There seemed to be a lot of extraneous things going on in Professor Wordsworth's speech - truly, the man lived up to his last name. Max had never heard such optimism or odd phrases like 'wizkids' and it floored him almost as much as the term 'shade glasses.' Weren't they called sunglasses or some such thing? But he'd heard shades as well... perhaps he'd been wrong all along about the name of them, and the thought was slightly disconcerting. Shaking the thought away - and filing it in his mind for later - he got up to grab a hammer and pair of 'shadeglasses.'

Settling into his seat, he was rather happy to hear that this lesson consisted of smashing something. If there was one thing he enjoyed doing mindlessly, it was breaking things - and glass especially had a quality of almost seduction in terms of the way it shattered. He was ready before they were even told, and with a small chuckle of satisfaction, he brought the hammer down hard on the glasses. They buckled and broke with ease under the wood, a piece of glass making a light pinging sound as it fell out onto his desk.

"Alright, so next..." he murmured, sliding his wand out of his robes and pointing it at the frames. "Oculus Reparo," he breathed, lightly tapping his wand on the frames and waiting for any sort of response. It didn't appear to work, but then he was now quite used to spells not working on the first try. Adjusting himself to feel more comfy in his seat so the hard wood of the chair in his back wouldn't be a distraction, he gave it a second attempt with more feeling. "Oculus Reparo." Said with the exact inflection the professor had used as Max neatly flicked his wand against the broken item.

This time was much more satisfying, a spark of red lighting his wand before the glass lifted back up from the table and righted itself into the frames. What an interesting spell - he found himself wondering if the magic was forcing all the particles together or if it was genuinely reversing what had previously been done. Tucking his wand away, he picked up the sunglasses between two fingers and held them up thoughtfully. The spell probably wouldn't be useful since he looked after his things, but it was still extra knowledge. And the implications of what magic really was... that was something he'd keep thinking about long into the day.

As the class went on, Marcia ad trouble not to roll her eyes too often. She wouuld have to worry having them pop out of her face. If she dreaded one thing more than History of Magic in general, then it was her broad smiling and energic teacher. She gave him credits for trying to make the most boring subject a little more entertaining, but his constant gibble gabble and his manners were too much to handle that early in the morning.

She was tempted more than once to bang her head at the table, whenever he said one of his bad puns, but settled with a low groan instead. Others loved him and that was alright, she however would have preffered to sleep in class with more silence. Shade glasses, what an idiot.

Today her peace was disturbed even more when their teacher announced, among his bad jokes, that they would learn a spell. It was the second practical lesson for History of Magic, but while the first one was fun, they now would learn how to repair things. No, not things, that would have been convenient. They would learn to repair glasses. Glasses, noone wore glasses. But, what their professor said had to be done.

She glanced at her object. Silly looking sunglasses with big edges and even bigger glasses. She watched as others tried their glasses on fur fun, but Marcia just grabbed the hammer and used it. She didnt imagine anything, it just felt good to destroy something. At least one thing today, that was enjoyable.

Now her glasses were broken down into countless pieces and Marcia would have been happy to just leave it here. She could however see that the others already spoke their first tries, making their professor whoop about their attemps, so she hesitantly let the hammer down and instead snatched her wand. "Oh what joy.

She pointed the tip of her wand at the mess infront of her and tried to remember the right incantation. She hasn't listened well when her professor had spoken, she rarely does. "Oculus Reparo."

It was a try, a bad one, and she didn't emphasise anything. It didn't matter if she would master it or not, she didn't care. When would she need to repair glasses anyway. A mending charm would be helpful and it surely would work on glasses as well. That spell here was just redundant.

"Oculus Reparo," she said again without any energy. She was just playing her part, acting as if she really tried. "Oh damn, it's not working." Yes, what a shame.

For the next minutes she once a while did her best to perfomre the spell, and played with the wording. A little fun that she allowed herself. "Oculus Reparo.

Suddenly a burst of red light emerged out of the tip of her wand, engulfing the pieces, which were trembling on the table and then sprung together, bits by bits, until the shades were complete again. "Woops," she said, looking at the now fully working sunglasses.  She stared a few seconds and didnt really felt proud, but rather enlightened.

Without hesitation she grabbed the hammer again and let some strokes rain on the table, crushing the glasses once more. Her swings were trained after hours of quidditch training, so the glasses soon were unrecognizable. "Oculus Reparo." Once again the light emerged and in seconds the shades were whole.

Her wand was laid down and instead she used the hammer, again crushing the glasses, repeating it again and again and again. Well, that is fun

Phaedra sat in her first-row desk, attentive with clasped hands as she took in the man’s lecture for the day. Professor Wordsworth III was an interesting one; a charismatic wizard who clearly had a bit too much fun with his job. She watched his demonstration of the spell, happy that soon she’d have another to add to her arsenal, and after he was done she stood in line with everyone else to gather their tools for the day.

Unlike her experience with the wizarding world, Phaedra knew very little of muggles; her only encounters with them being curious, distant glances at the natives and tourists she occasionally saw during trips to Athens. All that she had personally seen from muggles was that they dressed in odd ways and really liked those flat screeny-picture things that they sometimes brought up to their faces and talked to. Whatever those devices were called. The name escaped her.

