. Strangely, Anatole was talking as normal, like he had before Hogwarts had hindered his social presence.

Little guy? Sure, it was cute, but Dorian Gray referred to him as…’little guy’? That was certainly a first. Anatole rolled his eyes, remarking with a critical ”Hey!” before he continued to the part about the fireworks.

An accomplice? What was this, a heist? And...with a Hufflepuff? This was sure to be good.

Sitting in front of them, each of his legs around the chair, while is arms were laying on the back of it, supporting his head. Emyl's eyes were gazing in their direction. He was honestly happy to meet two new individuals beyond the wall of Hogwarts. It has been a hard debut in this school, but now, he was more at ease, at least, he thought so. Without any more thought to it, Emyl Morrel opened his mouth and speak truly. I am Emyl Morrel, quite sorry for not presenting myself earlier. While expressing himself, the young boy benched over the chair and grinned. He was happy to have a normal conversation with other children of his ages. Therefore, he was extremely observant and he had indeed seen what Dorian had shown Anatole a few second before his arrivals. Fireworks. It seemed they were preparing a prank or some sort of event. Of course, his curiosity kept rising and he could not help biting on his lips while listening to them.

His attention was taken away from this thought as Anatole replied to him. Somehow, Emyl Morrel already was fond of this boy. He seemed nice, but his friend Dorian made him worried a little. He could not be certain of why, but something was wrong with him. Therefore, he would not let this interference between anything he would get to do with both of them. Emyl was still young after all. He loved trouble. No matter how calm he appears, he loved pranks the most. Reporting his eyes and mind on Anatole Evans, he decided to engage some conversation with him. I see! I was also studying history with both of my friends before they had to leave abruptly.

He straightened himself in his chair before speaking some words again. He was, indeed, wondering what all of this was about. He was now an accomplice, as Dorian said. The real question was, of what exactly? This sound quite interesting, actually. May I know of what I am now an accomplice? From the tone of his voice, he could tell that they were planning something really bad. Would they even make those fireworks, indoor? Emyl Morrel was wondering what would be the consequences of this. Detentions would be a salty reward if they were caught and knowing the professors, they would probably be caught. Indeed, this was a bad idea, but something still attracted him to this adventure. It would be something he could share with his friends. Something to make them laugh. In that sense, Emyl did not hesitate more and spoke again. I guess  I do not have a choice anyway, but I am in! What is your plan from now on? Where do you plan to use those specifically? This was really starting to be, interesting...

Anatole's casual was cringe-worthy, and Dorian did just that, cringe when Anatole tried to make it look like they were studying. It wouldn't do to scare the boy away with such a lie. Such a bad lie at that, and so Dorian had been quick to interject, first asking the boy for his name. Emyl Morrel... So far the name was ringing zero bells, and Dorian gave an internal shrug as he went on to introduce himself and Anatole. "Oh pipe down Evans!" he retorted at Anatole's exclamatory outburst at being called little. He was, and he might as well accept it as the truth. He hoped that the new kid was every bit as into mischief as he was because it would not do to have a tattletale amongst them.

When Emyl asked what he would now be an accomplice to, a bit louder than Dorian might have liked, he looked around the classroom again like a burglar would peer over his shoulder to ensure he wasn't about to get caught in the act. Satisfied that they were alone, he leaned even closer into the little triangle they had formed, using his right hand to motion to them to do the same. He started to place the firecrackers on the ground in the center and then relinquished the final one from his robe, which was a little bigger than the others. They were all of varying sizes, and how he had managed to smuggle them all into the History classroom was a question best left unasked. "To greatness, my man. You're now an accomplice to greatness."

There was more. Dorian had come stocked and prepared for what he had in mind. They would see him produce a paper wrapped hastily into an oval, and this he would place on the ground as he remained hunched to get better access. When he unwrapped the piece of paper the two boys would find that they were looking at what appeared to be needles, seven of them to be precise. "I always carry these around with me just in case." In case of what? His wand was in hand and he was now pointing at the needles. "Reparifarge" he whispered, and the seven metallic needles morphed instantly into simple wooden matches. "Thank you Professor Yornikovych!" he shouted before catching himself and remembering that they were to be quiet.

