As Amadea stepped out of the castle onto the grass as it blew in the wind, she had no idea where she was going to go. She began walking, letting her feet guide the way, not thinking about where she was headed. She found herself toward the edge of the grounds at the space saved for herbology lessons.
Before coming to Hogwarts, Amadea had never given a second thought about plants. Sure, she had some succulents back home in London and her mom had some odd fascination with the aloe vera plant, but there was no real space for a garden in her apartment in the city. Of course, the plants she had been living with didn't pose a threat to her well being either. Now at Hogwarts, she had become much more aware of all of the plants that lived around her. She never thought as them as being alive and having their own thoughts before, but seeing all of the plants they studied inside the greenhouses had definitely changed her tune on the whole plant thing.
She stood outside the greenhouse, wondering if she would be in trouble for standing outside instead of in. The door was opened a crack, so Amadea took advantage and slipped inside. There were rows and rows of plants inside the greenhouse, many that looked like they could do some serious harm to Amadea if she got too close. The most surprising thing however was the other student who was inside. Amadea had not expected anyone else to be in the greenhouse. It didn't seem like the most popular hangout spot, but then again, she was here. She couldn't control her reflexes though as she spotted the other girl, and jumped backward with a yelp. Unfortunately, she just right into a plant. It looked like a Devil's Snare and as it's tentacles encircled her, she thought about what she had learned in her classes. Her mind was blank. She only felt sheer panic.
She yelled over to the other girl who had definitely noticed her by now. "HELP!"

She didn't want to be here. The Herbology Professor, Sorrel Wright, had asked Rhea to come in after classes. But why? The redhead didn't know, in fact, and she didn't want to run the risk of disobeying the professor. She'd already gotten detention once, and didn't want to spend another hour scraping gum off desks again.
Besides, Wright scared her. Not the way Scheinberg did, but Wright had a certain sense of... quiet intimidation to her. Of course, Rhea would never show how intimidated she was by the shy professor, but it was the thought that counted. Rhea would prefer not to spend time with the Herbology professor.
At this time, the young redhead had been called to go to the greenhouses in an attempt to get some extra points for her homework. Of course, Rhea was never one to give away the opportunity to get some extra points for her studies, so she found herself walking up to the greenhouse and opening the doors.
Reveling in the peace and quiet that presented her once she entered the warm greenhouse, the Bishop sank down to her knees in the middle of the floor. She was tired, wanted to sleep, and most certainly was not looking forward to the task ahead-she had to make sure all the plants were watered (fed, in the words of Professor Wright) so they didn't die. The professor always complained about how she couldn't bear to leave her plants alone, in case they would die.
Finally composing herself and getting up, Rhea decided to start at the far corner of the greenhouse. She was so enthralled with the green-ness of the plant, and her duties, that she didn't notice the door opening and closing. Fingers pinching her nose shut, Rhea poured the correct amount of water into the pot. She was startled when she heard a yelp and swirled around, the jug she was holding crashing down to the floor. Water spilled everywhere, and Rhea groaned out loud.
Are you kidding me? she thought. Turning around and hoping to find some sort of handkerchief to wipe up the water, Rhea lost notice of the other girl once more. But her thoughts were interrupted by a cry for help.
Rhea's head shot up, and she stared with wide eyes as a plant enraptured the other girl. Oh, who happened to be a ginger. There were so many gingers in this school. But at least this one had classes, so she was different than all the rest. The girl's hair was curly, too. It was pretty...
Snapping back into the moment, Rhea abandoned the puddle of water and ran over to the girl. "What plant is this, do you know? I'm too good at plants. Oh god, can you even talk?" Grasping a solid tendril of the plant, Rhea tried to pull it away from the other girl. Of course, she didn't succeed, and found another tendril wrapping around her own ankle. "If we die, I promise it's not my fault."