When it was her turn, Phaedra hesitantly outstretched one arm towards the box of ‘shade glasses,’ before looking over her shoulder to gauge the reactions of those who had taken a pair before her. No one was hurt from coming into contact with them like her mother said would happen and some were already shattering the glasses with the hammers. She'd be fine.

Returning to her desk, the first thing she did was inspect the glasses. Their frames were cool to the touch and felt like cheap plastic but that didn’t matter because without thinking twice, she had started to try something her mother would lose her mind over.

Moving strands of hair from her face, Phaedra took her free hand to bring up and rest the pair of shade glasses onto the bridge of her nose, staring straight ahead at the classroom’s chalkboard afterwards. They only remained for a few seconds as she didn’t want to get called out for being distracted or have anyone notice, but the short moment was just enough to get a glimpse of a world so drastically different than hers.

She had seen that everything was quite dark through the lenses, but another student had said they were that way to protect against the sun, so it made sense, she supposed. Less light would flow in if the glass was darker, correct? The invention was quite creative coming from muggles. The girl almost found it respectable.

However, the Ravenclaw couldn’t waste any more time pondering over semantics lest the class end before she could perfect the spell. Ripping off the glasses with an awkward cough, she laid them onto her desk to pick up the hammer and get to work. This was the very first time any muggle object had touched her hands, and here she was, planning to destroy it. How fitting.

Pulling her arm backwards, Phaedra brought it forward again to break through the right lense with the hard tool, a satisfying crack emitting from the force. One hit would be enough, she figured. Would it be harder to repair something the more damaged it was? If so, she rather preferred to start off easy. It would be stupid not to.

Picking up her wand, Phaedra sat up straight to attempt casting. “Oculus reparo,” Phaedra said, her wand pointing imposingly at the cracks. Gently tapping the glasses on the last syllable just like instructed, she was surprised to see that nothing happened. The shades just remained there lifelessly and mocking. Perhaps she hadn’t stressed the incantation correctly. Such a thing was a challenge for some, especially with the varieties of accents within the school. Pointing her wand again, she went for a second attempt.

“Oculus Reparo!” That was the ticket and after a red flash from her wand, the cracks seemed to melt together and fuse, leaving the frames in the pristine condition that they were before.

As the class came to an end, Phaedra packed up her belongings but left the glasses behind for the man to collect. Even though she had never owned a pair of glasses, knowing the spell could possibly be useful someday. The more knowledge the merrier.

REID was charmed by Professor Wordsworth, to say the least, he found the man's charisma easy to tune with. There was no hiding it as the normally withdrawn student was leaning forward on his desk, elbows and all as he watched Alpheus speak. What he pulled out was not familiar to him, even though he practically grew up as a muggle. All he knew was sunglasses and eyeglasses, but maybe sunglasses and shade glasses were the same thing. Tests and homework were overrated, they had quickly become the bane of his existence since he entered Hogwarts. Reid did well with muggle testing, but magic for some reason was harder to deal with and the school was undoubtedly always asking the best from them.

TO get a practical exercises was a godsend in his eyes, he would much rather learn physically rather than read a book. He wanted to volunteer his reading glasses but he doubted he would be able to repair it right away if it was broken. The boy stood up from his seat, shuffling as he started forward towards Wordsworth's desk. All of a sudden, the boy felt a gentle yank on his side, causing him to turn around and see that his robe had gotten caught at one of the table's splintered edges. With careless ease, Reid tugged the robe entirely, ripping it as he continued on towards the front behind a student. He could repair it later, perhaps he could have stapled it if he had a stapler.

IT was funny how much he took the smallest muggle things for granted, it felt like he was stuck in a whole different century at Hogwarts sometimes. The boy picked up the pair of tinted spectacles and meandered back to his desk. Reid pulled his reading glasses from his collar and placed it beside the shaded ones for a side by side comparison. A hammer was held in his hand as he paused to listen to what the other students were doing. But all of a sudden, he heard an abnormally loud 'SMACK' of the student beside him. It caused him to jump slightly and slam his own hammer down as a result and he heard an ungodly crack. Reid cracked his eye open to see that his the hammer's head, unfortunately, landed on his very own reading glasses.

IT laid in front of him, shattered beyond belief.  "Oh, Merlin's ..." he dejectedly mused. Panic set off in his brain, what if he failed? This wasn't good. So the boy did the next best option in his mind and slammed the hammer onto the shaded ones too. Now both were broken, but at least he broke the right one. "Uhm." Reid set the hammer down, he clearly made the situation much more terrible than it originally was. This was embarrassing and once again he seemed like an absolute buffoon. A shade of crimson enveloped his features, tinging even the tip of his ears. The Hufflepuff pulled out his wand and observed his fellow classmates' incantations and their wand movement, especially the book-smart Ravenclaws.

HE straightened himself, twirling the wand in his hand before pointing it at the shaded glasses. "Oculus reparo." he commanded. His syllable didn't exactly come out the way it should have and he watched the pieces seemingly twitch and the tip of his wand glow red. It fell apart rather than actually coming together. The lines on his features hardened and he took a deep breath again, before taking a few seconds to listen again. He paid special attention to the students who didn't fail. This time, he got it. "Oculus reparo." he firmly stated. One by one, the pieces came together naturally and the shade became as good as new. If only he knew reparo earlier, it would have made his life much easier before. Now he turned his attention to his busted spectacles and pointed his wand towards it. "Oculus reparo."
