The Greenhouses had certainly seen better days it appeared.. Lark noticed the errand posted to help our Professor MacTavish and pounced on the opportunity. Since coming to Hogwarts, Herbology had quickly become one of her favorite subjects. There was something about being around plants and the earth that made her feel calm. Even now standing in front of the Greenhouse waiting for AJ to join her, she felt her obsessive need to clean trickling in the more she stared at the building. It was one thing to get her hands dirty and clothes... but for some reason unorganized pots, tools, and other things set her teeth on edge. Not to mention the fogged up, grimy state the windows appeared to be in.

Some of the building looked like it had already been worked on by other students so Lark had already gone in and grabbed a couple of rags, a bucket of water, and whatever else she thought she may need to clean the outside of the windows while she waited for AJ. There were tons of things to do inside still but... boy.. were those windows really getting to her. Kneeling over the bucket she had placed under the windows starting by the entrance to the Greenhouse, Lark plunged a rag into the soapy warm water scrubbing it together between her hands. Strange how the smallest actions bring out the biggest memories... Ringing out most of the water from the rag before running it along the trim of the window leaving a small trail of murky water clinging its way down the windowsill. Her thoughts started to bring up a memory of working outside in her mother's greenhouse alongside her... Though she couldn't recall what was being said to her, she watched as her mother's red tinted lips moved and smiled. The touch of her mother's hand on hers as she showed her how to plant a small sprout...

Lark scrubbed a little harder at the bits of moss that had caked itself into a hard lump in one of the corners of the window. Hot tears started to form in the pockets of her golden eyes, clinging to the rim of her eyelids threatening to spill over should she blink. Focusing her energy even more on the task at hand, she hadn't even realized she had finished the first window but her muscles seemed intent on repeating the motions, harder and harder into the panels of the greenhouse as if she was trying to scrub away more than the years worth of dirt that speckled the windows.

A noise from inside the Greenhouse finally broke the young Ravenclaw's focus and drew her back out of her own thoughts. Looking down at the now tan stained rag in hand, Lark realized she had finished on only one window so far. How long had it been? Rubbing her puffy eyes against the sleeve she tossed the rag into the bucket of water. "Mmpf.." Mumbling into her sleeve again she peered at her reflection and noticed bits of dirty water and mud from the rag had gotten on her jumper. At least she had worn something a bit more "cleaning" appropriate. Last time she had made the mistake of wearing nicer clothes and gotten an earful from her mother about he stains. This time they had sent her back with a couple pairs of overalls to use for errands. Folding her sleeves up and using the hair tie on her wrist, she would thank Ruthie later for introducing her to these handy little bits of elastic, the first year scanned the grounds for any sign of her friend.

Herbology was not the young Gryffindor's favourite subject, at least not First Year Herbology. He enjoyed the Professor's stories about dangerous plant-life that brave witches and wizards frequently had to fight off but that was for from the greenery that he and his peers were being presented, the bit with the fire had been cool though.

As such AJ had not been in any particular rush to get down to the Greenhouses this morning. In truth he had only signed up for it because his best friend Lark had almost gotten to the point of physical violence demanding he come help her. (Whilst that may not be technically true it was real enough in his mind.)

He entered the Greenhouse to find his Irish counterpart already dutifully scrubbing away at the glass. It seemed that one particular pane was bothering her as the rest hadn't even been touched, even the ones caked with dirt and moss. "Oi Sunderella! Ah cen understan' wantun teh do a goo' joab bet I'd rether no' be here untul weh graduate." He cracked a small joke as he strode into the greenhouse, blissfully ignorant of the emotional struggle his friend was suffering through currently.

"D'ya wan' meh to stert on tha'...ehm...wudden buts er hulp ye wuth tha'...gless...bets-...y'alreeght Laerk?" He asked, crouching down next to her having finally heard the muffled sound of sobbing emanating from her position. "Hey noo, tha' looks meer than dost en yer eye." He spoke softly and reached out a hand to gently pat her on the back. "Thenken af hoom?" He asked, his usually loud and boisterous demeanour having come down to a very soft and concerned intonation as he watched his friend carefully, the cleaning could wait, she needed some assistance.

"I-I cannae bugen ta' evun preteend ta' know wus rully gooen on wuth yeh un' yer Mum." He tried to explain to her. He knew it was some disagreement with Lark's being, she had explained to him in her letters over the Christmas break. He could only guess it was something a pureblood could work out, to him Lark was Lark. The way her mother was acting didn't sit right with him, but unfortunately there wasn't a whole lot he could do about it except try to make her feel better. "Wull ah mean ut's hur loss spundun ull thus teem wuth tha beeby. Cun yeh imagun tha stenk?" He joked, holding his nose and waving a hand in front of his face in a comical manner, pulling an expression of faux-disgust in an attempt to elicit a laugh from his friend.

"Uf ye'd ruther git awah frum et yeh could ulweeys cem teh meen fer tha hullideeys.Ut thus poin' ah thenk meh Mither woo' beh meer exceeted teh see yeh than meh." He chuckled, hoping he'd at least taken her mind of things for a bit.

If his attempts had been unsuccessful he would keep trying to improve her mood until it either worked or he was asked to leave her alone.

However if she was once again all smiles he would stand and clonk his head on the wooden surface above them, bask in the pain briefly, then get up again being more wary of his surrounding this time. "Ullreeght, noo tha' creesus mood us over weh stull have a mahoosive jub teh git doon." He went to collect his own soapy bucket and cleaning utensil and set to work on the opposite wall of the greenhouse to Lark. "Reece yeh teh tha end uf tha Greenhoos, noo durteh wundoows ullowed." He challenged her with a wink and announced the start. "Ruddy, Studdy..." Without saying go he started on the first pane, a bit of friendly cheating.
