If Ever My Life Can be of Use to You
"If ever my life can be of use to you, come and claim it."
Private Thread to @Frost Cira and @Ami Procoppio
Settling in proved to be harder than he had initially thought. Adjustments to a new life were not easy, and no one claimed that they would be. At first, the introduction to his students was thrilling. The difference in generations fascinated him to the bone. However, now he needed to settle in. Now it was time to do the real work.
Boniface had almost completed putting together his office, but he was slowly losing motivation. The man was tired. His first official day was running his battery down. And no one could blame him for that, as he was very much busy.
Adhering to the needs of children wasn't an accomplishment that he put on his resume, to say the least. In fact, his resume was not impressive at all. But he didn't care about that. Boniface was mostly happy about not needing to worry about making rent anymore.
Alas, here he was, alone for now. Undisturbed.
And how did he know that this perfect moment would be ruined? Because this was Hogwarts. That was how things worked here. There wasn't such a thing as a perfect, undisturbed moment. Students loved to poke into the business of others and be as nosy as possible. Maybe they didn't mean to, but without fail, it happened.
And it happened when Boniface was trying, so desperately hard, to get his life together.
These students, the ones that liked to poke their nose into the business of others, they were out to get him. Without a shadow of a doubt, he would fall victim to their schemes. And be it so that Boniface was just too polite to refuse the company of those who came near him. That was the sad truth. He was too polite, too friendly, too honorable to deny them.
He would sigh, running his hands through his locks of hair, pushing the dismal truth aside for now. It was easy to ignore until the time came, but he would have to for now. His mind needed to focus on his office before he became entirely unmotivated and quit for the night altogether.

If Ever My Life Can be of Use to You
News traveled particularly fast in Hogwarts, whether it be from student to student or simply just reading it off of a big board at the front of the school. Though this type of news had sparked an interest in Frost within a few seconds. A new professor was taking over Herbology, which just so happened to be one of her favorite, and best, subject in school. A few days or so ago, she had told herself that she would pay the new professor a little visit, perhaps just a simple thank you. A thank you for even trying to get the position, for at least giving some thought into the chaotic children of Hogwarts. Frost hadn't met him yet but still, she was deeply appreciative of him for teaching the (obviously) best subject ever.
Holding a little picture frame to her chest as if hugging it, delicate steps could be heard as Frost made her way to the greenhouses- her best guess as to where this professor might be. Yes, this little lady had gotten her teacher a gift. Well, more like made him a gift. Perhaps she had the behavior of a 'kiss up', but Frost genuinely wanted to welcome the professor to the school, maybe even a 'welcome back' if he had been to the school before. Curious eyes peered through the glass of the greenhouse and stared straight at the figure that seemed to be occupying the building.
"Excuse me," A dainty voice and a small knock at the entrance could be heard. "Excuse me, professor?" This time her voice was louder. Frost, of course, was not aware of the slight distress of the professor inside and stood at the door for a good moment or two before opening it just a crack and poking just enough of her head inside for her eyes to show. "Um, professor... MacTav- wait, oh yeah- MacTavish?" The redhead peered over at the man, who she could only assume was the professor of Herbology, and made a small 'aha' sound. "Sorry sir, I was just trying to see who the new professor was. I can come back later if you'd prefer, I don't mind." A gentle smile occupied Frost's face, still standing at the door as if not to invade the professor's 'bubble'.

Ami had heard of the arrival of the new Herbology professor, of course, and she was quite delighted by it. She had not had the best... uh, track record with the previous two professors, Sorrel Wright and Bryony Davis, having gotten rather poor marks when under their tutelege. However, she was determined to start off on the right foot with this one- what was his name, again? Boniface? What a weird name... but she had a weird name, too. No judgment from her! Armed with a plate of quite delicious and most probably stolen chocolate chip cookies, she made her way from the Hufflepuff common room to the Herbology greenhouses with a slight bounce in her step, delighted at the prospect of getting on good terms with the professor.
Not to her surprise, another Hufflepuff was already at MacTavish's office when she arrived- Frost Cira, one of the nicest people she knew. The girl still lingered at the door, obviously still waiting for the Professor to allow her to enter. Poking her head into the doorway above Frost's (being, thankfully, a full head taller than the shorter redhead), Ami grinned at the Professor, holding up her plate of cookies. "Hiya!" she said cheerfully. "I'm guessing Frosty's welcoming you to the school? I mean, it's a very her thing to do, she's such a sweetheart... but I'm here too, and I brought cookies!"
It was as if she thought cookies could solve everything. She had already tried bribing Alexx with cookies to help her with homework, and here she was, ready to offer up cookies as a peace offering to the new Herbology professor to get on his good side. Why on earth was she thinking about Alexx at a time like this? She was at the greenhouses, not studying! Shaking her head (as if that was an effective way to push thoughts out of her head), she offered both Frost and Professor MacTavish a wide smile.

Yes, it was just as he had expected. Two wandering Hufflepuffs found themselves gracing him with their presence, smiles beaming up at him. He was surprised that this wasn't an interview with that vicious Headliner team he had heard so much about. The scandal that was willing to be reported. The gossip that got printed. He was thankful that nothing had reached him yet, but his time would come. He was sure of that.
On the totally better note that he was not being harassed by the person behind those interviews, he accepted the student's company with much relief. "Cookies? Alright, come on in." He simply couldn't refuse the offer of sweets. He could turn anyone away for any other reason, but the sweets did it for him.
He motioned them to come in, and he momentarily went back to cutting open boxes that contained his belongings. "Sorry, I didn't quite catch your names. You two are...?" He needed to know. Mostly on account of hoping that this wasn't a surprise paper visit. Partially so as to not appear rude.
Boniface was a polite man. It wasn't always like that. When he was a lad, he was much different. He was demanding and often taunted others. But there was character development to be set into place, and he found that in his later years. But he had layers to him, as well. That was only the second or third. The first was just a pure Herbology nerd, one that might even be too quiet for his own good sometimes. Quiet didn't always mean physically silent, however. It also meant shielded.
Mostly, he was grateful that people seemed to like him. He was drawing attention left and right, much to his surprise. He didn't mind the company. A quiet moment to unwind after such a busy day was in order, but he knew that wasn't bound to happen now. He would just have to suffer through it, grit his teeth, and hope for the best out of this interaction. And what could go wrong? They brought cookies. Boniface loved cookies more than he loved most things (with the exception of plants, all things considered).