Despite Amadea's averageness, one skill she did have was being able to think quickly on her feet. Unfortunately, she wasn't quite on her feet at this exact moment. The tendrils of whatever plant had ensnared her were now wrapping around her legs, and she couldn't exactly stand upright anymore.
As the other girl, who - hey, was also a redhead, came over and grasped a tendril, it began to trap her as well. "Um, I'm pretty sure it's a Devil's Snare," Amadea said. She hoped she had remembered the lesson correctly; it would not only help her not die here, but also would be helpful in not failing her class. Professor Wright didn't seem like a scary person like some of the other teachers, but Amadea still didn't want to get on the wrong side of her.
Pushing aside another tendril that was trying to tie itself around her neck, Amadea shifted so she could look at the other girl. "They definitely call it Devil's Snare for a reason," she joked. This probably wasn't the time to be making people laugh. She should be focusing on not letting herself, and the other girl, die. Dying was not the objective of the day.
Unfortunately, she couldn't say any more, as the snare wrapped another tendril around her face, capturing her breath. She tried to wrestle it away, but it wouldn't move. Amadea hoped the other girl was having better luck battling the plant. She remembered the spell, the fire-making spell, would combat Devil's Snare, but the only hand she still had free was the one without her wand.
Even through her level headedness, she was beginning to feel a veil of panic covering her thoughts. She needed to figure a way to get this plant off of her so one: she wouldn't die, but more importantly two: they could clean up the mess and act like nothing had happened. Amadea vaguely remembered Professor Wright mentioning not touching any of the plants in the greenhouse. This was probably why. Amadea had yet to get into trouble at school and she didn't want to start now.
As she was thinking this, she realized this probably wasn't the time to be thinking about detentions when her oxygen was being sucked away by a nefarious plant. Her hand found the arm of the other girl, and she tapped on the girl's arm, hoping she understood the message Amadea was trying to give her. Use your wand. Even if the spell hit Amadea, at least she'd only be burning, not suffocating.

Her ankle was starting to throb as the circulation started being cut off, and Rhea tried to shake away the plant. She only succeeded in feeling the plant coil around her leg, slowly making its way up her body. Groaning out loud, Rhea decided to grab her wand while she still could, before the plant took away her ability to move. She clasped the wand in between her teeth, to make sure it didn't accidentally fall out while the plant continued its attack. The plant slowly kept coming up towards her torso, and Rhea thanked the stars above that she was tall so she was able to have a few more seconds of freedom.
Looking over at the other girl, Rhea listened to her answer. The Devil's Snare? Rhea remembered the lesson that she'd had about them, taught not to far ago by Professor Wright. She'd had to do copious amounts of research to figure out the answer to one of the questions on the homework, so the young Bishop clearly remembered what had to be done in order to untangle herself from the plant's clasp.
She felt a tap on her arm and swiveled her head to stare at the girl who was already almost completely tied up by the plant. How was she still breathing? The Devil's Snare had wrapped itself around her face, so it really was a surprise that the girl had not passed out yet.
Feeling the plant continuing its quest of rushing up her body, and entrapping her right arm, Rhea lifted her left high above and took her wand out from her mouth. Praying that she was indeed doing the right spell and not one that would further anger the plant, Rhea pointed her wand down at the plant and performed the correct wand movements. "Incendio!"
As soon as the fire hit the pieces of the plant that was on her body, Rhea felt it subside. The fire continued to travel towards the other girl, but Rhea watched with wide eyes as the fire spread all over. She would be burned! A hand coming up to cover her wide open mouth, anticipation bled all over Rhea's features.
Would the girl die? Or at least, suffer from burns? Heart pounding, Rhea rushed to the girl and tried to put out the fire. Would it be too late? Oh god, what if the girl died upon impact? Her parents would kill her. They would disown her even before she told them she wasn't actually sorted into Slytherin. No one at this school would talk to her ever again. She would be all alone. Maybe that was what she deserved...
Biting her lip, Rhea stared at the plant-encompassed girl, praying, hoping that she was okay. She really didn't want to kill anyone in her first year. That excitement would all come in later.