"I'm hoping you guys know what matches are? The professor didn't allow us to leave his class with the boxes, but there are more than one ways to light a match." Dorian picked one up and dragged it across the coarse stone floor. The first few tries saw no result, but soon enough he saw the spark before the tip of the match burst into flame. "You guys are probably wondering why I didn't just make fire with my wand." Dorian picked one of the much smaller firecrackers up in his free hand and held the burning match to the attached string at the end. "I didn't want something to go wrong with the spell and end up blowing us up." But something was going to blow up, that was for certain.

Dorian let the fire eat at the string, and when the string had practically been burned away completely, he shouted "think fast!" as he tossed the firecracker at Anatole, knowing that reflex would either have him try to catch it or try to avoid it. With how tightly spaced they were, avoiding it would require some wild movements. In another second or two there would be a resounding pop! from all angles of their hearing, and Dorian would be wearing a shit-eating grin. "BOOM! That, boys, is what we'll be doing today. I was thinking we could let a few of these loose in Professor Wright's greenhouse. Just to scare a Devil's Snare or two nothing big. Or!" he gestured around the room they were now in "we could redocorate the classroom for Professor Cazarez's next class." Dorian would consider their input seriously. He just wanted to have some fun.

This new boy was clearly a nice boy, and it showed. Even his posture promoted a simple approachability and a positive demeanor. He didn’t seem all too challenging and was thankfully different from Dorian, filled with mischief and anything but good. Sometimes, if he thought too hard, he still hallucinated him half-nude and ‘clad in nothing but a merino’. The Hufflepuff was a pleasant distraction to Anatole’s confusing mind.

And how wonderful, he said he had been studying too! Maybe they could exchange a little bit of help. His gut knew he needed this boy’s notes to get by. His handwriting must have been perfect. ”Oh really? That’s...well...awesome! Maybe we need to study together sometime. I’d like that.”

Just like that, Dorian’s commanding presence (but certainly not as commanding as Max Avery or Professors Valtome or Yornikovych) almost said ‘Tut, tut, tut!’ in his mind and caught him back to the fiery situation at hand. There was something about that boy’s glare that sent a shiver up his spine every time. Well, rather than the ‘Tut, tut, tut,’ Dorian remarked in his fashion, ”Oh, pipe down, Evans!” Sure, he changed from little guy to the boy’s surname. Anatole couldn’t help but roll his eyes, sighing instead of letting his lips loose. Something about Dorian brought him back into his age of amazing social communication.

Here came the puzzling predicament. Was he in to be yet another accomplice to such a crime? It was certainly risky, but Emyl said yes...so why shouldn’t he? It was terrible to give into peer pressure, but Anatole had no idea what Dorian would do to him if he declined the invitation. He gulped, replying, ”I’m also in on your little...scheme, whatever it is.” An accomplice to much more than greatness was what Anatole had in mind.

The way the boy’s eyes narrowed before moving to the floor and plotting out his plan kept Anatole’s focus more than the school subjects could ever do. The Gryffindor boy got out of his chair and leaned over Dorian’s shoulder to watch what he was up to. The curve in his spine made it rather hard to see, but he took a seat in front of him and watched, grasping his hands behind his back. Dorian might as well chop off one of his hands if he happened to touch a speck. ”Reparifarge." A word Anatole could never pronounce, and a spell he might never master. Yet he sat there with his mouth gaped open. This...magic! Transfiguration!

”Who isn’t aware what a match is?” Anatole shut his mouth again, looking into Dorian’s petrifying eyes. ”Oh, sorry. Was that rhetorical?” He gulped again, watching his fingers move. And with a shout of nothing more than "Think fast!”, a lit firecracker was heading right towards Anatole’s face. Narrowly, he shot back onto the floor, at first trying to catch it but pulling his hands away at the right moment so that it exploded three feet above the bridge of his nose. Gah! The boom it made hurt the poor Anatole’s eardrums and he began to regret what he had gotten into.

”That was...a little much,” Anatole retorted, a bit of ash on his face from the explosion above. ”Okay, so you’re probably aware I know absolutely nothing about your troublemaking, so you need to take the wheel. History’s left my mind good as rot.” He sighed once more, eyes lighting up when he heard the boys’ ideas. ”Those sound...dastardly! Rad! Which one are we up to first?”

Maybe being bad wasn’t so...bad.