Amadea could no longer see. She wasn't sure if it was the tendrils of the snare, or if she was beginning to pass out from lack of oxygen, but nevertheless, she was completely in the dark. Unfortunately, this meant she couldn't see what the other girl was doing.
She hoped that the other girl was faring better than Amadea herself was. It would be quite unfortunate if they both died today. Amadea almost laughed at how much her pans had gone awry...or at least she would have if she wasn't being suffocated by this heinous plant. She hadn't even learned the other girl's name! If they survived this, Amadea made a mental note to ask for her name. It would be a terrible thing to accidentally kill a person and not even know who they were.
Amadea's thoughts drifted as the plant coiled itself around her body, encasing her in it's arms. It almost felt like a nice hug...almost. Amadea reminded herself that this plant was trying to kill her; it's intentions were definitely not to give her a nice hug. By now, she had kind of accepted the fact that she was going to die, which sounded quite dramatic to her, but she had been wrapped up by this plant for so long, she could no longer feel the bottom portion of her body. She wondered what the other girl was doing, or if she had suffered from the same fate as Amadea.
Amadea cursed her clumsiness. She was used to falling into things often or accidentally breaking things, but none of her klutziness had caused anything that could potentially be fatal...for her or for anyone else. Well, sure there was that time when she fell into the Great Lake...and that time when she saved someone who had fallen into the Great Lake...but those hadn't been fatal, she thought to herself. She had always wanted her last words to be something memorable.
She thought back to the joke she had made right before the snare had ensnared her. At least her last line was humorous. Just as she felt a headache coming on, realizing it was from lack of oxygen, she heard a slight noise and then felt the tendrils falling away from her body. Her first thought was, She did it! She saved us! And her second thought was, I'm on fire!
Being literally on fire was definitely not what Amadea expected it to be like, though as she thought about it, she really didn't ever make any expectations for what being on fire should be like. She stared at her robes which were ablaze, and her skin underneath was probably heated up as well. She didn't feel any pain, which surprised her, but she knew it would come eventually. She turned to the other girl, and exclaimed, "You're a hero!" Remembering her thoughts when she was ensnared, she quickly added, "I'm Amadea. I would say nice to meet you, however this was probably not the best circumstance to meet you in. What's your name?"
The pain was beginning to settle in now. She shook her robe, trying to put the fire out but to no avail. "Do you have anything that would put this out?" she asked the other girl, who looked quite worried. Then again, Amadea would probably be worried too if she had set someone on fire after saving them from an evil plant.

NO DEATH ALLOWED...though they probably should go to the hospital wing.
Also, I actually did research about what being on fire is like. It's kinda interesting tbh.

About to pass out from the amount of oxygen she was losing, Rhea ran to the girl and started to look around to see if there was any sign of her being alive. The fire was almost completely encasing the other girl, and worry started to course through Rhea. Was she in pain? Not knowing what to do, Rhea started to breath heavily and bit at her fingernails. There had to be something she could do, definitely. But what?
Finally, after what seemed like forever, the plant fell away from the redhead and Rhea felt a sigh escape her. Fire was still dancing across the girl's skin - whose name she still didn't know, she'd have to find out later - and Rhea worried for her, but the girl didn't seem to affected. In fact, she seemed just fine - fine enough to be able to talk and joke around. The girl was literally on fire. How was she talking?
Unable to comprehend what was happening, Rhea slipped into what seemed a state of shock. She was unable to move or talk, and simply stared in shock at the girl. This was perhaps the most dramatic thing that had happened to Rhea, and it was understandable that Rhea reacted this way. Although she'd been through a lot in her young life, this was above and beyond than anything. It was scary that someone had to go through something like this. Rhea now knew that every time she stepped into the Herbology classroom, or even saw Professor Wright, she'd get flashbacks to this time. Who knew that such a shy professor, who seemed to sweet and kind, harbored such... horrible plants? Granted, maybe they shouldn't have ventured into the greenhouse without a professor around, they had gotten permission. So they really weren't in the wrong.
Finally snapping out of her makeshift reverie, Rhea focused on her surroundings and tilted her head at the girl's name. Amadea? It was an uncommon name, but Rhea liked it. Better than Amanda, which Rhea would thought would the names more common counterpart.
"My name's Rhea," the Bishop introduced herself. She didn't feel like indulging her last name, in fear that Amadea be an heir to a powerful pureblood throne, and the fact that she'd burned someone would spread throughout the pureblood community. Rhea bit her lip and rubbed the back of her neck. "Sorry for, erm, burning you. Don't know why you're calling me a hero."
Furrowing her eyebrows when Amadea asked if there was anything that could be used to douse the fire, Rhea's gaze landed on the jug full of water - the entire reason Rhea had come in. Eyes brightening, Rhea rushed to the jug and picked it up. "We can use this! The water's not too cold, I don't think." Then, Rhea proceeded to tilt the jug over the redhead's head and emptied its contents. "We should still take you to the hospital wing, I think." Placing the jug down, Rhea rubbed her temples. What explanation would they give to the nurse when they walked in, one girl holding someone who was burned?

The other girl finally introduced herself as Rhea and apologized for burning Amadea. She shrugged, or tried to move her shoulders in what was a shrug. When burning, Amadea figured out, it was quite hard to move your arms without singing some other part of your body. She was still trying to figure out why she wasn’t in more shock. She was burning. Literally burning. She was on fire and she was making some nice conversation with Rhea, who was standing in front her in shock.
If Amadea was in Rhea’s position, she would probably do the same thing. She would probably be too shocked to actually move at all. Or she would just be too mesmerized by the fact that another student was on fire. And talking.
“Don’t apologize,” Amadea added on as an afterthought as she watched Rhea grab a full jug of water. “Burning is much better than dying.” She never thought she would be able to say that, especially from experience, but it was true. To be honest, burning actually wasn’t that bad. Yet. She had a feeling her body was still in shock from the fire and her nerves were still overwhelmed from the amount of heat surrounding her body.
The water splashed over her and she bit back the urge to scream. She had never felt something so cold and hot at the same time touch her skin. The flames receded and she finally could see everything again. Her robes were singed and smoking and her skin was almost as red as her hair. That couldn’t be a good thing, she thought.
Then her body really started burning. She almost fell over from the pain that overtook her. This was so much worse than the fire. She would much rather still be on fire, which probably wasn’t a good thing, but the pain. She stumbled, trying to remain upright by grabbing onto a table. Unfortunately, it only added to the pain as her blistering hands rubbed against the rough wood. Biting back another scream, she centered herself and stood.
Amadea was still so surprised that a mere little plant could cause such harm. It was a magical plant, but it was still just a plant. Though, clearly it wasn’t. She was still having trouble wrapping her mind around the fact that it had almost killed her. Then again, she didn’t think she wanted to wrap around anything considering how the plant had wrapped around her. She shivered, either from the tingling sensations running down her legs or from fear.
She hoped they weren’t going to get into too much trouble. If they did, she would tell everyone it was her fault. After all, it was. She didn’t want Rhea to be in trouble for something that wasn’t even her fault. Poor Rhea was just trying to water the plants and Amadea had wandered down to the greenhouse in the hopes of learning more about plants. She had definitely learned a lot, though not in the way she was expecting to.
Rhea suggested going to the hospital wing, which seemed like a good idea to Amadea. Standing here wasn’t going to heal any of her burns and she was pretty sure getting professional help would be better than trying to use a homemade salve. She began walking toward the exit to the greenhouse, taking effort each step not to scream. Thankfully, Rhea reached the exit first and pushed open the door for Amadea. She nodded her thanks and the two exited the Herbology grounds, slowly heading to the hospital wing.

Amadea and Rhea exit.
